It was a bright and sunny day. The delivery stork was pleased with this, as it was a perfect opportunity to deliver some babies to their parents. After he left the hospital after the babies were born, he soared through the skies, holding a bag with his beak, having two babies inside. It seemed like it was going to be an ordinary day…at first.
Suddenly a cloud, among many, started to get angry for unknown reasons. Its snow-white color scheme darkened, making him a darker gray. The eyes on its face also changed, making the cloud look mad as opposed to looking laid-back. All the other clouds, one by one, also shared this distinction, and rain started to fall.
The stork's eyes widened. What the heck is going on?! He thought to himself (primarily because storks cannot speak). He was unsure of what his next move would be…until a crack of lightning boomed behind him.
Yikes! Time to go! The stork thought as he flew away.
To make matters worse, the stork could hear the frightened cries of the babies inside of the bag. But the stork hadn't any time to deal with the babies; he needed to avoid the thunderclouds, which he hardly managed to do, anyways.
Eventually, he thought he was safe from the lightning bolts, and breathed a squawk of relief.
But the biggest thundercloud had something in store for him. He charged up the most powerful bolt of lightning, even glowing yellow in the process.
The stork was too shocked to do anything. But then his terrified, anguished face melted into a sad and resigned expression. He opened his beak, which caused him to let go of the bag, meaning the stork was going to sacrifice himself to save the two babies. He outstretched his flapping wings and closed his eyes. It's for the best. I hope their parents do a better job at taking care of them than I did, the stork thought as a single tear oozed from his eye…
…and that was his last thought before being vaporized by the thunderbolt.
Abruptly, the clouds calmed down, and the skies cleared up, reverting to its iconic blue color. At last, all was well…but at what cost? The delivery stork had perished, surrendering his own life to save the babies' lives. But while we are on the subject of the babies…where are they now? And what has become of them?
Well, that, my beloved readers, is where our story begins.
