Prologue

October 31, 1981

The Potter Cottage was unaware of the danger coming to them on this peaceful Halloween night and the disappearance of the once happy and joyous family. Lily and James Potter were enjoying their evening together now that their twin children were put to sleep for the night. Suddenly the door burst open from an explosion and James cried out, "Lily, it's him, get the children and run." Lily went up to the children's room while James went to face the one who attacked, Lord Voldemort.

Lord Voldemort spoke as he entered the cottage "James Potter, you are brave yet foolish to stand against me, put down your wand and step aside, I promise to not kill the filth you call your wife. Join me, and your fellow pureblood wizards as we lead the world to the place it should be."

"I will never join you, you monster!" Shouted James, "You and your followers murder hundreds of innocents, including many pureblood families you claim to fight for. Not only that, but you were the cause of my parents' death." With that said, James started turning the object around him into beasts to attack Voldemort, as well as spears and knives that he banished at him.

Voldemort calmly blasted the creatures apart and shielded himself against the weapons before transforming them into a hoard of snakes that he ordered to distract James, and then started sending multiple curses and hexes to disable James. James cast several layers of shield charms and followed it up by conjuring a slab of concrete to stop the spells, and then sent an exploding hex at the concrete followed by a banishing charm to send the pieces at Voldemort and the snakes. While Voldemort was busy shielding against the stone pieces, James sent many borderline dark spells to take Voldemort out.

When Voldemort noticed the incoming curses, he moved out of the way laughing and said, "I did not think you had it in you to use such spells Potter, with your power and ingenuity you will make a powerful follower." Then Voldemort sent a volley of stunning curses from his wand, and while James was distracted, he wandlessly conjured oil where James was standing, which caused him to slip and get hit with the stunning curse knocking him out for a long while.

Voldemort moved on to go up the stairs where the rest of the Potters were waiting. On the way up he decided to spare the mudblood both to favor his follower and to have something to hold over James Potter until he was completely loyal to him. He quickly blasted the door open and hit Lily with a modified coma spell while she was disoriented from the blast. Seeing that she was down, Voldemort headed towards the twins to kill them before they could become a threat.

Unknown to Voldemort, at the same time in a different dimension, a powerful being felt Voldemort's intentions. Azulongmon had been watching the chosen Digidestined since they were born, and when he saw that one of the children was about to die he acted quickly. Using some of his divine energy, he sent a manifestation of himself in front of the children's crib and used Aurora Force to block Voldemort's incoming killing curse, and incinerated Voldemort's form with the powerful lightning attack. The power of the attack blew up the ceiling, causing a piece of electrically charged wood to hit the younger twins' cheek leaving a V-shaped scar. At the same time, part of the attack hit the eldest twin's forehead leaving a lightning bolt-shaped scar there.

Ten minutes later, Sirius Black arrived and upon seeing the destruction of the cottage, went to see if anyone was still alive. As he entered the house, he saw a groggy James Potter starting to get up off the floor. "James!" cried Sirius, "I am glad you are alright, do you know about the others?"

"No!" said James in a panicked voice, "We need to get to the nursery now."

The two quickly headed up the stairs, and let out a cry of despair at the sight of the destroyed room and seeing Lily and the twins lying about unresponsive. They quickly went to check on the three and were relieved that they were still alive, however, while the two children woke up without a problem, nothing they did could awaken Lily. At that moment, an old man named Albus Dumbledore arrived to see if the Potters were still alive.

Albus was relieved to see that the Potters were alive, and went to talk to James to find out what happened. "James, what happened here? I noticed that the wards were breached when I entered my office, did Voldemort come?"

James replied "He did, after a brief duel between us he knocked me out saying that I would make a powerful follower. When I was awakened by Sirius, we rushed upstairs to check on Lily and the boys. Lily won't wake up, and both boys have a mark on them."

"Let me check the boys to make sure there are no lingering effects and to see what happened, then I will check on Lily," said Dumbledore.

James agreed and handed the twins to Albus to be checked over. Albus did a series of checks on the boys and discovered some interesting things. Both boys had residual killing curse energy on them, but only one was hit. Charles Potter, the red hair and hazel-eyed twin, had a V-shaped scar on his cheek and had an above-average magical core. Harry Potter, the eldest with black hair and bright green eyes, had a lightning-bolt-shaped scar on his head and had a lower than average magical core, unknown to Dumbledore, this was due to the combined energies of the severely weakened lightning attack and killing curse combo, causing a lot of Harry's magic being used up to keep him alive. Harry also showed a darker than normal core which caused Dumbledore to worry.

Dumbledore said, "Let me do a few scans on Lily real fast to see what is ailing her, and then I will tell you what I have found." Upon seeing James and Sirius nod in agreement and take the boys, he proceeded to scan Lily and then said, "Lily seems to have an unknown coma curse on her, and I do not know how to cure her at this time. She will have to remain in St. Mungos until a cure is found. Now, the twins both have residual energy of the killing curse on them, but I believe it was Charlus Potter who was hit and survived. He has the first letter of Voldemort's name on him, plus his core is stronger than the average wizards, while Harry's is weaker.

I believe that Charles must have used the twin bond to access Harry's core in a strong fit of accidental magic and drew raw magical energy away from Harry to form a shield that reflected the killing curse."

Seeing the mixture of shock, sadness, and pride on James' face he added, "Unfortunately there is some more bad news regarding young Harry. It seems that some of Voldemort's dark energy entered Harry leaving a taint on him and I do not know how this will affect him."

Upon seeing fear and anger enter James' face he continued saying, "It is imperative that you treat Harry well, and show love to him, while he may be of darker nature as he grows up now, he can still walk the path of the light. I do not doubt that Voldemort will return one day and it is important that Charles is protected and have a good bodyguard he can trust. Instill within Harry a desire to protect his brother against everything and we can use the darkness Voldemort gave Harry against him."

James and Sirius talked to each other silently before agreeing with what Dumbledore planned, and unknowingly setting the path towards the rising of the most powerful wizard since Merlin.

This is my first story, I hope everyone likes it. I got inspired to write this story after reading Guardian of the Digital World by xXZangetsuXx. There might be some similarities between these two stories, but I am going to take this in a different direction than he did. Constructive criticism is welcome, I expect and hope to receive a lot of it so that I can improve my skills.
