Author's Note: Unless stated otherwise each chapter or section is written in the third person.
I changed James' parent's names from Fleamont and Euphemia to Charlus and Dorea. Simply because I always pictured their names like that and because honestly it's easier to remember and it stuck.
WARNING: In later chapters there will be minor mention of abuse, depression, suicide. Please if these are trigger warnings for you please do not read and seek help.
Chapter 1: Back to the Beginning
Albus Dumbledore was sitting at his desk chewing on a lemon drop. He had a very interesting couple of days, to say the least. Several days ago he received a letter in a box with a crystal projector and seven vials of memories with information stating that the writer of the letter was from the future. 20 years in the future to be exact. They were providing him information detailing seven consecutive years of a future student of Hogwarts; named Harry Potter. The idea was ridiculous at first since the only student at Hogwarts with the last name Potter was one Mr. James Potter who along with his friends were notorious for his pranks. Deciding to humour them he read through the letter in its entirety and watched the seven sets of memories detailing this Harry Potter's life. It appeared he was mistaken in his first assessment of the letter. He couldn't deny the impossibility of what he witnessed and the improbability that someone would and could fabricate such a detailed lie.
It was informative, to say the least.
And concerning if all that was shown was true. The memories took place over a decade in the future. He had hoped that the war against Voldemort would have ended by now but it seems that he was wrong. He gained answers for questions he didn't even know he had. The future seems to get worse before it gets better. Basilisks, prophecies and Horcruxes. He never thought Tom would have fallen so far into the darkness. He couldn't help but be thankful and sent a silent prayer to this mysterious H.G who signed the letter for sending him this information. With his new found knowledge he could help save a lot of lives and end this war before it ever truly began. But it wasn't for only him to view and to decide. The letter contained more than one piece of paper.
A list of names was written on the second one.
The people whose names were written were also supposed to watch the memories. The letter implied that after these people watch the memories, as long as they work together they would be able to prevent the future from happening. He wasn't sure how this future savour came to this conclusion. Dumbledore hoped that they came to this conclusion through a series of complex arithmetic equations instead of just guesswork and wishful thinking. He was concerned that most of the people on the letter were still his students, however, after watching the memories he couldn't deny the important role they would play. Individual letters were addressed to these people as well. And that more people may be asked to join. He was very familiar with the individuals listed and it was a mixed group to put it lightly. Several of the students weren't exactly friendly with one another or even on speaking turns and yet the fate of the future rested on their shoulders.
Well, this was going to be fun. Or a complete disaster. Either way the next couple of days will be highly entertaining, as long as he wasn't in the crossfire. However, these memories didn't exactly show his future self in the greatest of light. But this was the future after all and people changed. Though in some scenes he could be perceived as manipulative. But in times of war leaders have to move their chess pieces in a specific order to win the war. Not that he necessarily thought of his students as pawns. Sometimes he needed to make sacrifices for the greater good.
He hesitated before popping another lemon drop in his mouth. Perhaps it would be best that he wasn't present for the upcoming sit-down. Many of the individuals who will be in the room are going to have an emotional connection with the subject of these memories. And they may have a strong reaction to some of the decisions his future self made in regards to this person. And though he can see the flaws in his decisions he couldn't deny that the end result of peace was worth it. Though it was clear that this was an alternative method to gaining peace that he never considered.
Yes, it might be best if he left the children to watch the future on their own. He had some concerns about them needing guidance but figured now was the time for them to settle their differences on their own. And of course, they would be supervised by adults. Hopefully, they would get along long enough to realize the gift they are being given. If not they will ruin everything everyone in the future has suffered for.
Well it seemed like he had his work ahead of him. And there was no time like the present to act. At least he only had a few stops to make to collect everyone. He looked down at the paper one last time before deciding on where to start. Written on the piece of paper were eight names. And some of them were going to need some convincing to get them all into a room together.

Regulus POV
What in the world was Dumbledore up to this time. Regulus Black thought to himself as he stood at the gates of Hogwarts waiting. Waiting for something. It was the middle of the summer in 1977 and for some strange reason, the Headmaster stopped by at his house to retrieve him for something that he has yet been told. He doesn't for one second believe the excuse he gave his parents that he; Regulus will be assisting with the Headmaster in the reformation of the school curriculum. That it will take up to a week and for him to pack a bag of necessities. Despite his parents' disdain for the headmaster they couldn't help but be elated at this opportunity for him. Cause of course it will give him sway in the right circles to know he is making an impact at Hogwarts. It was all about him advancing his status in the eyes of his parents. He on the other hand couldn't care less about why he was here. But more so why the Headmaster lied about why he was here. He would be a piss poor Slytherin if he blindly followed Dumbledore like a Gryffindor.
He was currently waiting for Dumbledore to return from wherever he disappeared to. He was discussing the different types of trees that were in the forbidden forest before he told him to stay put and wait for him. When he turned to ask why the man had already vanished.
Well, this can't be good.
He watched as his estranged brother; Sirius Black and his friends Remus Lupin and James Potter and his parents walked towards him. All with a bag on their arms like him.
"What are you doing here Reg?" Sirius asked me. This being the first time he has spoken to me in a year since he ran away from our home last summer. He looked the same except there was a permanent smile on his face. Clearly, he was happier with his present company than he ever was with me. Occasionally we would pass one another in the halls but I doubt he noticed as my eyes lingered on him for a few moments before he would disappear again. The memoring of him leaving last year was still clear in his memory. He stormed out of the house with a racket. Everyone knew that when he left he wasn't going to be coming back. And at that point his parents were relieved and didn't stop him. Sirius stormed throughout the house as he packed up his belongings and left a few surprises behind for our parents. He swore and yelled as he went but he never once stopped to see Regulus. They hadn't been close ever since he was sorted in Gryffindor but they were still brothers. And it hurt when he left without even a goodbye. He moved on with his friends and new found family. And of course James Potter and Sirius Black were now unofficial official brothers. And Regulus was replaced. So he wasn't exactly the biggest fan of Potter.
"Dumbledore brought me here, what about you guys?" I asked indifferently. Though I already knew the answer.
"He sent us a letter, asking us to meet him here. Where is he anyway?" Sirius replied.
"He left to gather what I suppose are more people since he isn't here with you guys."
A few moments passed as my brother and I purposely avoided eye contact with one another. He and his friends were joking around and I couldn't help but notice that one of the Marauders; Pettigrew, was missing. Nonetheless, it was of no concern to me. He chose his new family and well... I am stuck with ours.
A crack erupted through the air as Dumbledore reappeared in the clearing. But he wasn't alone, as I presumed. With him was Lily Evans, noticeable by her flaming red hair. On their other side was my friend Severus Snape. Though he may be a year older than me and was in fact in my brother's year, he was still my friend. My only friend if I am being honest. Which was hard to come by in Slytherin house. You never knew who was lying and trying to manipulate you. Severus though had no such need for such tactics unless he felt he was being threatened. It took a few years for Severus to open up to him and even then he lived in secrets and shadows. But it was familiar. Severus was on the path to becoming a powerful wizard and many people knew that. They wanted to use him. And sometimes Severus let them. But Regulus believed that Sevrus considered him his friend. He was comfortable with him. It does help that he gets along as well with my brother and his friends worse than I do. I couldn't help but notice that he was walking slower than usual and has a split lip which isn't uncommon with him. He tends to be injured more than he is healed. I doubt that anyone else would notice these slight differences in him unless they were familiar with his behaviour and demeanour. He walked towards me as he scowled at the others. Though he avoided eye contact with Evans. I could already see the gleam in my brother's eyes as he plans a way to prank him during this little get together. Already brewing trouble, as usual.
"You look like shit." He whispered to me. Obviously noticing my discomfort at being in close proximity with my brother. He was always able to tell how I was feeling. Much to my annoyance.
"Speak for yourself," I say back to him. Resulting in him to smirk. This was how it always was between us, insults laced with hidden concern.
I knew I should have stayed home, I think as I take in the group that I am surrounded with. A group full of Gryffindors surrounding two Snakes. We've faced worse odds though.
