A/N: I hope you guys enjoy it! I am a big fan of this pairing and wish there were more stories out there. I am not a good writer, but I will try to make a story that is at least decent to read for those fans out there like myself. Lately, I find myself re-reading the few awesome KakaHina fics and I just keep crossing my fingers hoping that one of my favorite authors will start to write more/another KakaHina fic.
Chapter 1
It was an extremely warm day in Konoha. Hinata made her way to the Hokage's office and was rethinking her choice of clothing for once. The oversized jacket and pants made her hotter as she walked to her destination. Although the weather was affecting her mood, she still couldn't help the excitement that was creeping up within her.
She was finally going to get assigned to a mission. It had been quite some time since peace was restored in Konoha. She liked the peace and didn't take it for granted, but she couldn't help wanting to do something a little adventurous. Something to ignite the fire within her again.
Ever since she confessed to Naruto, she felt a wave of emotions overcome her. First, was the disappointment and rejection from never getting a reply. Then, came the insecurities. Finally, she had learned to just accept it. She was proud to finally say that she now was ok with it and cherished their friendship. She still admired him.
"Hinata, hurry and come in already!" Hinata quickly opened the door pulling herself from her thoughts, just now realizing she was already in front of her office.
"Good morning, Tsunade-sama." She said as she bowed.
"Hinata, I've called you here because there is an important mission I have for you. Now, if only your partner arrived on time I could give you all the details." Tsunade's annoyance in her partner's tardiness was evident and Hinata wondered who Tsunade paired her with. She didn't know many people who would dare to be late.
"Um, Tsunade-sama, who exactly is my partner?" Tsunade smirked. She was going to enjoy sending Hinata's partner on this mission. She felt it was only fair considering he still didn't want to assume his responsibilities and left Tsunade to still do the work. She suddenly sensed his presence outside the window.
"Come in, Kakashi! You're late!"
Hinata's eyes widened. Kakashi Hatake would be her partner. She didn't dislike the man, in fact she respected him,but she was intimidated knowing it would be just them two. She was nowhere near the same skill level as him and only hoped she would not embarrass herself on this mission.
"Yo. Good morning to you, too." He knew the Hokage would be irritated with him upon arriving late. She was already annoyed with him, pestering him to become the sixth Hokage everyday. He wondered what form of punishment she planned for him. There, standing in the middle of the room, was the Hyuga heiress. He remembered her quite well from their past mission with her team. She was older now. Dare he say— she had grown to become quite a beautiful young woman. What kind of punishment Tsunade had for him that would involve Hinata as his partner. He nodded towards Hinata and went to stand next to her to hear what their mission would be.
"Now, your mission will involve one week of your time. It's a little delicate so it will require you to monitor the situation by blending in as much as possible. You will both be required to go to a town famous in the Land of Fire as a honeymoon destination. Luckily, for you two it's not that far." Tsunade smirked watching the faces of the two shinobi in front of her.
"You don't have to hide your profession. It is quite common for shinobi in love to go. However, you do need to keep a low profile to not raise suspicions and I don't think I need to tell you what kind of behavior is expected from you two in order to not blow your covers." Tsunade eyed Hinata, seeing the redness on her cheeks now extend to her neck.
"Understood, now what exactly are we looking out for ?" Kakashi intervened, afraid his new partner might faint soon. Tsunade was having a little too much fun with the details of the mission. He could already see his new partner's eyes begin to lose their focus as the redness in her face became more intense. This mission sounded ridiculous already, but there had to be something more urgent to it for Tsunade to summon him for a week-long mission as much as he knew she wanted to get back at him for not giving her a proper response about becoming the next hokage. If she would only stop—
Tsunade cleared her throat. She looked directly at the Copy Ninja.
"People are going missing. More specifically, young women are going missing." Tsunade closed her eyes in thought. The grim look she now sported only adding to the seriousness of what they might face. "The women are often around your age Hinata. That is one of the reasons for choosing you for this mission. Your mission is to gain as much information on the situation and find out what our abductor is doing with these women. You see our abductor doesn't just abduct any women, he specifically abducts female shinobi. A lot of single kunoichi come to this town as well for the hot springs. Those are usually the one who go missing."
"Ano, Tsunade-sama, so then why must we go in as newlyweds?" Hinata's soft voice interrupted. Kakashi glanced at her and noticed the tenseness in her body. He had to admit he was probably as uncomfortable as she was right now. The idea of having to pretend to be a couple was not something he was prepared for.
Tsunade sighed. She knew it was an odd request, especially for the two shinobi in front of her. A part of her felt guilty for sending Hinata, knowing how shy the poor girl is, but she needed her specifically. Her byakugan was recognizable and she had a feeling that would help draw out whoever was behind all of this.
"I know this is uncomfortable, but we can't let anyone know we are on to their location and have them move. Having Kakashi as your husband would not only be a great cover, but it would insure your safety as well. It would allow him to be with you at all times without looking suspicious." Kakashi nodded in understanding. He was essentially going to be a bodyguard for this mission. Hinata was the one who would really lure their abductor out. He was her insurance. Hinata was looking down now, playing with the long sleeves of her purple jacket.
Tsunade shook her head. They would just have to pull through the best they can.
"So, do you both understand now?" They nodded in response.
"Good. Then, that is all. Leave as soon as possible. Our abductor, smartly, does not like to stay in the same spot forever."
Kakashi walked up the gate to find Hinata already there waiting for him. After leaving the Hokage's office, they both agreed that they would pack up better for the long trip and meet up in thirty minutes. He raised an eyebrow at the blushing girl, who was wearing much less clothing than she was earlier. She had a sleeveless shirt and black shorts. He didn't blame her with how hot it was, but her choice of clothing was revealing to him her soft curves and it only reminded him of the role both were supposed to play upon reaching the village. Feeling the sweat on his brow, he motioned to her for them to get going.
"This weather is not exactly the best for traveling, but luckily it's not that far. "
They had been running non-stop for an hour now and Hinata still could not wrap her mind around the mission. Even more, she didn't know what to do with the man slightly ahead of her. Kakashi was to be her husband. She knew it was just for a mission, but she couldn't help the blush that stained her cheeks every time she thought about it. Looking at the man in front of her, she couldn't help to notice his tall, lean, muscular figure. It was no secret that he was attractive, even with the mask hiding most of his face. She saw Kakashi motion for her to stop and nervously wondered if he had noticed her eyes on him. He hadn't said a word to her since they left the village.
"Hinata-san, we are close to the village now. We can walk from this point on and take it easy." Kakashi was amused by the Hyuga heiress now beside him. He noticed her sigh in relief and take a big gulp of water. He had noticed her eyes on him and could see the tension in her body. He sighed. He wondered how they were going to be able to pull this mission off with this kind of tension between them. He knew he had to make her feel more comfortable around him and loosen her up a little for any of this to work.
"Hinata-san, how about we get to know each other a little better?" He watched the girl look up at him in surprise. "Afterall, you will be my wife for the upcoming week. It would seem a bit odd if we don't know much about each other." He watched the girl nod. Understanding, flowing through her eyes.
"H-hai. Kakashi-sensei—"
"Now, now Hinata. That just won't do. We must drop all formalities." Hinata quickly realized her mistake. If they were going to fool anyone, she couldn't refer to him as her sensei anymore.
"U-understood." He smiled at the young girl—no, the young woman, who was now looking at him with her full attention.
Hinata watched the masked man reach into his back pocket and pull out an orange book. At least, she knew one thing about him. He loved that book. Granted, that was something everyone in her village knew. Why did he pull that book out anyway if they were supposed to be getting to know each other?
Kakashi watched his partner in amusement. He saw the confusion in her eyes and small frown that set. He hadn't meant to seem rude. He just really wanted to know what was going to happen next between the two undercover ninja in the story. Although, he knew exactly what was going to happen next. In fact, these were his favori—
"E-Excuse me. Kakashi?" He scratched the back of his head and glanced at her.
"Ah right." He cleared his throat. "So, how about we start with things we like?" Hinata could almost swear the masked man was blushing.
"For example, I really really like the Icha Icha series." He grinned holding the book up. She felt her eyebrow twitch. Everyone knew that. "Have you read it?" He was now teasing her, knowing her cheeks would be stained red. He was starting to find it cute in the few hours they have been together.
"Ano, Kakashi, how about other hobbies?" Hinata knew full well what kind of things were in that book, and having the attractive man in front of her while thinking of those things were making her feel strange.
Hinata now found herself watching the man sitting at the table currently engrossed reading. After sorting out most of their story, Hinata found herself more and more intrigued by the Copy Ninja. They arrived at the town and were currently in their room. He had quickly acquired the room, and much to her embarrassment, it was the honeymoon suite. It hadn't taken long for them to unpack and become familiar with where everything was at. It was not a huge room, afterall. Shortly after, she mentioned that they needed to buy food for meals and volunteered, while he took that moment to explore the village and become aware of their surroundings.
Upon arriving back to the room, she quickly made dinner, opting for what she now knew was his favorite meal. He revealed a bit of personal information to her that she was sure no one else really knew based on how infamously private the man is known to be. She had heard enough times from Sakura how private her sensei could be and how little they really knew of his life. She knew they were small details, but still she found herself pleased knowing she knew just a little more about the mysterious man than most. She blushed remembering his reaction earlier.
"My favorite?" He raised an eyebrow at Hinata who had just placed the dinner at the table. He watched her cheeks flare a vibrant red and avert her eyes. Once again he was amused with her. They had just divulged a few details about each other and already she was using the information. Hinata felt a little foolish for wanting to please him. She might not be able to impress him with her skills, as she was nowhere near the same level as him, but she was confident enough in her cooking. She looked down at the saury and miso soup with eggplant in front of them. At least, she hoped her confidence was not unwarranted. Would he like her cooking?
Hinata was biting her lip and he found it cute how she was worried. She finally looked up and caught his eye. He had to admit her pale eyes were truly captivating.
"Why, my dear wife, this looks delicious."
Kami, help her. Her cheeks were on fire for the 100th time since they left and the day wasn't even over.
Kakashi looked at the woman beside him. She was fiddling with her fingers, a habit he vaguely remembered her do the few times they have been together in the past. He could tell she was lost in her thoughts. He could only wonder what the young woman was thinking when her cheeks suddenly flared up again. He chuckled to himself. Hinata was innocently cute.
"Well Hinata, why don't you rest up? Tomorrow we'll go out around town and see if we can find out anything about the missing women."
She stood to make her way to the room.. "Hai." Kakashi was right. Their mission was only just starting. He watched her make her way to the room. Before entering, she turned and looked at him, questioningly. He raised an eyebrow, waiting for her to make known what was on her mind.
"A-Ano, Kakashi, what about you?" He blinked. So that's what she wanted to know. "Hmm, don't worry Hinata. Although we are supposed to behave like a couple in public, we are safe here. It shouldn't—"
"N-No. I mean...where will you rest then?" She was fiddling with her fingers. She didn't want the man in front of her to sacrifice his comfort for her for a whole week. If anything, she was small enough to fit on the modest couch comfortably. A hand suddenly touched her shoulder, startling her. His face was so close to her's. She hadn't even realized he moved. She could see the smile behind the mask and wondered what it looked like without it.
"Thank you, Hinata. But you really shouldn't worry about me. Please, I insist you take the room." She wasn't sure if it was the haziness she was feeling from his closeness and the warmth in his eyes as he gazed down at her, or if it was just concern for her partner's comfort, but the words that blurted out of her mouth shocked her.
"K-Kakashi, we should share the bed then!" She looked away, afraid of his reaction to her boldness. "I mean...the bed is big enough for the both of us." Kakashi grabbed her chin and directed her gaze back to him.
" Let's go to bed then, shall we?"
