A Day at the Dance Studio

A Sesame Street fanfiction

By Madeline Fretz

It was a calm day on Sesame Street, and Elmo, Zoe, and Claire Kubart were at Celina's dance studio around the corner watching other kids dance. Just then, the girl and monsters noticed someone who came by.

"Oh Hi. Welcome to Sesame Street!" Claire greeted the viewers.

"Hi!" Zoe and Elmo waved.

"Today we're going to dance." explained Elmo.

The trio pretended to dance. Just then, Gabriela Rodriguez happened by.

"First we have to show you something." Gabi said as she held up a plastic W. "The Letter W."

"We always talk about the alphabet here on Sesame Street." Elmo said.

"That's cool!" exclaimed Claire. "At my old home, we rarely talked about letters of the alphabet."

"This is what the Letter W looks like." Zoe told the viewers. "And you know what? This is what the Letter W sounds like.

Zoe then made the W sound with her mouth.

"And now let's do the W Dance!" Elmo insisted as he, Zoe, Gabi, and Claire did so.

"We're going to show you something that begins with the letter W." explained Gabi.

"Gabi, what is it? Whale? Water? Wig? Walrus? Walking? Wishing Well?" asked Claire excitedly.

"Not quite." Gabi replied. "How about welcome starts with a W?"

All the kids got up and cheered.

"Let's do the welcome dance!" Elmo suggested.

"Ready … Set … Go!" Zoe said, as she, Elmo, Claire, Gabi, and the kids bowed, clapped, and said "Welcome!" to each other. Just then, Celina and Bob walked in.

"Welcome! What did they wanted?" Celina asked the music teacher.

"It certainly is." Bob commented, as he and Celina joined in.

A few minutes later, Bob was at the piano and Celina was with her students. "Before we start today's dance class, I want to thank our special guest piano player - Bob Johnson!"

Everyone gave a round of applause for Bob. "Thank you for playing for us today!" Claire exclaimed.

"My pleasure! What would you like me to play?"

"How about a nice, easy waltz?" Celina suggested.

"What's a waltz?" Claire asked.

"It's a type of dance where you dance with someone to beautiful music while counting to three." Celina replied.

"Alright." Bob nodded.

"And this is how we do the waltz. Gabi, may I please have this dance?" Celina asked Gabi.

"Yes, but I don't know how to do the waltz."

"Oh, that's OK. I'll show you! Just relax and follow me, OK?" Celina said as she taught Gabi how to waltz, as Bob played piano.

"What makes the waltz easy is that is has three counts you can do over and over." Celina told her dance students. "See?"

After Bob finished playing, Celina thanked him, and everyone gave him another round of applause.

"What now?" asked Claire.

"How about we all try the waltz?" Celina suggested.

"Yeah!" the kids loudly replied, as they grabbed partners and learned the waltz together, as Bob played piano again.

"Elmo's not counting!" Claire pointed out, as she was waltzing with a boy named Brandon.

"Elmo, don't forget to count!" Celina told the furry red monster.

Elmo started counting as he waltzed with Zoe. Everyone ended the dance by bowing to one another, and once again gave Bob a round of applause.

"Beautiful waltz, beautiful!" Celina exclaimed.

"So, what do you think?" asked Bob. "How do you like the waltz?"

"I like it." the kids said.

"Well, Elmo likes it, but now Elmo wants to do a different waltz dance." Elmo said.

"Huh? Elmo, what's that?" Claire asked.

"THIS waltz dance! Come on, everybody!" Elmo exclaimed, as he and everyone else started going crazy and saying "Wa-Wa-Wa."

After that, Claire had an idea. "How about we do another dance?"

"Oh really? How does it go?" wondered Celina.

"Here. I'll show you." Claire explained.

There's a whole lot of dances in this big wide world

Some are fast and some are slow.

You can waltz the waltz, you can twist the twist Or have a go-go at the tango.

But if you're confused, and find it hard to choose

There's one dance I guarantee you just can't lose!

Do the YOU, do the YOU!

I'll do the me, you do the YOU!

Celina:

Listen to the beat, let it talk to your feet,

And make the moves that I know only you can do!

Claire:

Do the You, do the You!

I'll do the me, you do the You!

Gabi:

Make it smooth or make it funky,

Claire:

Tap out a groove, or be a monkey..

Celina:

Just listen to your heart, it'll know where to start,

Elmo:

it doesn't matter if it's old or new,

Zoe:

So let your feelings come on through

Bob:

You'll always be the best, it's true,

All:

When you do the ... YOU!

After that, Elmo, Zoe, Claire, and Celina were just exiting the dance studio.

"Sesame Street has been brought to you today by the Letter W" Celina started announcing the sponsors. Elmo and Zoe made the W sound.

"...The letter Y…" Claire continued. The two monsters made the Y sound. "...And the number 10." Elmo and Zoe started counting to ten.

"Sesame Street is a production of…" Celina said.

"...The Children's Television Workshop!" Claire and Celina said, and the four then said goodbye to the viewer, who left.
