Disclaimer: I do not own Sailor Moon, and I never will unfortunately.
Summary: Seiya wasn't the only one who felt a connection that day at the airport as they walked past each other, Usagi did too, and it changed everything. Another take on how the Sailor Stars season could have gone if Usagi wasn't so blind to Seiya's feelings.
Author's Note: Hello all! This is my first forte in the world of Sailor Moon fanfiction! I recently rewatched the show and finally was able to watch the entirety of the Sailor Stars season since it finally got fandubbed in English and as much as I stubbornly didn't want to, as an avid Mamoru and Usagi fan, I fell in love with the pair of Seiya/Usagi. They had so many cute moments together that it made my heart flutter and made me wish that Usagi had returned his feelings. It was clear as day to me that he was in love with her and he fell in love with her as just Usagi. Not that Mamoru didn't, but now after rewatching the show, who even knows if they would have ever ended up together if they didn't already have this past bond between them as Serenity and Endymion. Don't get me wrong I still love them together and I always will, but I'm starting to ship Seiya/Usagi more and more. Their relationship made S5 for me. But onto the story, thought it would be interesting to do a story where Usagi felt a connection to Seiya as he did with her, the day they passed each other at the airport when Usagi was seeing Mamoru and what would happen during the season because of that. That said, this story will follow the events of the season, but with a Usagi/Seiya twist. I also have a few other stories in mind for them but decided to go with this one first, so I hope you like it!
PS. Though I have been an avid Sailor Moon since I was a little kid and think I have a full grasp on their personalities, please let me know if they are out of character because I want to do the characters justice. Definitely let me know too if Seiya's out of character because I've just recently got introduced to the character.
Oh and this chapter is based on episode 173, Farewells and Encounters: The Transitioning Stars of Destiny. Each chapter will be based on the episodes. I'm not doing all of them just specific Usagi and Seiya episodes that I love and want to add twists to them.
This was it.
The day Mamoru was to set off for America to continue his education and his studies.
It was a day Usagi had been dreading ever since she found out about it, just a few weeks prior. She had recently informed her best friends, Minako, Rei, Ami, about Makoto about the development, getting all kinds of sympathies from the girls she considered sisters. It was much appreciated, but hadn't worked at all. Usagi was still upset, and rightfully so, things had just started to get back to normal after what happened with Nehellenia, and now Mamoru was leaving.
Leaving her.
She had already seen one of her loved ones leave, and she hated having to say goodbye to another.
Usagi knew if she asked Mamoru to stay he would gladly do so, but that would have been extremely selfish, asking him this just so she wouldn't be alone.
So, she decided that she would see him off with a smile, as painful as it was to do so.
Usagi held back the tears as she waited in the hallway of the airport, wanting for Mamoru to appear before her.
People bustled around her, trying to get to their specific gates, or to their loved ones. They were all just a blur to her as she was focused on keeping an eye out for her beloved. She didn't have to wait for long, spotting Mamoru's bright green jacket and the blue eyes that automatically caught hers.
She blinked back tears, bringing out the brightest smile she could muster towards. "Mamo!" she greeted with as much cheerfulness as she could.
Mamoru gave her that smile, which always sent her heart into flutters. "Usako. I thought you weren't coming today because of school."
"I'll be waiting for you!" Usagi blurted out, her hands cupping together as she placed them on her chest. He needed to know. That no matter what, no matter when he came back, there was never going to be anyone else that made her feel the way he made her feel, and that she would be here. Waiting.
Mamoru gave Usagi a soft look as he nodded at her. There was silence between them while they stared into each other's eyes until he broke it. "At first, I'll be so busy that I won't be able to contact you a lot."
She shook her head with a small smile. "That's all right…! I'll write you every day! So…I…" Unable to help it now, the thoughts of Mamoru leaving filling her head. Tears flowed freely down her face. She didn't bother stopping them as she quickly glanced down at her feet after seeing the sympathetic and sad look on Mamoru's face. This wasn't what she wanted to happen!
She was supposed to be sending him off with a smile! She promised herself that she would, and here she was, crying like the cry baby she was.
Usagi finally lifted her head back up but still let her tears flow, meeting Mamoru's gaze again. "I'm sorry." She whispered. "I planned on sending you off with a smile and now look at me." She sniffled as she lifted her hands up to finally wipe away her tears.
"Usagi…" Mamoru said softly, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a black box. He held it out, making her blink down at it. "Here." The blonde slowly grabbed it and examined it before looking up at him to see him smiling at her, giving a nod. "Open it."
So, she did, her eyes widening at what was inside. It was a beautiful ring and what looked to be an expensive one, but that didn't matter to her. Not all.
"Mamo…" Usagi breathed.
A soft look was on Mamoru's face as he took the box back from her to take the ring out of it. He stepped closer to her and took her right hand, sliding the beautiful jewelry on her ring finger.
Usagi's heart skipped a beat as he gave that smile.
"I love you, Usako."
Usagi smiled at him brightly, tears all gone now, but her eyes teared up again, however not in sadness this time.
She stood up on her tiptoes and he leaned down until their lips met in a soft, loving kiss. Usagi sighed into it. She was going to miss his kisses.
The kiss didn't last as long as she wanted it to go. It was enough though.
Mamoru parted from her lips. "I've got to go."
"Okay." Of course, after a kiss like that, Usagi wasn't going to let him go to his gate without her. She giggled, feeling a lot lighter now as she grabbed onto his arm while they turned to leave.
They stopped in place though at the sound of screaming coming in the direction of the nearby escalator. There was massive group of people, mostly women, screaming a name that Usagi couldn't really hear, even though it was loud enough.
Usagi peered up at Mamoru, tilting her head to the side curiously. "What's that?"
Her boyfriend shrugged. "Probably just celebrities or something." He looked down at her. "Come on, let's go."
"Okay!" Usagi giggled, holding Mamoru's arm tighter. She let him lead her down the large hall.
She saw a flash of red from her vision and a weird feeling came over her. It nearly made her stop, but instead, she quickly looked behind her to see who she had walked past to make her feel this way.
It was a tall boy, around her age.
And he seemed to be looking at her too, but it was hard to tell with him wearing sunglasses and all.
It still felt like he was staring right into her soul.
Usagi blushed at her thoughts. What the heck was she thinking?! Thinking about some other guy when she had Mamo! Shaking her head, she broke her gaze with him and focused on Mamoru. It didn't matter anyway. She wasn't going to see this guy again anyway!
If only she knew how wrong she was.
Before she knew it, she was standing alone on the rooftop of the airport, staring up at Mamoru's plane up in the sky.
Usagi placed her hands on her heart again. 'I'll be waiting...'
The next afternoon, Usagi sat with her friends at their usual hangout spot after school, admiring the ring Mamoru gave her. She was so excited about it, so of course, she had to show it off to her friends.
Rei leaned forward in her seat, her black bangs falling in her face. She had a teasing smirk on her face.
"You got a ring from Mamoru? Aren't you a lucky girl?" Despite the teasing tone, Rei was very happy for her friend.
"Not only did he give you that, he put it on your left ring finger." Makoto hinted, grinning.
"Wait, is that what I think it means?" Ami looked at her tall friend surprised, blushing at what Makoto was hinting at.
Luna smirked. "Yeah it does."
Usagi looked between her friends, so very confused. "What are you saying?"
"I mean what else could it be."
"What's going on?" Usagi rose her voice a little bit louder, thinking maybe they didn't hear her. What were they talking about? Mamoru just put it on her ring finger, what was the big deal?
"Give me a break! Do you seriously not know, Usagi?" Rei demanded, feeling exasperated with her friend's denseness. She stood up from her seat as she leaned forward towards Usagi, not hiding it. "Just what kind of girl are you?!"
The blonde didn't match Rei's frustration with her own, opting to return it with a dreamy and childish response. "I'm gonna say a very pretty one!"
"Even Luna understands and she's a cat!"
"I'm still a girl, you know?!" Luna exclaimed, applauded.
"Just tell me already!" Rei and Usagi barely noticed Minako coming through the sliding doors, practically jumping in excitement.
"We're saying the ring that Mamoru gave is a…"
Usagi didn't get to finish hearing Rei finish that sentence unfortunately because that was when Minako decided to make her appearance known. Loudly, of course.
"Girls, you're not going to believe this!" she exclaimed excitedly. She pointed enthusiastically outside, Artemis barely hanging onto her shoulder. "Right now, they're filming that show at the park nearby!"
Rei automatically slid up to Minako's side. "What? That show?"
"We have to go!" Rei and Minako both said at the same time.
Usagi chuckled nervously. "What show?"
Of course, they went to the park to see the show filming, which was pretty exciting to Usagi and for everyone really! Who wouldn't want to see a show being filmed in person?
By the time they got there, a large crowd was already watching. It was big enough where they couldn't see anything.
Usagi pouted with disappointment, as did everyone else.
"Oh no, we got here too late!" Minako cried out.
"Why are there so many people?" Usagi wondered, looking at the crowd wide eyed. She knew there was people here to see the show being filmed but she didn't think there would be this many! This looked even bigger than the crowd at the airport when she saw Mamoru off.
Thinking about that moment made Usagi remember that boy she had seen there and the weird feeling she had gotten from him. She brushed that thought off rather quickly, wondering why her mind was going to that. Despite being curious about the feeling she felt, she wasn't going to find out about it because like she said, she wasn't going to see him again. Usagi's thoughts were broken by Minako.
"They're shooting a drama with the Three Lights!" Minako explained, making a pumped up fist.
Makoto gasped. "Oh, you mean the Z Files of Young Holmes, right?"
"I can't believe it's really filming here." Rei said in excitement.
Usagi blinked, never having heard of that show before in her life. "Uh, what is it?"
"It's one of the most watch shows of the season! It has an average rating of more than 35%!" This made all of them give Ami side eyed looks, which the blunette noticed, and she blushed, waving her hands back and forth. "I…I don't know much about it, though…"
"Uh-uh." They all said at the same time, not believing Ami for a second.
Even though they weren't able to see, it didn't stop them from trying as Minako jumped up, managing to look over the heads of the people.
"Oh, this sucks! I can't see!" the blonde wailed, still bouncing. She managed to see again, letting out a screech of excitement. "
Usagi hopped up and down as well, hearing Minako's scream. "What is it?!"
"That's Alice Itsuki over there! Oh my gosh, I'm such a huge fan of hers!"
Makoto and Rei managed to see too, by following their friend's lead, and they spotted the actress too, getting star struck immediately.
"Wow! She's cute!" Makoto cried in awe.
"She's got an adorable face!" Rei agreed.
"Aah! It's Taiki and Yaten!" Minako yelped.
Makoto and Rei saw them too and squealed with joy.
Usagi spotted them when she jumped again, and she could appreciate their attractiveness. "Wow, they're hot!"
"Darn straight!"
The jumping was getting rather tiresome, so they ended up stopping.
Minako's eyes narrowed at the crowd. "We can't see a thing behind all of these people! Girls we're moving in!"
Rei, Usagi, Makoto, and Rei all nodded in agreement. "Got it!"
While her friends managed to get through the crowd, Usagi hadn't been able to so she decided to give up and was now walking down the sidewalk with Luna on her shoulder. As she walked, the crowd seemed to never go away.
"Wow, this crowd seems never ending." Usagi frowned.
"They must be really that popular!" Luna said.
"Yeah…" Usagi sighed a pout. "I wish I were able to see them on location. This really sucks." Another sigh left her lips as she turned her head, spotting a sign up ahead, and there were trailers right behind there too.
The sign read, 'Authorized Personnel Only.'
Luna noticed it too. "I wonder if that could be the rest area for the film crew."
Usagi giggled evilly, a plan cooking up in her head. "If I happened to wander back there, maybe I'd run into someone famous!" She giggled again, but this time, it was a dreamy one. "I'd be the luckiest girl in the world!"
She started sneaking in that direction, but didn't get very far as she stiffened when she heard a voice coming from the bench she was nearby. She hadn't realized someone was there obviously.
"Hey! Don't you know this is a restricted area!"
Automatically, Usagi turned to apologize quickly but her eyes were closed as she rubbed the back of her head sheepishly. "I'm sorry! It was an accident! Well, that's not really true… all I wanted was to see Alice and everyone else from close up. I'm really sorry!"
"Oh, you're that girl from before."
Usagi opened her eyes and was met with a surprise. It was the guy at the airport! He was wearing different clothes and didn't have any sunglasses on, but it was him. Usagi was rather taken aback that he actually remembered her. It surprisingly left a warm feeling in her stomach. She brushed it off as still being embarrassed at being caught.
"Er yeah, at the airport." Usagi said, ignoring the look that Luna gave her.
"So, you remember me?" The guy gave her a smirk. It irritated her a bit.
Usagi looked away from him. "Don't get a big head about it." She huffed. "I remember seeing you there, but I don't know who you are." When she turned to look at him, he stared at her unblinkingly. "What?"
"You…don't recognize me." He finally said, surprised.
She shook her head. "Uh, should I?" she questioned.
The guy frowned, leaning his arms against the back of the bench as he continued to stare before he sighed in disappointment and averted his eyes. "I guess I'm not as popular as I thought."
"That's being a bit stuck up, don't you think? Unless that's a new line to pick up women! Well, too bad for you, because I already have a boyfriend!" Usagi crossed her arms boastfully. For some reason, the guy started laughing and she looked at him, wondering what was so funny.
He hopped over the bench and stood in front of her. He wasn't too close to her, but her heart still skipped a beat.
"You're weird." He said as he moved past her.
Usagi turned in his direction, huffing at him. "Hey, that's not very nice!" she exclaimed at him as she started to get irritated again. It didn't help he was going towards the exact same place he had told her not to go. "What are you doing?! Didn't you say that this area was for authorized personnel only?!"
He lifted up his arm, but didn't turn in her direction. "I happen to be one of those personnel! See you later, Odango!"
Usagi growled at the nickname, clenching her fists. She didn't know why this guy was riling her up. The only one who ever did that was Mamoru and it didn't help he used the nickname her boyfriend used to call her.
"The nerve of that guy!" Usagi huffed. "The only one who can call me Odango is Mamo!" Her hands relaxed and her posture softened as she stared at the spot where the guy once was. "Strange…feels like I should know him." She mumbled that to herself.
"What was that about?" Luna questioned, making her look at the talking cat on her shoulder.
"N-nothing really." Usagi answered to brush it off. "Just saw him briefly, that's all, when I saw Mamo off."
Her cat made a small noise, signally that she believed her. It was a relief, to say the least. Not that Usagi was lying or anything.
The blonde looked back in the direction the guy went. Just who are you and why do I get the feeling that this won't be the last time we see each other?
TBC...
So, here's the first chapter! Not many Seiya and Usagi moments, but trust me, they will be coming! Please leave reviews and let me know what you thought of the first chapter!
Also, I will be continuing if you guys like it, I'm kind of nervous to post it but I still hope you enjoy reading it.
Anyway, until next time!
