Ginny was nervously pacing in her bedroom. Soon she would head for Hogwarts. Then she would have to face Harry again. The boy that she'd heard bedtime stories about. The boy that had defied the dark lord when he was just a baby. He had been staying in their home. She felt herself blush thinking about the incidence from this morning. Why did she have to be so clumsy around him? Then she made it even worse as she had tried to quickly wipe off the butter from her elbow and had nearly thrown a glass of milk over Harry in her haste. The twins had been teasing her mercilessly about it too. She wished that she had not had that stupid crush on him at all. Harry had been nice to her. He had tried to talk to her and she'd just turned tomato-red and had run away like a little idiot. She could be playing games and having fun with her brothers, however facing Harry on who she had such a big crush just seemed too scary. She looked at the black diary that rested in her lap. She had been dying to go to Hogwarts for ages. She'd try to get on the train even, when Ron had left for Hogwarts last year. Now it all felt as if everything went too fast.
Something about the diary made her want to write in it. She had never seen herself as the type of girl that would own a diary and that would curl up at night in a chair to write in it, but she felt that suddenly so much was going on that it might be nice to actually do just that. It had been nice of her parents to buy her a diary. She looked at the faint inscription on it. T.M. Riddle. Ginny felt torn between first asking her parents if they could spell it so no one could read it except herself, but she felt nervous of climbing down the stairs. What if Harry was there in the kitchen? She felt her insides twist as she imagined him looking up at her with that kind smile he always had. Ginny took a quill and started writing. I wish I wasn't so nervous and clumsy everytime I feel Harry's presence around me. Ginny felt her cheeks flush as she admitted this to the paper diary. She had been vehemently denying her crush to no avail as all her brothers knew about it, just like her parents.
Then words appeared on the page, without her writing on it. "What is so special about Harry?" When she saw Harry's name appear on the page she felt her heart skip a beat. The question struck her as odd. Her heart was beating very fast now. He is a hero. He defied the dark lord. He -
Ginny did not know how much time had passed, but suddenly she was distracted from her diary when the door was opened by Percy. She quickly hid her book under her pillow.
"It's late! We have to go to the platform now," Percy said. He seemed thrilled to go. "Finally, you are old enough to go too, Gin. Come on."
Ginny quickly stood up and ran down the stairs along with Percy. Downstairs her mother quickly ushered her into the car. Ginny was almost afraid that everyone in the car could hear her heart thump. She felt so nervous sitting in the same car as Harry and she just wished she could tell Tom all about it as he had seemed so understanding before and-
"Mom, my book! I forgot it, I just gotta-," Ginny squeaked out as she opened the car door and ran straight to her bedroom to grab it and hide it in her robes. She then ran back to the car where she took her place again with a reddened face. They then quickly took off into the air. Arriving at the train station her parents quickly loaded the bags into carts. With her dad on her right and her mother on her left they were running towards the platform.
Her mother was a little out of breath as she said: "We're so proud of you, Ginny, and your dad and I are going to miss you and of course also the boys when you are all at Hogwarts."
Ginny closed her eyes for a second as her vision was telling her she was going to crash into a wall. As she opened her eyes again she saw the familiar red train. Now she was finally allowed to board it. Her dad was already carrying her trunk into the train as her mother wrapped her into a tight hug.
"Don't forget to write us," her mother murmered into her ears. "We want to hear all about how you are doing at Hogwarts."
"Of course I'll write," Ginny said quickly and then headed towards the compartment where her father had loaded her trunk. Her dad gave her a quick hug as he walked past her and then she entered the compartment. It was weird how much she had complained about having to wait and it taking so long before she was finally allowed to go to Hogwarts, and now that she stood here in the train it felt like it had all gone so fast. To her relief, Luna was in the compartment. It was nice to see a familiar face and she had been playing a lot with Luna the past year.
"Hi Luna," Ginny said happily.
Luna looked up with a bright smile on her face. "Ginny, how good to see you!"
