Hi all! I am a new writer, old reader and wanted to try my hand at a story since my school term has ended. I am extremely fascinated by history and the stories of the British Royal Family. So, this is what came out of that! The song 'As the World Caves In' by Matt Maltese has been on repeat on my Spotify playlist for a while and is part of the inspiration for this story. Hope you all enjoy it!
She wanted romance. She wanted simplicity. But he lied about what he could give her and it was too late. She was in love. They met their second year of college in an Intro to Art History Class. Some would say it was love at first sight, except he didn't know what love was. It wasn't until he met her that he realized he could feel something more. And that's exactly what he did.
Upon first meeting, she knew who he was. Everyone did. But she knew that there was so much more that she could uncover. After their fourth date, he finally opened up to her about the reality of his familial situation. He was expected to fall in line and be who they wanted him to be. He was groomed for royalty and could not defect. The only reason he was able to come to school in New York City in the first place was that his father wanted him to be 'relatable' to the public. Knowing what she knows now, she feels empathetic.
Her mother and father are an accountant and a college professor, respectively. They never struggled but they weren't immensely rich. She and her siblings were loved and cherished as they were. But she was now forced to realize a different reality.
After four months of dating, she invited him to meet his family while they were in town and he was shocked at how much he didn't know. Immediately, her mother embraced him and her father gave him a genuine smile. The entire weekend, they treated him as one of their own and wanted to get to know him. There was no judgment about his family's actions, his title, or even about things that were currently plaguing the media. He appreciated that. Only so many people could be that genuine with him and have no ulterior motive. And he understood then that he could not provide her with the same experience.
Once her parents left, he knew he would have to talk to her. They were laying on the couch at his apartment deciding on a movie to watch and he knew this was a good time to bring it up.
He turns his head to her and says, 'Love, there's something that I need to talk to you about.' Looking back at him and seeing the seriousness in his face, she sits up to face him.
She knits her eyebrows. 'What is it? Everything alright?'
He takes a deep sigh and grabs both of her hands in his. He starts to rub them with his thumbs and he brings them up to his lips and kisses them. 'I am so happy that you wanted me to spend time with you and your parents this weekend. It truly meant a lot to me. With all the rubbish happening in Britain, it was nice to have a break from thinking about it all. And while I know that we have not been together long, I know that you are it for me.'
She looks up at him softly. 'And I'm happy that you enjoyed yourself. They really love you, Fitz.'
'And I them. I can't believe that there are families who have pure love and adoration in them. That's why I am scared to introduce you to mine. They...they are not the most accepting of those that they deem outsiders. If it were up to me, I would protect you from it all and never go back but I don't have an option even close to that. This weekend made me realize that coming to Britain would not only be a culture shock to you but it would not be for getting to know my family as I did yours. It's judgment day to make sure I'm not squandering away my time here like they claimed I inevitably would.'
She looked at him with contempt and shook her head. 'I have no choice but to believe that everything you're saying is true. I also know that we can't avoid them forever. I understood coming into this relationship that you were different and there is nothing we can do to alter your family situation. I have to accept that. But baby, you have to give me a chance to at least get to know them and your lifestyle.'
'I know, I understand that. It's just that I have seen firsthand how my siblings and cousins have been put through the wringer because of their romantic choices. My grandmother and mother specifically run people out of the doors after a day because they convince them they're not good enough. I wanted you to know that you are.'
She squeezes his hands and states, 'And I do! Every day you tell me- show me- that I am and I hope that I do the same with you.'
'You do, you know that you do. I just cannot shake this feeling that something is happening and whatever it is, I can't lose you.'
Olivia slides in his lap and looks directly into his eyes. 'Part of being in a relationship is going through the worst of times together. And while I don't share your same intuition, I believe you.'
'I love you, Olivia. Always remember that.' As he kisses her, she thinks about what could be brewing in his mind.
They'll soon find out that their intimate bubble will be destroyed in the most unspeakable ways.
AN: This was just a prelude to the feel for the story. I hope you all liked it and I promise to update soon! Please leave any comments or suggestions for me. I would really love the feedback! Have a great weekend!
