Luz looked back and forth through every book that had the word "Vampire" on the cover. Eda walked in after a day at the market and looked at Luz. She was once a vampire hunter, so she's seen a lot of things most people haven't, one thing she hasn't seen is a vampire with bloodshot eyes... until now.
"Luz, I know you don't need to, but when was the last time you slept?" Eda asked.
"Eh, you know, Monday." Luz said.
"Kid, it's Tuesday."
"See, nothing bad."
"Kid, it's Tuesday... July 7th." Luz nearly dropped the book, "So, want to tell me what the date was?"
"M-M-Monday, June 29th."
"Thought so." Eda came over and pulled the book away from her, "Alright, you. Coffin. Sleep. Now."
"Mom-"
"Now." Eda said, "Why are you still looking for a cure, anyway? I thought you finally acknowledged that this is who you are now."
"It's not for me. Skara and Boscha never asked for this." Luz said.
"Luz, you didn't want this either, it wasn't your fault."
Luz walked up the stairs and into her room. Eda sighed and sat down. It's been about two weeks since she managed to beat Alaric and the vampire hasn't done anything except look for a cure.
"Poor kid." Eda said, "I wish I could help her."
Luz went into her room and lifted the lid. She got in and closed it, staring at the picture she taped to the inside of the lid. Her red eyes filled with tears.
"I miss you, Mami. I miss you and I love you." She said, running a hand over the picture of her mom.
Downstairs, Eda was on a crystal ball, speaking with Lilith.
"So, there's nothing in any of those books we've collected?"
"I don't believe so, but there's almost three hundred books about vampires in my library, so I would have to double check." Lilith said, "Edalyn, I know you're worried, but there was nothing you could've done."
"I know that, but... if I just picked her up from school that day, her mom would still be alive."
Lilith knew there was no way for her to talk Eda out of this, so she decided to change the subject.
"Speaking of school, what are you going to do about her schooling?"
"I wish I knew. I've been trying but... I don't think I'm a good mother." Eda said.
"Bullshit."
Eda flinched, she's rarely heard Lilith swear, at one point, she didn't think Lilith was capable of swearing.
"What?"
"You heard me." Lilith said, "You have done everything in your power to be there for her. You put a roof over her head, you give her a shoulder to lean on, you have done almost everything to help her. You called me just to see if one book has a cure, even though she has already recognized that she's a vampire. You are a great mother, a better one than I could ever be."
Eda thought about it for a second before letting out a small chuckle.
"Thanks, Lily. I'm glad we're at the point of talking again."
"Well, it's like you told me; 'we might fight, but your still my sister'. Anything you need, just ask."
"Thank you. Good night, Lily."
"Good night, Edalyn."
They ended the call. Eda turned off the lights and went upstairs, unaware that there was a person in a white cloak and gold mask, watching from a distance.
