Chapter 1 – Out of the Frying Pan…
She felt a huge pounding headache which was soon followed releasing a soft groan... what happened? Why did she feel like shit and where the fuck did that light that blinded a while back go…?
She was a young woman of 18 years and her exposed, pale skin was covered in birthmarks. As she cracked opened her hazel-colored eyes and flipped her long dark brunette-hair away as she examined her surroundings.
Her upper attire consisted of a very short seafoam-green jacket with short sleeves with a green trim and white frills and underneath was a black tank top with a zipper in the middle and pockets on the sides along with a matching black underskirt held up by a light green belt over green shorts. A pair of black boots with white laces over green socks covered her legs and feet along with two sets of black fingerless gloves with green accents that reached her elbows on both hands.
It was indeed a surprising scene – a familiar brick alleyway and the sky completely dark blue with stars. This place was very familiar to her… in fact she immediately knew where she was although she thought it was all just fictional!
"Huh... T-Traverse Town!? How'd I get here? Isn't this supposed to be in the KH games? Why am I here!?" She screamed in annoyed tone before stopping and focusing on another question that had appeared in her mind:
"Is this a dream? No, my head hurts too much to be a dream... what is going on?!" She yelled and decided to pinch herself in order to see if this indeed a world of sleep. All she managed to gain was a small 'Yowch!'
The test proved only one solid fact - this wasn't a dream at all… nor a nightmare that she would be awakening from. She was in Traverse Town - a world that first appeared in Kingdom Hearts. A brief thought of going home crossed her mind.
"Do I even really want to go back?" She wondered to herself and reminiscent back to her entire life – a really hellish one, might she add.
Her life was an awful one back there... except for living with her grandma. It was a good move and her grandma acted like a mother figure to her when no one else could. Her actual mother was a whore, a cheater, a liar and a drug addict... her sister was on her way to becoming exactly like that. As for her brother... well, he was decent...for now.
"I feel bad about leaving Grandma without warning, but it's not like I was asked to be transported into another dimension. I can start over here..." The brunette told herself before shrugging.
It was worth a shot... plus, she always wondered what it would be like to live in the KH-verse. Now it was a good time to find out. "Wonder who I'll meet and see...?"
"I wonder if I'll get a Keyblade? Res the Keyblade Master has a nice ring to it, I admit. Plus… I could get another weapon of my choice…" She chuckled with a smirk on her face.
Oh, that would be amazing... fighting off baddies and such. Though she was also hoping to gain something else - guns. For some reason, she often envisioned herself wielding two sets of dual revolvers or something like that. It made her look like the Goddamn Punisher since she showed an extreme hatred for criminals and such.
It was a wide dimension of possibilities… one that may happen soon. If she could find a workbench to make the guns or think of them to appear just like a Keyblade would, jackpot!
"Who should I go see first? Should I find Leon? Cid? Oh, it's so hard to choose!" Res squealed in amusement and began to think about the minor things first.
Now though came the most important question - at what point in the KH-verse had she landed: Kingdom Hearts I or II? Maybe it was during BBS? For all she knew, this was during DDD or KH 3. Or maybe some other time. She needed to figure out where and when if she wanted to make sense of any of this.
"Okay, okay... so, now what to do...?" Res wondered as she crossed her arms and began to think.
She was unaware that a portal above her opened as a young boy in a crystalized form was falling from the sky into Traverse Town. She almost didn't notice until it was too late when she spotted his shadow coming close and close.
"GAH!" Res got out of the way as the crystal crashed-landed onto the spot where she was standing and dust filled the area.
"What the hell!?" Res groaned in annoyance as she started to cough from the kicked up dust.
She began waving the smoke away and wondered who in their right mind would drop a motherfucking crystal that would kill her out of the sky! But her anger disappeared when she noticed the crystal was in the shape of a boy:
He looked like he was wearing a black V-neck t-shirt with white hemming and black shorts with gray pockets with the shorts being tight around the calves. Underneath the shirt, he equipped the longer black-hooded jacket with red hemming, gray pockets with white hemming and red flannel flaps that are held down by a series of yellow buttons. His shoes had a blackish-yellow with the ankle and tongue of the shoe folded down and a single black strap. His gray fingerless gloves came to a v on his hands and are just short of his elbow - they had red hemming and a yellow strap around the wrist along with a silver circle plate on the back of the hand. A crown necklace rested around his neck while his short spiky hair depicted a brown color.
Res gasped in shock. "S-sora...?" She whispered softly before noticing that he was wearing his KH3 attire.
"Well, that answers about when I am, I guess." Res noted and sighed heavily.
How on Earth did he get frozen like this…? Last time that she played KH3, it was after finishing the game... she didn't know what happened next sadly.
She wasn't strong enough to carry a crystalized Sora around, so she'd have to find help to move him and hopefully someone would know how to fix him.
The moment she touched him however... she gasped in horror when she realized that he wasn't breathing at all.
She began to panic deeply – what if he was dead? Christ almighty, that would be-
Wait, he was made of crystal. It would be strange if he was breathing or had a pulse. So... from the look of things, he was comatose…? Actually… no, he was literally made of crystal. His whole body had been replaced with inorganic material - like the L'cie of Final Fantasy XIII.
Res sighed and wondered how to get him out of there. She didn't have many favorite characters in KH... yet two of them that she loved were Terra and Sora.
She had to help Sora. Hopefully a local could help if any of them were awake at this hour and their shops were open. But she couldn't just leave Sora all by himself so she had to drag him... as much as she hated to do so. With all the strength she could muster, began pulling Sora across the ground.
Turns out it was a challenge since he was heavier than he looked. She was able to get to the center of the First District... only to stumble upon a nightmare.
The entire place was a wasteland - buildings damaged, streetlights destroyed... no people around. Some of the houses even were boarded up for reasons unknown.
"Son of a bitch!" Res cried in anger.
What now? She turned to check the Accessory Shop... yet the sign was busted up. Luckily, the doors were still standing and she slowly dragged Sora into the Accessory Shop. Inside it was completely busted up and the fireplace extinguished. On the counter, a closed book rested – dusty and untouched for some many years by the looks of it.
"Sora might not need food and water as he is, but I do…" Res said before sighing as she realized that she hadn't eaten or drank a lot since leaving her old home behind.
If she could find some food and water, then she would survive. But where exactly… She'd have to figure it out soon. She didn't know how to survive in an abandoned ghost town. First though, she decided to examine the book and see what was written - turns out it was a diary of sorts.
Written by... Yuffie Kisaragi-Gainsborough? Huh, that was… unexpected.
"Was Yuffie adopted by Aerith or did they get married?" Res wondered with a curious expression.
She opened the first page and her curiosity was satisfied: 'To my friend and mother, Aerith - I miss you so much, Mom. I don't know how much I've got but I'll keep on writing no matter what. Just like you taught me.'
Res kept reading. Maybe she'd find out what happened here. The first page was depicted the first day in which the diary was written in:
Day 1: We literally acted like fools... trusting some brat who doesn't know how to even wield a Keyblade. What a joke! Everyone thought that he would save us... I did too... and what happens? He turns his back on us, US - who we need a savior the most at the moment! - He literally embraced the darkness... and I thought he was a decent guy. I thought he could be the hero of my dreams.
"WHAT?!" Res exclaimed and paused to look at Sora's Crystal form in shock.
"What... what did you do, Sora?" Res wondered softly and continued to read. Definitely something to do with Sora… but she didn't know what.
Day 12: We managed to hold out as best we could in Traverse Town - it was unfortunate what happened to Rinoa... Leon, he's so distant and cold right now. I just don't know what we're going to do... but we'll manage somehow. We'll manage.
"How long has it been since KH3?" Res wondered to herself with worry.
She kept reading the next couple of pages and then stumbled upon one that was a rather emotional topic:
Day 28: Aerith surprised me with something... adoption papers. She adopted me... a mischievous little ninja. I cried tears of joy as my newly-adopted mom hugged me. She sounded so happy... and so did I... My heart broke in small pieces of joy. Aerith promised that she would protect me and teach me so much...
"This is going to end horribly, isn't it?" Res asked no one in particular.
Nobody responded before she sighed and continued to read Yuffie's now abandoned diary.
Day 40: I can barely hold it in me... he killed her - My mom... MY MOTHER! FUCKING DEAD! He came back... he tore Leon completely and butchered him... then Aerith... I was the lucky one to hide... and now I'm the only one in this damn town! Mom... I'm sorry... I never got a chance to say goodbye... I never got a chance to thank you... I never had a chance to be the little girl you always wanted... I'm sorry, Mom.
"He came back? Who came back?" Res wondered but she was already dreading the answer to that question.
She read the last three pages:
Day 62: I don't know how much more I've got... the Heartless are getting more and more powerful. Seems like their master isn't kidding around... and Sora... he's on the alert to find me. I just hope I can stay well-hidden enough until I can find some way to escape... I hope I can. Mom, wish me luck and keep me safe.
"Oh my God, this Sora is a monster..." Res whispered in horror. How could such a sweet and innocent hero become a monster? It didn't make any sense…
Day 75: They're close... I can feel it. And the darkness is drawing close... I'm scared... scared of dying... scared of everything... I just hope that whatever happens... Mom and the rest will be watching over me... I hope that when my time comes, I'll get to see them...
"Poor Yuffie..." Res sighed with a large dose of sympathy towards Yuffie.
Day 91: I was wrong... about everything. Sora showed me the true darkness... and I couldn't help but accept it. Sora is no monster... he is the one who will lead me to the true darkness. He told me that he loved me... and I love him as well. He offered me to join him in the darkness... and I accepted it. I don't care what other think... my mother is probably rolling in heaven and heartbroken but I don't care... Sora is mine and mine alone... I will gladly join him in ruling the worlds as his dark queen. My heart is brimming with darkness... and it feels so good. I was wrong to not embrace it... but now I have accepted it. I am happy... goodbye, old Yuffie. Hello, Dark Queen Yuffie.
"Oh no... oh no, no, no..." Res was horrified – Yuffie was corrupted to the core and had accepted the darkness...? My god…
That was the last page of her diary... and Res threw the diary at the wall in anger. She had definitely fallen into a nightmare version of Kingdom Hearts… one that offered nothing but danger, evil and numerous deaths.
"So… that's it, is it? Sora seduced Yuffie and they became the Dark Overlords of the Worlds... but what the heck is with this Crystal Sora then?" Res wondered as she stared at Sora in his crystal prison for a moment.
Res didn't have any clue to be honest... All she could think about was how this Sora ended up a crystal form.
"This Sora looks just like he did at the end of KH3. Could this be a different version of Sora?" Res questioned with a curious look before she came to a conclusion. "I was pulled from my home dimension, so why not a different version of Sora?"
As she turned away and thought about this… she was unaware that the crystalized version of Sora began to crack a bit and restore him to his normal human condition.
Res was so distracted by the thoughts swirling in her head, so much Darkness in this world and worries on how she would survive this nightmare alongside the crystalized version of Sora.
The crystals began to disperse as the real Sora had returned albeit disoriented before he shook his head and summoned the Keyblade – Kingdom Key. "Alright, you heterochromia prick! Let's finish this once and for- Huh... wait, Traverse Town!?"
"Eep!" Res squeaked in surprise when she overheard his voice.
Sora heard the 'Eep' sound and saw Res who was shivering a little bit. "Huh... and you are?" He wondered suspiciously.
"I-I'm Res," She greeted nervously.
Sora waved at her. "I'm Sora... and this is Traverse Town?"
"What's the last thing you remember?" Res asked. It was time to see if this was the canon-verse Sora or an alternate version of him.
"Ummm... basically, a rooftop battle with this guy called Yozora. He was a tough opponent... crossbow, sword... the works. Why?" Sora wondered with his arms crossed.
Res went to pick up Yuffie's diary and wondered how well Sora would take the news – probably bad. "You're not going to like the answer to that."
"I've had worse... why does this place look like it's been through Hell?" Sora wondered as he stared at the complete mess that was originally the Accessory Shop.
"You'll find out after you read this." Res handed him the diary and was eagerly awaiting to see what his reaction would be.
Sora took it and began to read it while Res watched his expression as he read. Some seconds and a minute later, his facials changed from bewilderment to horror and despair at what he just learned.
Dropping the book onto the ground, he felt his hands shaking and his eyes widening. "I... I... that's not me! No... no..." He whispered to himself.
"You're right. That's not you. That's an alternate version of you that gave into the Darkness," Res comforted with a small hug.
Sora accepted it but he didn't feel anything else but utter disgust for how easily he had fallen to the darkness.
"We have to stop him." Sora declared with a serious look.
No matter what it would take… He would stop his evil counterpart and Yuffie who had embraced the darkness. It wouldn't be easy… but they would do it. Together.
Author's Notes: So, yeah – I'm pulling off another self-insert story involving putting the self-insert character of my friend. I'm gonna be creating a story involving her and Sora since I feel like the chemistry between this two would be an interesting one.
Speaking of interesting – the timeline is currently after KH3 but in a dark universe where Sora willingly gave into the darkness and took Yuffie as his queen. It's going to be hell… but it's possible our heroes will turn them both back to the light. We'll see how it goes.
I'm eager to do this one since I wanna include some good movies from Disney that my friend enjoys watching. Maybe I'll add in some RWBY in there… who knows.
For now, enjoy reading and until the next chapter. See you all later!
