"Ugh…"

Soft… the surface beneath him was so soft… and he felt so warm…

With slow but deliberate blinks, Rex began to open his eyes, his vision only slowly beginning to adjust to the light inside of the small room he found himself in. His entire body felt as though it was wrapped in cotton, almost tempting him to simply stay put and never move a single inch. His mind felt hazy, and despite how much he was trying, he couldn't truly grasp any clear thoughts in his head…

… something had happened, but… what was it again…?

However, it was then that a sudden image burned in his mind, pushing aside any other thought in an instant. An image of a certain someone that almost instinctively caused his heart to pound in his chest.

"Pyra…! Where-"

His breath caught in his throat once his eyes settled upon the figure that was resting mere inches away from him, and it was then that he realized that he was situated upon a comfy bed. Every single concern and fear melted away once he witnessed her peaceful expression while she slept, her breathing calm and regular. And even though she was asleep, she was wearing a sweet smile upon her lips, one that was purely directed at him.

One after another, all of the memories started to come back to him, images surging through his mind without pause and along with it, an endless stream of feelings and emotions began to flood his entire being. The ritual…

… slowly but surely, Rex lowered his head and directed his eyes upon his chest. And there it was, the gentle but lively glow of a certain core crystal emitting from his chest, along with its counterpart and origin that was resting within Pyra herself.

Until suddenly, a stirring sound tore Rex out of his thoughts.

With a few blinks of her eyes, Pyra slowly awakened from her slumber as well, and before Rex knew it, her eyes fixated upon his own as the very first thing she witnessed when she awakened. For they were still curled together, having been facing the other even while they had both been asleep for who knows how long.

And thus, they both wordlessly gazed at the other for a long moment, one in which their memories slowly but surely caught up with them both and reminded them of what they had previously been through.

"Rex…", Pyra was the first to break the silence between them, and the mere sound of her voice caused Rex to gasp, utterly taking his breath away. Something within him had stirred, and he could feel so many emotions and sensations at once… of joy, warmth, happiness…

And not all of them originated from him.

Rex was taken aback once more when Pyra's eyes wandered down to his chest, and slowly but surely, she reached out a hand before she gently touched it, her fingers carefully gliding upon its surface. And her eyes lidded with pure joy.

They had been through so much together… and now here they were. And her final wish had been granted.

She could feel his emotions, his feelings and sensations… she delighted in the knowledge that a part of herself was now residing within him once more.

"We really made it, didn't we? Honestly, I'm happy to be able to bear a part of your core crystal once again.", the words of her driver caused her to look back into his eyes, and the mere genuineness within them all but caused her heart to swell. He always had the innate ability to melt all of her fears away, didn't he? Once more, she felt so silly for having feared the possibility of him not wanting to share her core crystal again, even if it was possible…

Pyra said nothing as she wordlessly reached both of her hands up towards his cheeks, effectively rendering her driver silent as it caused Rex to tense slightly, especially once she inched even closer towards him. Utterly oblivious to any intention Pyra might have, Rex couldn't do anything but stare into her lidded eyes as she gazed at him in return, the warmth of her hands all but caressing his cheeks while her fingers traced along his skin.

Her entire being felt as though it was on fire, and her feelings were burning her from within, never ceasing in the slightest. She wanted to be with him, she wanted to hold him, she wanted to never let him go…

… thus, despite his uneasiness and the tension within himself, Rex almost instinctively closed his eyes the moment Pyra inched closer to him-

-until suddenly, her hands slid away from his cheeks and intertwined with his own, pinning his arms against the sheets beneath him with a surprising amount of strength.

And before he knew it, Pyra was on top of him as she hovered above his chest, pinning him down beneath her as he opened his eyes again with no small amount of shock.

"P-Pyra…? What are you…?", his almost frail voice was silenced the moment Pyra wordlessly placed a single finger against his lips, gently shushing him. As she did so, his heart was beginning to hammer against his chest, and the close contact, along with the way Pyra was keeping him pinned… he felt… he felt…

He could almost not contain the burning of his cheeks as he stared into her eyes. She had never been so bold, what was she doing…?

But unbeknownst to him, Pyra knew exactly what she was doing. The tension between them could almost be felt. They could both feel it. Yes, she wanted to be close to him. But all of this was not enough. She wanted to be closer to him than anything else in this world.

Rex couldn't stop himself as he closed his eyes the moment Pyra lowered her head to place her lips against his left cheek, slowly, almost painfully lingering upon his skin with so much tenderness that it sent a shiver down his spine.

Internally reveling in the way Rex was melting beneath her touch, Pyra couldn't contain herself anymore, knowing that she was the cause of it, knowing that it was her who made him feel this way. Of simply wanting to go limb beneath her…

"I adore you, you know…", again, a gasp escaped Rex's lips as she moved up from his cheeks, brushing her lips against his forehead before she placed another, tender kiss against his skin.

"We have been through so much together… I don't know any more joyful memories than the ones I had the chance to forge with you, Rex. You have been a bright light in my life ever since you entered it, and looking back upon it, you were the first thing I saw when I truly stepped out into the world. You are my world…"

"But you are as well… without you, I never would have stepped out into this world ever again!", for the briefest of moments, Pyra stopped in her tender acts of affection, her lips hovering a mere inch over his skin just before it formed into a loving smile. And before Rex knew it, she went lower and kissed his left eyelid while he kept his eyes still shut.

"All the more, I believe in it that you and I were meant to meet each other…", she planted another chaste kiss against his right eyelid, and she could almost feel his heartbeat against her chest. But she did not stop there.

A bright future was waiting for them both. One that connected them both together, without the fear of ever being torn apart.

Again, she moved until her lips were just about hovering over his own, and Rex could feel her warm breath tingling upon his skin.

"I love you, Rex…", claiming his lips with her own, she sealed their love with a passionate kiss until she slowly but surely parted. And it was then that their eyes met once again.

It was true, it was all not enough. And with the knowledge that now, nothing would tear them apart anymore…

… she wanted to be one with him.
