Hi everyone, this is my first Avatar Legend of Korra story. We'll see where I go with this.
Leave your comments and opinions about it, please be polite, I don't want to block anyone (I still have to find out how, but still ...)
Excuse my grammar in advance, english is not my native language. I had to rely on books and the translator to translate as correctly as possible. If anyone offers up with that little problem, feel free to message me.
A special thanks to NeoNazo356 for all their help.
Thank you and enjoy.
I DON'T OWN AVATAR, THAT'S NICKELODEON
Chapter 1: Beginning
"HURRY. THOSE CONTAINERS ARE NOT GOING TO KEEP ONLY "
The boss's cry didn't motivate us at all. Maybe it had to do with the guy just sitting under an umbrella on top of a rock, sipping his juice over ice and watching us work. As if the bastard were superior. Although by his position it is.
"Fat bastard. He never does anything but yell at us", the guy next to me spoke resentfully. We were both pushing a small wagon full of coal that we had extracted from the mine. "Well, if you don't yell at us and pretend you're working, you're not doing your job as a foreman," I sarcastically replied to my suffering partner.
"VERY GOOD PEOPLE. TIME TO PAY, FORM A LINE "
After leaving the wagon in a warehouse, too far away, we formed a line at the boss's booth where they would give us our miseries. That compared to what the fat bastard made of course. Soon my turn came.
"RYU, BOY, YOU DID IT WELL. YOU IMPROVED YOUR BRAND WITH THE LAST TIME. TEN, I'LL GIVE YOU SOMETHING EXTRA THIS TIME "
If you weren't a little excited that you would be getting a little more than last time, you could put aside this guy's annoying loud voice. Unfortunately, I know it will only give me a few more coins than usual. But any salary improvement is welcome.
"Thank you Mr. Hao", I bowed a little to show respect. The guy might be lazy, loud and bastard, but he didn't take advantage of his workers and he always paid them fair. That gives it a good score in my books. At least enough so that he doesn't dream of stabbing him at night.
"NOTHING BOY, NOW GO BUY SOMETHING FOOD. THESE UP TO THE BONES", Hao waved her hand to move me away from the line.
After leaving the mine, I go to the market to buy some food. Hao was right in saying that I am very thin, but it was obvious considering that until a few weeks ago I started to eat well.
When I woke up in the middle of a beach four months ago, I did not think that I had reincarnated in another body. I thought it was a very bad joke from someone. I wouldn't know from whom because I didn't have many friends. But I thought it was hidden camera or something.
When I finally decided to stop waiting for a presenter's "CATCH YOU", I found myself in a small fishing village a few miles from where I was. Apparently they knew me, and they all started calling me Ryu.
I had a small existential crisis for a few hours, but I recovered quickly. I had no idea how I died. Probably while I was sleeping if I don't remember. But I accepted it, it's not like I had something from my past life that held me back in the first place. I was alone.
It was a bit confusing to be honest, but I adapted to the situation as best I could. It took a while for me to accept my new name as I liked the old one. But I understood that I had to accept it, as this was a new beginning. With a completely healthy body, that alone made up for all the bad things in the situation.
"Hey Ryu. Do you want to hear the Pro-bending finals?" As I walked with a bag with my purchases, a thick complexion with brown skin speaks to me from a small shop similar to a bar.
"Nah, Mr. Hao gave me a shift in the morning and I don't want to be late," I reply to the guy. I don't remember his name, but I know he works with me at the mine.
"You miss it friend. The Wild Boars-Porcupines are going to destroy the Monkeys-Spiders. IT WILL BE LEGENDARY!", It seems that this guy is a big fan of that sport of benders.
"Hehe. You can tell me everything tomorrow friend. See you", I say goodbye to him and continue on my way.
When I found out that I was in the world of Avatar, my excitement could not be contained. It was shortly after returning to that fishing village, after my existential crisis, that I found out. It wasn't difficult to draw conclusions when I saw some guys use waterbending to tow a sailboat.
Now, I was not only in a completely healthy body, but in my favorite world from childhood. Maybe I could meet the Gaang and kick some Fire Nation's butt, or why not, go off with the Fire Nation and woo my childhood platonic love, Azula. Maybe I'll convince her to have a threesome with Ty Lee. I was always the type of guy who has impossible dreams.
My sexual delusions were mercilessly destroyed that very afternoon when I heard on a radio about the 7th anniversary of Avatar Aang's death. The radio itself was already an indication that it was not in Aang's time, if not much later. The news about the anniversary of Aang's death was the last nail in the coffin.
Looks like it was in the Legend of… something. I knew there was an Avatar sequel, but I never paid much attention to it. At that time my mind was busy with other things, like not dying.
All I know about this new Avatar is that she is a woman and a lesbian. I only found out about that last from a random comment on the internet that said he didn't like it when the main character broke up with a woman. It sure broke her nighttime fantasies.
The streets I walk through are increasingly clear, until I come to an old stone building with a worn sign that says "Hotel". It was lucky that I studied Chinese and Japanese.
"Hi Ryu. Hard day?" The receptionist, a middle-aged lady named Mei, asks me from behind her desk. You must have noticed my drooping posture and bags under my eyes.
"Hi Mrs. Mei. Yes, a little harsh. But they paid me more, so it was worth it", As I get closer, I search my pockets for some money. "This is the payment for last week, and the payment for one more week in advance," I say as I hand the money to Mei.
"Well, Mr. Sheng will be able to annoy you for not paying on time," Mei chuckles as she accepts my money and writes something in her notebook, perhaps I no longer owe anything. "Well, everything is in order." He says while putting the pencil aside. "If you don't mind my asking Ryu, when are you planning to travel?"
"In fact, when this week is over. I've already gathered enough to travel to Omashu", I reply to the receptionist. There were a few minor details left, and he wanted to win as much as possible before the weekend.
"I see. Well, we're going to miss you Ryu", Mei replied with a slightly lonely smile. It seems that I have become more friends than I thought in this place. Who would say that just listening and being respectful could earn you so many good points. Certainly the service personnel believed so.
"I'll miss you too, Mrs. Mei" I say as I move to the stairs. "I'm going to rest; I have to get up early tomorrow." Mei just nods me and goes back to her business.
I go up two more floors before I get to my room. It is very simple, just a bed and a simple desk. I can see through the window that the sun is already setting, the work in the mine is heavy, but it also pays very well, so it is perfect for my plan.
After finding out that I am in the sequel to Avatar, I began to investigate everything I could. This is how I found out that I was in a small fishing village called Wan, on the western shores of the Earth Kingdom.
Later, I found out about other things. As there are now five nations, industrialization is at its peak, automobiles are called satomóviles, hatred for the Fire Nation is almost non-existent, and the Avatar is from the Southern Water Tribe.
Also, like any Avatar fan who inserts himself into his world, I wanted to see if he could bend any element. Perhaps the mighty earth, capable of creating tremors with a stomp; the shifting water, freezing enemies left and right; the fierce fire, to terrorize my enemies with flames and lightning; or air, I will definitely try to form a rasengan if I have airbending.
Unfortunately, my wishes were not fulfilled, you can't have everything apparently.
At first I tried to control myself, remembering the different movements I saw on the show. Away from town of course, he didn't want to make a fool of himself.
I could not move a little water, nor earth, generate air or fire. Don't get discouraged, so I decided to find someone to train me a bit. I thought it was too arrogant for a total newbie to bending without any guidance. I am not the protagonist of a xianxia.
It was not very difficult to find firebenders, earthbenders and waterbenders. I asked them to teach me some moves to see if it was a bender. They were kind enough to teach me a move or two. It didn't work either.
He couldn't test airbending because there was only one airbender, Tenzin, Aang's only son. But I had no illusions that I was an airbender.
But I wasn't going to give up, if I couldn't bend the elements then I would learn directly from their source. The bender animals.
I walk to my bed and lie down to rest. It has been about three months since my decision to learn the pushup from its source. When I saw that the money I was making in Wan was not enough, I decided to move to a mining town not far from where I woke up.
I walk to my bed and lie down to rest. It has been about three months since my decision to learn the bending from its source. When I saw that the money I was making in Wan was not enough, I decided to move to a mining town not far from where I woke up.
It didn't take me long to get a job in the mine with Hao, and since then I've been saving to travel to the Kolau Mountains, where I know for sure that Earthbending Mole Badgers live. I had even had a craftsman make me a guitar to reassure them in case something goes wrong.
It was good that I could play the guitar acceptably, and I have a good repertoire of songs that I could sing. When you are bedridden there is little you can do except listen to music until you are exhausted.
The options I had to learn to bending are: water with the moon, earth with the Mole Badgers, fire with the dragons and air with the flying bison.
Of those options, I discarded fire because I have no idea where the Sun Warriors might be, and there is only one other known living dragon, which is the mount of the previous Fire Lord Zuko, who I doubt will lend me his dragon for me. teach firebending. That is if your guards don't incinerate me first.
Another option to rule out was flying bison. They were a protected species and inhabit the Air Temple Island in Republica City, which is very far from my current position. So I put it as a final option. It was also because he really doubted that he was an airbender. It was the least likely control you have.
Which left me with the Mole Badgers and the Moon. I had already started my studies in waterbending and I practice every full moon. Meditating, observing the movement of the waves under their influence. So far I have not learned to move water. But Rome wasn't built in a day.
So now my current goal is to learn earthbending from the Mole Badgers. Hope that's my element. Although as the world of Avatar is, anyone could be my element.
The United Republic of Nations got people from all over the world to start socializing and bonding. Joining in marriage. That means that the prominent physical features of each nation change with each generation, making it difficult for me to figure out which element I can bend.
Ryu, the body in which he reincarnated, has light blue eyes, but not brown skin like those of the Water Tribe. But rather light skinned like an earthbender or firebender. I had no idea where it might originate from.
This reached another level when I saw a man with a brown complexion and blue eyes doing firebending. To say that my jaw dropped was an understatement. The guy looked like a waterbender in all his looks, but he was going firebending! I decided to reconsider my biases.
The benders animals (and the moon) were my last hope of learning to bend an element. If I didn't learn with the Mole Badgers ... I wouldn't know what else to do. I want to learn how to bending an element, if you could more than one, even better. One impossible dream at a time.
I thought about asking the current Avatar to give me some kind of bending, but I don't think I have that power.
When I woke up in this new world, in a healthy body, I believed that it was everything I wanted. A new world full of possibilities, a world of adventure waiting for me. But all that loses its grace when I can't bend an element. I curse and thank whoever sent me here. At least give me a body that can bend something!
I should be happy and grateful to be in this world. I remove myself from my miserable life full of drugs and care from strangers. It gave me a body capable of running more than 10 meters without my lungs popping out of my mouth. But, now that I know where I am, I can't not want that gift that only some are born with.
I get out of bed suddenly, walk to my desk, and open the left drawer. I take out a very worn-looking book and read its title: "The Known World." It is a kind of general guide that talks about the cities and important locations of the four nations. The book is from before the United Republic of Nations was formed. It is not very complete and is very outdated.
He is not well known, and I was given it as a gift for buying a book on earthbending. But there is something that caught my attention in this old book. Specifically, on the last sheet, is where there is a final message.
"Beyond the Territory of the Earth Kingdom, where the Sun sets, there is a completely unexplored continent. Adventurous men and women throughout the centuries have come to these lands with the purpose of being the first to bring knowledge of them. No one has ever made it back. That is why the place has a reputation for cursed calling it the Dark Continent.
They are told in legends that these cursed lands are inhabited by monsters capable of bending elements like any human, even surpassing them. Animals capable of bending elements such as dragons are said to have originated from the Dark Continent.
The place has had such a reputation that it is common sense not to think about exploring it, as it would only be suicide"
I tried to find more information about this Dark Continent, what little I found said the same thing: do not go to the Dark Continent. Anyone who has traveled to that place has never been seen again.
There was no mention of this continent in the original program. Or maybe, as the book says, it was just common sense to not even think about it.
The origins of the Mole Badgers, dragons or flying bison are never mentioned, nor where they learned to bending. What, if it is that the benders animals could learn from someone else, transmitting their bending to their offspring, like humans. What if that someone is on that Dark Continent?
Standing there reading the worn book in my hands, I had a decision to make.
Play it safe and try to learn earthbending from mole badgers, watching the moon for waterbending and flying bison for airbending.
Or be a suicidal idiot and go for the least logical, risky and stupid option; go to the Dark Continent where it is likely that I will find the source of the bending and my death, the second being more likely than the first.
"Haaah" I can't help a long sigh. I put the book aside on the desk and walk to the window. The sun is already giving its last vestiges of light.
Fortis Fortuna Adiuvat ... I did not think that this phrase will reach so deep in me for a movie.
"All my life I made safe decisions for myself. I never risk anything because my body wouldn't allow it" I don't know who I'm talking to, I guess it's to give me courage for the stupid thing I'm going to do. "Now I have this new life, a new body capable of doing what only in dreams I could do in my past life"
I place my hands on the edge of the window. "I don't want to die soon. But I won't make decisions based on my fear either. I will live this new life to the fullest. I will go to the Dark Continent, find the origin of the bending, and obtain it at all costs. That is my promise!"
I have no plans to die, if I go to that place, it will be with the intention of returning one day. I have the money that will help me buy a small boat and be able to travel there.
It was crazy? Surely. Was it insane? Hell yeah! I would die? Quite possibly. But none of that would stop me. I would live without regrets, even if it costs me my life!
I've already died once, and I'm not going to leave so young this time.
I'm not going to lie, I was terrified. But you know what it says: The first step is the hardest, the rest is just determination.
"... I better go out tomorrow before I regret it"
I hope I get my room advance money back.
10 years later - 170 AG
Captain Shenyi couldn't believe his bad luck. He had been the captain of his ship for almost 10 years. Transporting people and loads from different parts of the world to Republic City. This would be his last job and he would finally retire with a juicy pension. He never imagined that, with a few days before reaching the Republic City Port, some pirates decided to board his ship.
"Everyone, you better not move. I don't want to hurt you but be careful or-" said the pirate with a ridiculous animal mask "-you could get burned", he finished as he raised his hand and lit a flame. Laughing sinisterly
Shenyi, his crew and his passengers had been placed on the deck bound with their hands in front so that they would not try to get loose. His guards were no match for the ferocity of the pirates. And now they were checking them one by one to see if they had anything of value on top. Shenyi knew that the rest were checking the cabins.
The Captain had counted 10 masked criminals in all. There might be more on the ship they came from, but he wasn't sure.
"Mo-om, I am afraid," Shenyi could hear a girl next to him. "Easy honey, those bad men are leaving," the mother whispered, trying to calm her daughter.
"HEY BASTARD, I TOLD YOU NOT TO MOVE", the subject from earlier yelled and attacked at the feet of a poor guy who had moved a bit. The flame that I throw touched his feet and luckily it did not reach.
"BUUAAAAAAAAA!", The girl began to cry. The mother looked panicky as she tried to comfort the little girl. But it did not work. "BUAAAAAA!"
The girl's screams seemed to draw the fire bully's attention. Shenyi was preparing to step in front of the mother and daughter in case the pirate decides to attack them, when a draft of air hit the bully in the body and threw her overboard.
"Don't make a little girl cry"
Appeared out of nowhere, a figure covered in a black monk robes with a hood and a wooden staff, was in the middle of the deck surrounded by pirates who were looting people.
"Bastard-" the pirate who was searching the passengers comes out of his shock and runs towards the mysterious hooded man. But he doesn't get very far when the hooded man uses his staff to attack with a shove, but the pirate was too far away. Shenyi had to shake his eyes later at what he saw, because he just saw the staff grow in size and hit the pirate on the head!
The pirate fell like a bag of stones, passed out or dead, Shenyi does not know. The rest of the pirates come out of their shock and start attacking the hooded man.
A firebender attacks from behind with two fists and one high leg. The hooded man only somersaults backwards and lands on the firebender's head. Dropping down, the hooded man grasps his attacker's head between his thighs and turns back, launching the pirate toward his partner who was preparing a waterbending attack.
The hood swivels to the side to avoid hitting a sharp pipe thrown by a metalbender pirate from the upper deck. On the ground, she does a leg twist that sends a gust of wind to the sides, causing the approaching pirates to stumble. With an upward push, the hooded man shoots another blast of air, but this time toward the metalbender. The blast launched sent him flying backwards, hitting his back against the wall.
An airbender! Shenyi couldn't believe his eyes. He hadn't seen the guy getting on the boat. So either he's a stowaway or he was flying his glider and tripped over his boat. In any case, Sheyi didn't care.
The captain had not seen an airbender before, even less using his bending. But it would be foolish to think otherwise when he saw the hooded man fight by releasing powerful blasts of air that sent the pirates he struck flying.
Shenyi knew that there were only 4 airbenders in the world, Councilor Tenzin and his sons. Now it looks like there will be five.
He knew it couldn't be Master Tenzin, there was no news of him leaving Republic City and with the Equality Movement getting stronger, Shenyi doubts that he will leave the city in a short period of time. It couldn't be some of his children either, because the hooded one was clearly a grown man, and Master Tenzin's eldest son is a girl named Jinora.
So this was truly a new airbender! And it appeared on his boat! Shenyi could already imagine the story he was going to tell.
The Captain realized that the hooded man had already taken care of more than half of the pirates. The metalbender is unconscious face down with his foot caught in the railing of the upper floor.
The firebender and waterbender who attacked him were on top of each other with different bruises on their faces. And from the way they moaned, several more throughout their bodies. There were two other pirates lying on the sides of the ship, with different kinds of cuts all over their bodies. They didn't seem too serious, just enough to immobilize them.
Strange. I didn't see that the airbender had a weapon other than his staff. The airbender had disappeared inside the ship.
The screams and moans of the pirates inside the ship did not wait. The sound of meat hitting the steel of the ship was echoed by all the passengers who were watching closely. They couldn't see through the metal, but they got an idea of what was going through as the pirates' screams ranged from painful to very painful.
The girl from before, had stopped crying a while ago, now she was only with her mouth open, like her mother, looking and listening to the chaos that the hooded man was causing the pirates.
The screaming and wailing suddenly died away. The crowd feared the worst, but were forced to look to the side of the ship, where the firebender arsonist who had been launched initially, was climbing, trying to get on the ship. With a thud, he fell back onto the deck of the ship.
"Haa ... haaa ... w-whe-ere i-is i ..." His mask was lost and everything was soaked. "... where ... haa ... is it ...haaah… WHERE IS IT? !" yelled the fire pirate as he looked around. When he found no one. He turned to the stunned crowd that were still tied up. He raised his hand forming a large ball of fire in it.
"WHERE THE HELL IS IT? !" he yelled with a crazed look in his eyes, threatening them with his firebending.
Shenyi then saw that the hooded man had descended in complete silence just a few steps behind the crazed pirate. It was so quiet that if you hadn't seen it, you wouldn't know it was there in the first place.
Shenyi then saw that the hooded man had descended in complete silence just a few steps behind the crazed pirate. It was so quiet that if he hadn't seen it, he wouldn't know it was there in the first place.
The girl, left her stupor, and with a childish smile, raised her tied little hands, pointing towards the back of the madman. "There" she said to the pirate.
"EH ?!" the pirate spun around as fast as lightning. Pear it was too late.
"Hello again," with that greeting, the airbender turned his staff and struck the pirate on the jaw. Shenyi for a moment thought that such a blow would rip his head off.
With a thud, the last pirate had fallen.
The crowd suddenly stood up and began to howl. The Captain wasn't ashamed to admit he was one of those. People were crying and thanking the airbender. The latter only rubbed the back of his neck and bowed repeatedly thanking him. Heh, it seems like he's shy too. No one would believe him for the contained ferocity of his blows.
The hooded man walked into the crowd and swung his cane a little. The crowd was surprised to think that he was going to attack them, but realized that he had only created a gust of wind to cut the ropes that held them.
I didn't know you could do that with air control. Shenyi thought, but he wasn't an airbending expert so he wouldn't know what can or can't be done with that art. The rest of the crew must have thought the same because they didn't ask questions about it.
Once everyone was released, the ship's workers went to try to communicate with the Republic City police to inform them of what had happened, and to wait for them with enough patrols to arrest all the pirates. They were only a day from port if they were going full power, and at this point, they didn't want to spend too long at sea.
The passengers, on the other hand, gathered around the hooded man and began to thank him. The mother with the girl who were next to Shenyi were one of the most grateful. The little girl looked with stars in her eyes at the airbender.
Shenyi had to get back to work in a hurry, take care of the pirate ship, lock them up and other things, but first he had to thank the savior of his ship. He couldn't and didn't want to be ungrateful.
"Hi, my name is Shenyi, I am the captain of the ship. On behalf of my crew I want to thank you for helping us. Your help certainly prevented what could have been a tragedy. Shenyi said as formally as possible. "If you don't mind, I'd like to invite you to a suite that couldn't be occupied. Of course, if you want something more, I will be happy to do what is in my power to achieve it sir ... "
The airbender seemed to understand what Shenyi was trying to do, so he quickly pulled down his hood and revealed his appearance to introduce himself.
Shenyi has no doubt that the girl's mother wasn't the only one who gave a surprised gasp when the hooded man revealed himself. He had sharp, strong features that gave an impression of maturity. Funny, considering he looked 20 years old. The white hair and blue eyes only gave him an exotic touch that women undoubtedly found very attractive. Not to mention the shy smile that adorned her face. Cougars are going to love it. Shenyi chuckled.
"Only Ryu, no sir. I'm not that old" Ryu told him as he held out his hand.
"Good, only Ryu. Welcome aboard" Shenyi said as he shook Ryu's hand with a smile.
