"Let's skate infinitely," Langa said, forming an O with his hand.
"Lat's skate infinitely," Reki agreed, joining the O with his own to make an infinity symbol.
Clap. Dap. Infinity.
"I missed this, just talking and skating casually, you know?" Reki let out a small sad smile. "What about you? I bet you were having the time of your life at S, skating with ADAM and the others." He asks, loneliness colouring his voice.
"Bro no! You're like, my whole reason for skating. You're my teacher, my idol, my motivation. Without you, skating feels dull and bland and boring." Langa's face grew serious, "Without you, I wouldn't be where I am. I wouldn't be able to fly. I wouldn't be able to do any of the things that I can now! You're my reason to skate and I may have lost sight of that because of some even run by an awful, awful man, but now- Now it feels like I can see again."
Reki turned almost as red as his hair, "Really? Like, you're not just saying that?"
"Yes! yes you idiot, you're like my light"
"Oh my God, you're so cheesy!" Langa smiled and Reki is sure that he is too.
There was a moment of silence.
"Hey, Langa, are we about to kiss? I mean it's fine if I misread the atmosphere or whatever but like my mum thinks we're dating and honestly I just want to confirm that. I mean it's fine if you don't want to and I just misread the atmosphere, like, if that's the case, then you can just ignore the fact that I said that." Reki laughed nervously.
"I mean, I thought that we were. I dating, that is. I just thought you were just kinda shy with this sort of thing-" Langa cut himself off with a smile and a word in a language Reki doesn't understand.
And then suddenly, their lips collided. The kiss was by no means perfect and Reki couldn't tell who had initiated it, but he wouldn't have it any other way. He melted into the kiss as imaginary fireworks seemed to explode around them and electricity seemed to dance between them. It was a little awkward at first, what with their inexperience and clashing teeth, but it was perfect nonetheless. Langa's lips were soft but slightly chapped, a by-product of battling the icy cold winds at top speed on a skateboard, Reki thinks, but there was something magnetic about it. They just clicked. Kissing Langa was like that addictive feeling of joy and adrenalin when you finally finish building the perfect custom skateboard that you've been working on for months and you take it out for it's first proper ride and it runs so smoothly. It was like he'd finally found the right jigsaw piece for his patchwork family. While it was only a couple of seconds long, it felt like it lasted an eternity, and while he would never admit it out loud, Reki wished that it would never end.
"Wow." He ends up saying, feeling a little breathless and in a daze after they broke apart. "So- So does this mean that we're dating?"
"I think so," Langa says, resting his forehead against Reki's and letting out a contented sigh, "I think so."
oh woah let's keep the feeling
anyway, fuck me with a chainsaw because i keep fucking forgetting to save this document every time i close my laptop and then lose all of my writing. I've had to write all of this out four times now. FOUR! if it keeps doing this I'm just gonna have to take it as a sign from the universe to stop trying to crosspost this fic on here :/ also formatting is so hard. its so hard and for what.
also, disclaimer, i don't own sk8, it be- jkjk i don't skateboard and so don't know if any of the analogies I used were accurate in any way shape or form (I'm waiting for someone to make a sapphic roller skating anime to complete the triad of swag sports anime and just so i have a show where i can talk about things that i actually know lol) did that make sense? idk. I'm running on four hours of sleep and an awful cold
this fic is a rewrite, but if you want to find the original, it's crossposted on ao3
have fun and stay safe :)
