"Papa, can we get some guda?" His little girl asked, her eyes looking up at him with such love. She had her mother's eyes which made it all the more difficult to say no.
"Why not," Fintan said, knowing it was futile to put up a fight. Having never liked ganna or the sweet sickly substance derived from the plant, he loathed his daughter's love for it. She found it impossible to control her gifts when she ate too much of it; he was grateful for that as she would only consume a small amount in public. Fintan welcomed the evening coolness that had taken over after a scorching hot day. The middle kingdom of Bharat had long been aware of the existence of his species, many of the portals that led to his world, and many of the other Fae and Dae worlds could be found in Bharat.
"We need to get back home before your mother starts to worry." When they finally made it to the forest, Fintan bent down to pick her up when something slapped an amulet around his wrist, he felt every bit of his power and gifts drain from him, and he doubled over.
"Papa." She screamed, her small frame able to help him sit. He looked down at the amulet, knowing exactly what it was and knowing he had no hope of taking it off.
A shadow soon loomed over them. "Shield us." Fintan thought at his daughter. They both knew she could not keep up the barrier indefinitely. "What do you want?" Fintan asked only to earn a condescending smirk in return.
The vampire chuckled at the sight of the Fairy, he hadn't truly believed the Fairy trinket would work, but there it was doing exactly as he had been told it would. He leaned down to take the child only to be met with a barrier. He hit the barrier with a force that would normally destroy whatever was in his way, but the barrier stayed firm. "Give me the child, the amulet will come off, and you can be on your way."
"He lies; the minute you do so, he will kill you." His daughter whispered. With the barrier in place, the vampire was unlikely to hear her.
"I thought as much." Fintan looked at his little girl wiping the tear that had formed. They both knew the reality of their situation. That amulet meant despite all her gifts, she could not get him to safety, nor could he walk through the portal without killing himself in the process. The amulet effectively rendered him human. "I love you so much. Tell your mother…" his words trailed off; instead, he showed her just how much he loved them both.
"Papa." She cried, knowing she would never see him again. It would take a miracle to save him. She looked around, hoping for some salvation. The vampire had waited until they were away from the humans and in a dense part of the forest.
"Go." He instructed. In a blink of an eye, she was gone. She heard the roar of the vampire just as the portal opened.
Sookie's eyes snapped open, she looked around to see what had woken her up. The light on her phone answered her question. "Yes," she answered.
"If it isn't my favorite investigator." The voice on the other end purred.
"Hello, Henry." Sookie smiled. "Well, considering you called my personal phone, who else would it be.
"Indeed, I'm in town and thought you might like to meet up." Just what she needed, falling asleep in the middle of work said it all. She had little to no energy left and was in desperate need of a top-up.
"Perfect, the Savoy?" She asked.
"Where else?" Henry teased.
"A little change does not hurt." Sookie returned.
"The last time I listened to you, I ended up with overdone steak, so forgive me if I don't agree with your statement."
She laughed, having expected that very comeback. She was never going to leave it down, that much she knew. "I will be there in an hour." She tried bringing up her calendar, but her PC decided it was the time to throw a tantrum. "Really, today, of all days you decide to play up." Sookie groaned, hitting the desktop.
"That is not going to help at all." Maria-Star laughed as she came round the desk to help. She managed to bring up the calendar with a couple of clicks of the mouse.
"I did just that," Sookie shouted, much to the amusement of her PA.
"No, you did not." Maria-Star laughed as she sauntered out of the office.
"I did," Sookie whispered petulantly. Of course, the werewolf heard her boss but ignored her.
Sookie got extremely impatient when her energy levels got very low; the fact that she fell asleep before lunch was very telling.
"You've got a meeting with Carmichael, which I can move to Monday; he won't like it, but who cares," Maria-Star told her from her desk before Sookie had even had a chance to look at the calendar. "You can go home, boss." She teased.
"Thank you." She could feel the gratitude leaking off Sookie. The girl was desperate. Maria-Star chuckled at thinking of her boss as just a girl. Sookie Stackhouse was older than dirt.
"You are a lifesaver," Sookie said as she shut her office door. "I will see you Monday. I will bring you those scones you love so much.
Sookie teleported straight to her apartment. She had four go-bags in her closet, Sookie grabbed go-bag number 3 and teleported straight into the royal suite at The Savoy. Henry has been using the hotel since 1892 and was well known by a select few at the hotel. Most luxury hotels worldwide knew of the supernatural long before vampires came out, as some of their best clients were of the supernatural persuasion. Several establishments across several industries were very much in the know when it came to the supernatural. Most of the wealthiest individuals had some supernatural background, even if some did not know it.
Henry was one such man. When Sookie met him in 1451, Henry had no idea he was half Dae, his mother, it turned out, had an affair, and the man he called father was not, in reality, his father. Sookie had no idea she'd opened a can of worms when she approached him revealing his supernatural status to him under the assumption he knew. In reality, she had done him and his mother a great favor. Henry apparently had long ago learned he was a telepath and had some control over his ability to produce fire but had kept it to himself out of fear. Soon after they met, Henry's abilities got out of control, and without her help, he could have killed a lot of people before he himself was killed. He had flourished during his friendship with Sookie and as part of the Lore Club, a supernatural club that many had no knowledge of in the university.
Henry lay in the middle of the king-size bed naked as the day he was born, his cock looking up at the ceiling. "Just how I like you." Sookie purred as she stripped naked, joining him.
Several hours later, they came up for air. "We still did not beat our record." Henry groused.
"I truly do not know why you want to beat that record; it wasn't exactly done under the best of circumstances." Sookie had let her energy levels wane until she could not get out of bed. Uncle Dermot had been literally forced to track down Henry to come help her. It had taken eleven hours of fucking before Sookie felt like herself again. She was determined never to find herself in that position again. So Henry's determination to beat that record was highly unlikely to happen.
"Still, I would like to aim for twelve hours. Half a day Sooks, I don't believe it has ever been done."
"I truly have no desire to fuck for twelve hours straight," Sookie complained. However, she was truly enjoying feeling full of energy. As much as she required food, she more so needed the energy sex and blood brought. One would think she was a vampire, but no, she was so much more. Of course, blood from humans did nothing for her, humans, in general, did nothing for her. They had little energy, and she was more than likely to kill them if she had sex with one, as she found out just over a decade ago. Vampires had no energy to offer from sex, but their blood more than made up for the lack of life. Fairies and demons were teeming with life, and that energy did not wane at all. Despite being a half-demon, Henry was her favorite, not that she would ever tell him that.
"By the way, I have found her," Henry said with a nonchalance that was just like him no matter the seriousness of the situation.
Sookie sat up so quickly, the movement was unseen even by the half-demon. "Where?"
"Louisiana, I believe your PA would have more inside knowledge for you. She did run with the Longtooth pack before she married Tray Dawson." Alcide's actions with his former pack had made it easy for Sookie to convince the pair to move to Manhattan. She had come to Marie-Star's aid when Alcide's former pack tried kidnapping her to force his hand. Alcide's actions had driven her into Tray's arms. The move had made the pair persona non grata in Lousiana.
"My mother owns a home in Bon Temp and New Orleans, I have spent a great deal of time in that state. How did I not know she resided there. I actually have no idea how long she has resided in that state." Henry finished.
"I last saw her in London, but someone else had their eyes on her… let's just say it was in my best interest to let him see it through. I just didn't think I would then lose all trace of her." Sookie took the file Henry handed her and read through it despite having the information already. She smiled at the accompanying picture, this time, she was determined to never lose her. Her initial plans would have to be redrawn if she stood any chance of getting everything she wanted. Even for someone in her position, having her cake and eating it too wasn't always possible.
With twelve scones in hand, Sookie teleported straight to her office. "There you go." She placed it on Maria-Star's desk.
"Oh, you are the best." She groaned as she bit into one. The joy of having a boss who could teleport in with fresh scones on a Monday could not be quantified.
Sookie chuckled at the sight of Maria-Star greedily grabbing another scone when she had yet to finish the first one.
"I need some information from you when you are done," Sookie said as she walked around her desk.
Maria-Star was stuffing the last of her second scone into her mouth as she walked into the office, her notepad and pen in hand. "Oh, before I forget, Tray is taking your car and bike for a service today, should be back sometime this evening if not tomorrow morning."
"That is fine, I will not need the bike until the weekend." She rarely ever drove the car but loved nothing more than taking her bike out of the city during the weekend. "Okay, now tell me about Pamela Ravenscroft," Sookie asked as she sat back.
"You mean the sheriff of area 5's child," Maria-Star responded.
"The north man is Sophie-Anne's sheriff?" She asked, her tone laced with disbelief. Sookie did not like that bit of information one bit. She'd never met the vampire queen but knew of her reputation. Sophie-Anne was well-loved by her subjects, although she had a knack for collecting humans. She had the largest donor pool of any monarch.
"Yeah, and has been for about fifty years, give or take a decade as for his child, I believe she joined only a few years ago. They ran a vampire bar in Shreveport together." Maria-Star confirmed. "I don't know if she's a client, but I believe her maker is a client."
Sookie groaned, slamming her head back against her chair. "Well, that makes things even more difficult."
"What do you want with her?" She knew Sookie was not the least bit fond of vampires.
"Let's just say she caught my interest a long time ago, but I had to leave her for another."
"You are being too vague," Maria-Star said, knowing what it meant. Her boss was up to no good.
"I know," Sookie smirked. "Get me Northman's file." She instructed. Going through a client's file to get to their child was dangerous if her bosses found out, but she had minimal options. She needed a way to get close to Pamela Ravenscroft.
