Chapter 1

One month had passed since the Royal Cotillion, the event that had ultimately changed the path of Mal's life.

Following on from Uma's unexpected arrival, aboard the yacht, Mal had come to the conclusion that the controlled life of a Royal Court member was not for her. She wanted to regain control of her life and chose her own path to follow.

Her past on the Isle was something she never wanted to forget, it was a huge part of who she was and created the girl she is today. It was the Auradon molded Mal, the pretty princess, she was turning into being guided by her ex-boyfriend King Ben that she realised it had to stop.

Mal decided to officially break up with Ben the week after the Cotillion. She would never regret the time she spent with him, she'd cherish many of the memories and experiences he's given her. Thankfully Ben had taken it well, especially when she opened up about hating the way she felt she no longer had control of her life, choices or appearance.

Evie, Jay and Carlos, her closest friends, noticed a huge difference in their purple haired friend following her break up with the prince. It was her change of style, going back to the leather styles she'd worn on the Isle, that tipped the boys off. However Evie noticed that the weight of the world no longer appeared to be on her best friend's shoulders. The mischievous glint returning to her green eyes was also a welcome relief to Evie, she's been under far too much stress for the last couple of months.

After the conversation between King Ben and Mal, he broke the news to the press while throwing himself deeper into his royal duties. Those closest to him assumed it was so he could spend more time focussing on school work when the new year commenced, none were ready for the announcement he made.

At the start of the third week Ben announced that two further children would be joining the school from the Isle. The four current VK's were shocked at who had been invited, especially when recent events were taken into consideration.

Gil, son of Gaston and Harry Hook, son of Captain Hook would be arriving from the Isle.

One month on from the Cotillion, as night fell across the campus, Mal was lying in her bed staring at the ceiling of the dorm room she shared with Evie. Ben's announcement and the fact that Harry and Gil were arriving the next morning was the cause of her lack of sleep. Her brain was trying to process all the possibilities for the upcoming arrival.

Gil, while he'd been a founding member of Uma's pirate crew, was always on the fringes of whatever mayhem the crew were causing. Mal was hopeful that this opportunity would help boost his confidence and let him make his own decisions for the life he wanted.

Harry was the worrying element, with his wild tendencies and a strong loyalty towards his Captain. Mal had known him since her childhood, they'd been surprisingly good friends until the infamous 'Shrimpy' incident happened. At one point the purple haired girl had wondered if they would be able to be more than friends with Harry but unfortunately their paths had drifted apart until she'd reappeared in Curl Up & Dye just a few months before.

In the neighbouring bed, covered with a lovely blue comforter, Evie had long since fallen asleep. When Mal finally drifted off she'd been thinking about how she hoped her old friend was still there under the gruff pirate exterior that Harry paraded so well.

Only the morning would begin to tell.
