Short Stories – The Pumpkin
"No Maur." Jane said as she shook her head from side to side. "No, no, a thousand times no."
Jane continued to shake her head as Maura said, "But Jane." Maura was trying to reason with her wife.
"Don't but Jane me, Maur." Jane wasn't having any part of it. She didn't want to compromise on this. Her reputation in the neighborhood was at stake.
"I don't understand." Maura said as she gazed lovingly at Jane who was still shaking her head no.
"No, definitely no. No, no, no. As I just said a thousand times no." Jane continued to insist her answer was no.
"Jane." Maura pleaded as she reached over and grasped Jane's head in her hands. Mainly to get Jane to stop shaking her head from side-to-side. It was making Maura dizzy looking at her.
"Maur, no." Jane responded.
Maura, still holding Jane's head in her hands questioned, "Why?"
"Because, I said no. That should be good enough." Jane answered and she leaned forward to kiss Maura.
Maura kissed her back and said, "But why?" Maura tried to get Jane to answer her. She really wanted to do this and she didn't understand why Jane was so adamant. She dropped her hands from Jane's face as Jane pulled her in for a hug.
Jane gripped her tightly and said, "I … no I can't." Jane tried to explain.
"Why not?" Maura was determined to get an answer from Jane.
"I just can't Maur. I can't do that to us." Jane was pleading with Maura not to insist on this one. Jane had her best puppy dog eye look going and Maura wasn't having any part of it.
"I think it's cute, Jane." Maura said with the cutest smile that Jane had ever seen on her wife. She wanted to see that smile more often but not because of this. She loved her wife but not this. Maura tried to break the grip that Jane had on her. Jane just held onto her tighter.
Jane told Maura, "It's hideous, I can't allow that to be on our porch Maur."
"I want it to be on our porch with the others. TJ made it for us. You should be proud of it. Most Aunts would be proud of something their nephew made for them." Maura was trying to guilt Jane into going along with her on this. Maura was flashing her eyes at Jane now. She was still wrapped up in Jane's tight embrace.
"I am proud of him but I don't want to have that one on our porch. Can't we put it on the counter with the other small ones and put the nicer looking ones out on the porch?" Jane tried to convince Maura.
"Jane, you are discriminating against this one because it is not as cute as the other ones. That is not fair."
"Maur, it is not a person." Jane shifted her weight from one foot to the other.
"It deserves to be treated just like the other ones, Jane." Maura tried kissing Jane to get her way.
Jane kissed Maura back but was not giving in as she said, "But I don't want it on display, Maur."
"Because you think it is not nice looking?" Maura questioned Jane still trying to plead her case that she wants that one on the porch. Maura was now nipping at Jane's earlobe.
"Well, it is not his best work. I like the taller one better and I put the taller one on the porch. We have limited space and only so many can be on the porch. We don't want the homeowner's association to get after us again. You know what pain in the asses they can be." Jane explained as she tilted her head to the side to give Maura better access to her neck. Maura had moved from her earlobe to her pulse point on her neck and Jane was loving the attention.
"Jane, I don't care about the homeowner's association I care about TJ. I want him to see this one on our porch. It's like a place of honor. I want him to be proud of his work, don't you?" Maura continued to try and convince Jane as she continued to suck on her pulse point and nip at her earlobe.
"I do, I always want TJ to be proud of what he does and take pride in his accomplishments." Jane said with a smile thinking of how much fun they had with TJ making these and how much she was enjoying what her wife was doing to her right now.
"But you will refuse this one its proper placement on the porch. It deserves to be with his other two." Maura was not giving up. She wanted Jane to agree to place this one on the porch. She nipped harder on Jane's earlobe. Jane moved slightly as she felt a slight pain at that bite.
"Maur, you aren't being fair. That is not what I am saying?" Jane wasn't sure why they were still discussing this and not making out.
Maura had Jane's earlobe near her mouth as she said, "Yes, you are saying that. You think because it is not as beautiful as the other ones it should stay inside and not be put on display for the neighborhood to see."
"God Maur, you are making me sound mean." Jane frowned as best she could while feeling aroused by what Maura was doing to her.
"I'm not trying to make you sound mean, I am just trying to prove my point. We each made three and I want all of TJ's to be on the porch. We don't have a child of our own yet and the neighbors all know how we treat TJ as our own, so I want his work displayed. He is only three and for a three-year old I think he did a great job on them." Maura explained her thought process by whispering it in Jane's ear.
"Maur, I can't believe we are having such a deep conversation over this." Jane paused for a moment to relish in the feeling of Maura's warm breath in her ear and then continued, "I guess I could see how that could be seen as discrimination. If I display his work, I should display all of his work not just what appeals to me. He loves that one and had the most fun making that one." Maura smiled she got through to Jane. She will take her small victory.
"Okay can we put it out there now before TJ comes over?" Maura asked Jane. Maura couldn't help the smile that appeared on her face as she then continued to suck on Jane's pulse point.
"Yes, I will put this one on display on our porch." Jane said as she picked it up and broke their embrace so she could put it on the porch with the others. When she came back into the house Maura kissed her hard on the lips and said, "Thank you, Jane, now he will be here in about an hour and a half, how about I take you up to our bedroom and show you how much I appreciate you for the next hour." Jane smiled at the thought. She would have put TJ's other pumpkin out quite a while ago if she knew that she would be rewarded in such a great fashion from her wife.
Jane let Maura guide her to their bedroom so she could receive her appreciation gift. Jane thought, 'If this is my reward TJ's pumpkins can always be center stage on our porch. The hell with the neighborhood pumpkin display competition I didn't need to win it anymore I have something better, a loving wife that I adore.'
