Author's Note: Welcome to chapter one of The Best of the Blakes! Instead of doing an alphabetical challenge, I decided to find some "Person A and Person B" prompts that work well for Lucien and Jean and I'm looking forward to writing all of these! Some chapters are going to be longer than others and some chapters will include Lynette whereas some won't, but we'll just see what happens and I hope that you all enjoy this little fic.
(Person A and Person B playing in water and splashing one another.)
As Jean ran a hand over the bath towel that was draped over her arm when she was standing quietly in the doorway to the bathroom, she couldn't help but smile as she watched the sweet scene play out before her eyes. Her husband was sitting on the floor next to the bath in nothing but his trousers and singlet, his sopping wet shirt discarded on the other side of the room while he splashed water at their little girl and Lynette squealed in response as she kicked her legs and clapped her chubby little hands with delight. She was almost six months old now and her favourite thing to do, whenever it was his night to bathe her, was kick and hit the water with all her might to create waves that went over both him and the floor. She had told him countless times not to encourage her and make a game out of it, but he hadn't listened.
In all honesty, however, she didn't mind it as much as she made out because she adored the bond that the two of them had.
She hadn't been lucky enough to have a relationship like theirs with her own father while she had been growing up. He had always been a strict, no-nonsense man and had never been one to show much affection to her or to anyone for that matter. She could remember longing for attention from him as a girl. She had drawn him so many pictures and done her best to help her mother around the farmhouse with the hope of earning even the slightest praise from him, but nothing she had done had ever made a difference and so she had given up trying. She knew in her heart though that Lynette would never have to do any of those things. Lucien loved the bones of her and he would never make her feel as though his love, time, and attention was something she had to earn. Their bond was the most beautiful thing in the world.
'Mum-um-um!' The sound of her little girl attempting to call to her pulled her from her thoughts and back to the present, nothing but love for her along with her husband shining in her eyes as she pushed away from the doorframe and made her way further into the little bathroom.
'Goodness me, what on earth has happened in here? Anyone would think that a tsunami had hit the place!' She teased as she knelt down beside her husband and swept a hand over Lynette's chocolate curls, earning herself a smile that showed off the one small tooth she had. 'Lucien Radcliffe Blake, what did I say about encouraging her?' She mock scolded him, her little girl laughing when she swatted at his arm.
'Don't blame me, she started all of this! You're going to be a world-famous swimmer when you grow up, my darling, aren't you? You're just getting a little practice in,' Their little girl kicked at the water as though she were agreeing with all that he had just said, causing her mother to gasp and drop the towel she had been holding as the front of her blouse became drenched in the process. 'Oh dear, now we're in for it.'
The smallest smirk spread across Jean's face before she reached into the bathtub and all but threw a handful of water over him, she and Lynette bursting into laughter when he spluttered before he turned to her with a look of pure shock. 'Don't you dare give me that look,' She giggled as she brought her hands to rest on her hips, Lucien wiping the water from his face with the back of his hand. 'That was your fault.'
Before either of them knew it, they were chuckling and splashing each other wildly with water from the bath, Lynette squealing at the top of her lungs with glee while she watched the two of them play together and went on kicking her legs and clapping her hands together happily.
Yes, sometimes it irritated Jean when her husband didn't listen to what she said and she was the one who had to mop the bathroom floor once he'd given their little girl a bath, but this timeā¦this time around she was rather happy to make an exception and allow things to slide.
Besides, she had to admit that it was some of the best fun she had ever had.
Author's Note: Thank you so much for taking the time to read the first chapter, I appreciate it so much and I truly hope that you liked this little piece of fluff! I love writing about Jean and Lucien as parents because they would have made perfect ones and I also love allowing Jean to have a baby girl to spoil. The next chapter should be up soon, but please feel free to suggest some prompts to me if you have any as that would be so appreciated. Thank you again for reading and I would love it if you would leave a review. Bye for now!
