Now, this is the rewrite of the prequel of the Red Dead Redemption saga. The idea of rewriting the story of Red Dead Redemption a month ago was inspired by waters22 for his ideas of rewriting storylines of video games and especially GTA San Andreas, Vice City, and Vice City Stories. So go check 'em' out and give him the best support and motivation and he will be appreciated. So now, this is the rewrite of Red Dead Redemption 2. With a few characters, additional dialogue, missions, and character development, so you'll be giving me more support and motivation if you want me not to stop doing this. I'm likely continuing this rewrite as time flies and sometimes put some work for the original RDR game so stay tuned for that too.
Anyway, let's get to it on this rewrite, shall we?
By 1899, the age of outlaws and gunslingers was at an end…
America was becoming a land of laws….
Even the west had mostly been tamed…
A few gangs still roamed but they're being hunted down and destroyed…
It was a stormy blizzard on May at Grizzlies, the Van Der Linde Gang were on wagons with the horses pulling them, pushing forward through this storm. The gang had escaped from Blackwater after a massive shootout between them and the law and Pinkerton agents. The cause of this disaster is due to a failed ferry heist at Blackwater orchestrated by Micah Belle, who spent barely a year in the gang. The casualties of the results are; Mac and Sean were left behind, presumably dead or still alive but also maybe captured, Jenny died during their escape John got shot on the arm but was able to flee with the rest and was told by Dutch that he and Micah should scout somewhere for two days now, Davey got shot on the chest which is fatal since the bullet wound was close to his heart. He was currently being treated by Abigail as she, Davey, and Reverend Swanson were holding up in a wagon controlled by Bill and Javier. Seeing that Davey was losing oxygen, prompted Reverend to hope out of the wagon and walk forwards to Dutch and Hosea who were leading the convoy of the wagons.
"Abigail says he's dying, Dutch," Reverend told him. "We have to stop some place."
"Okay," Dutch replied. "Arthur's out looking, I sent him out ahead."
Reverend nodded and went back to the wagon and Abigail. Hosea was talking with Dutch.
"If we don't stop soon, we'll all be dying," Hosea told him. "This weather it's May. I'm just hoping the law gets lost as we did."
Hosea Matthews was the wise feller of the Van Der Linde Gang, he and Dutch took in Arthur and raised him as their own and also took in John after Arthur, as the years passed, Hosea's strength is to scout a place where it's worth the profit to rob, his masterminds are planning and scamming, despite not resorting to violence, he too also an outlaw along with Dutch. They were now Wanted posters of him and Dutch at Blackwater two days after the Massacre.
Then Dutch sees something in front of them. It must be Arthur, "There!" He added a finger pointing at their direction. "Arthur! Any luck?"
Then the figure emerged from the blizzard revealing a man and his horse. The man is Arthur Morgan, an outlaw and favorite "son" of Dutch, one of the strongest OGs of the Van Der Linde Gang. Arthur was wearing a heavy black winter outfit and so does his gang, he is wearing a black hat which used to belong to his father before Dutch found him after his real father died.
"I found a place where we can get some shelter," Arthur replied. "Let Davey rest while he… you know…" In truth, Arthur doesn't want to admit that another member of their gang was dying but he knew that they might not have any time left to save Davey. He turned his horse around and goes back where he found. "An old mining town, it ain't far. Come on."
"Come on!" Dutch commanded the horses and the convoy and the entire gang followed Arthur behind.
After arriving, Hosea hops out first and holds his gun and lamplight. He opened the door of the Cabin and casually looked around with the help of his lamplight. After finding that no one in this old mining town lived, it was clear to Hosea that they could use this place to hide for now.
"Bring him in here." Hosea ordered.
Abigail enters first alongside her two little Children, Jack and Rachel. Followed by Arthur and Bill holding Davey with a stretcher, most of the other gang members entered the Cabin as Dutch was the last one to enter and shut the door behind him.
"Miss Gaskill, get that fire lit, quick," Susan Grimshaw instructed. "Miss Jones, bring it whatever blankets we have, Mr. Pearson, see what we got good terms of food."
Susan Grimshaw was like a motherly household of the gang, she and Pearson were always turning whatever location they had into a camp. Dutch may be the leader but Grimshaw was just strict as Dutch and she would always act like a strict mother to the gang.
After settling some things down, Abigail placed her hand on Davey's neck, hoping that Davey still breathing but, sadly, Davey didn't make it. He's dead.
"Davey's dead," Abigail informed sadly.
"There was… nothing more you could have done…" Reverend told her sadly.
Abigail placed two pieces of cucumber over Davey's eyes.
"What are we gonna do?" Hosea asked. "We need supplies."
"Well, first of all, you're gonna stay here and get yourselves warm," Dutch told him. "Now, I sent John and Micah scouting up ahead. Arthur and I, we're gonna ride out and see if we can find any of 'em."
Arthur was a bit hesitant that he and the gang were nearly frozen to death because of the storm. "In this?"
Dutch turned to the door that lead outside where the storm still blowing and turned back to Arthur.
"Just for a short bit," Dutch replied. "I don't see what other choice we have." He then turned his attention to the gang. "Listen… listen to me all of you, for a moment."
Then everyone turned their eyes on their leader, hoping whatever comes out of Dutch's mouth could encourage them to keep it together after what had happened two days ago at Blackwater.
"Now," He spoke, "We've had… well, a bad couple of days. I loped Davey… Jenny… Sean, Mac… they may be okay, we don't know. But we've lost some folks. Now, If I could… throw myself in the ground in their stead… I'd do it… gladly. But… we're gonna ride out… and we are gonna find some food. Everybody, we're safe now. There ain't nobody following us through a storm like this one… and by the time they get here… well we're gonna be… we're gonna be long gone. We've been through worst than this before. Mr. Pearson, Mrs. Grimshaw, I need you two to turn this place into a camp. We may be here for a few days. Now all of you… all of you, get yourselves warm. Stay strong. Stay with me! We ain't done yet!" He turned and grabs his lamplight. "Come on, Arthur."
While they went out of the cabin, Susan instructed everyone, "Alright, we've got some work to do."
With the two outside, they were talking on what they're going to do next to feed the gang.
"Well, we ain't run into them yet." Dutch told him. "So they both must have headed down the hill."
"Sure. Hey," He asked. "I ain't had time to ask but what really wend down back there on that boat?"
"We missed you," Dutch answered. "That's what happened. Come on."
During the heist, Arthur and Hosea didn't participate the heist but instead, they run a scam at New Austin, which is close to Blackwater and West Elizabeth. Now that they're scam was expose and their bounties were exposed to New Austin and West Elizabeth, Arthur was also a Wanted man at Blackwater and near any place of that town.
"Hey!" A voice called out revealing another member of the gang, Charles Smith, leading two horses to Arthur and Dutch. "You need horses?"
"Oh yeah," Dutch answered. "And Mr. Smith, get yourself indoors. You need to rest that hand." It's true, during their escape; Charles had injured his hand while they were escaping from the Pinkertons.
Arthur and Dutch mount on their horses and stroll away.
"I'll live," Charles said.
"Get indoors, son!" Dutch told him sternly. "We… need you strong."
Arthur and Dutch move through the snow as Charles went inside the cabin. They are looking for some food and also John and Micah who had been missing for two days.
"Come on," Dutch told him. "Let's go."
"Ain't sure what we're gonna find out here, Dutch." Arthur said.
"We have to try," He told him. "Stay close, we'll do our best to stick to the trail."
"This goddamn weather," Arthur grumbled.
"Been two days or like this now," Dutch said. "Oh, it has to blow over soon."
They come across a frozen river and a bridge.
"Careful on this bridge here," Dutch told him.
The two carefully cross the bridge without getting caught slipped because of the snow and ice.
"Can't believe we lost Davey, too," Arthur said sad that a close friend of his has died.
"He's the last one, Arthur," Dutch replied. "No more. We need to get those people warm and fed."
"Least we don't need to worry about Pinkertons tailing us in this." Arthur said.
"A couple more days," Dutch replied. "we'll be on the other side. You need to help me pick the others back up. You're the only one I can rely on to stay strong right now."
"We got a fire and shelter, that's a start," Arthur told him. "Plus we still need to find some healthy food for Rachel. You know that little girl is a vegetarian unlike her brother, Jack. You know how much Rachel hated meat."
"Yeah, I know, Arthur," Dutch answered. "I know you're doing your best to look out for the kids much as Abigail did, but John, he ain't into fathering. Those two kids were like a gift to Abigail, to John but John pushes them away from him. Once we find John, and then hopefully, just hopefully, he will be responsible in taking care of those kids. Jack and Rachel. But right now, we must focus on what we're doing here exactly."
But Arthur was curious to know what really went down their so he decided to asked.
"Do you really think it was a trap?" Arthur asked. "At Blackwater?"
"That many men? Oh they knew we were coming." Dutch answered. "I stashed on what we took right before we fled. Somewhere where the law can't find but it's somewhere at Blackwater and hopefully they don't manage to find it."
Then they stopped after Dutch saw something coming towards them. They both hold up their lights and hopefully the newcomer is not a Pinkerton agent, or a foe they don't know.
"You up ahead!" Dutch halt him. "Who's there?"
Then the figure emerged from the storms revealing a man holding his light while riding on his horse. The sights of the man made Dutch felt relief after seeing it who was.
"Micah," Dutch spoke.
Micah Belle was the new gang member of the Van Der Linde Gang. He joined the gang 6 months ago, and despite Dutch's full trust in him, the rest don't trust him that much since whenever any of them go robbing with him they always ended up in trouble with the law knew exactly where they're robbing. Especially how he was the one, who orchestrated the hit on the ferry at Blackwater but it, ended a disaster.
"Gentlemen," Micah spoke.
"Found anything?" Dutch asked.
"I think so." Micah answered. "Found a little homestead down thataway."
Dutch nodded. "Okay. Anyone home?"
"Sure. Place is blazing with light and noise." He replied. "Sounded like a party."
"Let's go see," Dutch declared.
"Follow me."
Micah turns his horse around and follows the two the homestead where Micah had found.
"How's Davey doing?"
"Ah, he didn't make it," Dutch replied. "Nor did little Jenny."
"That's too bad." Micah said. "Davey was real fighter. Both of them Callander boys is, or… was…"
"Yeah," Dutch agreed.
You don't even care about everyone here! Arthur Thought. You only cared about yourself!
"And Mac and Sean?" Micah asked again.
"We don't know," Dutch replied.
"Quite a business," Micah claimed.
"I'm glad you're alright, Micah."
"Always," Micah answered.
"Ask him if he's seen John." Arthur told Dutch.
"Hey, have you seen John, Micah?" Dutch asked him, fulfilling Arthur's command.
"Didn't see much of anything once this storm came in," Micah shrugged.
"He'll be fine," Arthur told them. "Things always turn out right for that boy."
"I hope," Dutch added. "Mac and Sean are still out there somewhere too."
"You run into anybody else?" Arthur asked.
"I-I reckon we're the only ones crazy enough to be out in this, Morgan." Micah answered.
"Yeah, well don't talk me about crazy." Arthur told him.
"Oh, so no "Glad you're alright, I was worried, Micah"? Look, it's all gonna work out, Morgan. We lost a few folks, but that's just how it goes sometimes."
"I'm glad you're feeling so good about it,"
They arrived by the edge of the hill and saw the homestead bellow them.
"So, is this house," Arthur asked. "you speak to the people there already?"
"No," Micah answered. "Like Dutch told us… look, but don't talk to no one. Just following orders, you know me?"
I know you, you caused enough trouble for us ever since you been riding with us! Arthur thought. Especially how job at Blackwater went all to shit!
"Right…" Arthur said still feeling uneasy about it.
"So, let's keep it down now," Micah ordered. "It's just up ahead."
"Snuff and stash those lantern, boys." Dutch instruct them. "Best you two lie low on this."
After going down on the hill, the trio stopped at the ledge and dismounts their horses at the hitching post.
"Let's hitch up here," Dutch whispered.
After hitching their horses, they dismount them and walking towards the house.
"Let me do the talking," Dutch told them. "We don't wanna scare these folks."
"Someone's having fun there," Micah claimed.
"You two, get yourself out of sight," He told them again, "One lonely man is a lot less intimidating than three nasty looking degenerates. Arthur, in that cattle shed on the left," He pointed at the cattle shed. "Micah, get down behind that wagon in front."
The two quickly went to their hiding positions as Dutch stepped towards the doorstep and knock on the door.
"Hello?" He asked. "Excuse me? Hello?"
The door opened revealing a man wearing white clothing.
"Oh well, hello friend," Dutch greeted.
"What you want?" The man asked bluntly.
"I am very sorry to disturb you," Dutch apologized. "Uh, my friends and I, well we got into, some, trouble up the way. Lost in the storm."
Then a few more men exit the house and have the same expression as the man who opened first.
"Ah, gentlemen," Dutch greeted them.
"We can't help you, mister," The man told him bluntly.
"I got folks," Dutch replied. "dying on that trail…"
While hiding, Micah sees a corpse inside the wagon. He turned to Arthur and warned him the trouble.
"Arthur," Micah whispered. "Arthur, we got a problem." He lifts up the blanket revealing the corpse inside. "There's a body right here, Arthur… There's a body in the wagon."
"Yeah, I hear you." Arthur replied. "Just… keep your eyes on Dutch."
"Now friend," Dutch continued. "I ain't asking much. Please. I am… kinda desperate."
Then the men started to recognize him, as those men are the rival gang members of the Van Der Linde Gang, The O'Driscolls.
"Hey, I don't believe it!" The man exclaimed. "It's goddamn Dutch Plan Der Linde you moron! Colm is going to shit his pants! Put your hands up!"
Thinking fast, Arthur and Micah pull out their revolvers and pop out of their hiding spots and one shot the O'Driscolls to death. Dutch quickly run behind a pillar and pull out his revolver and one shot the O'Driscoll member who just got out of the back of the house. Once the O'Driscoll members were dealt with, they were gonna search the house for supplies.
"Smells like a party in here," Arthur commented as he searched the cabinets and the drawers.
"Turn the place upside down," Dutch answered. "Grab as many supplies as you can. We need the essentials. Food, medicine and whiskey,"
"I'm starving," Arthur said.
"You should eat something now," Dutch advised. "Get your strength up for the ride back."
After searching the place, he and Arthur leaves the cabin with some supplies with them.
"O'Driscolls!" Dutch growled. "I don't believe it!"
"It's a strange one alright," Arthur told him. "Maybe they're hiding up here too. There's a big price on Colm O'Driscoll's head and nearly as big as the one on yours."
"Wanting Colm dead is about only thing me and Uncle Sam agree on," Dutch replied.
"Place is dry and arm," Arthur observed the place. "we could maybe move Abigail and the kids down here."
"Maybe," Dutch added. "We'll see how they are when we get back. I don't really want us to split up. Now go see if there's anything in that barn." He pointed at the barn at their right. "Micah, you search the cabin, see what we missed."
Micah goes into the camp while Arthur goes into the barn, when he enters he was being tackled by another O'Driscoll member.
"You bastards shot my cousin!" The OD growled at Arthur.
Then they rise on their feet and engage in a fight. After landing a few blows and kicks on the OD member, Arthur tackles him on the ground and punches him on the face. Just then, Dutch sees the commotion.
"What's going on?" Dutch asked.
"This guy just jumped me." Arthur answered, landing another blow on his face.
"Oh, did he now?"
"Sneaky little bastard… should I kill him?"
"No," Dutch told him. "Not yet… Find out what they're doing here, and where Colm is."
"Oh, this son of a bitch'll talk," Then he punched him again. "Where's Colm O'Driscoll?!"
"With the others," The OD member answered him. "at an old mining camp southwest of here, near the lake."
"What are you motherfuckers doing? And why are you here?"
"We're fixing to rob some train gonna blow the tracks. I don't know more than that, I swear!"
Dutch laughed. "Well, I say it looks like you have this, Arthur. Do what you want with him, I don't care. But bring that horse when you're done."
Then Arthur started thinking when the OD member begged him to spare him. After 20 seconds of thinking, Arthur blurted out, "Get the fuck outta here! Go!"
The O'Driscoll member flee while Arthur picks up his hat and takes the horse after calming it down and lead it to Dutch.
"That looks like a decent horse," Dutch described. "You should keep him."
Then a woman was heard screaming in the house.
"Get away from me!" The woman screamed.
Dutch and Arthur rushed back to the cabin and see what the fuss is all about.
"Micah, what the fuck do you think you're doing?!" Dutch asked.
They re enter the house and sees Micah chasing the woman. The woman is wet, cold, wears a light blue dress and its blond hair.
"Oh, look what I found in the cellar." Micah said. "Wild thing ain't you?"
The woman grabs a knife and points it at Micah's direction.
"Leave her alone!" Dutch command him.
"I wasn't doing nothing," Micah protested. "She's one of them O'Driscolls!"
"No, she ain't, Micah. Look at her!" Dutch then spread his arms out as he slowly and casually approached the woman. "Miss, miss, are you-"
But he was interrupted when Micah flips the table and the lantern falls and it started a fire.
"Oh, you motherfucking fool, Micah!" Dutch growled. Micah tries to approach her but was pushed away by Dutch and being held by Arthur and Dutch continues calming down the woman. "Miss, now it is going to be okay. We mean you no harm. Miss! Miss… Come on, it'll be okay."
With Dutch's impressive charisma and charm, the woman calmed down and eased her pain as Dutch escorts her out of the house which the entire place is almost on fire.
"You okay, miss?"
With a bit hesitation, she answered, "They came three days ago," And then she sobbed. "and my husband, they…killed him!"
Dutch saw the pain in the woman's eyes and can't help but feel what it's like to lose a love one. Especially how he lost a woman he dear loved a long time ago, Annabelle, under the hands of Colm O'Driscoll.
"Okay, miss." Dutch told her. "You are safe now… and you can't stay here." And then they see the house is now engulfed by the fire. "You come with us."
After guiding the woman on Dutch's horse and mounting on their horses.
"Miss, it's okay, alright?" Arthur said to her. "We're bad men, but we ain't like them, so it's okay."
So the others began to leave with the woman and the supplies.
"What's your name, Miss?" Dutch asked the woman sitting behind him on his horse.
"Adler," The woman answered. "Sadie Adler. I… He… he was my husband."
Then they quickly get away as the house collapse because of the fire. The dead body Micah had found earlier was indeed Sadie's husband.
They returned to Colter as Lenny Summers guarding the area.
"Hey, somebody's coming!" Lenny alerted but soon calms down when Dutch and the others came back. "Looks like it's Dutch," He turned his attention to the others. "Hey everybody, Dutch is back!"
The gang members gathered around them as they dismount their horses.
"How'd you get on?" Hosea asked.
"Micah found a homestead," Dutch answered. "But… we weren't the first. Colm O'Driscoll and his scum. They beat us to it." Dutch helps Sadie off his horse. "We found some of them there… but there is about apparently… scouting a train."
"That's the last thing we need right now, Dutch," Hosea said.
"Well, it is what it is… but we found some supplies, some blankets and a little bit of food and this poor soul, Mrs. Adler. Miss Tilly, Miss Karen, would warm her up, give her a drink of something and Mrs. Adler, it's gonna be okay… you're safe now." The girls led Sadie to one of the cabins. "They turned her into a widow… animals… I need some rest. I haven't sleep in barely three days."
Susan turned to Dutch. "You're over here… Miss O'Shea will show you the way. And Mr. Morgan, we put you in a room over here." She pointed at the cabins where Arthur can sleep.
"Thank you, Miss Grimshaw," Arthur thanked.
"Mr. Bell," Susan told him. "You're with the fellers over there."
"How come Arthur gets a room and I get a bunk bed next to Bill Williamson and a bunch of darkies?" Micah complained.
"Get yourself to bed!" Susan ordered him sternly.
Without thinking, Arthur went to his own cabin where he can sleep. He and the gang didn't get much sleep ever since they've been fleeing from Blackwater after the robbery went wrong and followed by a shootout. Now that most of the gang was wanted there, Arthur will never go back to Blackwater and show his face there again. So then, he removed his boots, his hat and lay back on a bed and drifted to sleep.
