A/N: This is a special gift for a friend. I know many don't ship OCs with InuYasha and only see him with Kagome or Kikyo. Yes I'm a big shipper of InuYasha and Kagome, but I understand we can like different things and still be friends. After all friends don't always like the same foods and still can be besties. So please be open minded and read if you'd like.

Chapter 1

in Naomi's past life (as Ayumi)

Ayumi stayed close to her mother as they walked through the strange village. Her hair was dark as night and fell just below her shoulders. Her mother smiled down at her as they walked. Though the woman was her adopted mother she still considered her to be her real mom. Her adopted father was still a few days travel behind them, but would catch up soon. During these times it was normal to have to look for a new place to stay. With the wars and bandits many villages were destroyed. This was why Ayumi and her mother were in this new village. Their home was burned and many villagers had died from the attack to their small village. This wasn't the first time Ayumi and her family had to leave to find a new place to live, still every time she hoped to find a place they could stay and live happily. She really wanted to make a friend too.

As they walked Ayumi noticed some villagers gathered in one place. They seemed to be playing a game with a ball. A small boy was there too, he seemed to be trying to get the ball from the villagers. They were laughing at him, she even heard them calling him a half breed and then she watched as they tossed the ball away from the boy. His silver hair was longer than her hair and he had what looked like dog ears on top of his head. Her mother had stopped at a merchants stand and while her mother was talking Ayumi moved to where the ball was rolling and caught it.

The silver haired boy seemed shy as he approached her. He didn't make eye contact with her at first, he mostly kept his eyes on the ground and only glancing up for a second. It was then she noticed his golden eyes and smiled at him. Still the silver haired boy didn't know if it was safe to get the ball from her. Just then a man and woman passed her and said in a rude tone of voice. "Don't play with that half breed."

Ayumi gave the man and woman an angry look. "You people should learn respect, but maybe respect isn't in you." She told the man and woman, then handed the ball to the boy. "Don't listen to them little man, I think you're cute. Especially your ears, I love them. My name is Ayumi what's yours?"

Shyly he answered. "In..u...Yasha…" it was then he looked up at her long enough to notice her sapphire blue eyes. Something in her soft blue eyes told him it was safe to take the ball.

Ayumi couldn't help but feel like the little boy named InuYasha, was special like her and didn't fit in with other people in the village. She was glad her adopted mother had picked this village. Now she would be able to see InuYasha and maybe they could even have some play time together. Ayumi smiled to herself as she returned to her mother's side. She found someone like her, someone who was different and didn't fit in.

And for once her hopes soon came true, Ayumi saw InuYasha the next day and instantly they started playing together. Villagers would pass by and make rude comments and Ayumi would stand up for InuYasha every time she saw or heard these bad things the villagers said about InuYasha. He was her friend and as the days past, then became close friends and grew up together. It was a happy time for them both, but their happiness was so taken from them. Ayumi's adopted father was made to help in the upcoming war and couldn't go against the rules. It wasn't long after her father left her adopted mother fell ill with fever. Ayumi was heartbroken and found comfort in her time with InuYasha even more now.

Shortly after the passing of Ayumi's mother, she noticed InuYasha all alone sitting on a rock. His ears were low and tears were in his eyes. She knew that look, because it was the same as the way she looked when her mother passed away. Climbing up on the rock beside InuYasha, Ayumi simply set and kept him company. She knew there was one thing they did have right, now each other.

Ayumi and InuYasha relied on each other for many years, but as time passed InuYasha grew adventurous and roamed the forest. Sometimes he was gone for days and soon weeks passed. Ayumi knew her friend was strong and could handle himself if a fight started. There were many times he had outsmarted even the fastest of enemies. So Ayumi would do her normal work around the village and when InuYasha returned she would greet him with a smile and food. Ayumi chuckled, as she thought about how he always ate like a starved hog.

Ayumi was loved by all in the village, and her beauty made everyone stop and stare. She was admired by all, and some even said she held a strong resemblance to the cherry tree blossom princess. Of course she would always smile politely when they made this comment. Eventually InuYasha only returned every so many years to the village. Of course Ayumi missed him, but life kept moving forward for her. Until one day a strange man entered the village. He noticed Ayumi as she worked in her small vegetable garden. However he wasn't a normal man or monk as he proclaimed to be. He sensed Ayumi was different. "She is no normal human, that woman holds the powers of a goddess. And the very powers I need to continue in becoming stronger."
