Once Upon a Time…
The world was engulfed in darkness…
"Blossom, I really don't feel comfortable with you walking home all alone." Bubbles whimpered as she kept a firm grip on her friend. Her crystal blue eyes were wide with worry. "You've seen the news. People are going missing left and right. And it all happens when it's dark outside. My parents wouldn't mind if you stayed over. They can call your mom and everything."
Bubbles Belshaw and Blossom Little were Sophomores at Townsville High School. They had been assigned to be partners for a project in their Biology class. Being friends for several years already, the girls were relieved and excited to work together.
Bubbles was a kind girl and one of the more popular students in their grade. She was petite, standing only at 5'1. Her hair was blonde and mid-length. She usually curled the tips, letting it spill over her shoulders. Occasionally, she liked to wear her hair in low pigtails. Her eyes were bright blue and always filled with joy. Almost everyone found themselves completely smitten with the gentle-natured girl. The exceptions were those who were jealous of her.
Blossom was considered an elite at school. Her grades were unmatched by anyone in her grade. She had even proven to have higher scores than her upper classmen. She was only taller than Bubbles by two inches. Her hair was long and fell to just behind her knees when it wasn't put up. Her bangs curled above her eyelashes and two longer strands framed her face. Her eyes were an anomaly caused by some mishap in her genetic code. That was the only way they could explain how they were pink… Cotton-candy pink. She was often ridiculed for her appearance, so she buried herself into her studies. She soon found her place among a handful of students and has continued to flourish.
The blonde girl finally released her grasp as Blossom wrapped a scarf around her neck. Bubbles sighed heavily. Blossom faced her and placed comforting hands on her shoulders.
"My house isn't too far. I'll be fine. I promise." When Bubbles didn't look any less worried, Blossom added," I'll even take a short-cut."
"Call me the moment you step into your house!" Bubbles exclaimed. "Once you lock the doors behind you and you're safe and sound, you call me!" Her voice was heavy with anxiety. Blossom nodded her head vigorously.
"I promise I'll call." She then gave her friend a warm hug. "I'll see you tomorrow in Homeroom." She reassured. Bubbles nodded and held the door open.
"So help me Blossom if you don't call." Her cheeks puffed and reddened slightly, causing Blossom to laugh affectionately.
"I'll call." Blossom spoke louder as she descended the porch steps.
"You better!" Bubbles called out. She watched as Blossom walked north in the direction of her home. Only when she was out of sight did Bubbles close her door. She tried to ignore the tsunami of negative emotions in her stomach.
Blossom clung her jacket closer to her body. October didn't disappoint with its chilly weather. Her breath came out in small fogs before her and she could feel her nose started to freeze and run. Her eyes scanned the neighborhood, looking at all the Halloween decorations. Bubbles lived in a nicer area in Townsville where the people had more money to spend on such things.
The sun was almost gone behind the horizon. The streetlights above her flicked on. Blossom swore softly under breath as she felt the temperature drop along with the last remaining sunlight. She had never been one to enjoy the colder months.
She crossed over a main road, noticing how empty the streets were. A lot of people were too scared of what had been happening in the news to be out this late. After she made it safely across, she turned to go between the buildings. The short-cut she had promised to Bubbles. If the blonde had known it was an alley way she would have not been pleased. Blossom had taken this way many times before, so she hadn't felt the need to worry her with minor details.
For the most part, it was dark. The exception was only one working back light. However, upon what was under the light, made Blossom's steps cease. The light belonged to a small tavern. And under it were three men who looked to be very drunk as they yelled at an employee who was shoving them out the back. Blossom turned on her heel to leave the alley before they took notice. But the scuff noise of her sneakers drew their attention away from the slammed door.
She tried to ignore the disgusting leering. They whistled at her and called out some vulgar names. Blossom was not one to entertain such behavior. She was close to the opening that she came through, when a hand shot out and grabbed her wrist.
"Hey, Doll. We were talking to you." A voice spoke right in her ear. He hadn't even tried to lower his voice, so it came out loudly, making her cringe. She tried pulling her wrist out of his grasp. "Now, Now. Let's calm down, Sweetheart. We just want to talk." By this time, the other two had circled behind her. The man's other arm wrapped around her waist, pulling her flush against him.
"Let me go." She bit out. She squirmed violently.
"Dude, look at her eyes." One of the other men spoke as he leaned way too close. The guy behind him also moved in closer. His grin was wicked, and his teeth were crooked. Blossom felt her stomach lurch as all of their breaths smelled of alcohol. She continued to fight the one had held her. Suddenly, she realized that he was pulling her further into the alley. His friends followed, making sure to stay in her personal bubble.
"Wow. I've never seen pink eyes before." The third man said. Blossom then was thrown backwards. They hadn't made it back to light, but they weren't very close to opening either. Her mind raced as she tried to think of way out. Her back was now pressed against the buildings. She preferred this over the other man's body. "She's a pretty thing, isn't she?"
"Oh yeah she is." The first man spoke.
"I-I'm a minor." She cursed at how timid her voice sounded to her own ears. The men just chuckled. She was sure that even without the booze in their system, they were predatory.
"I bet you're a virgin, huh?" The second man stepped closer. Blossom's eyes widen in panic. This seemed to only excite him further. "Oh yeah. You're going to be so tight." She felt tears sting her eyes. Her mind was a muddled mess. She wanted to scream, but her voice seemed to have given out. Would anyone hear her anyways? God, she should've stayed with Bubbles.
"Well, that's no way to talk to a lady." A voice then sliced through her thoughts. She looked further down the alley and saw a figure standing behind the light. From the voice she could tell it was a male. A younger male, and from his outline, he looked tall. Other than that, Blossom couldn't tell anything else.
"Move along. We're entertaining this girl. No business of yours." The first man called out. Whoever it was had gained all of their attention. Blossom felt like she should call out to him, tell him that she just wanted to go home. But again her fear was causing her to freeze.
There was dead silence as they all stood in the alley. The man behind the light made no other moves or sounds. If it wasn't for his silhouette, Blossom wouldn't haven even known he was still there. The three men hovering over her were starting to get annoyed. Her mind then clicked onto running. They were distracted by whoever that was. It was her time to start moving.
She kicked the third man, the one closest to the opening, hard in the shin. He cursed out in pain and doubled over in pain. Wasting no time, she darted. She felt on the others reached for her jacket, but she quickly shook out of it. Her adrenaline would keep her from getting too cold.
Hearing pained grunts and hard thuds behind her, Blossom chanced a look back. Her feet stopped at the sight. All three men were now on the ground, unconscious. The man behind the light was gone. She quickly turned to run again, but ran directly in a chest. She flailed and kicked at the person.
"Hey. Hey. Hey." He said in a hushed tone. Almost as if he was trying to soothe her. Blossom continued to beat at his chest, not daring to look at him. He gently shoved her backwards. "I'm not going to hurt you. I just want to make sure you're okay. Did they hit you?"
Blossom's breathing was shallow and heavy by this point. She took baby steps backward. The cold was slicing at her arms. She hugged herself to try and keep warm. Seconds later, something warm and large was placed around her shoulders. It smelled of faint cologne and smoke. It was a red winters coat meant for a man. Desperate for warmth, Blossom wrapped it fourth around her body. She heard the man chuckle, to which she froze in response. He must have noticed her tense up.
"I mean it. I'm not going to hurt you. Just tell me if they hurt you."
"N-no." Her teeth chattered as the fear of what had occurred came flooding over her. "I-I mean… H-He grabbed m-me… and I-I hit the wall… but t-they… didn't. T-they were g-going…Oh my god… T-they wanted.."
"I'm well aware what they planned to do." His voice came out like a snarl. It was enough to finally have her look up. She couldn't stop herself from gasping out loud. Her hand coming up to cover her mouth. Her breath hitched in her throat and her eyes widen.
Red eyes…
He had red eyes.
They were beautiful.
The man's face was handsome, and his chin was strong. His hair was just as bright as hers. It scruffed out of a worn-out red ball cap that was backwards on his head. He stood taller than her. Almost towering over her. His skin was fair, but not pale. Tiny freckles dusted the bridge of his nose.
Blossom was utterly captivated. His ruby eyes were staring straight into her soft pink ones. She briefly wondered what he had thought about her eyes. Had he thought she looked weird, or did he like that she had an odd color like he did?
"Beautiful." He whispered. Blossom closed her eyes at how tender he sounded. She wanted to bask in that tone. It was longing and full of emotion. Her heart pounded against her chest. When she opened her eyes again, she was face to face with him. Oddly, even after what had just happened minutes ago, she didn't feel the need to back away from him. In fact, she felt the opposite. Something inside of her screamed to jump into his arms. She noticed his eyes scanning over her face, he then back away slightly and proceeded to look at her body. He sighed finally, content with his observation. "They didn't seem to mark you at all. I came right on time."
Then a rush of exhaustion hit Blossom like a train. She couldn't stop herself from wobbling back and forth. She found herself leaned into the man's arms. His embrace was warm and engulfed her body completely. She couldn't stop the wistful sigh that escaped her lips. His arms tightened around her body. She focused on the sound of his own beating heart. It was hammering away in his chest.
"Time to get you home." He whispered. Her feet came of the ground. One of his arms was now under her knees. Closing her eyes, she snuggled deep in his embrace. It was automatic and out of her control. She took a deep breath in, taking in his scent. Smoke… but not cigarette or weed smoke. It reminded Blossom of a campfire. She was drifting out of consciousness when she thought she'd heard one of the three men moan. She didn't have the energy to open her eyes and check. She did feel his chest rumble.
"I can deal with them, Boss. Take her home and tuck her in. I'll make sure they receive the proper punishment." She heard a faint voice. It was slightly deeper and huskier than the man who held her. However, she didn't feel a need to be scared. The man's scent and his warmth kept her at peace.
"Thank you, Butch. I'll make sure to compensate you later."
"Nah. Consider this one from the pack."
Then Blossom fell into the abyss of sleep.
Until Titan-like beings decided to create creatures to entertain them.
A harsh and bright light was created.
It brought warmth down on the land.
Beings known as humans, roamed during this time known as "Day"
However, a goddess* was unsatisfied.
She created a softer light.
And beings who were superior.
The night was a time for the "Moon" and the creatures who didn't belong to "Man"
Beep Beep Beep
Blossom shot up from bed. Her heart raced as she quickly scanned her surroundings. She was in her room, in her bed, under her covers. She wasn't wearing the same clothing but was in her pajamas. Her favorite pajamas.
Memories from last night were fresh. The men… the ones who tried to harm her, and the ones that she didn't know the intentions of. She hadn't seen the last one that arrived, only heard his name.
Butch.
That's what he had been called. She couldn't think of anyone with that name, but nor could she think of one with red eyes such as the man who held her.
Blossom's face flushed with heat. She couldn't wrap her head around why she acted the way she did. She had just been attacked, and yet pretty much swooned in this one's embrace. Perhaps it was the shock, or maybe it had to deal with how late it was. Whatever it had been, it was an automatic response. She remembered the gnawing feeling of longing for the crimson-eyed man.
Her alarm was still going off when her cellphone shrilled from an incoming call. It was six in the morning. Who in their right mind would be calling her at this hour…
Bubbles!
Blossom dove for her phone. She flinched at the sound of complete panic in her friend's voice.
"Thank Christ! You didn't call. I was so worried!" Bubbles sobbed from the receiver.
"I'm so sorry, Bubbles. I don't even remember getting home." Blossom was hesitant to share the details of last night with the blonde. Especially with how hysterical she already was. Blossom wasn't even sure if it was all real. For all she could know, it was just one hell of a realistic dream… She had been reading a lot of romance novels lately…
Of course… That had to be the explanation.
"You don't sleep well these days." Bubbles mumbled. "I ended up passing out myself. But when I didn't even see a miss call or a text, I got worried. Anyways, I'll see you in a hour or so."
"Okay, Bubs. See you." With that she hung up.
She stared at her clock, letting her mind process the dream.
"Okay." She whispered to herself. "Time to get ready for school."
She didn't notice the large red jacket that had slumped between her nightstand and her bed frame.
"Please." A hoarse voice begged as he was once again kicked in the stomach. He then started to cough violently. Blood spilled from his lips, the taste causing him gag and cough once more. "We didn't hurt her. Swear." He grit out. Then the foot came into contact with his ribs. The man screamed in pain.
The chuckle that filled the air was humorless and dry. The man was then lifted by the collar of his shirt, his feet dangling. He was now staring into the darkest green eyes he had ever seen. They were angry, but also entertained.
"Didn't hurt her." His attacker repeated. "Nah, you didn't. Cuz my Boss made it here before you could. But," He snarled as he slammed the injured man against the wall. "You were planning on hurtin' her. You planned on raping her here on this dirty floor." His face then came inches away. His smile was now just pure of malicious intent. "That was my Boss' woman. Which makes her part of the pack. And anyone who hurts someone in the pack answers to me."
The injured man gulped.
It was then footsteps could be heard entering the alley. Both men spared a glance in the direction. The attacker smiled.
"Ahh Boss! Just in time. Saved one for you." He said as he shoved him roughly to the ground.
Red eyes scanned the floor to the two mangled bodies not too far away. With the amount of blood, he could only assume they were dead. He then made eye contact with the remaining scumbag. His eyes narrowed in slits. The forest-green eyed man backed away slowly.
"Figured you'd want this one for yourself. Since he wanted to talk about how tight…"
"Shut up, Butch!" He snarled. The limp man on the ground watched in horror as the man who was just savagely beating him coward at the other one. His soul shriveled from inside as the crimson eyes fell onto him once again.
"I swear! I didn't know she was taken!" He screamed in pure fear as the red-eyed man walked towards him.
"Something tells me that wouldn't have phased you even if you had known." He growled. "She stated she was a minor. That alone should've made you back off, but you didn't. Now, you're going to pay with your life. Regardless on what you actually did to her, you had every intention of forcing yourself on her." Both men began to shake. One of fear, the other of pure anger.
Then to add onto the horror, the man with the red-eyes began to shift before his eyes. He heard the sound of bones cracking in and out of place. He watched as skin stretched and hair started to grow. In seconds, a large dog… no… wolf… was snarling at him. He snapped his powerful jaws at him, saliva falling from the edge of his lips. The injured man screamed but was cut short as his body was ripped to pieces.
The one known as Butch, stood silently back. He reached into his pocket and grabbed his pack of cigarettes. Once one was between his teeth, he fished for a lighter. By the time he finally got the cigarette lit, his Boss had finished and was returning to human form. He swiveled over to against the wall and reached for a bag. Inside was clothing. He threw it to his companion.
"Well, at least she knows you exist now." Butch muttered. He received no response but felt the heavy glare on his figure. "This is good. I mean the introduction could have been better, but she's seen you. And from where I was standing, she liked what she saw."
"She hasn't seen what kind of monster I am." Butch then turned to look at his friend who was now fully clothed.
"Nah, she saw the hero that you are." His only reply was a scoff. Butch rolled his eyes. "Brick." He spoke his friend's name with force. "This is good. Now, all you gotta do seduce her enough to come with us."
Brick remained silent. He knew Butch was right, but his chest felt heavy with uncertainty.
"What if she hates me?" He asked in a small voice. It was then a small object, Butch's lighter, hit him in the ribs. He glared up at his friend and was surprised to see his dark eyes looking back at him with retaliation.
"You're a fucking Alpha. She's going to be panting over your dick in a week's time. Quit actin' like a pussy." Butch spoke sternly. Brick's chest swelled at the words. Then glared again.
"Don't talk like that about her. She's not a dog in heat." Butch rolled his eyes and took a deep puff of his cigarette.
"You know what I was saying. Now give me back my lighter. I've managed to keep that one for a week now. It's a new record." Brick only smirked as he tossed the lighter back. "Let's get out of here, before cops get here. With how loud he screamed, I'm sure someone called."
The creatures that played at night were a special creation of the Goddess.
With the faces of man, but talents that could rival lower gods.
She watched over them with love and devotion
In return they worshiped only her.
Hello! I hop you all enjoyed this first chapter. This Idea has been dancing through my mind for ages. I do apologize for any grammatical errors or misspelling. I try to reread and catch them, but I always miss some.
*Selene, The Moon Goddess is who I am referring to, however there will be things that come up later on that won't have anything to do with her "Origins"
