Note(s); So, there are stories that I created with another FF user account, which I now no longer have access to. Due to no longer being able to access the email address associated with it. Which caused me to use the one I have now. And I am now going back and slowly going to start one there that I had yet to finish. Although, will be putting a certain rating for things to happen further in the story. And of course, have the Four Horsemen. But since limited to the number of characters can add, only put these. Rating is due to things yet to happen (sex, etc.) Non-slash, as implied. (And Henley and Daniel will be together, though it will be completely glossed over; due to the duration being so short). But a little longer than the two movies indicated.
She has been going through the garbage, hoping to find her latest meal. And if not, it could be a while before she finds another opportunity. Luckily, she has yet to be picked up; for as long as she can recall she has been on her own. Falling through the cracks in society's system; and the structure of what happens to unwanted children. But for the moment, none of this matters; for she is so absorbed in what she is doing. Failing to register the man is almost upon her; and the only time that she will ever be caught unawares again.
He has traveled alone for almost twenty-two years; ever since he became a legal adult (18). Always landing on his feet, something he learned long ago, being an unwanted child; never being fostered nor adopted. Simply watching and observing, traits that he will benefit from; but for now, he is learning the artifices his dad had been able to teach him. With the time for him to start putting his plan in motion taking fruit.
Finding himself in Tampa, Florida, where he happens upon the girl child. Not knowing how much she will come to change his life. His main focus at the moment is just have barely escaping the person he stole money from. But life's trajectory changes the course he is on, as he rounds the corner. Halting his movements as he collides with the pint-sized person. And since he hadn't anticipated someone standing there, he quickly falls over, taking her with him.
Immediately getting up, he stares at the girl. Staring down at her, she hasn't bothered to move. And is watching him in return. "You just going to stay there and not move, kid?" "Why, it is just a matter of time before I succumb to my situation." "Clearly, you are a survivor; so why would you say that and just give up?!" She starts to sit up.
"Well, look at me. I am small enough for sick person to pick up. And no one would miss me. The lack of a proper diet has left me underdeveloped, physically." "But clearly, it hasn't affected your mental capacity. I am guessing you taught yourself to read. And based on your size, you are about ten?!" "Close, I am nine; or I will be." "So then, you remember your life before?!" "No. I just made up a day for myself. But if I think hard enough, I can picture her face and smile just barely. And how did you do that?!"
Bending down to where he is kneeling in front of her, "I am definitely not a doctor. But I do know that from what you told me; it might be possible for your malnourishment to be reversed." Her wariness has the caution in her move slowly still. He eases up, standing up once more. Before he slowly makes another move.
Reaching his hand out, "you aren't the only one who has had to survive; wondering where your next meal is going to come from, if there would have ever even be another one?!" An apple appears in the hand facing her, the next moment. Continuing to look at her with uncertainty, "well gone on; I am pretty sure you are really hungry at this point?!" Her mentality and physicality war with each other. Her skepticism still evident, while her stomach growls desperately.
The hope in her eyes begins to dawn as she stops her hand from taking it, before looking up at him. "How did you do that?!" Finally grabbing it and quickly taking a bite. "Take it easy there you don't want to choke. I know it isn't easy after being deprived of food for so long. But if you agree, this isn't something you will have to worry about any longer."
Stopping, the fruit halfway to her mouth. "So, how did you learn then?" "My father and lots and lots of practice. I could teach you as well?! You are just going to have to trust me, and come with me?!" The trust a child has is overridden by her front, in order to survive. 'I am so tired of fighting. He does have a point. I will have a roof over my head now. And food to keep me going. And if it is just a ruse, well at least, I won't die alone someone on a cold and dirty abandoned street; or from slowly starving to death?! But what is it is a ruse; and he is just another sick person, luring me with fallacies?!'
Her hand is in his before she can stop herself. Picking her up, he begins walking. Her head looks back at this new vantage point. As the two put their pasts behind them the best and only way they can. She places her head on his shoulder. "Where are we going then?!" "To my apartment." "What do you do?!" Placing his lips toward her ear, "I have recently become an FBI agent. But what I really want to do is…This is only between us, okay?!"
She nods her head. "Good, we're here." He places her back down; but hasn't released her hand. She looks up. Her mouth opening slightly in amazement. "Wow! You live here?!" "I do. And if you are still willing to take the offer; so to will you from here on out?!" He begins to move forward at her silence. Halting feeling the pressure on his hand, turning to see that she hasn't moved. And is still looking at the structure.
He slightly smiles. Moving forward before bending down, kneeling, to look up at her. "I get that you are scared. And that this will just turn out to be a trick. I get it. Something similar happened to me. It is why I have chosen what I told you, after I found out the truth." "Slowly beginning to starve brought about this change?!" "Not exactly. I will tell you one day. But for sure not here, come on." The two enter the building. His mind traveling to that particular memory, he had found out the truth. A faraway look that doesn't pass her.
(slight change)
Closing the door, she quickly makes her way to the couch. He sits next to her. Turning to him, "what is your name anyway?!" "Dylan Rhodes. Though, it used to be…And that is another secret, I am going to need you to keep." She nods her head. "Is there also a chance you remember your name as well?" She looks down at this. Cupping her chin, he turns it to face him.
"Hey, it will be okay. I could give you a name. Or you can come up with one yourself?!" Looking at him earnestly, "well, okay then. Let me, see?!" The two remain in silence never looking away from the other. "Oh, I know, how about Sylvia Davenport-Hawkins?" "Um, okay?!" Having picked up on the unspoken question.
"Davenport is based on Ira and William. They were brothers who focused on illusions in the late 19th century. And Hawkins, well given what we are going to do; you are going to be my eyes and ears when I will be busy. And I know you can do it. You have already demonstrated that you notice more than most." She sits in his lap.
"How could you tell?!" "The look in your eyes. I have seen it more than enough." Turning his back to her, "so Sylvia Davenport-Hawkins, we just need to make it official now. What do you think?!" Seeing that she is asleep, her head resting on the crook of her arms. He smiles. The feeling of knowing he is no longer alone and the elation it brings indescribable to him. As the emotion continues to course through him.
Her head is bent over the desk when she hears the voice, on the fringe of her consciousness. "Hmm, what?!" "Sylvia." "What is it, Dylan?" She gets up to see what he wants. "You have been with me for almost six years. I have trained you well enough. And made sure you got the best education short of having enrolled you in a private institution. Which would have made things harder with how thorough the process can be to get in. And harder to leave once everything has been set up.
"Dy?! So, then you are telling me, the time is almost here." "Yes. The web that I have been spinning is almost complete." "And you are sure we won't get caught?" "Well, there is always that chance. Though it is so slim. This has been too well thought out. The only thing that could ruin it at this point would be emotions. Human nature is the only thing that isn't concrete. Emotions can and will be a double-edged sword."
Looking down, she slowly nods her head. Raising it again, tears begin developing in her eyes. Stepping closer to him, "you have to promise me; you will be careful." Closing the gap, he leans his forehead against hers. "You must do the same. And what is expected of you?!"
Placing her hands behind his head, she pulls him to her. The kiss is passionate but short. Each pulling away, knowing time is running out for them. Both walking in the direction their plans will take them. Neither not bothering to turn around, knowing that if they do; it might change everything.
