"What have I done?" Randy whispered.
He crawled over to Blanche who was on her back on the floor. Her blonde hair was sprawled around her face. It almost looked like art. Her soft blue eyes were staring straight up. He leaned over her, trying to capture her eyes, but she was looking right through him. He leaned down and placed a kiss on her pink lips. They were still warm. Soon they would turn blue and cold.
"I'm sorry, darling," he said.
He was sorry that it had come to this. He never wanted to lose her to begin with. She left him. He couldn't move on. Enough time passed and he was no longer going to accept it. He sought her out in her parents' home. He figured they could talk. He could make her see things his way. He could make her come back.
He was wrong.
He stood up and took a look around. This house had been so full of life and laughter when he showed up. Blanche, her parents and her two brothers were all here. They were still here but there was no more laughter. There was no more life.
Only silence. Only death.
He walked through the house, opened the front door and stepped outside. He looked towards the neighbors who were out in their front yard. Their faces changed. They looked scared. They ran inside and slammed the door.
He looked down and saw that he still had the gun in his hand, and his clothes was covered in blood. They had seen it. Without a doubt they were already on the phone with the cops. One day he would be caught but today wouldn't be that day. Not if he had his way. He lifted the gun and looked at it. It still had bullets left.
"Well, old friend, seems like we still have a job to do," he sighed. "God damn it, Blanche! This is all your fucking fault! You just had to go and make everything so difficult, you selfish bitch!"
He walked towards the house next door. One way or another he would make his way inside and deal with the witnesses before anyone showed up to take him away. If he had to, he would go down in a rain of bullets. Rather death than prison, but he would do his hardest to live another day.
Hell wasn't ready for him yet.
