Summary: When Elena goes to the Mount Fuergo to settle things with the supposed monster peacefully she doesn't come across only one magical being but two.
Pairing: Jake x Elena
Disclaimer: I don't own Elena of Avalor or American Dragon
"Princess Elena, your escort is assembled and ready." Gabe informs Elena, pointing at about 50 soldiers once she steps out of the castle.
"Uhm, it's a friendly visit Gabe. Not an invasion." She tells him while she's holding a present for Charoca.
"But your grandfather said it's too dangerous to go there alone." Gabe says when she walks over to her horse.
"Alright then, settle up." She replies.
"You heard the princess, let's go!" Gabe tells his men.
"Oh, no not them. Just you, then I won't be alone." She says.
"Did you hear that guys? She just needs me." Gabe brags to the other guards while Elena is already riding away on Canela.
"Are you sure?" A guard asks, nodding to the princess.
"Follow her Fuego." Gabe quickly tells his horse, jumping on its back and chases after the princess.
Half an hour later Gabe and Elena arrive at the Mount Fuergo, where the monster is supposed to reside.
"Gabe, look. Does this look like a place where a monster live?" Elena asks him, looking around the many colorful stones lied out and the designs carved into the sand.
She then stumbles because of a hole and Gabe overreacts, jumping in front of her and telling her to fall back.
"Gabe, it's just a hole. You can put that away." Elena tells him, nodding at his sword while she stands up.
"You know, I brought my own secret weapon. No one can resist avaloran chocolate. Now stay here." She tells him as she enters the house standing right beneath the top of the Vulcan.
"Hello? Anybody home?" She asks, knocking on the door and stepping inside.
"Senor Charoca?" She asks, looking around the seemingly empty house except for a pile of rocks near the opposite wall.
"Guess I'll just have to wait." She says and sits down on the rocks.
"Uhmm, I'd get up." A voice says from above and suddenly Elena gets thrown of himself by Charoca, who was the pile of rocks in fact.
"Get off me!" He says annoyedly.
"So you think it's alright to just come in my house and sit on me?" Charoca asks accusingly.
"I'm sorry, I thought you were a chair." Elena tells the humanoid rock being about 3 times her size.
"So I look like a chair to you?" He asks angrily.
"Uhh, yes. Yes you do." The voice from the roof of the hut says and suddenly a dragon, just slightly smaller than Charoca himself but far slimmer than the bulky rock being flies down, sitting on one of Charoka's shoulders.
"No, I don't think so, let's start over. I'm princes..." Elena says trying to apologize.
"I don't care who you are. I told you kids to stay away." Charoca says still pissed.
"Chill dude." The dragon tells him, looking at the princess intrigued.
"Ok, no need to get all heated up." She says.
"Oh, is that supposed to be some kind of joke?" Charoca asks, leaning down to glare at her on eye level. The dragon hops of his friends' shoulder, landing right next to him, standing just in front of the princess.
"No, chocolate?" She asks, offering her present and the dragon accepts the box just before Charoca yells "Now get out already!"
"Hey, calm down big guy, look I'm sorry about him…" the dragon says, stepping closer and offering a handshake to Elena who flinched back when Charoca yelled and is now leaning against the door.
In that same moment Gabe rips open the door and snatches the princess out of the hut, taking her hadn and basically throws her onto her horse before he takes off on his horse, pulling the princess's alongside him.
Another half an hour later Elena is standing in front of the Grand Council.
"I had it all under control." Elena says protesting.
"Lieutenant Nunes I thank you for rescuing my granddaughter." Francisco says.
"First the monster attacked the children and now it's attacked the crown princess." Esteban says dramatically.
"Actually there were two of them. One was some kind of rock monster and the other looked like a dragon, from those old tales." Gabe reports.
"Even worse. Those two are a threat to our kingdom and we should throw them out before someone else gets hurt." Esteban says.
"I don't think they'd hurt anyone." Elena protests.
"How do you know?" Esteban questions.
"I just have a feeling. And the other one tried to calm down the Charoca." She tells them.
"Elena, feelings are important, but rulers must decide based on facts." Her grandfather tells her.
"And we can say for a fact that those monsters are a danger to everyone in the kingdom, right?" Esteban announces, looking at Gabe, who nods in agreement.
"I say we vote to remove them from Avalor immediately. All in favor?" Esteban says and everyone raises their arm in agreement.
"Fine." Elena says annoyed and waltzes out of the council room while Esteban tells Gabe to assemble the guards.
"Look Elena. This rock got so hot that it turned to glass." Isabelle tells her sister, who is walking down the corridor annoyed.
"That's great Isabelle." She replies.
"You didn't even look at it." Her sister says disappointed.
"I'm sorry. It's just not a good… Wait, where did you get that?" Elena asks Isabelle, seeing the familiar rock, which looks like one of the decorations on the Charoca's home.
"From one of my friends. They get them from the Mount Fuergo." Isabelle tells her.
"Oh, that's why he's so mad. I have to go." Elena tells her, giving her sister a quick hug and hurries to the balcony where the Jaquins usually lie.
"Skylar, I need you to take me back to the Mount Fuergo." Elena tells her blue dotted friend.
"Oh, not the one with the rock monster. Sorry princessa, I wish I could help but I have a cramp in my left wing." He says unconvincingly, stretching out his right wing.
"That's your right wing." She says.
"It's spreading." He says.
"Come on Skylar, please." She begs him and he agrees shortly afterwards.
"Elena. I'm sorry I voted against you." Naomi says, catching up to her friend, who's already sitting on Skylar's back.
"It's OK Naomi. You did what you thought was right and now I have to do the same." Elena replies.
"What do you mean?" Naomi questions confused.
"I have a pretty good idea why Charoca was so angry, I just need to be sure." Elena informs her.
"You're not going…" Naomi says.
"Sure am." Elena replies.
"Well then I'm coming with you." Naomi tells her, going over to Luna.
The two girls and two Jaquins then fly over to the town beneath Mount Fuergo and collect the colored rocks the kids took from the Charoca. Afterwards the two girls go to the Charoca's home and put the stones back where they belong.
"Stay calm, stay cool. In with the cool out with the hot." Charoca says to himself, sitting in a meditative pose with his dragon friend doing the same, sitting across from him.
The two suddenly hear whispering coming from outside and the dragon gets up saying "I'll go handle it. You keep staying calm." He says, going to the door but Charoca is already standing behind him, saying "No, it's my house so I have to do this."
"You again?" Charoca says annoyed, going over to Elena and Naomi once both he and his friend are outside.
"It's not what you think. Look." Elena says, pointing at the stones the two girls returned to their spot.
"You brought them back." Charoca says happily, rushing around his garden and greeting the stones by name.
"He named his rocks?" Naomi asks.
"You got a problem with that?" Charoca asks, his head burning with fire again.
"Not me." Naomi says quickly while the dragon uses one of his wings to put out the flame burning on Charoca's head.
"I didn't get the chance to introduce myself before. I am crown princess Elena." Elena introduces herself.
"You're the crown princess? And you brought back my rocks. That's all I wanted. Thank you your majesty. Most people don't treat me with that kind of respect." He tells her.
"You're welcome and they should." Elena says.
"When people look at us, all they see are monsters." Charoca says.
"Hah, speak for yourself big guy, I'm just so awesome they don't believe their eyes." The dragon brags.
"I'm sorry, Who are you? I never got your name." Elena asks the dragon.
"I'm Jake Long. Nice to meet you again and thanks for the food earlier." He greets her.
"How come no one told us about you anyways?" Elena asks, turning to Naomi.
"Hey, I had no idea." She defends herself.
"I have just recently been staying here with Charoca. I was passing by and saw that he was in desperate need of a friend. Case and point." Jake tells her, pointing to Charoca who's cuddling a rock while talking to it.
"Oh that is nice of you." Elena says.
"Yeah well, I was hoping I could help him with his anger problems but meditating only helps him so much." Jake says, nodding up at the smoke coming from the Vulcan.
"So he's not a bad guy afterall, he only has anger management problems." Naomi says while Charoca rejoins them.
"Yes, but I've been working on that." He tells them.
"Don't worry Charoca, nobody will treat you like a monster ever again." Elena tells him, putting her hand on his arm.
"Seize that monster!" Esteban tells his men, arriving at the Charoca's home with Gabe and a handful of soldiers.
"What? Esteban stop!" Elena shouts at her cousin while he and the guard ready their weapons.
"I thought you wanted to be my friend, but you were just setting me up for a sneak attack." Charoca accuses Elena pissed.
"That's not true. I was only trying to help." Elena replies.
"He's getting angry." Naomi says when Charoca's innards turn red and a flame shoots out of the top of his head while he lifts up human sized rocks and hurls them at the guard.
"They want a monster, I'll give them a monster." He yells, throwing his second rock after missing the first one.
"Stop big guy, you know this isn't the way." Jake shouts, flying in front of the guard and catching the projectile, only for one of the guards to stab him in his back.
At seeing this Charoca gets even angrier and gysers of hot steam sprout forward from the ground, causing the soldiers to retreat.
"Princessa hop on." Skylar says, landing next to the girls while the Vulcan starts to erupt, lava pouring out of its top.
"What do you think you're doing?" Esteban asks Elena when she and Naomi land in front of the retreating guard squad.
"We were doing fine until you…" Naomi tells him.
"You defied the vote of the council Elena. I must inform them of the fiasco you created." Esteban lectures them.
"Attacking him is what caused all of this." Elena says.
"The Lava is coming!" A villager warns them.
"And it's heading for the schoolhouse." His wife tells them.
"I have an idea your majesty. We can build a barrier to divert the lava away from the school." Gabe suggests.
"But how can we build it so quickly?" The villager asks.
"With a squadron of the bravest guards in the kingdom." Gabe says.
"And me." Naomi adds.
"And us." The two Jaquins say.
A few minutes later they finished their makeshift barrier of rocks just before the lava will reach them.
"Everybody back!" Gabe warns everyone, ushering them further into the village when the lava reaches the barrier, which holds up at first, until some rocks slide out of place and lava pours through the opening.
"What now?" Naomi asks.
"I don't know…" Elena says. Moments later a large shadow spreads over the group and Jake descents towards them at a quick pace.
"Guard, ready yourselves." Gabe shouts, drawing his sword.
"No! Look, he's trying to stop the lava." Elena shouts while Jake lands in the stream of lava and picks up the rocks, sliding them back into place before breathing a wall of fire at the rocks, heating them enoughto melt the cracks in between where lava is seeping through and then flaps his wings wildly, while clawing into the floor with the talon's on his feet until it cooled down and hardened.
"He did it!" Elena shouts happily.
"No!" A voice yells from the top of the mountain and they look up to see Charoca panicking when lava is pouring down the mountain right at his home and his rock friends.
"Ugh!" Jake grunts, ripping his legs free from the ground and flies up to help him.
"We've got to help Charoca." Elena tells Naomi.
"How?" She asks.
"I've got an idea." Elena tells her, looking at the water tray for the horses.
She tells the Jaquins to fly them up while carrying the water in between them and they soon reach the mountain protrusion where Jake and Charoca are.
"Come on, you've got enough rocks. Let's get out of here. I can help you build a better home once you calm down and the lava stops." Jake tells him, holding a bag of rocks Charoca collected from around his garden.
"No, I've gotta cool down. In with the cool out with the hot." He says, trying to calm down and moments later his innards shine a bright blue again.
"Maybe I can cool the lava down like I just did with my rocks." Charoca says, showing Jake the now colorful rocks instead of them almost melting in his palm.
"Are you sure it's worth the risk? We can always rebuild your home." Jake warns him.
"I've got to try." Charoca says but before he can try to cool down the lava it suddenly stops and cool down due to water being poured on it by the Jaquins with Elena and Naomi riding on them.
"You saved my house." Charoca says thankfully, turning to Elena and her companions.
"It is my duty to protect everyone who lives in Avalor afterall, including you." Elena tells him.
"The Mount Fuergo stopped erupting." Elena notes happily.
"But we've still got a problem." Naomi tells them, pointing down where the lava is flowing around the school but is still headed for the village itself.
"We have to get more water." Elena says decisively.
"There isn't enough time. I'll do my best, but I don't think I can stop it this time." Jake tells them, going to the edge and jumping down, flying towards the road the lava is flowing through and starts hitting the sides of the mountain, causing some rocks to fall down and pile up at the end of the road.
"I did this. I lost my cool and now they're all in danger because of me. I have to fix it!" Charoca says, jumping off the mountain after a moment of collecting his thoughts.
"The lava is coming. Everyone, get back!" Gabe alerts the villagers, helping them clear out the pathway the lava would take and turns around when he hears loud crashes coming from behind him, seeing Jake clawing and ripping through the wall around the pathway, collapsing it to slow down the lava flow and suddenly sees Charoca flying towards them.
"Decided to join the party? Hope you know what you're doing." Jake tells Charoca, flying behind the rock monster and hovers in the air.
"I can fix it. In with the hot out with the cool." Charoca says confidently, repeating his mantra while blocking the flow of lava with his large body and watches the lava raise until it's covering him entirely and hardens into solid rock.
"Charoca!" Elena shouts, rushing towards where the rock being is half covered by rock.
"Princess, stand back please." Jake tells her, landing on top of the wall of rocks and kicks at his friends head which is poking out of the former lava stream.
"Will you get loose already." He grunts, kicking his head multiple times, until Charoca falls out backwards unceremoniously, causing the crowd which gathered to cheer.
"Dumbass." Jake grumbles, sitting down on the edge of the wall where he kicked his friend free from.
"Hah, I stayed cool." Charoca says relieved, looking at the princess while he's getting up.
"You did. You really did it. Both of you." She says happily, hugging the rock being.
Hours later the village is throwing a festival for Charoca and prepare food for everyone.
"Aha, there she is. Princess Elena disobeyed the court and took matters in her own hands." Esteban says, coming over to her and Naomi with her grandparents.
"I was only trying to do what I thought was right." Elena defends herself.
"And she was right." Naomi adds, pointing at Charoca who is roasting some marshmallows for the village kids.
"You may have been right this time Elena, but the law is the law. As crown princess you must respect the decisions of the council." Her grandfather says.
"But sometimes the heart just knows best Francisco." His wife says.
"I'll tell you what. Next time I'll do what the council says if you have a more open heart." Elena suggests.
"That I can promise." Francisco agrees.
"OK, enough royal business. We're missing the party." His wife says and the elder couple joins the villagers at the festivities.
"Elena looks after her grandparents, who introduce themselves to Charoca with a grin on her face, until she hears cursing from around the corner and decides to check it out.
"Aww man, I'll never get this stuff off." She hears Jake curse, looking at his rock covered dragon claws.
Elena rushes over to Gabe and steals his sword, telling him that she'll give it right back.
"Hey, maybe I can help." She says going back to where Jake is sitting by himself on a branch of a tree.
Jake looks at her for a second before jumping down, landing in front of her.
"Try your best. It's not like it can get much worse." He tells her, offering his paws to her.
Elena attempts to pry loose the stone from around his claws but uses to much strength and slips off with the blade heading right at herself.
"Ouch." Jake hisses, shaking his hand after he reacted quickly and stopped the blade with the back of his hand.
"I'm so sorry. I'm only making it worse." She says guiltily.
"Don't worry. I have tough skin." Jake tells her, grabbing the blade himself and pries of the pieces of rock from his opposite hand one by one.
"You are really skilled with the blade, how come?" She asks, watching him curiously.
"Well I'm not always a dragon." He says, shrinking down to his human appearance, where he is slightly shorter than her with dark green hair on his head and his skin is a fairer color than anyone else she's seen in Avalor, even more than Naomi's.
"Wow. I never heard of dragons begin able to become humans." Elena says amazed.
"Well how often have you met a dragon?" Jake asks her.
"Never." She replies.
"Bingo. We're not really much in the form of outgoing people but I was just too bored staying within our tribe, never having any contact outside of it so I left." He tells her.
"Wow, maybe you can introduce me to your people sometime, I'd like to meet them." She suggests.
"I don't think that's possible. Once someone leaves, they are forbidden from returning. It's a one-way trip." Jake tells her, turning back into his dragon form and continues prying off the stone from his hands and feet.
"I'm sorry." She says.
"It's OK. My parents said they always knew I'd leave because I'm a dragon kind that only appears every few hundred years and all of them left just like me." Jake explains.
"Those are the dragons you guys have heard about I'm guessing." Jake adds, looking over to her, while Elena is sitting on a rock listening to him intently.
"Say, why didn't you show us earlier that you were also human? Wouldn't that have made things easier?" She asks.
"I'm not really helpful when I'm human, I guess you could call me the king of clumsy. It's a drawback of staying in dragon form for almost my whole life." Jake tells her, finishing removing the stone from his appendages.
"Thanks for the sword." He says, offering it back to her.
"No problem." She replies, taking the sword and lying it down next to her.
"Aren't you going to join them?" Jake asks, nodding to the direction of the party.
"Not if you're not coming too." She says, offering him her hand.
"hmpf. I guess I don't have a reason not to." He says getting up from the floor where he sat down to remove the stone from his feet.
"Oh no, I forgot. We better get a doctor to look at you." Elena suddenly says, seeing the stab wound on his back.
"Ah don't worry that will heal just fine. In a couple of days, it'll be gone. As will this." He tells her, showing her that the cut on the back of his hand is already crusted over.
"OK, two days. If it's not gone by then I'm taking you to a doctor, I don't care if I have to sick every Jaquin on you and drag you there." She tells him decisively.
"If you say so, but you're talking like I'm going to stick around in Avalor." Jake says.
"Aren't you?" She asks.
"I guess it couldn't hurt. I'm sure a country with such a beautiful princess will have a lot to offer." Jake says with a smirk and suddenly dives under her, knocking her over, with her landing on his back while he catches her with his tail and sits her on it, holding her steady before taking off in the air and flies over the festival, doing a couple of rounds before Skylar joins them.
"No fair, I thought I was the princessa's ride." Skylar complains.
"You are Skylar. Jake is just fooling around.
"Please, as if you're a better ride than me." He tells Skylar cockily.
"Hah, we'll see about that. I'm sure you won't even be able to keep up." Skylar taunts him and takes off, flying ahead of them.
"Are you OK up there?" Jake asks Elena, turning his head so he can look at her.
"Yeah." She tells him grinning.
"Now hurry up or Skylar will win." She says, pointing at the Jaquin already a couple hundred feet away from them.
"Hold on your highness." Jake tells her and flaps his wings, speeding up drastically. Catching up to the Jaquin in a couple of seconds.
"Who's faster now?" Jake asks, folding his hands over his chest while speeding past the Jaquin.
"Oh no, I'm sorry Princessa. I'm not the fastest flyer in the Kingdom after all." Skylar says disappointed, lowering his head to the princess once they stop.
"It's alright Skylar, you don't need to be the fastest. You are my friend either way." She tells him, patting the Jaquins head.
