It couldn't end like that! Couldn't. It just couldn't! No. No, Detective! Chloe... NO!
Damn God and his Allmighty all-too-wise plan if that meant more losses, more pain, and more deaths. She couldn't die. Not her! Chloe deserved to live!
He didn't want their plan to release like that. He just didn't. Lucifer was struggling with his flying up to the skies, up to the heavens, and up to her. He was chasing the spark of her soul visible to him in the eternal darkness of the Universe. Like the only star that could lead him home. Chloe was there somewhere, now, inhaling the aromas of the flowers of Edem, seeing all the wonders he somehow hoped to show to her one day but just couldn't. She was there and she was happy.
Lucifer squeezed his eyes trying to keep his tears at bay. Life on the Earth made him emotional. It made him alive. Did it make him...a human? He didn't like that feeling anymore. Every time he closed his eyes, struggling with the space wind, he saw her beautiful eyes turned to him, he could hear her voice telling him it wasn't his fault, it would never be his fault because she made her choice and she loved him.
Lucifer felt as if he was the worst human, the worst angel, and the worst devil. He didn't deserve her. Not her. She was perfect. She was beautiful, strong and passionate about everything she did. She cared about him, his most precious star. She was more beautiful than the Moon itself. And he hadn't had the chance to tell her... He even didn't have the opportunity...
His tears, the tears of a desperate and terribly hurt human, fell from the sky to create some more stars. Lucifer didn't care about his most beloved creations. He flapped his wings to fly higher.
He could still feel her body, her bleeding and trembling body lying helplessly in his arms. He could feel her breath upon his cheek. He could sense her smell: lavender and honey, sweet and delicate like she was to him. His heart squizzed painfully inside his chest. Lucifer couldn't let her go! He would find her, chase her like the stardust, he would catch her into his arms again to never let her fall. And he would show her all the wonders of Heaven and Earth if only she could... If only she could forgive him for failing her.
And he would find Dan. Trixie should have her father back. And Lucifer should get his...friend...back.
He didn't care about Allmighty's plans anymore. He missed the woman he loved.
Lucifer froze at his place: he loved her! Could the devil fall in love? What did he know about love? For who could ever love the devil?
Yes, you are the Devil, Lucifer, but you are also an angel.
The voice of Chloe rang in his ears again bringing those words from his memory to his reality. She made him realize all the universal truths: everyone could make mistakes, everyone could fall, and everyone could get up again. As long as there was hope. It was Chloe, not Linda, Lucifer realized, who made him accept himself. Who made him human.
His star. His gift. His hope.
He didn't care that he might burn to ashes when he crossed the proverbial gates of Heaven, for there was always the spark, even under the ashes.
Lucifer followed her call to the very doorstep of his former home he dreamt to return to for so many eons that he lost count. He wanted to show her all the wonders of Edem, he wanted to meet her father...
Chloe was anxiously waiting for him at the very gates:
"Lucifer!"
"Detective! I... I thought that I might find you with your father...I wanted to...Chloe, I need to tell you..."
"Shhh, it's ok. I knew you would come. I couldn't go to my father. I couldn't leave you alone there!".
With those words, Chloe opened her palm and gave him that key, that was still in her hand.
"I don't want eternity without you, Lucifer. You are annoying, stubborn, immature, doubting, amazing, caring, and wonderful man! And I love you and always will!"
Lucifer was too stunned by her words to react properly, so he just spread his wings and took her hand instead. She threw herself into his arms.
"I love you. I love you, Detective, I love you, Chloe!" he managed to stutter chokingly, burying his face into her hair.
"Let's go back, Lucifer. Let's go home."
The End.
