Hey, everyone. It's been a while since I've posted a Bible story. Until recently, I had doubted that I would ever do it again.
But then, a thought struck me. Call it divine inspiration, call it an "ah ha" moment, call it whatever you want. But, when I had this thought….my world came to a screeching halt. I...I felt overwhelmed. I had to stop and do a double take.
You're probably wondering what in the world I am talking about. Well, allow me to explain.
I am what you would call a very spiritual person. Over the course of the last two years, I have tried to develop and nurture my relationship with the Lord. Now, I've still got a long way to go. A looooonnnnggggg way. After all, I am human. Only human. I have a finite mind, and even though I consider myself imaginative, there's only so much I can comprehend about the Lord and his goodness.
Anyway, I digress.
I love to think about Heaven. I know that the Bible says "no eye has seen nor ear has heard," and I believe that. But...I wonder. If we can imagine something, does that automatically exclude that thing from Heaven?
You see, I think that the answer to that question is no. So, I have dabbled with some thought experiments of my own, trying to imagine what could possibly be up there beyond the veil of the sky. I was doing that at work on one of my breaks when a thought struck me. An amazing thought. An extraordinary thought.
And I knew, right then and there, that I had to share this thought with people. If God allows it, I know that this could potentially do something really good. It could open someone's eyes. It could potentially save a person's life.
So, I will share this thought. I will try to do the impossible… and describe Heaven.
Now, you'll have to bear with me through this little writing adventure. Throughout this document, it might seem like I'm going off on tangents. But I promise that I am going somewhere with this. And if you get to the end, then I hope….no, I'm sure that you'll find it worth it.
So, let us begin. Let's dive into the deep and amazing world of Heaven; try to grasp what exactly it could be like.
Okay. Now, one thing you have to understand about me is the fact that I'm a writer. I mean...yeah, that probably goes without saying, considering that I have written this document. And as a writer, one thing that is especially important to me is my characters. I love creating characters, fleshing out their backstories, coming up with their designs, etc.
And I can guarantee that I am not the only person who has this feeling. I have a hunch that every writer has some sort of personal connection, some sort of sentimental value attached to their characters. Even if you aren't a writer, you can still feel a connection with a character from a piece of media.
The reason I bring this up is because a question has been haunting my mind for the better part of the last few years. That question is this:
Can the characters we see on Earth be in Heaven?
Now, I know; that may seem a little far fetched. But consider this; God could do. I mean, He's God. He created the universe, for crying out loud! He made everything we see around us. Even if in the end He refuses to do this, He is literally the only person in the entire universe who could make this wish come true.
So, let's say, for the sake of argument, that this will happen. Let's say that the characters we see on Earth will be in Heaven. Every single last character that every single last human on Earth, even those who ultimately don't get to Heaven, will be there.
Now, let's take that idea and expand upon it. Answer me this, dear reader; can you capture every single detail of a character's life? Say, for example, you have a character who is forty years old in your story. Can you capture every thought, every action, every feeling, every desire, every blink of the eye...can you capture all of that before the story occurred? Can you do it after? Heck, can you even capture each moment perfectly within the story itself?
The answer, dear reader, is of course not! If you tried to do that, your book would be a thousand pages long, possibly more. You would probably die before you ended up capturing every detail within the first year! Even events that actually happened in real life….I mean, can you write down every single little thing you did yesterday? No! It would take you forever; it would take the rest of your life just to capture every detail of one measly little day!
Okay. Now, think of this. Even if we can't do that...God conceivably could, right?
Of course He could. He could take every detail of a character's life, every detail of a character's story, and capture it perfectly. Heck, He could even expand upon these character's stories. After all, on this Earth, we humans are still strapped down by imperfection. God, however, is not, so He could flesh out the character's stories in ways that we never even dreamed.
For example, most stories only focus on a group of characters. There are other characters in the background, background characters, who don't get any focus at all. Well, God could give those characters stories. He could flesh out every last detail of these characters' lives.
So, let's say that you're a fan of Star Trek, and you like Captain James Kirk. Well, in Heaven, you could possibly meet Captain Kirk's great great great great grandfather, or great great great great grandson. Characters that the scope of the story was too limited to talk about.
Okay. So, right now, we have every character that every person on Earth has ever imagined, and then some. The number of people that would comprise of….that's a lot of people! Considering that there are about 8 billion people on this Earth as of right now (not counting anyone who's died), the amount of people that would be if we added all those characters is...pretty much unquantifiable!
But wait. I'm still not done adding to this great gaggle of people. You see, I forgot the angels. Silly me; who could ever forget the angels? So, let's add them to the equation. That's even more people; a galaxy's worth of people. But I'm still not done.
What if there are aliens? I know we haven't actually seen any as of this time, but...hehe, we haven't seen God either! So you know what? Let's add aliens to the pile!
Okay, so with the characters, the angels, the aliens, and the redeemed, that brings our total up to approximately….oh wow, looks like I broke my calculator haha! You get it though; we have a lot of people. Enough to fill at least two universes. Even without the characters or the aliens, I imagine (or at least hope) that there will be a lot of redeemed people.
Now, imagine this. In Heaven, you would be immortal, right? You would also have a perfect memory and one hundred percent of your brain unlocked, right? So, you could conceivably become friends with all of those people. All of them. You could make it your little project to hang it with one person for a set period; it could be a week, a year, a decade, an eon, or so on. You and that person could share in your experiences. And after that designated time period is up, you could move on to the next person. And then the next. Then the next. You could go through all the people until you've cycled through to the very first again.
Is that cool or what?
Now, okay. Take all of those people and put them to the side for a while. Let's focus on something else for a little bit; food.
Imagine going to an alien planet and eating their food. It would be a food that you had never tried before, had no prior experience of eating. It might taste like something you're familiar with, or it might not. You could explore all sorts of new cuisines and flavor profiles on top of what you had experienced on Earth.
Not only that, but you could learn to cook all sorts of new dishes. If you wish to experiment with these cuisines or even combine the flavors you liked on Earth with them, you definitely could!
Okay, now imagine the colors. In Heaven, our eyesight will be perfect; no imperfections to speak of at all. The colors that you see on Earth will appear like they had never appeared before. Not only that, but you could see colors that you had never even seen before. That would be incredible! If you're an artist, you could paint paintings that use entirely new color palettes. You could make your drawings look beyond amazing, beyond what you had ever imagined.
Now, imagine the science. If you went to alien worlds, you could discover the sciences behind all of them. You could study the anatomy and biology of these alien species. You could see just how exactly their world works, down to the tiniest microscopic organism. You could discover just how their organs are configured, as well as see how complex these creatures are; whether they have many organs or few, whether they have intricate organ systems or simple. You could study these creatures until you can study no more, and when that happens, you can move onto the next planet!
One thing you could also do with the aliens is study their culture. This ties back into the cuisine thing that I talked about, as that is a part of their culture as well. However, this goes above and beyond with that. You could study their language, their customs, their methods of worship, their treatment of the environment, their relationship with other species, etc. Going back to Star Trek, you could essentially do what Captain James Kirk and Captain Jean Luc Picard do on a daily basis.
On top of that, think of the music! On Earth, our songs are limited by a series of notes. However, in Heaven, it's completely possible that there are notes that we have never heard before! And with our ears opened, we would finally be able to hear them and make use of them in the songs we write. You could write a song that no one has heard before, that no one could possibly hope to replicate.
Now, take all that I said: the characters, the aliens, the people you'll meet, the food, the songs, the science, the culture, the creatures, all of that. Take all of that and tell yourself this.
THAT multiplied by a BILLION….doesn't even come close...to how amazing Heaven will be.
That waa the thought that struck me on my break. I realized that if what I imagine Heaven will be like will happen, there are a million other things that can and will happen that make Heaven the best place in the universe. When in Heaven, you will never have any reason to be sad, or angry, or mourn. All your friends will be immortal anyways, so there is no reason why you have to worry about them. They are guaranteed to come back!
On top of which, there will be no fear. Can you imagine a world without fear? A place where you could encounter every situation, even ones that on this Earth would be ridiculously dangerous, and know that you'll get out of it without even a scratch. Can you imagine that?
Yeah. I think it would be incredible.
I sincerely hope that this document was worth your time. I hope that you now see Heaven with potentially a new perspective. A lot of times, I have seen people think Heaven is just flying around in a blue sky with white clouds. I don't know about you, but I think if Heaven was like that, it would get extremely boring after a while.
So, try it out for yourself. Think of the most amazing thing that you could ever think of. Maybe you like jewels. Maybe your thing is trains. Maybe your thing is music. Think of what you love, and tell yourself "Heaven is like that, but infinitely better."
Have a good day brethren, and God bless.
