hi guys this is my new project uh ive started too many so ill be taking one other one or discontinuing one. sorry. going by manga sorry for anime watchers lol.

Plantations were organized domes that were sporadically placed across Earth, as a reserve for magma oil. A revolutionary source of energy that vastly improved human life, it even granted immortality to the rich.

But as good things come, bad things follow.

Monsters known as Klaxosaurs rose from the Earth, their main reason? Magma oil. They tore apart cities with the force of storms, and soon, all of civilization was forced into domes carved into the ground––Plantations.

In order to combat the ferocity of Klaxosaurs, civilization innovated and invented the Franxx, mechas operated and piloted by a female pistol and a male pilot.

Thus began the war.

Code 002 sat cross-legged near the window, staring longingly out of it. Perhaps dreaming of a distant landscape filled with a vast ocean, and saltwater that felt just as good as it looked.

"I want to take a bath," the strange girl spurted out.

Code 002 was a strange case, for sure. Her eyes were as gray as the swirling clouds that only signaled a ferocious hurricane. That would perhaps rip out trees, tear apart families, and uprooting buildings.

Her blonde hair was combed underneath a military cap, and she was donning a uniform to go with it as well.

"Not again..." The doctor groaned. "Show some self-control."

The girl lost interest in the doctor as soon as she was denied.

"Hey, how do I smell?" She asked her new partner, although he wasn't in the condition to answer due to their previous battle. Which hadn't boded too well for his body.

The man was reduced to a breathing tube, and a bandaged up body after their last encounter with the Klaxosaurs.

"Stay quiet," the doctor snapped. "He's in no condition to put up with your antics. What a high-maintenance girl" He grumbled.

"Doctor," a red-haired woman spoke up. "We're nearing our destination, begin preparations for landing."

"I see," the doctor said.

The woman directed her attention to Code 002, "You as well."

002 stubbornly ignored her. She licked her own hand, frowning. "I hate... how I taste."

"Does Plantation 013 have an ocean?" 002 asked.

"I'm sorry to say there's no ocean there."

"I wanna swim in some clear ocean water." The girl complained.

"Won't a shower do?"

"I'm in the mood for a swim."

"Percy!" A voice interrupted his thoughts.

Over the birdcage, an aircraft floated by.

"So this is where you were," he recognized the voice as Piper's.

He was practically speechless. "Piper..."

"What's it like to run away from things? From everything?" The girl was on the brim of an emotion, what it was, Percy couldn't recognize.

There was a gleam in her eyes that Percy had always adored, a reflective surface that encompassed seemingly every color that existed.

Her messily cropped dark chocolate hair was definitely not up to the parasite standards, but the firm stance she held obviously conveyed her power as a leader.

"I-"

"Tomorrow's the welcoming ceremony. I take it you don't plan on coming."

Percy shook his head. "I can't."

"You've been given a chance, Percy. You're a special exception. You can't throw that away!"

Percy glanced away from Piper's eyes. He couldn't stand meeting them.

"Believe me when I say this, I regret what happened with Rachel but show some confidence and stay here with us. Don't be so stubborn!"

Percy studied the grass beneath his shadow. "What use am I here? I've lost everything that I am, my abilities, everything! I'm utterly useless."

He drew a sharp breath and took off.

"Sorry, Piper."

Percy... his real name is Code 016.

As far back as they can remember, the children had code numbers assigned to us and were raised in the garden.

The garden was an establishment created for the sake of nurturing "parasites" until they developed great skills.

They were told that piloting weapons called "Franxx" in male-female pairs in order to protect humanity––the adults and fight against the Klaxosaurs was our sole purpose in life.

Tears dripped down a worn-down path on his cheek as he remembered his past.

And then...

"Positive pulse and ability scored dropping." An automated voice said.

Percy screamed, pain racking through him as his connection with Code 703 destabilized, once again. Inside the Franxx, it was either you fail or you pass, you can't just get by with a mediocre connection with your partner. If you didn't have a stable, strong connection that couldn't be just broken easily then you were considered a failure.

And failures were sent back to the garden. Never heard of again.

"Timed out."

"Commencing stage six linking. Negative pulse detected."

"Positive pulse on standby... 3, 2, 1. TIMED OUT."

"Code 703, Code 016... You FAIL."

Children like them who were incompatible... were worthless.

The group trekked down the steps, transporting Code 002 to her next destination.

"––So do you have some sort of idea in mind?"

"By the way, is that all right, Nana?" The doctor said.

"Huh?"

"All that aside, I see that our problem child has already gone missing."

The group glanced down one of the corridors to spot a snarky Code 002 bidding them farewell.

"Damn it! She's running off again!"

The crew turned to see 002 turning into a lower corridor, waving them farewell with the tip of her cap.
