Chapter 1
"The Jedi apprentice still lives. Perhaps you have betrayed me. Do not make me turn my fleet against you," the voice of Emperor Palpatine thunders inside Kylo Ren's mind.
He stands in an empty hallway of his Star Destroyer, still fuming over the arrival of the Millennium Falcon. Oh how he hates this ship. It took Rey away from him yet again. Kylo closes his eyes and thinks back to how Rey stood before him. Her lips were parted and her eyes had widened when he removed his helmet for her. Only for her. Kylo didn't care about the Stormtroopers seeing his face. All he wanted was for Rey to join him, to take on the Emperor, her grandfather, together. But that blasted ship had shown up and she left.
Kylo could feel her reluctance to leave him. She would have stayed. She would have joined him. But she still thinks she can save him from the darkness when she battles with it herself. Reaching out through their bond, Kylo breathes deeply in and out as he searches for her. He can feel her Force signature with their special bond and smiles to himself.
"I know where she's going. She'll never be a Jedi," he replies, his voice warped by the helmet.
"Make sure of it. Kill her," Palpatine hisses before leaving Kylo's mind.
The Supreme Leader shudders to himself and turns to walk out of the hallway. He moves quickly through the ship until he reaches the hangar bay. His TIE Silencer sits at the ready among the dozens of other First Order ships. Kylo leaps up and jumps inside the ship. He begins the startup sequence and quickly takes off. There is no need to bring any troops with him or his Knights of Ren. He just wants it to be alone with her, just her.
As soon as he is clear of the Star Destroyer, Kylo reaches out again through the bond. Careful not to make her aware of his presence, he senses her Force signature once again. He quickly jumps to hyperspace and lets her lead the way.
