Standing in a large conference room, people make their way in for a foundation that supports the education and funding for Leukemia. A lot of health professionals are set to be in attendance, as well as possible future sponsors that would like to work with the foundation. It was a large room, that was able to hold the amount of people that were there today, which was a little over a hundred people. The man who put this event together, is Joe Anoa'i, who just so happens to be one of the few people who own New York City. He's crazy rich, and who knows how many connections. Joe's company played a huge role in entertainment and with as much influence as they had in the business, they were untouchable at times because of it.
Joe, who stands at six foot three, and at 265 pounds of muscles, he was a large man. Long, black hair that was tied back into a neat bun. A beard that he kept neatly trimmed. A tattoo that started on his chest, and went down his right arm, and onto the right side of his back, showing his Samoan culture. He was a handsome man, that had a lot of women wanting his attention. Today, he was wearing a white, button down shirt and black dress pants, and black dress shoes, and he looks down at his watch, and walked up to the podium.
"Excuse me ladies and gentlemen. We're about to start in a few minutes, let's just give everyone time to find their seats so we can get started." He says.
He got a few things together on the podium and looked out to the crowd and was proud of the turnout. This foundation was important to him and something that he held dear to him because of his own experiences with it. Just as he was about to turn his attention to one of his colleagues, he notices two people walk in and close the door behind them. As they make their way to the front, his eyes go to the woman that he's never seen before. Long dark hair, slicked back into a neat ponytail. A button down shirt with long sleeves, black dress pants, both that seemed to do her figure wonders, and black heels. Joe couldn't make out her eyes to well, but he noticed the sleek, black glasses that she wore and the shine of her lips. There was something about the woman, that peaked his interest. When she sat down and crossed her legs, the woman beside her started talking about something, while the woman looked over at him. There was a hint of a smile before her attention went back to her friend.
Ten minutes later, Joe returned to the podium and got everyone's attention, and everyone quickly turned their attention towards the man.
"For those I was unable to speak with earlier, my name is Joe Anoa'i and I am the Chief Operating Officer for Anoa'i Entertainment. Before we get started, I just want to thank all of you for coming here today and taking part of the future of education, research and treatment for Leukemia." He says, briefly looking at the woman in the front row. "Over a decade ago, I was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia, or CML for short and then a few years ago, it came back after being in remission for years. Luckily, after a few months of treatment, I was blessed enough to get back into remission, but this foundation has become so much more personal to me. CML occurs mostly in adults, but in rare cases, it'll affect children as well. According to the American Cancer Society, the estimates for Chronic Myeloid Leukemia are that about 8,450 new cases will arise and about 1,130 people will die from this and that's just for this year alone, in the United States. For leukemia in general, it's an estimated 60,530 new cases with 23,100 deaths. I chose to support the Leukemia Foundation, not only because of how personal the cause is to me, but because I believe that with more education, treatment and prevention it could help so much with awareness to the cause and open doors for further research and attention."
Joe went on to talk a bit more about the type of cancer that he's had before introducing the president of the foundation, Danielle Montgomery. She went to talk a bit more about the foundation and the role that they play in the fight for cancer, as well as some of their goals. One could tell that the two were passionate about what they were talking about and this was something they were willing to fight for.
As Joe sat in his seat, he looked on with occasionally glances at the woman, which he could see from his seat. He wondered if she was a health professional or if she was with one of the companies that were looking to possibly sponser the foundation. He wanted to know more about her and was determined to do so. From her point of view, she wanted to know why he kept staring at her. Has she met him before, and just didn't remember? Is there someone that they both knew, and she just didn't realize it? She wasn't sure. But her mind starting going elsewhere, not purposely, but it did. And before she knew it, the meeting was done, and people were starting to gather their things and talk. Some walked up to Danielle Montgomery, to speak to her, and probably to Joe as well. As she was about to leave, she heard a man's voice behind her. Turning around, it was him. He looked more handsome standing in front of her, than he did, over 10 feet away.
"I don't think I've had the chance to catch your name." Says Joe.
"Emily Cruz." She says with a soft smile. "Nice to meet you."
She sticks out her hand, for a handshake, and he takes it without hesitation. His grip was strong, and firm. Emily's was firm, but there was a hint of gentleness. They held hands a little longer than what they should have, and she politely pulled away.
"I enjoyed this. Thank you for having me." Emily says.
"No, thank you for joining us today. I truly appreciate everyone who was able to make it." Joe replied.
Emily smiled. "Enjoy the rest of your day, sir."
She left with her friend, and Joe looked on as the woman with eyes so blue, one could drown in them. She had an accent, though he couldn't figure out from where that made her from. Perfectly groomed eyebrows with the right amount of thickness. Full lips, that looked kissable, though he quickly tried to refrain himself from such thoughts. Tan skin, and a small, hoop nose ring. It suited her, though.
"Derek." Joe called out and the guy was next to him within a few seconds.
"Yes, bossman?" He says, when he does.
Derek's been with Anoa'i Entertainment for about two years, but he's one of the best that Joe has worked with over the years. He works in the IT department and knows his way around with computers. At six foot two, and a little over 200 pounds, he was a bit smaller than Joe. Green eyes and light brown hair, he was clean shaven and in his mid 20's.
"Did you notice the woman I was talking to?" Joe asked.
"Yeah, she looked beautiful from what I was able to notice." Derek replies.
"Emily Cruz." Joe simply said. "Would you be able to get us in contact with each other?"
"Want her to come in, to the office, type of contact? Or her phone number, or her job type of contact?" Derek asks.
Joe thought for a moment. "Office for now. Provide me the information and I'll talk to Jamie to put it in my schedule."
"You got it. If I may ask, why the interest?" Derek asks.
"She's got that something that I can't put my finger on and I want to find out what it is." Joe replies.
