Hello. This fanfiction is a translation of "Lanzado la desesperación" fanfiction that I had started some months ago. The min reason to do this, was to see that not only many of lector of this fanfic are from English speaker countries, but to see that the majority of fanfics here are English written, so doing this should reach more people.

While is not the first translation to English I had done, it have been a while from since, so any correction on grammar or dialect can help me to improve the translation.

There is people who says, that life is always full of surprises if you live enough. That is true, but also, weird when you know that the most surprising thing happened to me actually happened after my death.

At the age of 21, I died, and got not only revived, but invoked to another world, where I became a hero.

And as a summoned hero, I have a duty, but I also have my own opinions on many of the things that surprises me in this world. And right now, it seems like I'm being tested in some way.

"Still, I can't accept this."

"How can you say that after seeing them like this?"

Me, Motoyasu Kitamura had fought against the shield hero with the goal of giving freedom to his demi-human slave, whom he made fight the monsters of the wave despite having a level lower than 30.

It was a much tougher fight than I imagined, even tougher than the boss of that wave. Despite being half my level, he scoffed when his shield was able to stop my thrust, he defended well against my combos, and even forced me to use an special move, which dealt less damage than I expected.

At some point, he started to fight back, using abilities to block and limit my movements, and using monster balloons to deal damage. My HP did drop almost nothing, and I destroyed these balloons in one hit, but they were annoying anyway and people were starting to think that I was the weak one there. I didn't wasted the opportunity when he stumbled once, and I won that way.

But then when he was going to comfort the poor slave who had been used ...

*Paf*

"Why did you do this, did I ask for your help?"

"B-but ..."

No matter what I said to him, he rejected my words and actions. Not only that, she went to Naofumi, and despite the fact that he rejected her and told her to stay away, she stayed by his side, willing not to leave him alone no matter what happens.

Currently, and giving them one last look, I could see the shield resting calmly in Raphtalia's arms.

After some time, I learned that she had returned to being a slave, although for some reason she seemed happy with it.

I don't have in mind to get involved with her again. I no longer have a chance with her at least.

Shortly after this, I was offered jurisdiction over a village due to my achievements during the wave, but there I met Naofumi again, this time with a wagon and some kind of plump, plumed ostrich, although he seemed to understand human language, because it kicked me when it got the chance.

Because Naofumi would not stop complaining, we agreed to a race for the right to the village, and although that giant bird did not have the level of my dragon, and he stumbled and varied his speed every so often, he managed to beat me.

Again, I had lost against the shield, but that would not stay that way. Next time I wouldn't lose. Even if it was a defeat event, I do not plan to lose again.

But my duties as a hero couldn't be put aside just because I wanted to fix things with him. There were still people who needed me and my power as a hero of the spear.

That said...

"Very well, here is the solution to your problem."

"Hero-sama, that seed ...?"

"It's what you need to solve your famine problem. I went through a dungeon to find it, but the important thing is that we do it. Use it wisely."

"Y-if you say so hero-sama, we gladly accept it."

Traveling around I came across a village that suffered from a shortage of resources, and happened to hear about a magic seed capable of producing food in quantity. It was easy to intuit that both were related issues, being then a mission to find that seed and deliver it to the people to save them from famine. The difficulty was somewhat high, but being at level 50 helped a lot.

"I will be traveling to get stronger, so by the time I return, I hope your village has grown stronger too."

"Y-yes, we will!"

Being prepared is important, and finding efficient leveling zones was a priority for this.

I am aware that this world is not identical to Emerald Online in several respects. The fact that it is impossible for me to equip a weapon of another category besides the spear did not happen there, since even the lancer class had other secondary weapons. It was also different both of the language and the distribution of towns and people, although if the spear did not translate texts for me it was probably because they weren't important.

But what really amazes me are the NPCs. From the background characters who always do different things every day when I look at them, to those who are direct supporters.

I managed to get several of them on my side from the beginning, but by far the best partner I have gotten was Mein.

Protecting her from the attack of the shield hero to gain her trust, receive quality equipment from her, and other interactions have allowed me to advance a lot as the spear hero, being also the King's favorite, and with some of the best weapons and materials to level up.

Right now, she was the one who guided me to find the seed that would save the town, and even helped me find a new place with some of the monsters that survived from the last wave. To that place I'm going now.

Hah, I can't wait to get all sorts of rare materials and unlock new weapons to show off to Ren and Itsuki. Of course, then I plan to tell them where it is, or share some stuff ... after getting mine of course.

"Alright girls, let's go!"

"""Yes!"""

This was to another day of adventure for me, Kitamura Motoyasu, the hero of the spear that will save the world.

"Damn, damn! Damn it!"

In any open world RPG it was not uncommon for someone to underestimate the difficulty of an area and go anyway because they had been told they could get rare items and more experience.

But Motoyasu wasn't stupid enough to do something like that when he had his companions around.

He cleared an area in the forest getting rid of the monsters and pitched his tent there, so that they could come back and rest at any moment. He even made sure to have a marked point for his portal spear there, and another in the capital, so that they can be quickly transported for supplies or medical care and to better store the items obtained.

The problem was a row of negligence that, in hindsight, seemed to invite misfortune itself.

To begin with, after discovering that a certain monster that gives a lot of experience appeared more easily when detecting strong liquors, they decided to get a good supply of it in the city, and to send it comfortably, they teleported to the tent with the liquor barrels concentrate and the goal of spilling them on the ground little by little to attract these monsters.

This meant that for an hour after arriving they did not have the portal spear available.

The second biggest mistake was not investigating the habits of the monster they had decided to kill, because if they had, they would have waited and gone on a less busy schedule.

And his third major failure was being lazy enough to drop the liquor on the ground too close to the tent. The idea was to facilitate the transfer of resources from the monsters so as not to waste time, but quickly, things went bad.

Very bad.

The monsters were similar to monkeys, although they were hairy and strong enough to look like bears, and they quickly took the bait, being quickly hunted by Motoyasu. The problem arose when some went not because of the bait they had placed, but because of the bait that still remained.

It turned out that Mein, feeling confident about the superiority of the spear, decided to help herself to some of the liquor to kill the time, and the monsters ended up approaching the tent where those three were watching the hero fight.

But monsters are monsters, and even if they were attracted to liquor more than people, a person who voluntarily filled himself with liquor was a two-for-one that they definitely weren't going to turn down. Using their agility and flexibility, some climbed the trees, surrounding the busy hero and quickly catching up with his three companions. From there, things only went from bad to worse.

Surrounded by monsters, even knowing that they needed to ask for help, the three understood that if they made a fuss, they would only get the monsters to start their attack, so the only thing they could do was pray that Motoyasu would notice.

One of these monsters in particular, somewhat larger and more muscular, covered in scars from countless fights, stepped forward as the others stepped aside. It wasn't very difficult to know that this was probably the head of the pack.

Mein's hand with the glass of wine was still up, and she tried to approach that glass to the monster, perhaps thinking about giving it what he wanted as a form of payoff to let her go.

The boss monster sniffed what was being offered, and after a few seconds accepted it. In a flash, the boss monster bit down on Mein's arm, accepting both the glass of liquor and the meat that was presented in front of him.

The scream of this one surpassed that of the other two together, causing the hero of the spear to finally realize the situation, as well as initiating the joint attack of the monsters towards the girls.

They reacted quickly, using both their weapons and some magic to save themselves. To save themselves, it must be said, because they neither decided to approach each other, nor did they try to help Mein who was still screaming and howling, caught by her arm being bitten. Needless to say, they did not see, or did not heed, her almost unintelligible pleas.

Realizing that she would not be helped by those two, and in a fit of despair, the princess of Melromarc used her magic with all her power. However, there were no songs or prayers, for he did not have the time to sing them, or even the calm to remember them. Without chants to guide the magic, all he accomplished was wasting his magic on a wave of fire that might be more useful as a warning than an attack.

But by doing it from close up, he managed to wound the boss monster, which in response reinforced its bite and shook its head, throwing Mein's body to the side.

Still in shock, she paid no attention to her injuries and instead screamed at the closest person she had, a few feet away in front of her.

"E- Elena, help me! Elena!"

The aforementioned Elena looked down enough to see her injured partner on the ground, but her eyes showed no intention of helping her. What is more, she was not the only one to see her.

The scream attracted the attention of the monsters that were pointing at Elena, and when they turned to see the wound, Elena took the opportunity to escape. The monsters for their part only adjusted their positions as they approached Mein.

Her expression twisted in panic as she tried to get to her feet and escape, somehow trying to get close to the spear hero, but falling face-first to the ground, only to find then that, in fact, the arm that had been bitten was no longer there. Everything that should have gone after the left elbow was gone.

And the creatures watching her weren't going to give her time to understand her situation.

"Ahhh !? Noo, girls!" As soon as I heard a scream behind me, I turned around fearing the worst, and confirming my fears by seeing my companions in the refuge surrounded by monsters.

However, I made a mistake doing it while dealing with other monsters in front of me, who did not miss the opportunity to attack because they saw me lower my guard in this way. The impact was not strong, but it was enough for me to lose my balance and expose myself to the attack of the others, so I had to use one of my most powerful and fastest area skills to defeat them.

"Damn, damn, damn it!"

I ran at full speed to catch up with them and managed to see how Mein managed to defend herself from a monster that bit her, causing him to throw her aside. Seeing that he hadn't fallen completely, I used my spear to pierce his back while he was stunned and quickly defeated him. In front of me I could see both Mein on the ground and Elena facing monsters from one side, as well as my third ally cornered by monsters.

I made my decision when I heard Mein ask Elena for help, and I decided to trust her to protect her for a few moments until I defeated the monsters on the other side, so that the four of us can survive without casualties.

Running towards my other partner, I wiped out the monsters on one side and stepped in front of her to protect her.

"M-Motoyasu-sama!"

"Don't worry, I'll take care of this in an instant!"

Killing the monsters on one side only left those on the other side to defeat, which would be easy given the difference in levels. Yes, as long as I stayed alert then...

"I was so scared!"

"Huh? Wait! What are you doing ?!"

The girl I was protecting clung to my back desperately. Normally this wouldn't bother me, but right now I was busy and couldn't afford these kinds of distractions.

"Gahhahhhhhhhh!"

"Ah?!"

"Ahhgg!"

I got distracted.

The second I focused on my frightened companion, it was not one of those in front of me, but a monster that had used the vegetation to attack me from above that, along with a howl, attacked me from behind.

Yes, right where my partner whom I had decided to protect was clinging.

She had tried to protect me with her body. And the result was to receive the attack of the claws of this monster on his back.

Seriously, is this some kind of event…?

For a few moments that felt eternal, I could feel his hands detach from my clothes as they fell, as well as the growls of monsters that even seemed to be mocking.

I didn't think twice about using a zone skill to get rid of all of them in an instant.

I carried the injured girl on my back and ran to my other companions, and that's when I realized that in the seconds that I had left them alone, things had gotten worse.

Elena was not there, and instead, Mein was on the ground howling as she was attacked from all directions.

In an attempt to cut the distance between them at least a little more, I used my throwing skills, waving my spear to push the monsters away as soon as I got close enough. They fell back, but it did not appear that they were going to flee after having chosen their prey.

My eyes moved looking for Elena, and I found her running away from where they were.

Although anyone would have understood this as a sign that she had deliberately abandoned Mein, I trusted her, and I understood that she was surely overcome by the situation and prioritized her life, so I do not blame her for it.

Instead, I just yelled at her.

"Elenaaaaa! I will definitely come back for you, so wait for me!"

I opened a potion and threw the contents of it over the wounded girls and protected them for some minutes until the teletransportation spear was refreshed.

Once I saw it charged, I used a blinding ability that I had gained from hunting monsters that looked like giant fireflies, I used my teleport ability, which, due to its short area of effect, could only teleport myself and companions within ten feet of it. And the chosen teleportation point was the room he had in the royal palace.

Once there, my goal was to get to the palace emergency room so that the two of them receive the best possible medical help. But before that, I took out the potions I had stored in my spear, opened them, and emptied them onto his partner's back. I also took a number of potions, and opened all of them to sprinkle on Mein.

However, I froze upon seeing her. I had no medical knowledge, but something inside me told me that even with potions

her injuries were past the point of no return.

But…

"Tsk! I still have to try!" I thought to myself, pouring until my last potion over her wounds. While I knew that potions were most effective when someone drank them, smearing them also had certain beneficial effects, and right now it was the only thing I could do.

The door was briefly knocked on by someone who was unaware of what was going on in here.

"Spear hero-sama, I see you have returned. You…"

"Princess Malty is seriously injured, call a doctor soon!"

Leaving aside any formality, I looked for the fastest solution, which in this case was to turn to an expert. The servant in question reacted to the name of the kingdom's first princess and opened the door only to witness her injuries.

The entire castle was already in shock just five minutes after my arrival.

I delivered my best potions and items the doctors might need before they sent me off site to focus on their work. The priority of the medics was of course the Princess of Melromarc, and yet they were also treating my other companion who had been injured protecting me.

At times like this, where I could only hope, was when I feel more helpless. I hadn't remembered this feeling for a long time, in fact, not since I was summoned here as a hero.

With two of my companions being treated, Elena was still in that forest, probably still being pursued.

The cooldown time of my teleportation spear was such that I couldn't use it lightly, with the wait between uses being an hour. I don't think I made a mistake using it at the time, but knowing that I had to use it again as soon as possible made that time feel even longer.

It is fortunate that I had marked that same place as a teleportation point, because now it would help me to find her quickly.

I just hoped I could get there on time ...

"Tch, it's still missing."

It had about twenty minutes left to cool down.

In order to calm down a bit and not get anxious about the wait, I decided to go to the dining room to eat something while the priests and doctors did their work. Optimizing my schedules was important, because once I went looking for Elena, I would have to defend her for another hour until my spear regained its teleportation function again.

I may even bring her something to eat too.

But suddenly I felt an uproar. But not one caused by an event that was reported by word of mouth, nor as an attack that caused the mobilization of people who fled and came. It was more like something was going through parts of the castle, shocking anyone nearby.

And what was weirder, it felt like it was getting closer.

I forgot my food while I felt like that "something" was approaching, until he opened the doors of the dining room, and entered with firm steps. He was the king of Melromarc and father of Mein.

Part of my sigh of relief and it relaxed, but another part of me was still alert, as my instincts told me that I might find myself in danger right now.

"King-sama, it was you. Is something wrong?"

"You… what do you think you're doing?"

"Me? Well, I was waiting for my portal spear to be used again to go after Elena, so I decided to recharge my batteries a bit, and… King-sama?"

"Ithek… .. tempest…" The king seemed to be muttering something, but he couldn't understand what he was trying to say.

"Eh, what is he saying?" Ask reflexively. However, I should have paid less attention to his words and more to the behavior of the people who were nearby. They had all fled.

"Infernal Tempest Dreifatch!"

The king's decorative staff lit up for a moment before a veritable storm came out of it, blowing up the chairs, tables, and objects above them.

By pure reflex I reacted to the glow of the staff in time and exchanged my spear for one that has good absorption of magic damage. Fortunately the last wave boss had allowed me to unlock such a spear, and my practice with it had made me gain a good compatibility, which made it stronger.

And even so…

"Aaaaaahhhhhhhh !?"

My defenses weren't good enough and I ended up rolling on the ground like nothing. Had it not been for the new spear, its upgrade, and my upgrade, plus the extra leveling, I might not have been able to withstand that attack.

But the king's expression was not that of someone who was satisfied, but even more irritated.

"It can't be, you even have a good defense, you damn spear!"

"Huh? Wait, what are you doing?"

"It's your fault! I, the King of Melromarc orders you, reveal the truth about the world to this impostor who pretends to be a hero and destroy him using flames that make him burn to no trace. Ignis inferno Dreifatch! "

Again the cane lit up. Given my experience adventuring with Mein, I knew that this was going to be a magical fire attack, but at a level I had never seen before.

However, the staff could not resist and exploded, releasing magic everywhere instead of channeling it in one direction. I could still feel the damage from the attack, so again, I luckily survived an attack that had been launched with the intention of killing me.

The king was unaffected by his magic, and only stared at his destroyed staff with an indignant look. That staff was engraved with gold and jewels, so it had more decorative than offensive functions. I could understand that since in RPG games the best weapons are not made of gold and jewels, but of mithril, orichalcum or adamantite, depending on the culture in which the world created for the game is based. Perhaps that staff had reached its limit from the use of too powerful magic.

But the king was not satisfied, and ordered one of his guards to bring him another staff quickly. I understood that if there was a moment to act, this was it. Not by attacking him, as he was both the king and the father of Mein, but trying to reach out to him and calm him down.

"King-sama, stop! I don't know what happened to make him like this, but if you don't calm down then nothing will be resolved."

"Shut your mouth, you damn demon!"

Calling me demon, impostor ... and I had mentioned my defense as good, although I had not really managed to defend myself well, perhaps, did this have to do with Naofumi in some way?

"Does this have something to do with Naofumi?"

"… Ah?" The king seemed to stop after what I said, so I took it as confirmation and went on with my theory, trying to defend myself from the accusation, whatever it was.

"I don't know what he heard or what he thinks of me, but I can guarantee you that I am not working together with Naofumi, nor is he my ally, friend or partner in any way. That disgusting rapist and I would never get along. fine. And if you don't trust me then I trusted your daughter! Mein will tell you what kind of hero I… "

"My daughter is dead!"

"… I am and… What?"

"She didn't survive the treatment. I was informed when I got to the hospital, but I didn't see you there."

"M-Mein… died…"

"When I asked where you were, they told me that you had gone down to the dining room to get ready before going for your last partner. I really didn't want to believe that you would do something so insensitive, but I had to confirm it… and I did."

"I…"

Malty is dead. Mein died. That fact echoed in my head over and over again until I realized something else in my field of vision. Something that because of my hero status only I could see.

The portal spear had finished its cooldown and could be used again.

"The shield turned out to be even worse than I had imagined, and now the spear I trusted turns out to be a failure too. Killing three innocent heroes because of a failed one was definitely an injustice, but sacrificing two immature heroes to get rid of two failed heroes doesn't sound too bad. And it's definitely better than waiting for a third hero to fail. " The king declared, holding a staff that a guard handed him.

The staff wasn't as flashy as the previous one, but that one definitely didn't look brittle. It would at least last twice as long as the previous one.

I understood that if I didn't take advantage of the long time between spells to run away, he will end up killing me sooner or later. I would be able to go back and explain the situation together with Elena later, but for now I needed to cool my head, and give the king time to do the same.

"Portal spear!"

I selected the makeshift camp I'd set up as my arrival point and activated the teleport effect. Perhaps he understood that my escape would not give him time to cast a spell, so he lowered his staff. However, even so, he said other words. Words full of weight and hostility.

"No matter where you go, I swear by name that you will never have a day of peace for the rest of your life."

The teleportation ended an instant after hearing his words.

And with this, ends the first chapter of "Despair of the Spear", a pun in the words I couldn't put in the original name without it getting too long to be easy to remember. The next chapter will be put when I finish to translate it, probably within this month, but I can't be sure. Just check it out later.

So, see you later!
