AN: Just wanted to try a new fic. I don't know where they originated from but I have one person sending me hate on every chapter of every fic I update. The thing is that since they are doing it anonymously, I can just delete and ignore and not have it on the actual fic making all time they spent on going to the fic and sending hate completely meaningless and giving me the courage to write what I want to write.

Spoiling the Princess

Chapter One

Kuon froze as he thought through the words that the doctor had just told him. He'd been having headaches for a while and had found himself needing to shoot retakes because he had forgotten some of his lines – he personally found that disturbing but didn't want to bring light to that fact. He had thought it might have been some strange flu bug that he didn't understand, that was Kyoko's guess. He had never thought that it would be something of this nature.

Wasn't he supposed to have a family background of it if this was the case? Wasn't he supposed to have more symptoms? He didn't want to think that what the doctor had proposed was actually true. Mr. Hizuri, we're showing signs in your testing of early-onset dementia and we want you to go in for further tests.

Kuon felt his heart tremble at that a little. The tests must be wrong. He had to prove them wrong. He was only twenty-six years old, a man who had only just celebrated his one year wedding anniversary. He was someone who had won an Academy Award in Best Supporting Actor. He was living in America and his wife, Kyoko, often appeared in American movies and starred as a legendary actress in Japanese productions.

Really, from all of the successes, hearing from doctors that he might start to lose himself because of such a strange thing as a dementia diagnosis stung him deeply. He pushed a hand through his blond hair and turned to the doctor again. "How long do you think it'll be before it takes effect?" he asked before paling. "Not that I'm saying that I have any kind of dementia because really…I think it's a wrong diagnosis. Just to say if I had the diag-"

"We can find out more from testing," the doctor told him and Kuon stiffened and nodded slowly. He really didn't want to admit to this.

Kuon nodded. This doctor had worked with many professionals and so he knew that the information would be kept confidential but he didn't want to be a burden on his wife, the woman he loves, Kyoko. "How long would it be to take the effect?"

"It depends on whether you have the condition and what type of illness you have," the doctor said before looking at him. "I would say, Mr. Hizuri, that the illness could take full effect in as little as one year and at most a few decades or maybe it won't progress all the way. We'll try to slow it down but for most of these conditions, there are no cures, only ways in which we can provide you with a better standard of life."

Kuon took another slow breath and nodded. He felt a little overwhelmed as he finished the visitation. One year. If luck went against him then he could be a very different person the following year. He put the information in his bag and zipped it up, attaching a security lock on it that even Kyoko didn't know the code to. He couldn't afford for her to learn this information. He had one year in which he could be the best husband possible and treat her like a princess and then when it got too bad, he would leave. Hopefully even she wouldn't be able to pick up on this illness. He wouldn't tell her. Nobody needed to know.

KyKuKyKu

Kyoko grinned to herself as she heard the garage open and looked to the noodle dish she had been preparing. She had really wanted to make a Japanese-style dish as she would be going overseas to shoot a movie for about two months. Kuon had even said that he'd finish his scenes here and come visit her when he didn't have any jobs of his own. She was a little worried about him. He seemed tired these days and already let it slip that he couldn't remember all of his lines. He had been looking ill this past month and hopefully the doctor would give them some good news.

Kyoko turned down the temperature on the stove and made a squeak of excitement as she heard the keys in the lock. She came to the door and smiled at her gorgeous husband. She adored his golden hair and his emerald eyes which sometimes flashed to a burnt sienna in the right light.

"Kuon!" she said happily as she ran over to hug him. Kuon blinked for a moment or two before wrapping his arms around Kyoko. "I missed you."

"I missed you too," Kuon told her, determined to keep her from the truth.

"Did everything go okay?" Kyoko asked as she tilted her head to the side and saw pain in Kuon's eyes for a moment which made her doubt what was going on. He wasn't going to keep secrets from her, right? She had tried to convince him that she would love him no matter what and she would support him no matter what. "What did the doctor say?"

"Yeah," Kuon laughed, "The flu. You were right. I have the flu."

Kyoko hugged him again, "That's okay, Corn. You can get over the flu easily if you take the right medicine.'

Kuon nodded. He couldn't tell her. He would never be able to tell her that the doctors were suggesting that he had the very early stages of dementia. Knowing Kyoko, she'd try to figure out exactly what that meant and she'd try to make it better for him. He was supposed to protect her and not the other way around.

"So, I made noodles," she grinned and Kuon walked over to her. He kissed her forehead lovingly before kneeling down in front of her.

"You are my precious wife," he said and Kyoko nodded slowly not sure what he was getting at. "I need you to be okay, I'm going to work on being a better husband," he said and Kyoko opened her mouth to protest. "I will be a better husband,," he attempted to assure her.

"I'm going to take you out to dinner this weekend," Kuon told her and Kyoko nodded. Something didn't seem right about him but she didn't know what. All she knew was that this Kuon felt a bit distant. No. She had to give him more credit for this. He didn't like being sick and yet had a doctor give him a check up.

"Thank you, Corn," Kyoko said weakly. Something was wrong with him but she didn't know how to demand the truth out of him and he might lie and attempt to hide the lie. She sighed and wrapped her arms around him again.

"Tell me what's going on," she requested and Kuon shook his head.

"There's nothing going on," he lied. Kyoko looked at him. At this point she didn't know how he was going to do anything he could to make sure she knew how loved he was without being there. She had no idea of his commitment to shield her from the truth. All she knew was Kuon was here and she loved him. Still, there was something not quite right about this.
