Hello and welcome to the first chapter of Pokemon Delta Emerald. This is my first story submitted on FanFiction so I hope I get some good feedback. I plan to upload every weekend, most likely on sundays unless something happens in real life. Anyways enjoy the first episode of Pokemon Delta Emerald.
Ryan sat in the back of the moving truck as it drove to Littleroot Town. He was a little angry that his father had uprooted them from the Johto region to accept some job. He had just turned fifteen and would have to restart socially. Ryan was just hopeful he could start his Pokémon journey soon as he dreamed of being the best. The van stopped suddenly as it lurched forward sending him flying.
"Ow!" Ryan yelled.
The back opened revealing the bright light of Littleroot town. His mother Darla Hoffman stood outside of the moving truck as she was so excited to see her son.
"Ryan did you have a good trip with the packages?" Darla asked.
"I guess..." Ryan said shrugging.
"What's the matter sweetheart?"
Ryan stepped out the back as he grabbed his book bag. Ryan followed his mother in the house where Machoke were moving boxes into rooms. Ryan sat down at the new kitchen table looking at the photos of his family. He had a grown to dislike his dad as he was too serious for him.
"So Ryan what's wrong?" Darla asked again.
"I just hate how dad uplifted us from our home. I was expected to go on my journey through Johto not here," Ryan answered.
"Ryan your father took this gym leader job to better us. I'm sure you can start your journey in Hoenn just fine," Darla explained.
"Mom I have no friends to hang out with as well," Ryan said.
"Well I say you go up to your room and set it up the clock and then introduce yourself to the neighbors. I know they have a kid around your age."
Ryan nodded as he knew he wanted his room a certain way. He walked up the stairs and went right into his room as he saw a clock that wasn't set up yet. He looked at the time on his computer and set his clock accordingly.
"I guess I should introduce myself to the neighbors," Ryan said to himself.
Ryan ran down the steps as he almost bumped into the Machoke moving the furniture. He ran out into the fresh air as he looked around the small town. He saw the house next to him as he assumed that the neighbors were home. He knocked on the door and waited for a response as a little boy with brown hair and glasses answered the door.
"Who are you?" the boy asked.
"I'm the new neighbor who are you?" Ryan asked.
"I'm Max Birch," Max said.
"Is your mother or father home?" Ryan asked.
"Dad's in the field doing some research. Mom!" Max called out.
A plump woman with light brown hair came to the door as she looked out at their guest. She rushed seeing the new neighbor.
"You must be Ryan! I'm Brenda Birch. How was the trip to Littleroot?" Brenda asked.
"It was fine maybe a little bumpy," Ryan said.
"Well that's great. You should visit my daughter May. She's upstairs right now."
Ryan nodded as he walked up the stairs which were very similar to his house. Ryan saw a girl with light brown hair and beautiful blue eyes. She wore a red tank top and black spandex shorts as she heard the door open. Ryan was caught red handed staring at her.
"What are you staring at?" May asked angrily.
"Oh nothing... sorry I'm the new kid. I'm just nervous meeting you is all," Ryan admitted.
May laughed as she didn't realize that he was new to town. She went up to him and extended her hand to him.
"May Birch is the name. What's your name?" May asked.
Ryan shook her hand as he looked into her beautiful blue eyes. He was nervous as could be as he thought she looked pretty good.
"Ryan Hoffman. My dad is the newest gym leader in Hoenn," Ryan answered.
"Wow so you're dad is Norman then? I heard my dad mention him," May said.
"Wow that's cool. So what does your dad do?"
"My dad is a Pokémon professor."
Ryan nodded as he realized that he must have been out researching Pokémon right now.
"Well it was nice meeting maybe we could hang out sometime later?" Ryan asked.
"Yeah sure that would be fun," May said.
Ryan nodded as he said goodbye to May. He was glad to finally get to a new friend as he walked back outside. He decided to go see the route up ahead when he heard someone screaming. A little boy was rushing around as he wondered what was going on. He ran up to the boy who was in a frenzy.
"What's wrong?" Ryan asked.
"I don't know but someone is in trouble!" the boy said.
Ryan nodded as he ran out to Route 101. Ryan just hoped he would be able to reach whoever was in trouble on time.
#
Ryan reached the source of the screaming as he saw a man in a lab coat being chased by a ravenous Poochyena. Ryan saw the Poochyena corner the man as Ryan approached the situation with caution.
"You young man! Help me!" the man yelled.
"I don't have any Pokémon to help," Ryan said.
"In my bag there's three Pokémon to choose from. Hurry!" the man cried out.
Ryan ran to the bag as he checked out the three balls. He picked the one with the fire symbol as he released the Pokémon. Out came a fire type chicken Pokémon. The Poochyena focused it's attention as Ryan was about to start his first Pokémon battle.
"Torchic I've always wanted one," Ryan said.
Torchic called out to the Poochyena as the two stared each other down. Ryan was ready as he knew the basics of Pokémon battles from his dad.
"Torchic use ember!" Ryan called out.
Torchic attacked and spit out a pellet of embers as the Poochyena was hit. It retaliated with a tackle as Torchic cried out in pain.
"Torchic you okay?" Ryan asked.
Torchic got up and nodded as it still had a decent amount of health left. Torchic stared it's opponent down as he waited for it's new trainer's next command.
"Torchic finish him off with ember!" Ryan ordered.
Torchic fired it's embers as it hit the Poochyena. The Poochyena realized it wouldn't win this fight and ran off injured as Ryan was excited he even survived intact. The man in the lab coat ran up to him and hugged him.
"Thank you for saving me! I thought I was a goner for sure!" the man said.
"No problem sir. You wouldn't happen to be Professor Birch would you?" Ryan asked.
"In fact I am. You must be Norman's kid?" Professor Birch asked.
"I am. I met you're daughter earlier," Ryan said.
"Ah yes she's supposed to meet me at my lab to choose a new Pokémon that I got," Professor Birch explained.
They began to walk back to Littleroot Town as they chatted about his move to Hoenn. Ryan was already making quick friends with the professor. He just hoped he could keep his Pokémon.
"I'm actually interested in following in my fathers footsteps," Ryan said.
"You want to take the league challenge. Are you sure?" Professor Birch asked.
"Yes I want to be the best Pokémon trainer ever," Ryan said.
They arrived at the outskirts of Littleroot Town as the night sky was dawning on them. Ryan looked at the man that gave him an inkling of his first Pokémon battle.
"Look I'll tell you what... meet me in my lab tomorrow at noon and I'll give you some things you need to prepare you for the journey. I was going to send May to get the Pokédexes but it seems that your more suited for the job," Professor Birch explained.
"Sweet I'll see you tomorrow then," Ryan said.
Ryan arrived at his home as he waved at Professor Birch and went inside his house. Ryan's mom was watching the news as she heard Ryan.
"Ryan come quick your father is on TV," Darla said.
Ryan rushed to the TV where they were finishing a story on the newest gym leader as they showed Norman's gym in the background.
"Aw shoot we missed it. Where were you?" Darla asked her son.
"I got a surprise for you mom," Ryan said.
Ryan took out the poke ball as he threw it and out came the cute chicken Pokémon. Darla could tell something had happened as she wondered how he had a gotten a Pokémon
"Where did you get that Torchic?" Darla asked shocked.
"I saved the Professor from getting mauled by a wild Pokémon," Ryan said.
"Wow congrats... so will you become a trainer like your father?"
"I'm sorry mom but I was destined to become a trainer."
Darla nodded as she knew that nothing would stop her only child from being a trainer. The oven timer went off as she took the dinner out fo the oven.
"Dinner's ready and then go to bed. You have a busy day tomorrow," Darla said.
Ryan nodded as he grabbed a plate and began to eat. Ryan was already tired from today as he knew that tomorrow would be the beginning of his journey. He finished eating as he cleaned up and took a shower. After his shower he got dressed for bed and went to sleep excited for tomorrow.
#
Ryan woke up to his alarm going off as he looked around for the snooze button. He eventually slammed his fist on the alarm clock as his mother came into the room with breakfast.
"Wake up sweetheart you have an important day today," Darla said.
"Mom give me five minutes," Ryan said.
"No you need to get up and eat your breakfast," Darla said.
"Fine," Ryan sighed.
Ryan looked over at the tray as he saw fruit from the region and pancakes. He dug in as he felt himself get energized from the food. He finished the food quickly as he got dressed in his black and red jacket and his white beanie as he ran out the front door. He arrived at Professor Birch's lab as he walked into his facility. It was huge as many researchers studied random things. He could see May and the Professor talking as they were engaged into a vivid conversation.
"So is it true that Ryan wants to take on the gym challenge?" May asked.
"I don't know ask him yourself," Professor Birch said.
May turned around and saw the boy she had made friends with yesterday standing right there. She yelped as she hated that he was so sneaky.
"Hey May," Ryan said.
"Heya Ryan! So is it true?" May asked.
"It is true I want to be champion of the league," Ryan said.
"Well I'm going for the top coordinator in the world so I guess we have similar goals," May said.
"Well you two need to run an errand for me before I can register your two," Professor Birch said.
"What do you need dad?" May asked.
"Yeah Professor what do you need?" Ryan asked.
Professor Birch nodded and pulled the info up on his computer as he looked at the shipping information. They waited as he got the info up on his computer.
"I need you two to go get the chips for the Pokédexes I want to give to both of you," Professor Birch said.
"Okay we can do that. Does May have a Pokémon yet?" Ryan asked.
"You bet I do!" May said enthusiastically.
"Great let's get going then," Ryan said.
"Go to Route 103 and meet up with my assistant doing field work. He picked up the chips from Rustboro," Professor Birch said.
They both nodded as they ran out of the lab towards Route 101. Professor Birch smiled as his daughter had rarely made friends. He was glad that she had made quick friends with Ryan.
"Hope you two accomplish your goals," Professor Birch whispered to himself.
Professor Birch went back to his research as he was enthralled with the latest discovery he made about the secret habitats of an ancient Pokémon. He got a call from his wife as he answered.
"Hey Brenda what's wrong?" Professor Birch.
"Is May still there?" Brenda asked.
"No I sent her to Oldale Town."
"Oh so she really is doing this then?"
"Yep our little girl is growing up."
"What about the new neighbor is he going with her?"
Professor Birch nodded as his wife was happy that she had a companion. Professor Birch got a call as he knew that he needed to take it.
"Sorry Brenda I got to take this call," Professor Birch said.
Brenda nodded as her husband answered the next call. He was glad that his daughter was able to travel with a friend. He just hoped that it would stay like that as he was nervous about her being alone.

Ryan walked along Route 101 with May as he loved the freedom of being a trainer. May was loving the the warm summer winds as it blew onto her skin. Ryan saw a group of Poochyena follow them as he eventually realized they were following them.
"Crap we have trouble!" Ryan yelled.
"What do you mean?" May asked.
"Those Poochyena recognized me from yesterday," Ryan explained.
"They surely can't mad at you," May said.
They pack of Poochyena ran to block both their exits as Ryan sent out his Torchic to protect May and him. May sent out her Mudkip as Ryan and her prepped for a outmatched battle.
"What are we going to do?" May asked in a panic.
"Fight until we die," Ryan said sarcastically.
"That would be funny if we weren't literally about to die!" May said.
Ryan laughed as he loved his dark humor. May wasn't too happy with the joke as the Poochyena growled. Ryan began to think of a strategy to get out of this.
"Torchic use ember!" Ryan called out.
"Mudkip use tackle!" May commanded.
The embers and tackle hit some of the Poochyena but they were just getting angrier. They growled as a girl in a pirate garb flew out on big dragon. She threw a pokeball and out came a pokémon with a purple body and yellow ears popped out as they stopped in front of the crowd of Poochyena.
"Aster use echo voice!" the young girl commanded.
The pokémon used it supersonic screech to scare off the horde of Poochyena. Ryan and May covered their ears and fell to the ground in pain as they recalled their pokémon. They both got up as Ryan went to thank the girl who had already ran off in a flash. She was flying away on a dragon as she waved goodbye.
"Who was that?" May asked shocked.
"I don't know but she saved us. Let's beat it before they come back," Ryan said.
May nodded in agreement as they ran towards Oldale Town. The town was a quaint little village as the pokémon center was in the upper corner of the town. They walked in and healed their pokémon as they waited for a bit to eat some lunch while their pokémon were getting checked out. They ordered some sandwiches from the mart as they sat outside eating.
"I was so scared of those Poochyena's. What did you do to make them mad?" May asked.
"I simply beat one of them with Torchic to save your dad," Ryan answered.
"Oh so that's why dad had all those claw marks on him."
Ryan nodded as he finished eating his sandwich. May finished hers as the nurse came out with their lone pokémon and gave it to them.
"Have a safe trip you two," Nurse Joy said.
They both nodded as they proceeded west towards Route 102. They saw some nerdy kid inspecting the ground with a sketch pad as he was blocking the way. Ryan tapped the kid on his shoulder as he turned around.
"What do you want? Can't you see I'm busy!" the nerdy kid yelled.
"Woah take a chill pill for minute," Ryan said.
"I found a rare pokémon's footprints and I'm sketching my findings," the nerdy kid said.
"Come on Ryan Route 103 is up north," May said.
Ryan was a little angry as he wanted to check out Route 102 but knew that he could always come back. He ran off towards May who was already ahead. He was enjoying his journey so far as he was excited to get to Petalburg and face his dad.
#
Ryan finally caught up to May as she was engaged in a conversation with a researcher. She looked at the water that separated the routes as the researcher prepared his package for them. He took their Pokédex and began to work on them.
"May you ran off?" Ryan asked.
"Want to battle me while we wait for the researcher to finish on the Pokédexes?" May asked.
"I guess... but I thought you were a coordinator?" Ryan asked confused.
"I can be both... can I?" May asked.
Ryan nodded as he hadn't ever been in a trainer battle before. Ryan grabbed Torchic's ball and sent him out. May sent out her Mudkip as she decided it would be a good test to see who was the better trainer. Ryan looked at the blue salamander pokémon with an orange fins on it's cheek and a blue fin on it's head.
"Torchic use scratch!" Ryan shouted.
Torchic charged at the Mudkip and scratched it as it cried out and fell backwards. May worried as she hoped her pokémon was okay.
"Mudkip use tackle!" May yelled.
Mudkip tackled the chicken pokémon. It cried out as it was flung backwards towards the tree nearby. Ryan gritted his teeth as he knew that he had to end this fast.
"Torchic use scratch again!" Ryan called out.
Torchic scratched the water pokémon as it fell over. It was a critical hit as the blue salamander pokémon was close to fainting.
"All right Torchic finish it off with one more attack! Use ember!" Ryan ordered.
"Mudkip no!" May called out in fear.
Torchic hit Mudkip knocking it to the ground as it was knocked out. Ryan celebrated his win as he pumped his fist in the air. May recalled her Mudkip as the researcher finally finished setting up the Pokédexes for the both them.
"Wow cool!" May said.
"Yeah it's pretty neat," Ryan said.
Ryan pushed the button as the assistant popped up. Ryan was shocked as a the Pokédex now had an identity.
"Hello I'm Dexter your assistant. If you need any help don't hesitate to ask," Dexter said.
Ryan gawked at the feature as they walked back to Oldale Town. They healed their pokémon and were eventually back in town by night fall. Ryan and May were in between their houses as they looked at each other.
"I had fun today," May said.
"Yeah me too," Ryan said nervously.
"See you tomorrow!" May said as she hugged him.
Ryan was left standing there as he was shocked that May even hugged him. I mean they went through a lot in just one day so they were already good friends. Ryan walked back to his house and stepped in as he smelled a home cooked meal. It was homemade Olivine style pizza as Ryan melted in his shoes. He loved his mom's home cooked pizza.
"Ryan I see you're back? Did you have fun?" Darla asked.
"I did and I made a great friend today?" Ryan said.
"That's great honey. I told you're dad you would be stopping by his gym tomorrow," Darla said.
"I'm going to beat him and get my first badge!" Ryan exclaimed.
"That's the spirit!" Darla said.
They eat dinner and went to sleep as Ryan was ready for his journey to begin tomorrow. He eventually lulled to sleep and had a great dream about his future as a pokémon legend.
