Chapter One: The Fastest Way To End A Perfect Relationship

Once the bell at Spoonerville High School rang, all the students ran out and cheered loudly as the summer vacation of 1997 had finally begun.

One particular student, Max Goof, felt very good. Not only did he feel good about finishing the eleventh grade, but he felt good that he managed to keep up his popularly up since the start of the summer vacation of 1995 when the whole school saw him do his concert in the school assembly dressed as Powerline and then some days later dancing with the real Powerline and his dad Goofy at the L.A. concert. Since then, he kept his popularly up by doing a lot of cool activities. Some of those activities were sports like football and basketball where he helped the school to win many trophies and the others were entertainment activities like winning talent shows and playing leads in school plays and musicals.

As Max kept walking away from the school, he was greeted by all the students and asked him if he was to go to their parties and other stuff during this summer vacation. Then he was given a surprise hug and kiss on his cheek from someone behind. "Congratulations on getting through the eleventh grade, Max."

When he turned to see who kissed him, he felt happier than ever. "Thanks, Roxanne. Congrats to you too." He kissed his girlfriend on the cheek back.

"Tough grade, wasn't it?"

"Yeah, but we showed that grade nothing could stop us, didn't we?"

"We sure did."

"And we'll do it again next year. We'll show the twelfth grade what we're made off."

"We sure will." That was what Roxanne always loved about him the most: his love, his support, his encouragement and his persistence. And in return she was always his biggest cheerleader. Everything he ever attended to, she was always there to encourage him and either congratulate him whenever he won or support him whenever he lost. But whenever he didn't win anything, he was glad that she was there to support him. In fact, he felt that being with her and earning her love and respect was his biggest trophy of all time.

Then they were greeted by their friends PJ, Bobby and Stacey and they all congratulated each other for getting through the eleventh grade.

"So do you any of you guys have any idea where we might go to celebrate tonight?" Max asked.

They all started to think, but there was plenty of choice in Spoonerville that they couldn't agree on which one to go to.

"Roxanne, is there anywhere you would like me to take you this summer?" Max asked. "It'll be my treat to you to say well done for getting through this year."

Roxanne giggled shyly. "Oh, Max. You really are so sweet and generous. Well, there is one place that I've always wanted to visit. It's in –"

Before she could finish, Max, Roxanne and their friends heard a car honk. They turned to see that the car honk belonged to the car of Roxanne's dad. As she ran to speak to him, Max studied the car and noticed that it was full of luggage. "Did she tell any of you guys that if she was going on vacation at all?" he asked.

They all said no as they studied the luggage with him.

"Hmm, there's quite a lot of luggage for a vacation," Stacey said. "Even for a big one."

When Roxanne went back to them, she no longer had her happy face. She looked like she could burst into tears.

"What's up, Roxanne?" Max asked.

"I only have five minutes before I have to go with Daddy, so I'll be quick," she said.

"Where are you going to with your dad?"

"To Dallas. And we're not going there for a vacation. We're moving there permanently."

Her friends gasped. They couldn't believe they were losing a beloved friend in only a matter of seconds.

"Daddy hasn't told me the full story yet, but he's told me that his friend has found him a job there and we must go at once. He just sold the house today." Still trying to hold her tears back, Roxanne went to hug her best friend Stacey.

"Have a good life in Dallas," Stacey said. "And send me a few letters every now and then."

"I will, Stacey," Roxanne said.

"And we'll all try and come and see you whenever we can," Stacey said.

"Thanks. Take Care." Then Roxanne went to hug Bobby and PJ and they all wished each other well. Then she finally went to Max.

"I'm sorry it's come to this, Max," she said. "After all, we've been through to make this relationship work."

"It's not your fault, Roxanne." Max was just as upset about this as she was, but he was doing his best to keep his support and encouragement up. He hoped this wouldn't be the last time he ever saw her in his life, but he knew that it could be so the last thing he wanted to do was to ruin this farewell moment. He took her hands and held them gently. "Roxanne, I loved spending every second I did with you."

Roxanne managed to give a sad smile. "And I loved being with you every second I could, Max." Then she gave a sad sigh. "I know I have to go, but I don't want to. And I don't want you to think that if I ever find some other guy in Dallas, I don't want you to think that I will forget you or that you'll be nothing to me ever. You'll always be special to me. I just can't promise that I'll come back into your life, no matter how much I want to."

"I understand how you're feeling," Max said, taking her hands. "I felt the same when my dad and I moved to Spoonerville when I was eleven and a half years old. I was happy in that caravan with my dad and at my old school with my old friends and I didn't want to move. Now, I tell myself if my dad and I didn't move to here, well, I would missed out of this school, I wouldn't have made the friends I made and, most of all, I wouldn't have met you at all."

Roxanne would have given a little smile, but her dad honked at her – louder than the last time.

"Moving and settling does take time, but I have every faith you will enjoy life in Dallas," Max continued, trying to be supportive yet quickly as he could as he knew Roxanne's dad was glaring at him. "And, if I don't see or hear from you again, just remember one thing. Wherever you are, whatever you do and whoever you are with, I will never forget you and I will always wish you nothing but all the success and happiness you can ever have. And I'll try to keep in contact with you the best way I can."

Roxanne couldn't seem to hold her tears back. Max hoped he hadn't made her more upset than she was already, because that was always the last thing he ever wanted to do. Then he was surprised when she hugged him.

"Thank you for encouragement, Max," she sobbed. "And thank you for all the times we spent together. You have really made the last two years of my life very happy and very special. No matter what happens to me, I will never forget you and I will always miss you. I wish you nothing but as much success and happiest as you can have as well. And I'll do all I can to keep in contact with you as well."

Then the car horn beeped again very loudly. Roxanne started to walk to the car, but then she stopped. She turned back to Max and kissed him. After her dad honked the car horn as loudly and long as he could, she was rushed into her dad's car. She sadly waved goodbye to her friends and they sadly waved back until she was out of sight.

"Can I get you a milky-shaky, Stacey-babe?" Bobby asked gently, as he put his arm around her. "I'll pay."

"Thanks, Bobby," Stacy said sadly, taking his arm. "I could use one."

"See you guys at Max's Barbeque later?" PJ asked.

"Yep, we won't be late," Stacey said, as she and Bobby went to the milkshake place while PJ and Max started to head back home.
