Frog Girl in a Frog World - Episode 1: Frog Or Beast?
It was a warm and good night in the valley, Wally just finishes his time at the Stimpy Diner, after walking about and accidentally bumped into some barrels, he set his path to go home, playing his musical instrument along the way.
For a moment he didn't care about anything since the path was lovely and peaceful, he had no fear that nothing will pop out and eat him.
Until he heard a noise, a twig snapping.
It jumped the frog, stopping at his track and stopped playing.
"Hello?" he nervously said, aware that there are many dangerous within these woods, many creatures that are both deadly and dangerous, the snapping of a twig shaken him.
He looked around, seeing if there are any monsters. All he could see in the dark woods, and the night.
Suddenly, there were movements on the track, Wally squeal from the sudden movements, he doesn't know what it is or where it is, but he knows that it's nearby.
He tried to keep going through the path, hoping that it was nothing, just in his head.
Then suddenly, something jumped in the middle of the path.
In his perspective, the dark figure was crouching, then it stood up, revealing to be a very tall figure, with hideous appearances.
All he can do is scream.
It was an average day for Sprig.
Being looked over by Hop Pop and being taken to a local area to get some supplies, he was nearly boarding being dragged around just so that Hop Pop can look out for him. He was sitting in his slug cart next to his young sister Polly.
He smiled looking around to see the town, where frogs were doing their usual stuff, there wasn't anything interesting, with the only unusual thing was a frog getting taken away by a giant fly. But he already saw that about two times.
The cart then came to a full stop, as they arrived at their destination.
"Alright, kids," Hop Pop said, turning to face Sprig and Polly. "I'm doing a little shopping, you watch the cart."
Hearing that from Pop excited Sprig, he jumped out and stand on the edge of the cart, "you got it Hop Pop, I'll defend this cart with my life!" he gave a great shout, feeling fully energetic towards the task.
"Sprig, I was talking to Polly," Hop Pop said, which quickly killed off Sprig's excitement.
"What?" he questioned Pop, "Polly's a baby."
"You're a baby." Polly snapped back to her brother.
"Polly has more responsibility in her flipper than you have in your entire body"
"Ridiculous," Sprig tried to argue, denying that he isn't capable to keep an eye on the cart. "what makes you think I'm irresponsible?"
"Oh Gee," Hop Pop said in a sarcastic tone, "let me think, you blew up my cooking, broken my bedroom wall trying to ride on a cowtapillar and forgotten to turn off the lights, causing fireflies to sworn on our house."
"And how long was that?" the boy frog said.
"Sprig, you have done all that, yesterday."
"Okay, so yesterday was a bad day" Sprig tried to shrug it off. But Hop Pop had a crossed face, grabbing his bag and leaving the cart, not fully trusting Sprig.
"Polly, make sure Sprig stays in the cart." He said before entering the first shop.
Sprig gave a deep sigh, he realized that sometimes he can mess things up, causing problems, he stayed remained in the cart, trying to think how he can able to control himself. "wish there was a way to prove I'm not such a goof up."
After he said that, he heard a scream.
Sprig and Polly's attention turn to see who was crying out. They saw Wally running out of tall grass and into the town, this also caught the attention of the locals.
"Monster!" he cried out, which caught Sprig's attention, he learns over the cart, trying to follow the rules of staying in the cart, while the locals gather to hear Wally.
"There's a monster in the woods, I have seen it, I've seen it!"
People started to chatter about what Wally said, "now shimmer down Wally" a large frog tried to calm down the situation and Wally, "just tell us what you saw."
Wally didn't calm down, but he quickly explained, "it was horrifying, it looked nearly like us, but it has a huge head with a long green tail on the back of her head, long spending legs, and long five-fingered hands."
The blue frog tried to show an example using a leaf, sticks and grass to show the image of the monster. This caused the locals to jump from the idea of the monster roaming around.
The large frog, knowing about the monster, decided to take action, "we better catch this beast before it hurts somebody because for Mayor Toadstool, your safety comes first" he announces while he is promoting himself. Everyone clapped towards their mayor
After watching Wally explaining about a beast, Sprig smiled, "Polly, I just have a great idea." He said, with Polly turning to his brother, being concerned, Sprig resumes "I'm going to catch that beast and save the town."
This caused Polly to follow what Hop Pop said, "Stop right there" she pulls out her small hand before Sprig could jump out of the cart. "Hop Pop said that you have to stay in the cart. Polly then show off her arms as if she had big muscles shouting, "you know you can't take me!"
However, Sprig knows that Polly is just a baby, he had an idea to counter her, "Polly look" he then pulls some bug-like candy out of his jacket, "Candy." He then drops them onto the floor.
Polly looks down at the sweets, she suddenly changed her mind "Bribe accepted!" she said as she jumps out of her bucket and proceeds to eat the candy.
Meanwhile, Sprig jumps out of the cart, "alright," he said, "let the monster hunt, begin!"
While running away from the cart, Polly gave a small tip for her brother, "don't die!"
Sprig ventured through the woods, feeling brave and bold to try and track down this monster that Wally talked about. He jumped on every branch, go through every spot he could find, all hopes to find.
After a while of searching, he stumbles upon a clue, he looked at the ground and found a footprint, an unusual footprint.
"Seems like the beast roams these parts." He said. "probably a good place for a trap."
He suddenly heard a thud, he quickly turns to the direction of the noise, "who's there?" he said, arming his slingshot towards the direction.
But all in the sudden, he was quickly caught and dragged away, he screamed while being pulled away, he didn't have enough time to think or react until the forced stopped and he finds himself hanging in the air.i
Sprig looked around, he didn't see anything but the forest, he looked down to see what he's trapped in, it appears as a pink slimy rope, he struggled to get out but to no avail, he looked at where the rope is coming from, start by looking up, he notices the rope is hanging onto a tree branch, but it wasn't tied up, instead, it was attached to a figure.
The frog gasped looking at the figure as it jumps down, landing on the ground legs and arms first before standing up straight.
"Finally someone else, ribbit," the figure said, talking while its tongue is sticking out.
Sprig looked at the stranger's appearance, it matches the same descriptions Wally gave, it had long legs, big five finger-hands and a giant head. It clicked the young frog to realise that this figure was the beast.
He looked at this figure, the face having similar features of an average frog but the body shape is completely different, what Wally said about the tail was almost correct, it had a dark green long hair that has leaves and a twig tangled up. The beast was wearing clothing though, it had a light green shirt over a long-sleeved striped in a mix of white and green, along with blue shorts that go down to the top part of its knees and short grey socks.
After looking at the figure's appearance, he pointed directly at it, shouting "the beast!"
"Oh," the beast said, "not you too."
"I have bad news for you, beast, I taste terrible!"
The beast sighed, with a slight feeling of being disgusted, "I am not going to eat you."
"You tried to eat Wally."
"The blue frog?" it replied, "I tried to ask for help, but the second he saw me, he screams calling me a beast and a monster."
Sprig thought for a moment, "yeah, that sound like Wally."
Suddenly, the thud came back, but additionally, there was a distant scream, both the beast and Sprig looked at the direction, noticing the grass moving much more with taller weeds being cut down.
"We have to go," the beast said, as it quickly jumps over the branch where its tongue was, dropping Sprig onto the ground, but still captive by the hold, "what's going on? What is that?" he said, struggling to break free from the beast gasp.
He looked at the beast, it was looking around, finding a place to hide from the unknown threat, until they saw a hollow fallen tree trunk, with a big hole, large enough for Sprig and the beast to hide in, the figure had no hesitation but to jump straight in the trunk.
The two hid inside the trunk, the beast taking breaths while holding Sprig's mouth, trying to stay hidden from the threat.
Then the threat was there.
Both the beast and Sprig turn to see through the open holes of the trunk, seeing a big red mantis roaming through the woods, their heartbeats repeated but calmed down when the mantis went away.
"That was a close one, ribbit" the beast sighed, before turning to someone new, "okay, I am going to let go of you, promise that you're not going to run away or scream." The boy frog nodded his head, knowing what it said, as it gave a slight smile, "okay, going to let go, now."
The beast then quickly pulled back its tongue, freeing Sprig from its hold.
The first thing he did is stare at the beast, frightened yet confused, it knew about the giant red mantis and not only run away but brought him with it, could it be that this beast isn't bad? After all, it freed him from its captivity.
"Thank you, first of all," Sprig said, this time in a nice manner, "you got a name?"
"The name's Asui," the beast said its name, "Asui Tsuyu."
"I'm Sprig Plantar," the frog boy said his name to the new stranger, he then holds out his hand for a handshake.
It's been less than two days since Tsuyu Asui ended up in this strange new world, she struggled for survival, encountering many dangers and threats on this world, it wasn't like her world where everything is civil there aren't any humans on this world.
She tried to find at least someone, last night, she managed to find a blue frog wearing clothes. at first, she thought it was someone with a mutant quirk that made him resemble more of a frog than she is.
But when she tried to talk to the blue frog, it was scared of her, calling her a monster and running away, an indication that these frogs are actual talking frogs.
And now, she managed to find another frog named Sprig, who tried to find her in the first place, calling her a beast as well.
After their greeting and knowing each other' names, Sprig put out a hand, Asui pulled out her and gave him a handshake.
She then hears her stomach rumble, she was feeling hungry, since she arrived in this world, she didn't find anything to eat, or at least anything edible, "Sprig-kun," she started to her new friend, "do you have anything to eat?"
"Sure do," he said, lifting a bark of wood from the trunk, revealing a swarm of big bugs, Sprig quickly ate one with his tongue.
While for Asui, she wasn't very keen on what she saw, sure, she like eating flies, if there's any flying about, she would take one and eat it as any frog would, but that's the only insects she would eat, any other insect would be gross for her.
"Anything else? Not bugs?" she said.
"No bugs eh?" Sprig said, closing the bark of wood. "we have to hunt around a bit" the young frog then runs out of the "follow me Asui."
The Human frog follows the little frog. Since there are no monsters, it's safe to go out, she looked at Sprig, feeling a mixed sense of trust and distrust, she wasn't sure about the frog, but she was desperate.
"This can't be real," Asui thought towards her new reality, "it's like I'm in some sort of Isekai Light novel, appearing in a different world that's completely different to mine, I'm amazed that it's happening right before my eyes."
She started to walk with Sprig, hoping to find food, she's starving.
After a wander of picking and collecting collection of mushrooms, Sprig poured it all down onto the ground, Asui looked down at the mushrooms, first being unsure about them, she remembers that most mushrooms can be poisonous, but if Sprig chose them, then it is likely that it's editable.
She took a risk.
She bent down, picked up one and take a bite to see if it's good.
After the bit, the taste was good, she doesn't know if it's because she's hungry and didn't eat anything for over a day or if it was good, but at least there's something to eat.
"Thank you, Sprig-Kun" Asui politely said as she munches on another mushroom.
Sprig nodded, being so curious of the person in front of him, "so, first question" he started, "whattheheckareyouandwheredoyoucomefrom?"
Asui paused, staring at the young frog, she gulps the mushroom in her mouth and thought about an answer.
"Well… I'm a frog."
It was a dumb answer, she realized that Sprig was also a frog, it would confuse him.
"Not at is you as a frog, I'm a human being with a frog quirk, ribbit."
"A frog quirk?" Sprig made a confused face.
"Of course," Asui mentally sighed, "he doesn't know anything about quirks. Better explain it to him."
"It's a special thing human have where I'm from, not all humans look like me, I just happen to look like a frog."
"Okay…" Sprig said, almost understanding the frog girl, "but where did you come from?"
Asui looked around the place, "judging from the environment and your lack of knowing what a quirk is, it's safe to say that I'm from a different world."
"Wow," Sprig was amazed, knowing that there is someone who comes from a different place, but it brings another question, "so do you know how you got here."
"I don't know" Asui answered, having suspicions from her experiences but doesn't bring it up to Sprig, "one minute I was with my friend after shopping, the next, I ended up here."
The frog girl turns to her new friend, trying to change the subject, "so, are there any other frogs around here?" she asked.
"Oh yeah," he answered, "there's a local town not far... from here…"
At that moment, Sprig realized something.
He went out to try and find a beast, but it ended up being a different and friendly, frog-human named Asui, he knows because he saw her and talked to her, but everyone else? They don't know because all they know is that she was a beast.
"There it is!"
In a sudden move, both Asui and Sprig were surrounded by a group of angry frog mobs, holding torches and pitchforks.
"Ribbit?" Asui said, surprised by the ambush, she didn't have enough time to jump out of the crowd, he was then attacked by all sides.
"No!" Sprig shouted, trying to stop the mob, but to no avail, "she's not a monster!"
But it was too late, the mob completely tie Asui up with rope, she struggled to break free, she doesn't know what to do, she felt betrayed by her new friend, "Sprig, what's happening! What's the meaning of this?" she looked at the young frog, feeling a mixture of anger and sadness.
"Asui, this wasn't me, I didn't know…"
But before he continued, Hop Pop and Polly appeared laughing and feeling proud of the young frog boy, "well done" Pop said, "you caught the monster! Sprig, I'm impressed."
"For the last time, Ribbit, I am not a monster!" the human-frog shouted, as she felt very betrayed by all the frogs, especially Sprig.
But before he could say anything, another big thud was heard by all the frogs, everyone turns around to hear a screech from the monstrous creature.
In a sudden jump, a giant green mantis screech towards the group of frogs.
"Everyone hurry," the Mayor shouted from looking at the creature, "Mantis formation."
The frogs who were part of capturing Asui then jump on one another creating a triangle tower with the one on the top reaching his arms up to be in the same height as the Mantis.
the Mantis then looked up and slowly backed away.
The frogs cheered
"We did it" Hop Pop, who wasn't part of the stack celebrated as the rest of the frogs cheered, "we scared it off!"
"Uh guys," Asui said as she noticed a much bigger red mantis jumping out and landing behind the group, causing everyone to stop their cheering.
"Nope, that scared it off," Polly said, with Pop agreeing, "yeah that makes more sense."
The Red Mantis then attacks the frogs, causing the stacked frogs to jump off and run away from the monster.
While this was happening, Sprig rushed towards Asui and ripped the rope as fast as possible. Once freed, the frog human smiled, "thank you," she said.
"You get out of here, I'll distract that thing," Sprig said as he runs towards the red mantis.
The boy frog grabbed a pebble and used his slingshot towards the Mantis, already giving him attention.
"Sprig-kun is going to get hurt," Asui said as she witnesses the Mantis raising its arm.
She had to do something, she couldn't watch someone get hurt, she had to save him, she had to become a hero.
Before the Mantis could strike Sprig, Asui rushed in grab hold of the Mantis arm, she uses as much strength as she could against the Mantis, but she couldn't hold much longer.
"Sprig, the rope!" the frog girl shouted.
"Oh yeah," the boy frog said as he quickly grabbed the roped that once tied Asui down, now used against the Mantis. Sprig went around the Mantis, he then jumps on one arm then over the other, the Mantis attention shifted, letting go of Asui and trying to attack Sprig. But the boy frog was too fast, as he jumps around the frog until the rope was all over the mantis.
Once finished he jumps near Asui and shouted "pull," as the frog girl grabbed hold of the rope and tied up the Mantis tight, causing it to tumble over in defeat.
In the aftermath of the Mantis fight, the frogs who fled went out of their hiding spots, amazed that a frog and a beast managed to defeat the monster.
The two, on the other hand, felt proud of what they accomplished.
"That was good teamwork, Asui" Sprig turn to his new strange friend.
"Please, call me Tsu." The frog girl, accepting Sprig to be her new friend, both of them sharing smiles.
"Well, now that is settled" the Mayor spoke up, as he, along with other frogs walked up towards the two, "what the heck are we going to do with this thing."
Asui felt a bit crossed towards, she stopped the mantis and still called a thing, she wanted to call out that she isn't a monster or beast, but then in a more realization that she would be different from everyone else.
"Maybe we should run it out of town, just to be safe, let it be someone else's problem," the frog mayor said to the crowd, letting them run towards the frog girl. Asui was about to run away, knowing that she isn't wanted in this place.
"Stop right there!" Sprig jumps between the mob and Asui. "she is not a monster, she's just lost and needs out help, we should take care of her."
For once ever since she arrived in this world, there wasn't a single person who tried to be nice for her, the rest of the frogs call her a monster or a beast, but Sprig is the only one who understood her situation, she smiles towards her new friend while making a 'ribbit' noise.
However, this doesn't convince the mob.
"Are you crazy?" the Mayor said, with Wally following in agreement, "yeah, what if it goes nutsy and starts eating people"
"I will, never eat a frog," Asui replied, as she saw that being a form of cannibalism, as she's no cannibal.
"Don't worry yourselves silly" Hop Pop stepped in, walking towards the two. "I'll keep an eye on them, both of them."
"Hmm," the Mayor frog thought, but he was tired of the whole thing, he just want the beast thing resolved, he made his decision, "have it your way Hopidiah Plantar but I don't like it."
And with that, the Mayor frog and the mob walk away from the Plantars and Asui, while the mob tugged the Mantis away, mentioning of cooking the monster later.
Once the mob is gone, Sprig started to feel sad, "looks like I'm back causing trouble for the family"
"trouble?" Hop Pop turn towards the boy frog, "Sprig, standing up to that angry mob and help this half-frog creature out was some of the bravest and most responsible stuff I ever seen."
"That was pretty cool Sprig," Polly said to her brother. "It was also very dumb."
"Yep, really, really dumb" Pop added to Polly's comment.
Sprig, however, take it from being responsible.
"Um excuse me, ribbit," Asui cut the conversation, "do you know a way out of this place? I need to find my friend and go back to my world."
"oh, if you're looking a way out of the valley, that would be a problem" Hop Pop then pull a map out of his coat pocket and reveal an image of the valley, "this here valley is surrounded by mountains that are impenetrable in this time of year."
"It should clear up a couple of months." Sprig said towards the mountain problem.
"Until then, if you try to go through those mountains, you are unlikely to survive"
Asui then looked at the map, giving a big sigh, knowing that she would be stuck in this world for two whole months, if this world and her world follows the same time, she would be expelled from U.A due to a large gap of absence in her attendance.
But she's also worried about her friend if she's still out there, then that means she would be in danger, if she's outside the valley, then she can't do anything for the next two months.
"So be it." Asui accepted the fact.
After the incident and Hop Pop accepting to take care of Asui, they travelled back to their home, Asui went to grab her duffle bag she had when she entered this strange new world, during the night, she kept it safe from danger, with the Plantars accepting Asui to their home, she got her stuff and travelled to their place.
Upon arrival, the human frog girl took a look at the place, it was a tall house surrounded by farm fields and a swamp at the back. Hop Pop then gave Asui a thin, rolled-up mattress and led her towards the basement of the house.
Switching on the lights, Asui looked around to see an empty room with barrels, boxes, a furnace and a green tree grown through the house.
"All right, kitchens upstairs, breakfast at sunrise, sharp"
Asui turns to see Hop Pop, who was climbing up the ladder towards the basement exit, she then proceeds to get herself settled, rolling out her mattress for a place to sleep and placing her duffle bag at the side.
"Hey, getting comfy?" Asui turns around as she heard Sprig, who was at the top of the basement ladder, holding a bunch of colourful toys throwing them on the basement floor.
"I brought some toys to keep your company, I'm too old for these" Sprig offered as he picked up one of the toys, "oh, except from this one of course" he then grabbed another one, "oh and this one" then repeats once more until he grabbed all of the toys.
Asui couldn't help but giggle towards the boy liking of his toys, it reminded her so much of her younger siblings, seeing Sprig as much of her brother.
"I'm so glad that you're living with us, Tsu," Sprig said, holding all of his toys.
"Thanks" Asui answered as the frog boy climb up the stairs.
"Okay, good night, sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite," he then reached the top, only leaving one toy dropped, he then appeared once more, "seriously, they can drain a body in seconds."
With Sprig gone, the frog girl took another deep breath, her attention turns to her duffle bag, which contains most of her stuff, but it was one item, in particular, she focused on. The very thing she got before arriving in this new world.
A box
The box that contains decals of a swamp and a frog, along with three grey gems.
"Please work," she muttered as she opened the box.
Only for nothing to happen.
Asui looked inside the box, only to see nothing inside the box.
"looks like I'm going to be here for a while." Asui sighed, while she lost hope that she couldn't return to her own world now, she hoped that one day, there would be a way to return home.
For now, she is a frog girl, stuck in a frog world.
