Chapter 1
Jasmine had done it again. She had once again scared off yet another prince that wanted her hand in marriage. And yet again, she was so disappointed that it was yet another self-absorbed jerk who only cared about his title as a prince. He didn't care about her as a person. And that made her mad.
Her father came in to her room with the same disappointed look as he always gave. He was tired of having to deal with princes leaving unhappy like that.
But she was tired of dealing with this marriage deadline too.
"Another Prince? How many more are we going to go through before you finally give a legitimate a chance to one of them?" The sultan asked shaking his head.
"As soon as you find one that isn't a jerk like all the ones I met. They don't care about me as a person. They only want the royalty Father. Why can't you see that?" Jasmine said angrily. Hopefully after her birthday passes, she could go out on her own and find someone that will marry her for who she is. Not because she's a princess.
The Sultan once again shook his head angrily. "Fine well it seems as if you are intent on not getting married, then I will only provide 1 last suitor for you. But keep this in mind, don't dismiss this one like you did the others. You'll love this one." The sultan said with a devilish smile on his face.
Jasmine looked at her father with anger. She was honestly fine just living on her own rather than being forced into a loveless marriage. "Father why would I love the last suitor? What's so special about him?"
"He won't marry for Royal titles. He has the same mindset as you. He will only marry for love and nothing else." The sultan crosses his arms with contempt afterwards though.
"Then why didn't you bring him sooner!" Jasmine for once was enthusiastic about meeting a suitor who understood how she felt.
"Because he's just like you Jasmine. He's kind to others, he doesn't care much for his title as a prince, and he's stubborn with his beliefs. He's turned out many princesses the same way you turn down princes. He doesn't act like royalty. And that's what scares me." The sultan replied handing Jasmine a book.
"This all the information I found on him. I had a couple of our guards go to his kingdom to spy on him. I just couldn't believe there was a man who had the same feelings as you. I didn't want to bring him simply because he isn't a normal prince. But he's the last one. And I had to do everything I can to bring him here. Please give this one a chance for my sake." The Sultan finished and left.
Jasmine was curious though. She doubted there was a prince who actually understood her feelings. But as she opened the book, she saw why her father insisted on this man.
She read the information on him. How he opened up orphanages and plays with the kids there. How he opened up animal clinics so hurt animals could be taken care of. How he helped anyone he came across who needed it. He didn't view himself as a prince. He had the power to help others. So he did.
Raja walked curiously to Jasmine and nuzzled her face on her leg. Jasmine smiled and pet him. Before continuing to read. Raja soon stuck his head next to Jasmine's and tried to read as well.
"Raja I think this prince deserves a chance to show he's not an idiot like every other prince I've come across. He seems genuine. What do you think?" Jasmine asked with a sweet look on her face.
Raja surprisingly didn't growl or have a disgusted look on his face. He actually was curious about the young man as well. Maybe he is worthy of a chance from her after all.
However she noticed something more the further along when she saw some of his pictures. He was a good, kind looking man, but some of his pictures he was bruised, sometimes badly. He even wore a patch on his eye. That was a little concerning for a prince. Didn't he have protection?
But no matter how many pictures she saw of him, he always smiled.
Jasmine couldn't help but trace his picture. She liked his smile very much. And if what she read about him was true, she might finally be willing to genuinely try to build a connection with him.
Before she closed the book though she saw one other thing that caught her eye, he turned down over 15 princesses that wanted his hand in marriage. Perhaps what her father said was true.
She closed the book and went to her bedroom. But before she went to bed she has one lingering question on her mind.
Where did those bruises come from?
