A girl was brought into a room with an indoor swimming pool by two gun-wielding men. She wore a black outfit and a black mast over her face; she looked very much like a black cat.

"Get into da pool!" one of the men said.

She looked at it, then at them. "May I take my boots off, first?"

"Make it snappy!"

She unzipped and removed her black boots. Then she sat on the side of the pool and put her black stocking-clad feet into it. She began to slowly lower herself into the water. She was too slow for the men; one of them pushed her in. They both laughed.

"Da boss will be here soon," said the first man.

"I can wait!" she answered.

Again, they laughed.

A few minutes later, a man came into the room. He was small and squat; in fact here looked very much like a penguin. He smiled at the wet girl.

"Well, well, well, looks like I bagged a wet kitty! You may leave, boys."

"Sure, Boss." They left.

"Hello, Catwoman, nice to see you again! How's the water? She didn't respond. "We had a mutual agreement; you would let me have the Cat's-Eye Sapphire. Well, you're keeping it. I shoulda known you'd do that!"

"I like cats."

"And I like skinning cats—especially naughty ones! A fence has promised me $1,000,000 for it, so I want it!" Again, she said nothing. "I'll make a deal with you."

From a pocket in his suit, he brought out a cloth bag. "This has several of the jewels we stole together. I'll give you them in exchange for the sapphire, how about that?" She said nothing. "Where is it?" Still, she was silent. "You're funeral!"

On a nearby table was a radio with a long extension cord leading to an outlet on one of the walls. He turned it on; music started playing. Then he brought it over to the pool.

"Water and electricity don't mix—or so I hear!"

He waved the radio threateningly over the pool.

"Ok, Penguin, I'll tell you where it is!"

"That's better!" He backed away. "Where is it?"

Suddenly, one of the windows shattered—and down came a man. He wore a blue suit that made him look very much like a bat. Sizing up the situation, he quickly pulled the extension cord out of the socket, killing the music.

'This is a private party, Batman—I didn't invite you!" said Penguin.

"I invited myself!" he said.

"Well, let me bring along some guests!"

He pulled out a beeper and pressed it; the two men entered the room again.

Batman looked at them. "Three against one; the odds are in my favor!"

Catwoman quickly got out of the pool. "Three against two!"

Batman smiled. "Even better!"

PUNCH! KICK! WHAM! OOF! OW! SPLASH! HIT! RAM! SPLAT! KILL!

In the end, the two men were incapacitated, and Penguin ran out of the room.

During the fight, Batman and Catwoman fell into the pool. They dragged the bodies of the passed-out men out of the water, then got out.

"I never thought I'd say this, but thanks, Batman!"

"You owe me one, Catwoman!"

Catwoman picked up her boots. They sat in chairs that were on the side and she put the boots back on.

"You fight really well, even barefooted."

"Thanks, Batman. I trained in karate, which is done barefooted."

"Ok, I've got some bad news, and some good news. First, the bad news:"

He unzipped a pocket in his suit and pulled out—the Cat's Eye Sapphire! She looked at it in shock.

"I knew you'd want it. So, I had the shop impregnate it with a special tracking device."

"Damn! Ok, what's the good news?"

"You're free to go."

This shocked her even more. "Huh?"

"It was really the penguin I wanted. He should be in Commissioner Gordon's hands right now. And just to assure you of this, we will leave this room together."

"Well, we'd better get going!"

He put the gem back in the pocket and zipped it back up. The two of them faced each other—and hugged and kissed.

"I'll bet you don't often go swimming with your clothes on!" he said.

She smiled. "Nope!"

And then, he reopened the pocket to check on the sapphire; it was still there.

"You don't trust me, Batman?"

"Not completely," he admitted.

They left the room together.

As Batman predicted, the Penguin was already in the hands of Commissioner Gordon and his boys. Batman gave Gordon the gem and had a word with him. True to his promise, he encouraged Gordon to let Catwoman go—and he did it.
