The Force Will Guide Us Together

Chapter 1 - A New Face, A New Friendship

After delivering "Rotta," Jabba the Hutt's Son, both Anakin, and Ahsoka, trudged back to the LAAT Gunship that would be carrying them into the Resolute. Before following his lead, Ahsoka slightly looked up towards Anakin's expression and saw a half-hearted smile emerge.

"We need to discuss some rules, Padawan," Anakin demanded, as he employed a force to leap to get inside the gunship.

"Jag. We're all accounted for. Take us up." Rex announced as the engines spooled up and boosted away from the platform.

Jag retorted with a strict reply, "Yes, Sir!"

"I'm listening, Skyguy." Ahsoka permitted, with a quizzical smirk on her face. She attempted to be enthusiastic regarding it, but she wasn't particularly fond of going over the rules a second time.

"I really don't want you calling me those nicknames when we're around other Jedi, so I expect you to call me Master as a sign of respect. You got it, Snips?" Anakin rebuked, standing firm and holding onto a latch above him.

Ahsoka wasn't surprised. She knew all the mundane Masters would answer the same until she noticed he concluded his sentence with Snips. She presumed both of them weren't permitted to be name-calling.

"Snips?" She queried, partially loosening her lips.

"Look around. There aren't any Jedi around here. Are there?" Anakin bantered as he planted his metal hand on her shoulder. Ahsoka rolled her eyes as the vessel was closing in towards the Resolute.

"Gunship 253, This is the Resolute. We request your clearance code." A bridge captain inquired. Jag transmitted the authorization codes for landing into the computer and used the Numpad to insert the console numbers: 100308. The bridge accepted them into the ship's landing bays, and the Resolute's main hangar doors that ran parallel through the center opened apart. The gunship promptly occupied a refueling sector of the cruiser, and Jag opened the bay doors to offload the troops. Anakin motioned the troops to get together once he hopped out.

"Everyone gather around me. Yes. We all know you want to leave, but hear me out. You did well out there. I'm happy with the results, troopers. You all deserve this break… and one more thing. You treat my Padawan, over here, as you treat me." He critiqued.

Everyone dispersed, and both the Jedi traveled to their corresponding quarters.

"So when am I getting my Clone legion, Master?" She inquired.

"Ahsoka, these men are loyal to you and me. You're now their General, and they will listen to your commands. As long as you treat them as humans and not expendable clones, they will earn your respect. The 501st is yours." Anakin responded.

She was mesmerized by his acknowledgment. She didn't anticipate receiving an answer like that, but it made her feel important, which she hasn't felt in a long time.

"Here is your quarter. Relatively small, but we won't be on missions that are often on the Resolute." Anakin concluded, motioning his hand for her to enter the room. Ahsoka glimpsed around and smiled before becoming relaxed in her cot mattress. Anakin suddenly saluted her with two fingers and closed the door.

Anakin arrived at his room as he used the force to shut the door behind him. He took a holo-projector out of his drawer and dived towards the bed. The lights were slightly dimmed so that he could concentrate on his mind. However, it didn't help him as he started to fidget with the holo-projector.

I still don't know if this is still a joke, Obi-wan. Why give me a Padawan?

He reflected in his head. Before contacting Obi-wan, Anakin needed more time to evaluate. They both knew he didn't want a Padawan, but he saw how similar they are during the past few days. A rebellious attitude, an interest for battles, a desire to adventure, and despite her age, she was skilled and athletic.

Although, her attitude could be improved upon if he gave her more training. And don't forget about discipline. Anakin thought.

Overthinking caused Anakin's head and eyes to grow more fatigued, and a handful of minutes later, he dropped to sleep.

•◊• Resolute's Cafeteria •◊•

Ahsoka was craving for a meal, and she didn't consider relaxing just yet. She progressed out of her room and roamed through the ship's corridors, turning numerous junctions, until she reached the confined mess hall.

Upon her arrival, she noticed Captain Rex, including a few of the 501st, being entertaining and enjoyable. Ahsoka advanced towards the washed-out steel kitchen section that housed stacks of ration cartons at the bow, and she collected plenty of snacks completed by the main dinner course, before proceeding her way to uncover a seat.

She scanned around until Rex squawked out. "Hey, kid! Come and sit with us!"

She hunkered down at their counter and loosened up her box of rations. It consisted of a generous, yellow, square-shaped type of food, a rectangular bar, numerous bits of small tan pieces, a large stick, several medium-sized sticks, and white rolls. She was ravenous, so she started to devour the food that was on her serving box until she sensed the Clones watching at her.

"What are you all looking at?" Ahsoka judged as she recommenced to cram up her meal.

"Ugh... Nothing commander." A Clone exclaimed.

"If it's about my eating habits, I'm starving. I haven't eaten since I got on Christophsis." She explained, chewing leisurely this time.

"We understand, general." Another Clone dismissed, constraining their laughter.

"Then, what's so funny?" Ahsoka gaped, her eyes squinting a little.

"Oh, we're discussing the verbal incident that happened on Christophsis. C'mon. Tell the clones the nickname you gave General Skywalker." Rex persuaded, still striving to retain the laughter he mustered up.

"He wanted me to leave, but I figured out a way to prolong his decision. I told him, 'You're stuck with me, Skyguy.'." She mocked, then imitated the reaction of Anakin's grimace towards the Clones. The Clones then exploded with chuckles and laughter.

"Soo… Commander. We'd like to know more about you. Like… ugh… What was it like being a kid?" Rex requested. She stared at him, startled. Her history always remained a secret, and Ahsoka hasn't confessed anyone yet to anyone about it. She sought to keep it as concise as possible.

"When I was about three years old, Plo-Koon found me and took me into the Jedi Temple. Then during my childhood at the temple... I... I-I have to go," Ahsoka murmured. She abruptly finished her meal then immediately walked out of the hall.

All the Clones glanced at each other bewildered and confused before dismissing it, and they rose to the idea that it wasn't a subject they should touch upon with her, so they proceeded to talk more about their own stories and experiences. Rex desired to go after her, but he decided she needed her time alone.

Ahsoka sulked back to her quarters gradually, and she was eyed by several Clone officers who watched her curiously as she passed by with her head down. A few of the Clone watchmen saluted her with compliance, but they received no acknowledgement from her. Ahsoka progressively became more reserved for the rest of the day, as her feelings clouded her mind.

So she settled down onto her bed, to erase the memories that have been brought up by her past. The lightsaber on her waist unbuckled, and she placed it down on the side of the metallic nightstand. As she shut her eyes, she could recall the memories overflowing her mind and repeatedly playing over and over again.

"I hope no one chooses you for a Padawan."

"You may be top of your class, but you're an alien, and I'm a human. You're a slave."

The younglings were mocking and taunting her about her physical appearance, but focusing on the past wouldn't do any good for her future, and just making herself and her Master proud was her foremost priority. Ahsoka clutched a recording of Master Plo that played a speech that motivated her to be inimitable. She kept it on until Ahsoka dropped to sleep.

Anakin awoke to his comlink vibrating on his arm. Before he acknowledged, he felt the vessel decelerate. He gazed out his window to see a massive planet filled with lights. It was Coruscant.

"General Skywalker here." Anakin greeted.

"Commander, We'll be stuck up here for a while. There's been a collision on our way there, but don't worry, we're requesting an emergency lane." A Clone guaranteed.

•◊• Arrival at the Jedi Temple •◊•

An hour later, they landed at the Venator docking bay on Coruscant. Anakin contacted Obi-Wan on his holo-projector and began discussing.

"Glad you came back without any complications; hopefully, it will be smooth sailing while you arrive at the temple." Obi-wan bantered.

"Very funny. I need to talk to you about my Padawan." He commanded, rubbing the back of his scalp.

"Anakin. The decision is final. We discussed this at Christophsis. I thought you were okay with your Padawan, but we will speak to the Council about this matter if you still aren't sure." Obi-wan clarified in his familiar voice.

Ahsoka arose enthusiastic and excited for the day. She moved into the refresher to wash her appearance and gazed at herself in the mirror, and she gave herself a small smile before seizing her lightsaber and equipping it to her waist. She departed the room, continued past the hall, and towards the loading bay. On the way there, she overheard a discussion going on in Anakin's room.

"I don't need a Padawan, and I don't think I ever will. All Padawans do is slow me down. I thought I had to volunteer and sign up to get one anyways." Anakin's voice murmured through the door.

Ahsoka's soul became more solemn and her heart felt like it shattered into a thousand bits upon overhearing what her Master said. Anakin told her that he would be able to make it as his Padawan. Did Anakin exaggerate? Did he change his mind? Ahsoka was about to dash away from him until she caught new information coming out of his mouth.

"...but I should thank you. Ahsoka has been different from the rest I've seen at the temple, and she's a perfect Padawan for me. As I said, she's rough around the edges, but she's perfect." Anakin professed.

"Well. You're welcome and Anakin. Don't forget; you have a meeting with the Chancellor in thirty minutes." Obi-wan asserted, pleased his Jedi Knight is ultimately accepting responsibility. Anakin dropped the call and stepped outside to see Ahsoka standing there with a massive smile across her face. He looked at her with a perplexed look.

"What got you so happy?" Anakin softly chuckled.

"Nothing! Just… uhh… happy to be back in Coruscant." Ahsoka gushed, as her smile broadened.

His perplexed look faded into a smirk. "Come on, Snips. Let's head to the temple. It's time for some changes. It's moving day."

"Moving day, Master?" Ahsoka asked as she accompanied Anakin to her quarters.

Anakin turned towards her and gestured to the boxes that were already prepared by Obi-Wan. "Moving day. You'll be living next door to me now since we're Master and Padawan."

"You're going to help me with these, right?!" She exclaimed as she started carrying pairs of boxes that were tall enough to cover the lower portion of her face.

"I have to go to an important meeting with the Chancellor. I'll be back in a few hours." Anakin hastened through numerous Jedi as he headed towards the Senate Building.

"Wait! Can you help me with these? It's on the way to our quarters, anyways!" Ahsoka exclaimed.

When she didn't hear Anakin reply for a few moments, she groaned. She examined the writing on the crate. It was written as West Wing corridor two. She inferred that she would be going to be living there from now on. She approached her quarters and noticed a sign in front of her door saying "Padawan - Ahsoka Tano," and over to the left, "Jedi Knight - Anakin Skywalker." She was tempted to change the last name to Skyguy, but she kept her impulses in check and started chuckling at the idea. She unpacked and arranged her items and garments into place.

"Your excellency, you needed to see me?" Anakin asked as he bowed in front of his desk. His reddish-grey robes coated his old frailty skin as he turned around from watching at the Coruscant skyline.

"Hello, Anakin. Please, sit. I hear you have a new Padawan. She was forced up to be with you by the other Jedi without your consent. Yes?" Palpatine questioned with a concerned expression.

"Yes. The Council seems to be making my own decisions lately, but I thought I would try. Besides, it would make me a Jedi Master when she passes her trial. It's also an important responsibility a Jedi Knight must face." Anakin insisted.

"Hmm… I see. I believe it's the Jedi council that is using your Padawan to oversee your duties. Maybe, they find you untrustworthy. I wouldn't sign you up for a Padawan without your permission. I just want you to see the bigger picture." Palpatine suggested, as he placed a hand on Anakin's shoulder and escorted him out the door.

"I understand what you are saying. I'll keep that in mind." Anakin bowed to the Chancellor then turned around.

Before he left, Palpatine mentioned one more thing that got into Anakin's head for a while. "You don't want your Padawan to find out about your marriage, do you?"

He certainly did not.

I hope you liked this first chapter. It's been a while since I wrote anything. I believe the last time I wrote a story was back in high school which was 7 years ago! The Corona-virus had me bored to the brink! So I decided to start writing. Tell me what you thought. Stay safe.
