Miss Zira Grim was about to enter her first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

She was currently in Diagon ally getting school supplies and anything else she might need for that year. Her father was a well standing Auror in the Ministry of Magic, her mother a seamstress for the higher end of the wizarding world. The Grims were primarily a pure blood family, though they never encouraged the younger generations to follow that standard.

Zira was holding an armful of things when someone walked face first into her, spilling all of their supplies onto the ground. Zira rushed to pick things up, "Sorry!" The boy she had bumped into was also trying to pick his things up, "It was my fault. Sorry about all this."

they got their things sorted and she held out a hand to him, "I'm Zira."

He shook her hand with a smile, "I'm Harry. Harry Potter."

"Wicked!"

a booming voice made her look up and she saw a huge man beaming down at them, "Hello Zaden. Harry this is Mr Zaden Grim and his family." Zira's father smiled down at Harry and extended his hand, "an honor Mr Potter," he then looked at the man, "Hello Hagrid. Odd to see you away from Hogwarts this close to the school year starting."

Hagrid beamed down at Harry, "I'm helping young Harry here get his school supplies." Zira smiled at them, "are you a first year as well Harry?"

He nodded, "that's right."

"Blimey, I forgot your youngest was Harry's age."

Zaden put a gentle hand on his daughters shoulder, "This is Zira. With any luck she'll be a bit more behaved than Zeref was."

Zira gave an embarrassed huff then perked up, "have you finished your shopping Harry?"

"uh, I think so."

She looked up at her parents and then at Hagrid, "can we go to the sweets shop?"

"It's alright with me so long as you behave."

Hagrid patted Harry on the back, "might do you some good to make friends before school. I have something to take care of for school. I'll meet you there."

Harry smiled wide and followed Zira through the street to a shop where he could have sworn a lollipop floated out the door past him. Zira hadn't said anything about it though so he kept quiet. Zira had no hesitation to make friends and she was genuine about everything. Harry was eating an ice cream when he finally plucked up the courage to ask her what had been on his mind, "Zira, is that a normal hair color for your family?"

Zira shrugged at it, "yeah, all of the main line in my family has it. That and our eye color. I don't really know why it's a trait of ours though to be honest."

Zira, like her father sported startling Silver hair with flecks of black on the ends and an almost eerie shade of silver eyes. Zira was used to people mentioning it a lot though usually it was behind her back. Hagrid found them a few minutes later and she listened to Hagrid tell Harry something about a creature at school. She felt shy but wanted to know just in case, "Hagrid?" He looked down at her in a kind way, "Yes?"

"Do you really work with Thestrals?"

"That I do. I wondered if you'd ask about that. Your brother Zeref always liked comin down to see em."

They talked for a while longer and then patted ways so she could get her wand.

Olivander was excited to see the little group walk in, "Ah the Grims. I was wondering when I'd see you again."

Her father greeted him and made Zira stand up to the counter where Olivander had a wand waiting. She picked it up gently as he spoke, "Perhaps something like your mother, Chestnut wood with Unicorn hair." She flicked the wand gently and fucked as a box flew at her. He took the wand back gently and handed her another, "Then perhaps like your father. Ash wood and Dragon heart string."

Once again she flicked the wand and the mirror behind Olivander shattered. He thought for a moment after taking the wand back and went off into the back. She looked at her dad who smiled encouragingly at her until Olivander came back. He handed her a slender wand, "Holly wood and Dragon heart string." She didn't need to flick it this time as the air swirled and a single blue butterfly flew from the tip of the wand. Olivander smiled at her, "an odd paring I must say but never the less, I expect you will do great things with that wand Miss Grim." She put it in her pocket and they paid him for the wand. She spotted Harry and Hagrid, mostly just Hagrid, in the crowd again. she tugged on her mother's arm, "can't Harry stay with us until School? Please mum, his aunt and uncle are terrible to him! please!" Her mother gave her a look then looked at her father who rolled his eyes, "Take it up with Hagrid first." She rushed off and managed to take hold of Harry's arm before they got to far away. He looked at her shocked and then looked up at Hagrid, "can Harry stay with us Hagrid? Please!" Hagrid beamed down at them, "well I can't rightfully say no now can I? Give you a good excuse not to go back to your aunt and uncle's." Harry got very excited and Zaden worked out the details before taking them home. Zira showed Harry around and they became fast friends.

They ran into the Weasley family on the way to the platform and she introduced Fred and George to Harry as they talked. The twins had waged a prank war against her after they got to school and her father warned her to behave herself. On the train they found an empty compartment and sat down to talk. Ron joined them later and they laughed at his pet rat.

A girl came into the car asking about a toad and stopped to watch Ron try a spell. Coming from Fred and George it wasn't a huge surprise that it didn't work. She fixed Harry's glasses and introduced herself as Hermione Granger. She looked Zira over after getting excited about Harry and spoke as if almost afraid, "You're related to one of the founders aren't you?". Zira shrugged at that, "I'm not supposed to talk about it really. We don't much care for that side of the family." Ron spoke through a grin and a mouthful of licorice wand, "Only after your uncle went mad and vanished in the school." She threw an empty candy box at him, "Shut up Ron." Harry gave a puzzled look, "Can people go missing at school?" Zira glared at Ron, "Not technically no. My uncle was a special case though and we don't talk about him either. Supposedly he went mad looking for something in the hidden vaults at school, when the staff told him to stop looking he ran into one of the vaults and was never seen again. See, no one knows where the vaults are so it was impossible to find him plus that was over 50 years ago. There's no reason to talk about it anymore." Hermione shifted away from Zira all the same, "I Should go, and you had best change into your robes, I expect we'll be arriving soon."

The ride was filled with laughter until reaching the station where they followed Hagrid to the boats. All of the other first years were rather shocked to see Hagrid who smiled down at Harry.

From there they walked into the castle and had to wait to be led into the great hall. Draco made his introduction to Harry who wanted no part of this blond git whom had insulted his new friend. Zira had no problem knocking Draco down a size as her father was above his father at the Ministry. It wasn't until getting into the Great Hall that things got interesting. One by one they were called up and Zira did her best to calm down the boy named Neville until it was his turn. As fate would have it, Zira was dead last on the list. she was already walking up to the stool as McGonagall said her name, the second her name was said the lights in the Hall went out and thunder boomed as the doors were thrown open. Zira turned to look at the doors but saw nothing. Anyone who was looking at her swore that her eyes seemed to be almost glowing in the darkness. Dumbledore waved his hands and passed off the incident as just lightning despite no one being convinced of it. Zira sat down and the hat slid over her eyes so she was encased in darkness. the hat moved on it's own and muttered every now and then, "Oh yes, Difficult. Could belong anywhere."

10 minutes passed and finally they all had to admit that she had caused a hat stall. Not all that rare but it was hard to deal with. She finally gave a sigh of annoyance and muttered under her breathe, "just put me in his house."

The hat hummed about it for a moment, "are you sure?"

"if it gets this to be over with faster then yes. Absolutely."

"Interesting. Very well then."

It called out to the Hall "Slytherin."

the Slytherin students clapped and she sat next to a cousin of hers after giving Harry and Ron, whom both had disappointed looks, an apologetic look at being placed in a different house. Dumbledore gave out his announcements and the feast began.

Somehow, Zira, couldn't shake the feeling that she was being watched from somewhere in the room and finally had to make herself believe that she was being paranoid.

The walk to the common room was a quick one and once there she and all the other first years wrote their letters home telling their parents what house they were in and went to bed ready to start their first year at Hogwarts.
