ExtraOrdinary: A Psychic's Tail
Prologue
Time & Date:
3:15 PM
July 21, Age 234
A middle-aged man runs across the halls of what appears to be a factory, full of excitement and anticipation of what he had just discovered after weeks of research. To ascertain his breakthrough, he rushes out of the building, places the files on the passenger seat, gets in the car, and drives to his house at high speed.
7:07 PM
The man manages to get home before it reaches midnight. He gets out of the car with the documents in hand, too full of excitement to bother parking it. Before he can enter the house, he comes to notice a crater in his backyard. Full of curiosity, he decides to investigate it. He was shocked to see what was in the heart of the crater.
Is that… a woman?! he thought.
This woman was in royal attire and had pointy ears, something he wouldn't find in a human. Regardless, he has a heart kind enough to try to help the unconscious woman.
Maybe that breakthrough can wait a while… the man thinks.
Upon coming to that decision, the scientist carries the woman to his home and tends to her wounds.
The next morning…
The unusual woman wakes up to find herself resting on the living room couch. She gets up and investigates her surroundings. She notices a plate of breakfast consisting of biscuits, eggs, and bacon.
"Oh, you're awake." the man says upon discovering that the woman is up. "I figured that you might be hungry. I fixed you some breakfast just for this situation."
The woman walks over to the dining room table and sits on the chair in front of the food. She looks silently before realizing something; human food wasn't in her diet.
"Ahem…" she says, catching the man's attention. "I appreciate your act of kindness, sir, but I would prefer to eat something… sweet if you have anything of that nature."
The man was flabbergasted at what he was hearing. "Sweets this early in the morning?!" he exclaims. He doesn't question the woman's strange tastes in food. "Alright, then, miss. If it's sweets you want, it's sweets you'll get."
The woman smiles. "Morgan le Fay…" she replies. "My name is Morgan le Fay. Might I know the name of the one who saved me?" The man blushes upon seeing Morgan's sweet smile.
"My name is Grayson," he responds. "Derrick Grayson."
May 4, Age 237
Derrick and Morgan are not only happily married, but they ended up having a child together; a beautiful healthy baby boy. The infant is the spitting image of his father, save for a few features. He inherited his mother's tsurime golden eyes and freckles. The parents are attempting to decide on a name.
"Australis?" Derrick asks.
"No," Morgan replies.
"Orion?"
"No."
"Beowulf!"
"No." Morgan chuckles at the third name.
"Betelgeuse."
"Be serious, Derrick." Morgan says. "We can't name our son after a celestial body in the sky."
"Why not?" Derrick replies. "They're all famous stars. I, for one, think that our son should have a freaking sweet name like them!"
"But this is our baby's name. It doesn't matter if it's famous." Morgan then proceeds to point out a mistake Derrick made a few seconds ago. "And also, Beowulf is a literary figure, not a celestial body. You always did suck at paying attention to plotlines."
Derrick droops, having given up at this point. "Fine, I give up. You name him."
Morgan giggles at her husband's goofiness. "You're cute when you're silly." She then grabs the baby and lifts him to the air. "Let's see… If I were to give our child a name that suits my sensibilities, it would be…" She ponders on a name to give her child, eventually coming to a decision. "How about… Garrett?"
"Garrett?" Derrick asks. "It sounds a bit like Derrick."
Morgan giggles again, holding the laughing baby close in her loving arms. "That's why I love that name. Don't you?"
Derrick sighs in agreement. "If you like that name so much, then so do I, dear…" He smiles warmly, seeing Morgan kissing the newly named Garrett on his freckled cheeks.
I wish I could tell you that this was the beginning of a humble yet happy family, ladies and gentlemen. Unfortunately, this is not that kind of a story, for this family's happiness is about to be cut short. Derrick and Morgan hear explosions outside.
"Morgan? What was that?" Derrick asks.
Morgan, knowing something her husband doesn't, doesn't answer that question. "Derrick?" she replies. "You said you were working on an escape pod, yes?"
"Um, of course I am, honey, but why do you ask that?" Derrick asks.
Morgan hands the sleeping Garrett to Derrick, fully trusting that he can keep the infant safe from harm. "I need you to take our son with you and put him in that pod."
Derrick was confused now, for he had no idea why his wife was making such a bizarre request. "Wait, why are you even-?" Before he can finish his question, Morgan gives him a passionate, loving kiss on his lips. She pulls back and smiles warmly.
"Trust me when I tell you that my request is to ensure the survival of our son."
Derrick silently nods and proceeds to leave through the back door.
"Be careful, Morgan." he says before closing the back door behind him.
"I will, my beloved. Now go." Morgan replies.
Now by herself in the emptiness that was her baby's room, she reverts to her true appearance; a pointy-eared being with large, elegant wings not unlike a butterfly, donning a white royal dress with a blue stone necklace. Her body is radiating a beautiful aura. At that moment, soldiers donning platinum armor kick down the door and surround Morgan.
"Morgan le Fay," one soldier says. "By the authority of your mother, Queen Titania, turn yourself and your hybrid child in."
"If Mother wants to have me, fine," Morgan says. "But make no mistake about this; NO ONE will have my child!"
Realizing that someone else had made off with the infant, the other soldier makes an intel comm. "All soldiers!" he yells. "Someone is on the run with the hybrid in tow! I repeat, someone is on the run with the hybrid in tow!"
Derrick is driving his car to the factory as fast as he can, with a sleeping Garrett in the backseat. He looks over to his son via a rearview mirror.
Don't worry, little buddy… he thought. Your momma will keep the both of us safe. I know this better than anyone.
Just when it is seemingly safe for him to slow down a bit, Derrick finds himself being attacked by soldiers shooting at him with magical weapons. They were flying to pursue him.
Crap, these guys caught up with me fast! Derrick thought.
At that moment, Morgan arrives at the scene and subjects the soldiers to a one-sided fight.
"Perhaps I didn't make myself clear the first time!" she yells. "NOBODY is going to bring harm to my baby boy!"
Heheh… looks as though my friends weren't bluffing… Derrick thinks as he watches the massacre. Wives CAN be scary when push comes to shove. Maybe I should leave already… With that decision made, the scientist drives off to the distance.
Morgan finishes subduing the remaining soldiers. "Was that all you had?" she asks. "What a disappointment, but I hope at the very least that you've learned your lesson."
At that very moment, a portal suddenly appears in the vast blue sky as if by magic. From that portal, a figure similar to Morgan descends to the ground. The white-clad warrior was filled with dread.
"M-Mother!" Morgan exclaims.
The woman that stands before her has lighter skin than Morgan and she lacks freckles. However, she has dark red hair, a pink royal dress, brown eyes, and angelic wings not unlike a butterfly. This woman is none other than Titania, the Queen the soldiers mentioned.
"Morgan le Fay," Titania says with a booming voice. "First, you have the gall to flee from home, and now you commit this blasphemy? The consequences will be severe, my dear daughter."
Meanwhile, Derrick manages to reach the factory unharmed. He feels as though he might make it out of this alive. He picks up the baby, who became startled enough to wake up, and carries him to the room where the prototype pod was being kept. He puts his son inside the pod and proceeds to do his scientist's magic to activate it. At that moment, Morgan and Titania suddenly burst into the lab, locked in a fierce battle. Morgan is a formidable fighter, but her mother is far more experienced. Derrick panics a bit from witnessing such a one-sided fight and speeds up his typing on the keyboard. The computer initiates the final approval, activating the escape pod his son is resting in. Thrusters start to fire up.
There. Derrick thought. That did the trick. Garrett, my son. I was hoping that I would get to watch you grow. Hear you call my name. However, that is tragically not the case. Given the current circumstances, I'm afraid that we'll have to part ways.
At that moment, a thin energy attack not unlike a Death Beam pierces through Derrick's chest, killing the scientist. Poor Garrett bears witness to such an atrocity and wails as loudly as a baby could.
Titania prepares to administer the killing blow to Garrett next. "Farewell, you filthy animal!" she growls.
Before she can let loose her attack, Morgan arrives and intercedes, saving her newborn.
"Morgan!" Titania yells. "Unhand me so I can kill this hybrid and save the Multiverse from his poison! Listen to your mother!"
Morgan refuses and attacks Titania with all the protective force a mother can display. "STAY AWAY FROM MY CHILD!" she cries out as she rams Titania out of the factory.
At that moment, the escape pod containing the infant launches to the sky, heading up into space and evacuating Garrett, thus ensuring his survival.
Morgan and Titania are still battling it out as the latter spots the pod, which is now beyond her reach. The Queen becomes furious, but Morgan looks on and gives out a sly smile.
It is done… Morgan thought. It appears that my husband's sacrifice was not for naught. Our time together may have been a brief one, my sweet boy, but I'll treasure these moments always… A tear flows down her right eye.
Titania clenches her fist, her fist radiating light. "You would dare to defy your mother's wishes, Morgan?!" she booms. "Your punishment has just been doubled, my dear daughter!" She slams her hand to the ground, causing the Earth to collapse.
Garrett, my son… Morgan thinks as the land around her becomes a fiery wasteland. I hope for the sake of the entire Multiverse that you end up on a planet with intelligent lifeforms. I pray that the natives can teach you, nurture you, so that you may grow into something quite… extraordinary.
As the pod flies out into the outer limits of space, Earth explodes. However, the human baby named Garrett Grayson is beyond Titania's reach. Many days pass as the pod flies across the vast ocean of stars until it eventually pinpoints a planet and proceeds to find a landing spot.
This planet has a unique beauty not unlike Earth. Unlike Earth, however, it is a dangerous planet that is not meant for the faint of heart, despite its trancing beauty. Also, its gravity was 40 times that of Earth. This planet is called Ivalor.
Somewhere, in a grassy plain, in a small home, a spider-like creature is cleaning up as another insectoid alien sleeps serenely in his room. The spider hears an explosion from outside. Driven by curiosity, she goes to investigate just what had found its way to Ivalor tonight. She spots billowing smoke and a crater on her left and walks to it. She discovers the escape pod and the wailing infant inside. Heartbroken by this discovery, she takes Garrett into her arms and she soothingly shushes the crying newborn.
In a bizarre response, Garrett calms down almost instantly and looks up to the spider. He smiles warmly and coos. The spider smiles in return.
"Don't you worry, little one." She says as she takes the baby into her home. "I'll take good care of you." She closes the door behind her.
As a comet blazes across the night sky of Ivalor, this fateful day serves as proof that the epic yet tragic tale of Garrett Grayson is about to begin...
