It's taboo for any previous Avatar who passed on to get directly involved with their descendants. However, the rule does allow that Avatar's past and future lives to intervene on their behalf.

Avatar Roku recognized the timeline had been gravely damaged when it came to his granddaughter and great-grandson. Those certain circumstances demanded to be altered. Or, as some say, "Right that which once went wrong."

Therefore there were two significant events that Kyoshi and Aang had to intercede discreetly to liberate Roku's cherished family members. They'd first persuade Zuko's actual father, Lu Ten, to step forward on his beloved's behalf. Second, to save their son from the Agni Kai and allow Ursa to fight on her son's behalf.

Plus, make certain Ozai and his mistress Shula failed in overthrowing the elder bloodline, thus helping plunge the royal line further into darkness. It was an odd moment being a ceremonial chamber. The chamber itself reminded you of a sacred temple of worship. Unseen by all were Kyoshi and Aang. Aang looked far more nervous then his legendary past life. Yet, she emitted a calm, confidant presence.

"So what do we have to do here? I don't understand why we're in a temple. Or what we have to do," Aang questioned with uncertainty.

"Patience, Aang. This is a turning point in Roku's descendants' lives. Therefore we must intervene discreetly. This is before the Siege of Ba Sing Sa. Our job is to give Prince Lu Ten the confidence he needs to be truthful with his family."

"Okay. How exactly are we supposed to do that? We're spirits ourselves in the shadows of the past."

"What we're about to do is a one-time deal for every Avatar. Where we can bend the rules without breaking them, for that we can temporarily possess others, this gives us the ability to speak through them, yet that is all. Now let's settle into the characters, shall we?" as the towering woman walked to an ensign and settled into her body.

Aang hesitated before settling into the body of another recruit. He prayed this wouldn't backfire on them. Since this was Roku's only shot at saving his beloved family. The two Avatars glanced around until they located who they were looking for. Hiding in a darkened corner were Ursa and Lu Ten. They were stealing a moment alone for a kiss.

"I don't wish you to leave for Ba Sing Sa, Lu Ten," whispered Ursa while caressing her lover's attractive features.

"You know there is a possibility I won't return, for everyone has that same chance they will die for their country. It's inevitable."

"I don't wish you to leave because I desire our son to know that bastard isn't his father.

You know Ozai's abuse has only amped up in the last several months. Also, I won't be declared a whore. I'm guilty of infidelity, yet so is he! I've known that since the day we married!"

"Yes, he's enamored with that sensual concubine, Shula. However, how can we tell Grandfather without it becoming a scandal?"

"Either way, the truth comes out, beloved. But, of course, it will be a scandal. We have to hope for the least amount of damage."

Kyoshi took that moment to intervene. "Pardon me. I wasn't attempting to eavesdrop. However, if I may?" she asked the alarmed couple. Kyoshi smiled reassuringly. "I'm not one to divulge another's secrets. However, I've constantly felt honesty is the best policy. Also, only justice can bring peace.

I believe if you request a private audience with the Fire Lord? Then at least it'd be kept between you three and no one else. Even the Fire Lord must honor what is said in his chamber remains there."

"Also," Aang spoke up, "We can watch out for Prince Ozai and this Shula while you speak with Fire Lord Azulon. Would that make you feel better?" The lovers were still apprehensive because they got caught. However, they agreed as they felt they could trust these two.

Now that they'd intervened here, they had to be ready for what transpired subsequently. Neither Kyoshi nor Aang knew how Azulon would respond. However, they still needed to stick around.

Lu Ten and Ursa were jarred to find out Azulon had already known the truth regarding their involvement for years. He also regretted not doing as his late wife asked by having them married.

Azulon told them there was nothing to forgive. Ozai had proven to be nothing but an SOB. Furthermore, he wouldn't harm either of them for finding love after Ursa suffered an abusive and loveless marriage to Ozai. That said? They still needed to handle the situation with Zuko, Iroh, and Ozai with discretion.

They headed back to the main temple area, where Kyoshi and Aang noticed Ozai chatting to a younger woman with thick glasses. Kyoshi informed Aang that the glasses were likely a disguise given they'd no frames.

As expected, when Zuko went to join his mother before Azulon could announce her divorce, Ozai shot a fireball towards Zuko—having figured it out at last. Ursa jumped in while surprising everyone she was a firebender. She never cared much for bending herself. But it was also something Lu Ten and her did discreetly in hopes of helping their beloved son Zuko.

Naturally, an Agni Kai was issued between husband and wife. If Ursa won, she could ultimately divorce Ozai then marry her true love. Ozai won? Then Ursa would be banished. Kyoshi had to restrain Aang and remind him they couldn't intervene directly. Ursa had to win this fight on her own. They'd merely given the couple enough courage to confess the truth.

However? This fight was out of their hands. Kyoshi saw plenty of Agni Kais with her lover Rangi over her extraordinary lifetime. Aang? He'd never honestly seen one, given as an Air Nomad? They abhorred violence. Instead, the two undercover Avatars yelled out encouragement, which inspired others to encourage Ursa as well. Ozai's monstrous behavior wasn't unknown. It was an open secret.

Ursa proved herself a genuine mother. Gone was the ordinary law-abiding wife. Now her true self? A strong, confident, and powerful young woman fought with the pride and power of a mother dragon. In the end? Ursa claimed victory, which left Ozai's mistress in shock. She couldn't help but wail loudly. This ruined everything regarding the "Ozai Maneuver!"

Ozai scowled at his mistress for blabbing about his secret plan to usurp the throne. Now that she'd stupidly blurted it out, both she and Ozai were led away in handcuffs, leaving Ursa free to marry her true love Lu Ten. Lu Ten had just quickly finished informing his father of the truth. Now all that was left for Zuko to learn his true heritage.

Smiling, the two Avatars knew they had completed their mission for their friend Roku. However, before they left to return, Ursa caught their hands and told them thanks. She even used their real names. Proving as a descendant of an Avatar, she instinctively knew who Avatar was. Kyoshi hugged Ursa reassuringly, as did Aang.

Smiling, the pair left, knowing things would turn out for the better now. May the future be bright, and don't waste your second chances!
