Intro Notes (Recommended to be read before starting the story): All of Yokai Watch belongs to Level-5 Inc. and to their respective owners.
This story begins where there has been a time skip from when our protagonists: Nate, Katie, and Hailey Anne started university, to now them being in their final year already, despite the yokai being unaware of it. I thought at this point, would be a reasonable time for Nate and Hailey Anne to lose their yokai watches, as it seemed to be stated when the Shadowside anime began airing, but it wasn't explained in full detail. This is why I just wrote a reason I thought would work to explain why they did lose their watches. I'll plan to have Katie get a yokai watch later.
Also, please note that there will be time skips, as when writing down my initial thoughts for this story, I wasn't sure how many non-plot-related points I should add before I completely steer off the plot. I apologize if you prefer those types of stories where all events take place right after each other where it doesn't feel rushed. That's all for now.
Morning arrived as the sun bid its welcome. "Good morning Nate!" Nate's yokai butler Whisper said happily to only find him not there and then found himself not in Nate's dorm either and instead, found himself in a hazy dimension. "Where did he go?!" he screamed worriedly.
"What's wrong?" Jibanyan asked yawning.
"First of all, we're no longer in Nate's dorm and he's not here with us either!" Whisper said in a panicked tone.
"Hmm, seems like it," Jibanyan added before noticing a flash of light in the corner of his eye. "What's that?" he wondered as the two approached the light. The light was in a sky-blue hue, but it seemed to be disappearing as well. When it sensed the two, it flashed even brighter, showing something in the process. Several images appeared consisting of a boy who looked familiar to them, but older, and with others who one assumed to be his friends. "Is that Nyate?" Jibanyan asked.
"I think so. So, that means, he was still with us before, but I have the feeling that I don't even remember when this was," Whisper sighed. The blue light showed off one final image before the light disappeared altogether. That image was of a boy they definitely did recognize being Nate when the two first met him who was with Whisper and JIbanyan laughing and having a good time together. "Wait!" Whisper screamed as that image too disappeared. The haziness soon disappeared as it was replaced by a more somber atmosphere before feeling a shock to their minds.
"Hey Whisper, what were we just doing?" Jibanyan asked.
"I don't know either," Whisper replied before taking out his yokai pad. "Wait, did we jump into the future?!" he said, shocked.
"Hmm, perhaps we were somehow unconscious from last night and time had just passed by us without noticing it," Jibanyan said with a sarcastic tone.
"Oh, don't be ridiculous. I'll just refresh my yokai pad, which should solve it," Whisper said before something else got the two's attention that being an email notification. "Hmm, let's see," Whisper said. The notification said:
"Please go back to the main district of the yokai world where there'll be an important announcement made for everyone regarding the future of the yokai world and its connection to the human world."
"Well then let's go," Jibanyan said as the two soon found themselves near the portal entrance to the entire yokai world before soon arriving at their destination.
"Attention all yokai, starting now, all will not be permitted to enter the human world due to there being no longer a need to inspirit humans as well. The bridge between our two worlds will for now be closed, as well as the yokai watch no longer needing to exist. That is all for now," the king of the yokai world said as the yokai soon dispersed, leaving to their previous matters.
"So, what will you do now?" Whisper asked.
"I honestly don't know," Jibanyan replied as the two soon wandered around aimlessly figuring out what to do with their lives with Jibanyan deciding to go back to the Academy where he worked as a teacher under the name Nyanpachi Sensei while also practicing fighting against trucks while Whisper went to study and practice his butler skills respectively.
In the human world now when this announcement was made, Nate and his friends were already well on their way to their final year of university. The memories he and Hailey Anne had with the yokai were disappearing as well of times where they, Whisper, Jibanyan, and Usapyon would be together having fun and getting involved with the daily shenanigans caused by the yokai. The watch users soon forgot almost everything that happened with the yokai and his friends who were once inspirited had their minds emptied too. It was as if nothing had changed during their childhoods and were once again starting anew.
"Hmm, that's done," Nate said as he was getting ready for bed after finishing a preparatory reading. "It still feels weird to be almost done with university now. I'll soon be out in the world doing whatever I can to make a living, which seems quite grim about it" Nate thought, staring at his ceiling dorm before dozing off.
Next day…
"So Nate, do you want to hang out later this afternoon at the fountain garden?" his friend Katie asked as the two were walking on their way to their final class of the day.
"Huh, sure," Nate replied back as he took a sip of water.
"Ok, see you then," Katie said as she waved goodbye back. "I'm glad to be soon done with university. It honestly feels like yesterday since everything began. Especially on that first day," she thought on her way to her final class of the day. This aforementioned first day was when she saw Nate seemingly talking to himself again for at least the millionth time in a content tone.
'Have you seen how he still talks and acts to himself?'
'He'd be great for the world of the theater given his portrayal of emotions.'
'But still, he's as average as ever.'
This first one resonated with her as she swore that she had seen it happening since elementary school even but wasn't sure what to think about it and didn't want to make her seem crazy. Although, she noticed that this behavior started to disappear ever since university began. Before then, he was happy, and other times, he was irritated, sad, etc. She sometimes thought that the emotions Nate showed when he was talking to himself were due to something going on in his life and wondered if he acted, or was purposely average to serve as a facade. Over time, she became accustomed to his peculiar behavior as he was still one of her best friends, even if she had some feelings for him in a more romantic way ever since high school to even now, when Nate seemingly stopped acting in his oh-so peculiar way. But to her, she also presumed that Nate was always like this, which is why she never questioned him about it back then and even now. Probably due to not wanting to end their friendship over something so trivial like that.
Meanwhile with Nate…
"This is quite hard. I think I'll just go over this at night," Nate thought as he left his final class for the day before heading outside to the fountain garden. In his mind, he was wondering whenever he would or will ever confess his love to her. He didn't deny to his friends back then about his crush on her and enjoyed whenever they spent time with each other. Nate honestly didn't know what to do and just kept wondering about what to do before arriving at his destination. The day soon passed as the influx of student voices started to echo throughout the garden area causing Nate to snap out of his thoughts to text Katie that he's at the fountain garden. He soon received a reply back from Katie mentioning that she was on her way.
"I'm here," Katie said as she arrived.
"Hi Katie, how's your day been?" Nate asked.
"It's been well, you?" she asked.
"Decent, but I'm managing," Nate responded.
"Well, hope everything goes well. Oh, by the way, there's something I wanted to ask?" Katie said.
"Thanks, and sure, what is it?" Nate responded.
"I know that it's way too late to ask this, but is there a reason why you've talked to yourself ever since the near end of elementary school almost all the way to the beginning of university?" Katie asked. If I don't ask now, then I'll never know," she thought to herself.
"Honestly, I don't even remember why," Nate said.
"Oh, ok then. I was simply curious as many people have been mentioning that about you, so I just wanted to ask about it," Katie followed up with.
"Alright. You know, it only feels like yesterday since that day," Nate said looking at the serene view ahead.
"What day?" Katie asked in confusion.
"Oh, nothing, never mind," Nate said a bit nervously. "Was I supposed to say something else?" he thought.
"Well, we should get dinner with the others," Katie said as the two left.
Back in the yokai world…
"Lord Enma, are you sure this is the right thing to do?" asked his secretary Zazel.
"I've seen that humans and yokai can interact with each other, but I think a nice long break is needed once a while to let humans free from our doings. I'm sure they're tired of having their days ruined because of us, which is also why all of the yokai watches were disposed of," Enma replied.
"I see. Will there ever be a time when the watches would come back to us?" Zazel asked.
"Only in times of need, I would say," Enma answered as he shifted his attention to a glowing crystal ball at a distance away. "Hmm," he said, inspecting it along with Zazel.
"It appears that the memories of the current yokai watch users have now almost been erased," Zazel remarked as the light was still pulsing weakly.
Thanks for reading.
