One early morning, Henry was waiting at Brendam Docks to take the Flying Kipper. The fishing boat from the Mainland was late, and Henry was starting to get impatient.
Henry: I'm not going to have time to rest before my morning passenger train if I'm late!
Driver: We'll make up for lost time when we finally go. Besides, the Fat Controller will understand that this delay wasn't your fault.
Soon, the boat arrived. The men hustled and shouted, quickly loading the vans. The last door banged, and the guard shined his green lamp.
Driver: Ready to make up lost time, Henry?
Henry: Ready! (whistles, puffs away)
Henry went as fast as his wheels and driver would let him, but the sun was already rising as he finished his train. Henry thought he'd have more time to rest if he just went to Knapford and waited in the yard till it was time for his train.
Henry: (yawning as he closes his eyes) I guess it's nice to be up and about when it's the start day and there's no one else around.
But Henry wasn't alone for long.
(Percy whistles loudly)
Henry: (opens his eyes) Ahhh! What was that?!
Percy: (chuckles) Wake up, lazy bones! Your coaches are at the platform! (laughs, puffs away)
Henry: (growls) That Percy needs to be put in his place! (whistles, puffs away)
Henry puffed to the platform and backed onto his coaches.
Henry: What the? Why is my train made up of different looking coaches?
Percy: (snickering, puffs up beside Henry) I thought I'd make your train stand out a little. What do you think?
Henry: (scoffs) I should've known it was you, Percy. First you disturb my rest and now you arrange my coaches incorrectly.
STH: (walking out of his office) Percy! You should know better than to arrange a train with different coaches. (groans) There isn't any time for you to swap them out either. Just get back to shunting in the yard.
Percy: (sighs) Yes, sir. (puffs away)
STH: As for you, Henry, I heard about the delays with the Flying Kipper, and you are not to blame for the delays at all. The boat from the Mainland had difficulties starting up.
Henry: Thank you, sir. (whistles, puffs away)
Thomas and Friends: Adventures of Percy
Percy has worked on the Island of Sodor for many years, and wouldn't want to work anywhere else. He shunts in the Knapford yards, but sometimes will pull trains too. He also likes to pull pranks on the bigger engines, but sometimes they can get him into trouble. One morning, he was in a very cheeky mood, and decided to play a prank on Gordon. Gordon was resting in a siding in the yard.
Percy: (whistles) Hurry up, Gordon! The express is ready.
Gordon: (gasps) Oh, my! (rushes forward, bumps hard into some coal trucks) Filthy coal trucks?! (Percy laughs and races off, Gordon groans)
That evening, it was James' turn to be pranked.
Percy: James, the Fat Controller told me to tell you that tomorrow, you must stay in the sheds, because he needs to talk to you.
James: (confused) Ok. Thanks, Percy.
Edward: Are you sure this isn't another one of Percy's pranks, James?
James: Nonsense, Edward! The Fat Controller knows I'm a fine engine. He probably wants me to pull a special train. (Gordon and Henry look at each other then roll their eyes)
The next morning, James' Driver and Fireman couldn't make him move. Gordon and Henry were very annoyed. They had to do James' work as well as their own. At last, an Inspector came to the sheds.
Inspector: Show a wheel, James! You can't stay here all day.
James: Percy told me the Fat Controller wants me to stay here, because he wants to talk to me.
Inspector: He does not. Why would he? He's away on the Mainland for the day.
James: (gasps, angrily) Edward was right! Where's Percy?!
Percy had wisely wisely disappeared. That evening, the Fat Controller came to the sheds to see James. He was very cross.
STH: James, I'm very disappointed in you. Sitting in the sheds doing no work, while Gordon and Henry do all of yours and their work.
James: But it wasn't my fault, sir! Percy told me that you wanted to speak with me at the sheds! (Percy gasps)
STH: (groans, turns to Percy) I should've known this was another one of your tricks, Percy. You've been very troublesome lately with these pranks, which is very concerning to me. You will shunt in the yard until I can trust you to be really useful again.
Percy: (sighs sadly) Yes, sir.
The Fat Controller left, while Gordon snickered.
Hello everyone and thanks for reading the prologue to Adventures of Percy! I'm very excited to do this book and the next book. All the stories in Percy the Small Engine are very nostalgic to me, so adapting them will be a lot of fun. This prologue was something I knew I wanted to do even before finishing Adventures of Gordon. Percy gets to prank all three of the big engines, and that shows how much trouble they can cause for the Percy and the others. Something else I knew I wanted to do was make it where James doesn't get told off for Percy's prank(There's a book that adapts the stories of Percy and the Signal and Percy's Promise read by Mark Moraghan that does that). As for TVS elements, well the scene with Henry had some elements taken from Thomas, Percy and the Post Train, but as of right now, I haven't come up with any other elements I could use. Something I don't want to do is make the TVS elements feel shoehorned into these stories, I want them to either fit the context of the story(Gordon and the Gremlins), or help tell the story better(Edward, Trevor and Really Useful Party). I also don't want to drag the stories on for too long either. With all of that said though, thank you all for reading, and I will see you all in Chapter 1.
