"Why is Kara allowed in meetings and not us?" Ron complained to his mother.
"Because Kara and Jax…."
"Speak of the devil." Ron cut her off, clearly annoyed.
Kara and Jax had walked in. Two 5th year Slytherins whom the three had quickly bonded with on their first day at Hogwarts, despite their house.
"Because we have more magical knowledge than you will ever obtain. We have seen places that it's impossible for you to see, and met people it's impossible for you to meet. We have met gods! Kings! The prophesied Chosen One is my twin brother!" Kara answered. There was no exaggeration in her voice. She was telling the complete truth.
"But you aren't related to Harry." Hermione said.
Kara smirked. "Not that Chosen One."
"Ron, they simply know a lot more than you do. They have a greater knowledge and understanding of more than just the Wizarding World. Or the Muggle World. Frankly, they know more than any of us. The entire Order has requested that they were in the meetings. They can give us more information about what's going on." Mrs. Weasley said, as calmly as she could. Then there was a loud crack, and Fred and George appeared.
"Oh enough of that!" Mrs. Weasley yelled at them. "Come on then." She said to Kara and Jax, a hint of frustration in her voice. She ushered them inside the dining room and sat them down, closing the door behind them.
"So, Waverly and Alex," Kingsley said. "Any information for us?"
"As far as I know," Kara answered. "The Dark Lord is amassing his forces, it's only a matter of time before he decides he has enough followers and attacks. We need to figure out how to get the Ministry on our side before that."
"I'm on board with you as always, Waverly," Jax said. "But you know as well as I do that the Ministry will never join us. They are blinded by the dark side."
"Alex, first of all, quit bringing Star Wars into this. I know what happened to my brother, and the force doesn't exist here." Kara said "Second, Moody, would it be possible to at least get the Aurors on our side?" She asked.
"No can do, princess. The aurors are loyal to the Minister of Magic. If we can't get Fudge on our side, then the entire Ministry will be of no help."
Outside, Harry, Ron, and Hermione were listening with the other Weasleys using Fred and George's Extendable Ears. And they had a lot of questions.
"This is going-" Sirius began, before Kara cut him off.
"Wait. They're listening."
"Who?" Mrs. Weasley asked, fearfully.
"Your kids." Kara answered. "I got this." An evil smile spread across her face, an idea forming in her mind.
She stepped outside of the room and snatched the ear. Bringing the ear up to her mouth, she yelled as loudly as she could, which was unbelievably loud. "QUIT LISTENING IN!"
She could hear shrieking upstairs as they rushed to their rooms. She waved her hand and created an illusion of Mrs. Weasley stomping up the stairs. Then she calmly walked back into the room, closing the door behind her with the Force. "Problem solved." she said calmly.
"Impressive." Sirius said.
"You ain't seen nothing yet." She answered cockily.
"Anyways!" Lupin said.
"Right. What should we do about the Ministry?" Sirius asked.
"The answer is simple. Wait till they actually see Voldemort, then maybe they'll believe us." Kara said.
"You saw him last year with Harry, what was he like?" Lupin asked.
"More snake than man now. No nose too, what's up with that? Also, what kind of a name is Voldemort? I've heard all kinds of villain names, even Enceladus, none of them were like this. Why?"
"Who knows?" Sirius said. The two shared a smile.
"Well, since we aren't getting anywhere, meeting adjourned." Lupin said. "Waverly?" he said, stopping her as she was standing up. "Can I talk to you for a moment?"
"O-Of course!" She answered, slightly nervous. They walked out into the hallway.
"I wanted to thank you for helping me in your third year. Werewolf transformations are excruciating. It's comforting to know that the person helping you through it is also safe."
Above them, Harry, Hermione, and the Weasleys had a lot of questions.
"It's alright. Glad to help. That's what I'm here for. Valuable for what I can do." She said, a hint of reproachfulness in her voice.
"Well, I must go, there's a werewolf and wizard couple in New York. I need to sort that mess out and warn the wizard about the dangers she might encounter."
"Alex Russo and Mason Greyback?"
"Yes. Mason is distantly related to Fenrir. He hates his family like Sirius though."
"I'll have to go there at some point."
"I'm off. Good luck."
There was a loud crack, and Lupin was gone. Kara began to walk up the stairs. She had barely made it to the top of the stairs when she was swarmed by questions from her fellow 5th years.
"What happened in our third year with Lupin?"
"What did he mean safe?"
"What's going on with the Ministry?"
"You were there with Harry?"
"Why did they call you and Jax different names?"
"Enough!" she screamed. A burst of magic flew out of her, knocking them back. She gasped in horror, and ran into her room. The others stood up and tried to enter, even using Alohomora, but she had completely locked the door. The questions were quickly forgotten, and they remained by her door, trying to get in.
They heard cries from her room. Then Jax pushed past them and went through the door. Without opening it. What?
Eventually, the cries quieted down. They heard Jax speaking to her, but they couldn't understand what he was saying. He seemed to be speaking gibberish. Then she responded in the same language. Ok what's going on?! They had known these two for five years, yet this was new.
Eventually the door opened and Jax walked out. They caught a glimpse of a woman with white and gold armor. Her head was covered by a white hood and her armor seemingly had a ring that glowed gold. Where did she come from? Where was Kara? Then the woman shifted into the girl with a zippered hoodie and blue jeans. Kara. Was Kara the woman? How has Kara not been arrested for improper use of magic like Harry? Kara waved her hand and the door closed.
A few days later, after Harry's hearing, Ron and Hermione got their prefect letters and badges. But not Harry. And not Kara and Jax. And Kara was furious. She was walking up and down the hallway muttering to herself.
"Why'd they pick Malfoy and Parkinson? Am I not good enough?! AGGGHHHH!"
In the middle of her rant, an owl flew in the window with two letters in its beak. It was one of the school owls. The letters were addressed to Kara and Jax. She snatched them up and handed Jax his letter. She slowly and calmly opened the letter. Just kidding. She ripped it open and yanked out the letter and read it out loud.
Dear Ms. Agiad
We are pleased to inform you that because of your advanced mastery of all classes, you have achieved the position of Head Girl. Your friend, Mr. Grayson, is the Head Boy. We trust that the two of you will do a wonderful job as Head Boy and Girl of Slytherin house. As well as the youngest Head Boy and Girl in the history of Hogwarts. Your badges are enclosed. Please arrive at the train early in the Head compartment and be prepared to give instructions to the new prefects.
Best of luck,
Minerva Mcgonagall
She was Head Girl. Kara was Head Girl. Jax was Head Boy. The two most important positions in Hogwarts for a student were theirs. This was a huge honor, especially for people their year.
Jax realized what this meant at the same time she did and they hugged.
Mrs. Weasley heard joyous screaming from the others and rushed in.
"What is it?"
"We're Head Boy and Girl!" Jax said excitedly. Kara stopped hugging him and tried to calm herself. She took a deep breath and spoke. "We need to calm down, as exciting as this is, we need to be professional. We've seen stuff like this before. Like we were elected to be on the council, or when we won the Olympics in Elis." She said, They both took a breath. "We are in charge of our entire house. We need to be models, and we need to give Malfoy, Crabbe, Goyle, and Parkinson plenty of detentions along with the rest of their gang." She said, a wicked smile forming on her face. But it was interrupted when the school book list arrived.
"Defensive Magical Theory?" Harry asked.
"Oh no." Jax said, looking at Kara. "It's this year."
"It's the fifth year, you seriously forgot what happens in their fifth year?"
"Well I-"
"Doesn't matter anyway. We can't stop it, all we can do is put up with it until after O.W.L.S."
They went back to reading, occasionally snapping their fingers, making the books appear out of thin air.
"Why can't you do that for us?" Ron asked.
"Continuity. There's a specific flow of time that we must follow so events proceed as written. If I disrupt the flow of time, I'm gonna get yelled at by the Watchers Guild. Which would be really awkward because I created the Watchers Guild." Kara answered.
"Huh. I totally understood that." Ron said sarcastically.
"She can't disrupt the flow of time or something that was supposed to happen won't." Hermione said, walking in.
"That made even less sense!" Ron said.
"Hold on!" Kara said. She summoned a book out of thin air and flipped through the pages to a part earlier in the book. The book was blue and old. It was a thick book with many pages, each inscribed with small words in clear print. "I don't think there's anything in here about them buying their books." She said, turning to Jax. She turned back around to them and snapped her fingers, their books appearing in a second. She handed the book to Jax. "Here. since you forgot what happens." He pushed it away.
"I didn't forget! I just…."
"Forgot?"
"Yeah…"
"Here." She handed over the book and he flipped through it.
"What book is that?" Hermione asked, curiously.
"Watcher manual. He forgot about the rules." Kara lied. She couldn't tell Hermione that this was a book about her. The Order of the Phoenix. It was a book about all of them. And they couldn't know what would happen.
A few days later, Kara and Jax went down to board the train early. The other Heads glared at them. Only because they were Slytherin. Kara felt her anger rise up in her. She wanted Slytherin! She was brilliant and cunning and powerful. Then she felt Jax's hand in hers, and her internal inferno calmed to a simple campfire. The Heads saw that they were smiling at them and their glares relaxed. These two weren't stereotypical Slytherins, nor should they be treated differently because they were Slytherin. Kara and Jax sat down and everyone introduced themselves.
The heads of Ravenclaw were named Jasmine and Carter Aniro. Two siblings who worked their way from the ground up. Gryffindor's heads were named lndira Jaroni and Barry Karin. They had a laugh about Barry's last name before continuing. Finally, Hufflepuff's Heads were Annalise Hardin and David Oniro. Two students who had persevered despite being constantly told by Malfoy and his gang that their house is the reject house.
The group quickly bonded and talked a little bit before the prefects came in. They all introduced themselves and got to know each other before giving out instructions. After a few minutes, the only ones who didn't hate Malfoy and Párkinson were Malfoy and Parkinson. The heads gave the instructions and the prefects were ready to go. They still had about a half hour before they arrived at the school.
Finally, the prefects left and the heads were free to chat. "I can't believe I got Malfoy and Párkinson!" Kara moaned. "They are the absolute worst!" Jax added. "Hermione is great, it's Ron I'm worried about. He's too much of a slacker." Indira complained. "We've got some interesting prefects this year." Annalise said. After chatting for a bit, they resolved to play cards until they arrived. After some deliberation, they resolved to play the muggle game Kimps. Basically, if they got four of the same cards they send a secret preplanned message to their partner, who responds by saying Kimps, winning the round. But if someone sees the signal before the partner can say Kimps, they can say Block Kimps, winning the round. There's a little bit more to it but that's the gist of it.
They partnered up. The partners were intermixed between houses. Indira with Carter, Annalise with Barry, Jasmine with Jax, and Kara with David. They telepathically created signals and fake signals, decided on Kara being the dealer, and the game began. They weren't allowed to use magic throughout the game, which made it difficult for the others.
The first round went pretty quickly. A decisive win for Kara and David. The next round took longer. The cards didn't seem to be in their favor, until Indira made a strange movement with her hand. In a split second, Kara said "Block Kimps!" before Carter could form the words. The round was over. Annalise and Barry won the next, then Jasmine and Jax. Then Kara and David again. Then finally Indira and Carter won a point, right as they were pulling into the station.
They laughed as they exited their compartment and made their way to the Thestral Carriages. Naturally, Kara and Jax had both seen many, many people die, so they could see the Thestrals. They had been able to see the Thestrals their entire time at Hogwarts. But apparently the other heads hadn't seen anyone die yet.
They separated into their carriages and were taken away. Kara and Jax sat there. Staring at the castle. "It's so peaceful. It's weird that in a few years, this place will be mostly destroyed by war." Kara said. "This year starts that. I-I'm scared Alex. I can't lose anyone else."
"Our journey has only just begun, Waverly. There's still so many more losses coming. Especially when we're finally given the mission to search for the Great Alpha. We just have to come to the same resolve your sister has. You just have to push through it."
"You're right. Thanks."
They snuggled for the entire ride. Finally they arrived at the castle. The 8 heads took their places at the front of the tables and prepared for the sorting. Eventually, the other students filed into the room, dividing amongst the four house tables. Malfoy and Parkinson near the front with Kara and Jax. A disgusted look formed on her face, but it quickly disappeared when the first years arrived.
The sorting commenced. She applauded loudly for the new additions to her house, and clapped politely for the additions to the other houses. Then Dumbledore stepped up to the podium. He introduced Hagrid's temporary replacement, as well as the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. Dolores Umbridge. Who then proceeded to give a speech which could be summed up in one sentence. The ministry is attempting to take over Hogwarts.
After the feast was over, she guided the students back to the Slytherin Common Room. Once rules were established, she climbed up the stairs into the room specifically designated to the Head Girl. Jax's room was next to hers. She flopped down onto her bed, exhausted. Snapping her fingers, she changed into a comfortable shirt with leggings, rolled over, and went to sleep.
The next morning, she had the same classes as the Golden Trio. Transfiguration, Charms, Potions, History of Magic, Astronomy, Divination, and Defense Against the Dark Arts. The day passed relatively slowly. Just like it always had. Nothing had really changed. Until Defense Against the Dark Arts.
Umbridge's class was by far the most interesting class. Not because it was fun. Because it was so downright horrible that Kara dared not find the right word to describe it. That's how terrible Umbridge was. Her classes were hellish nightmares. She wasn't torturing them. Physically. She was breaking them down and completely restricting magic in her class. The worst part was, Harry dared speak up against her.
Look, no one has accused Harry of being incredibly brilliant. Ok maybe they have. But daring to stand up to a teacher who, Kara knew, would force him to engrave " I must not tell lies" on the back of his hand. And he dared to speak up. Umbridge is just gonna make everything worse because Harry attempts to take action.
Long story short, Harry argued with Umbridge, Umbridge denied everything he said and gave him detention. Nothing new. Kara didn't dare defend Harry, even though she saw Voldemort herself. Umbridge would just make things much worse on everyone in the school.
And how right she was. Within a few weeks, Umbridge appointed herself "Hogwarts High Inquisitor." Stating: "Things at Hogwarts are far worse than I feared. The Minister will want to take action." Kara had seen many inquisitors. Even killed some. They were basically Sith Lords in training. None of them were as bad as Umbridge. Even with their lightsabers, they didn't compare to how awful Umbridge was.
Umbridge continued to enforce strict rules. And Dumbledore wasn't doing anything. It infuriated Kara. But she kept quiet.
