Horror of Lady Dimitrescu
The Diary of Amelia Nimra
October 30th 1955
I was travelling towards the unnamed village where I was meant to go for my new job. Last week I received a letter telling me that I've been offered a job as a librarian at Castle Dimitrescu. Where that was I didn't have a clue, I still went to great lengths to find out what this Castle Dimitrescu was and where exactly it was located. After tirelessly researching at the City Library, I finally pinpointed a location in Eastern Europe. I lived in Germany so it wouldn't take that long of a journey. That night, I packed my suitcase filled with clothes and food that I would need for my long journey the following day. The next morning, I went to the train station and caught the next train to my location.
As the train left the station and began travelling across the countryside and the green hills, I sat in my carriage thinking about this castle I was heading to. I had my doubts about this as I had also read about some awkward stuff that went on in a village where Castle Dimitrescu is. Some stuff about murders taking place in which the victims were found with bite marks on their necks. I wrote them off though as I believed that was only more folklore crap. Many hours passed and as it was about to get dark, I finally had reached my destination, at least to the train station that is. The rest of my journey had to be on foot. It still didn't take that long to get there, suddenly it started to snow and I started to feel cold. Thankfully I had brought a winter coat with me as it was starting to get cold back home too.
I had arrived in this village where everything seemed quiet and dead in my opinion. The whole village looked damaged and destroyed as if this was an old battlefield from the war. I started to feel a bit uneven but I still walked towards the exit as then a huge medieval like castle came into view. I had gotten a hold of a picture of Castle Dimitrescu and it was a perfect match. I felt proud of myself as I was worried that I would get lost in the blizzard and end up freezing to death. When I had reached the main doors of the castle, I knocked on them hoping someone would open the door but after a few moments of waiting there I lost hope and just opened the door myself.
As I shut the door behind me and wiped the snow off my coat, I took my time to admire just how impeccable the foyer was. There was a picture of three women on the wall that read 'Bela, Daniela and Cassandra.' I was assuming that was their names. As I walked to the left and entered the main hall I was dumbfounded, the staircase and the huge flowerpots were an interesting part of the house. As I entered the dining room in the next door, I saw that the table was already set up, there were various types of food and beverages on the table. There was a note on the side of the table which read: "Dear Miss Nimra, please help yourself to any of these refreshments as I imagine you must be famished after your journey here. Lady D." I wasted no time and helped myself to a couple of ginger biscuits while pouring myself a cup of tea. The tea was still warm as if it was boiled just a moment ago. I had not packed that many snacks for the train journey here since that's the reason I was hungry.
A few minutes passed when all of a sudden, I heard the door slam. A woman with black robes and a pale white face appeared. I stood up in shock as I turned around to see the woman. "I'm sorry." I said to the woman. "I didn't hear you come in. My name is Miss Nimra." The woman seemed distressed as she replied to me in a flustered voice. "Please…" she whispered. "You must help me." I seemed confused. "Why?" I asked the woman. "Just please, you have to help me." Said the woman. The woman didn't seem to answer me back as she walked out of the room and into the main hall. "Please answer me." I said. "Why do you need my help?" "She is keeping me prisoner." Said the woman. "Who? Lady Dimitrescu?" I replied. "I'm afraid you must be more specific. The woman then seemed to look up onto the staircase and run away in fear.
As she ran off, I looked up and saw a tall figure standing at the top of the stairs. A tall woman with pale skin and a white dress and wearing a big hat appeared walking down the stairs. She was very tall, seemed to be around 8 foot tall or more. As this woman reached the bottom of the stairs, she began to spoke in a more heightened accent than that of the other woman. "Good evening Miss Nimra. I am Lady Dimitrescu. I hope you forgive me for not greeting you on your arrival." "Oh no. It's not a problem Lady Dimitrescu. I replied. "I would just like to say thank you for your hospitality in the dinning room." "Please call me Alcina, I only go by that name in more professional circumstances." She replied. "Oh, I see. Well it's nice to meet you Alcina." I said. "Please, let me show you to your room." Replied Alcina.
I went to pick up my suitcase but Lady D insisted that she take it up for me. "When can I start work?" I said to her. "As soon as you wish." Said Lady D. As she showed me to my bedroom, I took my time to look about. It was defiantly a lot warmer than out in the main hall as the fireplace had already been lit. "I must ask…" I said. "Do you know who that girl was?" "Oh that was my housekeeper you bumped into." Replied Lady D. "Please forgive her, she can be unnerving when there's strangers in the castle." "Oh. Okay." I said. As Lady D began to leave the room, she stopped to tell me one more thing. "I must also point out that you should make sure not to go down to the basement because it is not stable enough due to the age of the castle and you might seriously hurt yourself. I seemed a bit confused at first but I wanted to comply with the rules as much as I could. "Oh, of course Alcina." I replied. "Thank you." Lady D replied. "I must also tell you that I will be away for the night and won't return until sunrise." "Okay." I replied. "Goodnight Miss Nimra." Said Lady D. "Please, call me Amelia." I said. Lady D chuckled a bit. "Okay, goodnight Amelia." Said Lady D shutting the door behind her.
As I went to work on indexing the books in the library, I got curious and went to the basement, despite Lady D warnings not to go down there as I could hurt myself. I only went as far as the stairs and shone my lantern that I brought with me. As I shone all over the room I saw an open coffin in the centre of the room with three smaller coffins next to it. I shone my light on it and to my surprise the engraving on the front said 'Alcina Dimitrescu' I was shocked to the bone and ran out of the basement and back up to my room slamming the door behind me. Something was wrong, but what? Something inside me was wanting to find out the truth before sunrise.
