Harry Potter and the New Home
Current title is a working title and is subject to change. So this is my attempt to create a realistic and believable crossover story. I've seen many and most of them are poorly written, with no solid foundations. And they all tend to follow along the same vein. There are some really well written stories out there, but they're few and far between. It seems most writer of Harry Potter LOTR crossovers tend to fall into one of these categories: Harry is master of death and thus immortal which can be used as a good basis for a story when done properly-it's rarely that way. Or Harry falls into middle earth in some way joins the fellowship and falls in love with either Aragorn or Legolas, which is pure and utter tripe and have never made it past the first few chapters in such stories because they are so full of cliches or poor grammar or something of that nature and look like they're written by twelve year old little girls. Or Hermione falls into Middle earth somehow and falls in love with either Aragorn or Legolas which is interesting premise, but I'm simply too big a fan of the Hermione-Ron pairing for me to see her with anyone other than Ron-except Neville and Draco because that's a really good storyline but I digress.
Point being it's hard to find a good HP-LOTR crossover that is actually worth the effort to read. I hope this proves better. Review and let me know what you think!
Shortly after the battle of Hogwarts, Trelawney gives another prophecy. The meaning on this one more clear than the other two. Because I suck writing prophecies, I won't attempt to. The gist is this: Muggles are going to find out about magic and attempt to wipe anything magical out of existence. In response, the magical world comes together and seeks to find a way to leave the world behind, to go to a world where they won't have to hide who they are.
MAY 2ND, 1998
Harry stared at Trelawney as she came out of the trance. "I'm sorry, what were we talking about?" She asked Harry. "You were saying you were going to go check up on the divination tower, see how bad the damage was." He replied. His words weren't disputed, so she nodded and left the hall. The moment she did, people began to talk. "ENOUGH!" Harry shouted. "Yes, that was a real prophecy, her third as far as I know. Ron, Hermione, Shack, Luna, Professor McGonagall, we need to discuss this. Everyone else, stay in the hall." Harry immediately made his way to the small chamber beside the great hall. The last time he'd been in here was his fourth year, and it hardly appeared to have changed at all. The people he signaled out immediately followed.
"Potter, what do you mean this was her third prophecy?" McGonagall asked. "Her first prophecy predicted mine and Neville's birth, stating that one of us would be able to defeat Voldemort. Her second was the night Pettigrew escaped. It stated that the servant would return to the master who would come back greater and more terrible than before. And now this. I think this time the meaning is far more clear."
"The muggles are going to discover magic, and attempt to wipe us out." Luna said. She didn't have her normal dreamy look. "Hogwarts will burn to the ground and everyone in it. They will set Diagon Alley on fire with their bombs, and millions around the world will perish. They will drive the centaurs, goblins, mermen, and every other magical species into extinction. Hundreds of thousands of years of history and evolution will be wiped out. The witch hunts of the past will be nothing compared to those of the future. And every seer across the world will have just issued this same prophecy."
"Most will ignore it. Our job will be to find a way to ensure that we survive. Shacklebolt, you're the interim Minister, so what do you think?"
"I think we can't stay here. A little known secret, so tightly held that technically even I shouldn't know, but the department of Mysteries has long been searching for alternate realities. About five years ago they were able to find one. Just one. We know nothing about it, other than it appears to be in the middle ages, and similar but distinctly different from Earth. I think, I think we should try to gather as many magicals, and as many magical species as we can. Gather as much of our history as possible, and try to go there."
They thought of this proposal for a minute before Ron spoke. "Even if we could do that, how many could we take? How many would believe us? What if they don't like magic in this new world your proposing we go to? Making a decision like that, it's not easy. Especially for the Muggleborns. Would you ask them to leave their parents behind? Siblings? What about their grandparents? I mean if the muggles are going to try to kill us all, there won't be very many who would support the taking of any muggles with us-much less a huge number of them.
Harry pondered this for a minute. "Hogwarts. It's wards are first rate, and the only reason Voldemort was able to attack was because Snape controlled the wards and as Slytherin's heir they wouldn't have really stopped him anyways. We start gathering here. The castle has suffered a lot of damage, but this provides us with the opportunity to repair all parts of it. This is a castle-built during a time period where it's use as a school was only second to it's function as a safe-haven for all magicals. Kingsley, I want you to have the DoM focus every ounce of it's attention in figuring out how we can get the school, and all of it's residents to this other world. We'll just have to take our chances there. Professor McGonagall, I want you to focus solely on fixing Hogwarts, every inch of this castle, including the parts that haven't been used in centuries, fix them all. I think the end of Hogwarts is here. If we're going to send Hogwarts and all of her inhabitants to a new world, it'll be a long time, if ever, before this place becomes a school again. Ron, Hermione, I want you informing the various Muggleborns and their families of what's coming. Give the option to them to bring all of their children, and their parents. Ron's right, we can't bring everyone in their families but we can at least bring the parents and any siblings that Muggleborns might have. Luna, I want you and the rest of the order to speak to the various magical species as well. Find out if they know what's coming and see if they will join us. In the meantime, I'll work with the Aurors to capture all of the escaped Death Eaters. I'll also meet with the various magical governments to discuss their plans and see if they want to join us. We'll meet at least once a month, possibly more to discuss progress. Now, people are going to be panicked enough, we need to get out there and calm them down."
With mummers of agreement everyone spit up to begin their task. The light had won the war. But they would know no rest for the survival of magic itself depended on their ability to escape this world before the muggles killed them all.
So because the prologue is so short and the poll mentioned at the bottom of the chapter, I'm posting both the prologue and the first chapter the same day. This chapter has been lightly edited on 9/3/21.
