Prologue

He was burning, screaming, and falling apart at the same time. Physically and mentally. There seemed to be no end to the agony, being stripped away bit by bit. But then, it was over.

There was nothing else, no more pain, just… void.

Time passed, insurmountable time.

Then… something anew came about.

From nonexistence, came existence.

Slowly some sort of sensation returned.

Arms, Hands, Legs, Feet.

But despite these things returning,

There was still darkness.

Something familiar.. returned.

Panic?

Fear?

Confusion and Chaos

September 3, 2561

It came to it's senses slowly, bright flashes of light steadily sharpened into the distinct bright blue projectiles fired by a plasma rifle. Accompanying these flashes were strangely reddish yellow flickers… hard light? Something or some things were screaming in agony when they were hit with the yellow flickers of light. It then became apparent that the incoming weapon fire was directed toward it. Its body instinctively sidestepped at an inhuman speed, the plasma shots flying by harmlessly. The promethean knight returned fire without hesitation.

Some of the smaller things made panicked noises as they attempted to flee.

A new overriding command came., Destroy the escaping trespassers, leave none alive.

The power behind the command combined with the present danger of being killed, quickly quelled these thoughts.

A few more exchanges of fire and the fight was over. The aftermath was composed of various corpses strewn out across the floor. Some corpses were small, wearing breathing apparatuses of some sort, and some larger ones wore deep blue armor. The larger figures had some sort of shielding, but the smaller ones were unprotected.

For now it was quiet, the overbearing voice seemingly was occupied with something. Looking around now, the promethean knight saw its fellow compatriots, moving to check the bodies. Some of the larger figures had survived by a narrow margin and attempted to keep on fighting, only to be ruthlessly gutted with hard light blades.

Elites… hinge heads… colorful armor?

The knight was confused by the sudden influx of information, and the thought that had preceded it. Standing still while contemplating this, earned the occasional glance of one of the other knights moving around, though none did stay focused on it for long. It was somewhat conflicting, having an informal name clashing with the logical answer.

The calm was cut by another abrupt command. Relocate to 2DZ678 immediately, Repel Intruding Hostiles.

Suddenly the Knight felt itself fold inwards and and enter some sort of void. It experienced a brief moment of darkness, then suddenly popping back into existence.

Another sudden influx of information created an image of the environment that it would materialize in. Humans were taking cover behind repurposed barricades. They were fighting against the same enemies as from earlier, small compact figures mixed with the taller elites. A human with some sort of advanced armor could also be seen.

The group were preoccupied with the enemy in the front, some occasionally popped up to fire then duck down to avoid a barrage of plasma projectiles.

Unfortuantly this left them extremely vulnerable to an attack from behind.

"Behind us!" Someone screamed, however the warning would come too late for most. The now materialized Knights fired on the backs of surprised human soldiers, their shots melting through armor and flesh with little resistance. Despite this slaughter, the soldier with the special armor would return fire with speed almost matching that of a Knight. One unfortunate machine would be caught in a burst of gunfire and was torn apart. Another would be dismantled with a combat knife, having its "neck" torn through.

This action caused the majority of the new attackers to focus their fire on the spartan, allowing some of the marines to continue shooting at the original targets.

"There's a Spartan here! We're gonna make it!"

"Oh god I don't wanna die like this!"

"We're being overrun! Where's our reinforcements!"…

"Look out it's going to fire!"

"...Aw hell."

The sudden influx of voices confused the Knight. It was a machine, a tool, created for war. Tools couldn't question, or hear voices.

Or be confused...

The voice that suddenly chimed in, felt intimately familiar. Almost... the same.

Something twisted and broke within the span of a few nanoseconds. For the first time in what seemed like an eternity. The question sat in the open without a cold rebuke.

It... questioned.

Where did that come from?

Memories from before?

Something isn't right I…

I…?

…

…

What am I?

A name.. I have a name?

Can't remember..

Am I a machine?

Machines have designations not names.

I...

Facing a difficult internal conflict in the middle of a chaotic shootout, the Knight felt something strange, something normally attributed to the living.

Panic

In this midst of this, it made a sudden illogical choice.

It chose to escape

A/N: I've never seen any fanfictions featuring a Promethean Knight as something more than just a glorified bipedal bug machine, as a result I shall write this prologue of sorts and perhaps continue this if people find it engaging.

I don't actually write a lot, this might not go too well…

Ah screw it lets just go.

EDIT: I changed some things in the earlier parts. Nothing that will affect the story too much of course, just minor discrepancies I suddenly noticed when taking a shower (true story). I apologize if this bothers some of the readers, probably should of double scanned this thing before I hit publish, will try to avoid surprise edits.

Fair bit of warning, my writing in these earlier chapters tends to be lackluster, not to mention short chapters as well.

Along with choppy writing and stuff.
