Disclaimer: I don't own Twilight
A/N: I don't hate Renesmee- though I do hate Edward and somewhat Bella.
She was dying, slowly slipping away. But the constant, if faint and unsteady, beats of her heart, gave Edward hope. Hope that he could get that thing out of her and inject enough venom into his love's body before she died. That monster growing inside of her had already broken her spine. She was losing so much blood. Edward refused to allow it to take her life too.
The thing was biting it's way out, tearing at Bella's flesh. Edward knew it wouldn't be able to get out before killing Bella, so he leaned down and helped it rip the wound open bigger. Then he reached in, grasped the creature, and yanked it out.
"Edward, let me take the baby. I'm okay now," Rosalie said, walking in with a blanket.
Disgusted, Edward practically threw his child at Rosalie, who gently caught her, throwing her brother a disdainful look before wrapping the blanket around the baby and leaving the room. Edward turned back to Bella, and saw with horror that the light in her eyes was slowly fading. Her body grew still, her breathing shallow.
But the heartbeats were still there.
Jacob back away from Bella. "I won't kill you. That would be too easy. You deserve to live with this," he growled, walking out the door, a defeated look on his face.
Edward grabbed a syringe filled with his venom and plunged it into Bella's heart. There was still a chance she would survive. The beats could still be heard. But, he realised, with a sinking feeling in his stomach, they were becoming fainter and fainter, more and more uneven.
Then they were gone.
There was silence.
Of course, it wasn't truly silent. He was still able hear his faint growls, as he tried to keep Bella alive. He could hear light footsteps around the house, leaves rustling in the wind outside. But the one sound he yearned to hear was the sound he would never hear again.
Furiously, Edward placed bites all over Bella's body, injecting more and more of his venom into her, but he knew that without her heart pumping it around, it would not work. She would not survive. She would die, abandoning him forever, and it was all the fault of that wretched monster Bella and Rosalie had insisted on calling a baby.
He had to kill the thing. He couldn't live while it was still alive, breathing, heart beating.
"I'm so sorry, Bella," he murmured, placing a kiss on her forehead. He missed the warmth that came from her, he shining light in her eyes that brightened up his day. Edward could never feel the warmth or see the light again.
The thing had to die, just like Bella had.
She was prepared to sacrifice herself for it, insisting on carrying it, so sure that Carlisle would be able to save her at last minute. But Carlisle hadn't been there to do it, and not only Bella had paid that price, but all the Cullens were suffering because of her foolish decision. It wasn't fair.
But, Edward reminded himself, since when was anything in life fair?
Then again, this, he felt, was more than unfair. This was cruel. After almost one hundred years of being a vampire, he found his mate, the only woman he could ever love. He lost her once before, and he'd vowed never to let that happen again. But it had happened. His angel had been snatched away from him, and this time, there was no way to get her back.
With a newfound determination, Edward's eyes darkened, and he stormed towards the door, slamming it shut behind him, closing off Bella and the memories in one, swift movement.
That was when he heard the snarls and thoughts of the wolves outside. The pack were here, wanting to kill the child. He could not let that happened. He had to be the one to end the life so soon after it had begun.
"Alice! Jasper!" he shouted, running out the door to see the pack emerging from the forest, Alice and Jasper close behind him.
"We're outnumbered," Jasper said.
"By a lot," Alice added.
"Just hold them off until I get back," Edward instructed.
Alice spun around to look at him. "Where are you going?" she queried.
"It doesn't matter," Edward responded. "Just make sure they don't get to… the child."
Then he ran back inside the house, following the small heartbeats he could hear, and Rosalie's voice cooing to a baby. Once he reached the room Rosalie and the monster were in, he forced a smile on his face, attempting to act as though nothing was amiss.
"Rose," he said. "Please. I want to hold…"
"Her. She's a girl. Renesmee," Rose smiled. She looked at the child with such fondness and love, and she herself seemed so at ease, Edward felt a moment's regret for what he was about to do, and almost decided against it. Almost.
He took the girl from his sister, rocking her gently. While he should have relished in the feeling of holding his own daughter in his arms, a living being he made, Edward instead felt hatred, repulsion, bitterness. It surpassed the feelings of pain and anguish by far.
"Can you… give us a moment. Please," Edward asked, hoping Rosalie would leave him alone with Renesmee. It would be much easier to achieve his end goal that way.
But Rosalie's eyes narrowed, suspiciously. "Why?"
Edward knew she was wondering if he still harboured thoughts of hatred towards the child. But he was a master liar.
"Father daughter bonding."
"You can bond with me right here."
"Yes, but I never thought I could have a child. I never dreamed of it. It would be so much more special if our first memories together were just about the two of us being alone," Edward countered, smoothly.
Rosalie hesitated. "Fine." Then she walked out, shutting the door quietly behind her.
Renesmee smiled, looking up at her father. The smile was so angelic, so beautiful, and Edward felt his resolve crack slightly. But he was determined to do this. The child may look sweet and innocent, but it was a monster.
So he sank his teeth into the side of her neck, piercing the soft, but tough skin. Thirstily, he drank her warm blood, mercilessly taking the life of his daughter.
Well, I've put another twist on one of Twilight's plots. I hope you enjoyed this. Reviews, as always, are much appreciated.
