Alma sighed exasperatedly as she examined the food-lined shelves of Englewood Grocery store.

Why do people need so many options? she thought bitterly as she observed a line of cereal brands. She picked up a box of Cheerios and dropped it into her cart.

She pushed her cart further down the isle, dropping a few cans of baked beans and tomato soup into her cart as well. She checked her list and, satisfied that she had all she came for, made her way back to the checkout lane

Once she had paid and loaded her groceries into a bag, she walked briskly out the sliding doors. Relieved to have escaped from the claustrophobic nightmare of the store, Alma almost didn't notice a biker that was heading straight for her. At the last moment, Alma turned her head and lept out of the way as the biker hurtled by her.

In her haste to avoid the careless biker, she crashed into the person behind her and both of them tumbled to the ground. Alma cried in pain as she landed, hard, on her knee.

"I am so, so sorry," Alma stammered through a haze of pain as she hastily tried to pulled herself together.

"Never mind about me, I'm fine. Are you alright?" questioned the woman as she helped Alma gather her things.

"I've had worse," she said off-handedly as the young woman helped Alma to her feet. But Alma's injured knee refused to hold her weight and buckled. The girl caught Alma before she fell and helped her to a bench next to the store.

"Looks like you hurt your knee pretty badly," the woman stated as she examined Alma torn pants. Alma couldn't speak. She felt as though her tongue had glued to the roof of her mouth.

The woman who saved her had long locks of golden hair. Her eyes were a light blue and there was a light sprinkle of freckles across her cheeks. She was so beautiful that Alma could do nothing but admire her.

"Umm, are you okay?"

The woman's voice snapped Alma out of her momentary trance.

"What? Oh! Yes, I'm fine, just my knee," Alma said quickly, while mentally shaking herself for being distracted.

"We really need to get that knee of your patched up and soon," the lady said, gesturing towards Alma's bleeding wound. "There's a clinic nearby where I can bandage your knee," the woman said as she helped Alma to stand.

"Thank you," Alma said gratefully. "Miss...?"

"Hawthorn. Alice Hawthorn."

"Alma Peregrine, delighted to meet you."
