Nikki was nervous as she waited to hear word at her headquarters after several months of campaigning. She didn't know what the results were but she knew that whatever happens, she has no regrets in doing this.

Don had called to check in on her from time to time during the campaign to see how she was doing, as she had some pretty tough opponents, not just her old partner but a former college professor who tried to use anything she could find in Nikki's record to try to discredit her but it quickly fell apart when it was found she had been involved with a hit and run, which seriously injured two people and had to drop out and face some charges.

After what she and Don had gone through close to a year ago, it made them closer and she also grew closer to Robin and Amita, as they bonded over healing from the experience and used it to help each other out. She had come to see them as a source of her strength amid the election, though she also found the campaign to be thrilling as well.

The race is still neck and neck and she was glad that Ian was there to give her moral support and she loved the man for it. She was just glad that her old friends were able to support her and that Gary Walker and other LAPD officers supported her quietly during the campaign, which she was grateful for.

Charlie was thrilled to help out in any way he could and determine the best strategies for Nikki to use to increase her chances, which amused her greatly but she appreciated the help from the younger Eppes.

She also remembered Romero's help with the campaign, with the advice on what to do and what to avoid doing during a campaign. She knew that the man was busy with his own job and working things out with his ex-wife, who has been sober since she left rehab six months ago and rebuilding her relationship with her daughter. Nikki was just glad that something good came out of that whole ordeal.

"Ma'am, they are getting ready to declare the winner." One of her staffers told her, pulling her out of her musings.

"Thank you." Nikki said as she saw Don with the rest of the team, Alan, Robin, Amita, and Charlie there, all eagerly awaiting the news.

"Thanks for coming guys." Nikki said, as she hugged them each, grateful for their support.

The news got better for her when she saw the confirmation to the news that she never thought she would hear.

She won, earning 10,000 more votes than her opponents and the opposition would be conceding soon.

"Congrats, Councilwoman Nikki Betancourt." Alan said with similar congratulations from the others.

"Thanks to all of your support." Nikki said to her friends as she prepared for her victory speech, happy to have gotten through it.

She turned to her assistant, saying "I am ready."
