Title: "The Owl House"
Rating: PG (Musical, Comedy, Some Horror Elements, Adventure)
Runtime: 1 hour 32 minutes
Release Date: January 10, 1997
*The movie's plot follows the first season's story arc but with a darker take while only focusing Eda's curse and takes place within the span of three days. Elements from four episodes of season one makes up the entire film; Those being "The Lying Witch and the Warden", "The Intruder", "Agony of a Witch", and "Young Blood, Old Souls".*
Synopsis: "Luz Noceda accidentally enters a world filled with magic & creatures alike while meeting Eda the Owl Lady & her dog-like companion, King. To save this strange world along with her own home from the evil Emperor Belos, Luz must uncover the secrets of magic and the Boiling Isles in order to save the day!"
How the movie will be different than the show:
1.) Instead of having to go to the Reality Check Camp because her weirdness, Luz is being sent because she has pulled a some over-the-top pranks on teachers and students alike. The only incident from the show that happens in the movie is Luz putting spiders in her "anatomically correct" baby griffin.
2.) Amity's family won't be seen in the film, but her older twin siblings will be mentioned.
3.) Luz, Eda, and King and others will be in her beta designs.
4.) Eda will be fully cured and will still be able to preform magic instead of having her curse shared with Lilith.
5.) Emperor Belos will die near the end. His death would be caused by Luz.
6.) A redeemed Lilith will become the new Emperor at the end and clears Eda's name of any wrongdoings, ending the years long hunts for her head.
7.) Hexside will only be seen in the background while Principle Bump will only be mentioned.
8.) Luz will still learn the light spell by seeing the glyphs in the spell circle Eda produced. Though since this movie is based in a decade where cellphones with cameras haven't been invented yet, Luz would have to use a old camera she found in Eda's house.
9.) Unlike the show, blood will be seen in the film. Nothing extreme or gory, just a usual thin line of red that's usually seen in other Disney films.
Characters:
Luz Noceda: Fourteen-years-old with a creative imagination and a heart of gold. Can sometimes be stubborn when it comes to following directions, but makes it up with her selflessness and bravery. Sometimes tries to act tough and hard, but is really a teddy bear inside & out. Secretly has trouble with self-confidence and wants to learn magic to not only better her life, but to also make her mom proud. Has brought possessions over from the human realm such as a change of clothes, a pair of walkie talkies, and a walkman CD player.
Eda Clawthorne: "The Strongest Witch in the Isles", either this is self-proclaimed or an official statement, Eda lives by it. Is wanted for rebelling against the Emperor and not joining a coven. Despite her rebellious nature and bad girl attitude, Eda is genuinely a good person who just wants to be left alone. She quickly befriends Luz and takes her under her wing as the latter's mentor. Eda is also harboring a dark curse which turns her into a hideous owl beast. It's revealed that Eda's sister, Lilith, is the one who cursed her but is cured.
King: A dog-like demon with gold-colored fur and what appears to be a skull on his head who's roommates with Eda. Incredibly feisty and sometimes self-absorbed, King is always ready to help his friends when needed.
Lilith Clawthorne: Older sister of Eda who's the strict, no-nonsense captain of the Emperor's Coven. Despite her usual sour scowls and loyalty to the Emperor, Lilith is far from being a villain. She has suffered heavy weights of guilt for years after cursing her little sister out of greed and has regretted it ever since. After realizing that Emperor Belos was never going to cure Eda and instead turn her into stone (along with realizing just how bad he really is), the good side of Lilith won over which caused her to betray the Emperor by curing Eda herself. By the end, Lilith becomes the Empress and gets to work reversing the damage caused by Belos.
Kikimora: The Emperor's assistant who has a deep obsession for her boss and treats him like a god. After Belos' defeat, Kikimora avoids capture and retreats into the wilderness to strike another day.
Emperor Belos: The cruel and demanding emperor of the Boiling Isles. Plots to control all magic and to enact the "Day of Unity" with Luz's home involved. Dies near the end of the film during the final battle against Luz.
Willow Park: A nice girl with plant-based magic who happily befriends Luz despite her being human and gives her a tour of the Boiling Isles. Is regularly harassed by Amity Blight and her friends.
Augustus 'Gus' Porter: Willow's best friend. He also befriends Eda despite her being human and helps Willow give her a tour. It's revealed that he has illusion magic.
Amity Blight: Youngest child of the Blight family. Very popular and a bully who mostly targets Willow. But is there more to Amity than meets the eye?
Camila Noceda: Luz's mom. Loves her daughter to pieces but wishes she wasn't so... unique.
Similarities to the show:
1.) Luz will meet Gus and Willow, but they won't play major roles in the film. They will however give her a tour of the Isles.
2.) Lilith is still the one who cursed Eda and will turn her back on Belos after learning that he never truly meant to cure Eda's curse like promised.
3.) Amity will appear and antagonize Willow. She will also play a very small role in the film while hardly pay any mind to Luz.
4.) The events of "The Lying Witch and the Warden" will take place within the first part of the movie, albeit at a quicker pace.
5.) The events of "The Intruder" would happen in the film, but would end quicker. This is when we learn more about Eda's curse and Luz preforms a light spell for the first time.
6.) The events of "Agony of a Witch" and "Young Blood, Old Souls" will happen at the climax of the film but with major differences.
7.) Camila wanting to send Luz off to reality check camp and the latter following Owlbert through the portal still happens.
8.) Similar to "Young Blood, Old Souls", Luz will destroy the portal that's her ticket home to halt Belos' plans which the movie will end with her trying to find a way home, thus leading to the tv series (more on that later).
Cast:
Note: Some characters will have more than once choice voice actor/actress and I went with some from the 90s as well and I used examples from some of the VA's roles to help you imagine them as these characters. Also, I've tried the best I could on this, but feel free to say which actor would've done better in these roles than what I have listed and I'll add them when I can.
Note #2: I had a hard time trying to find female voice actors for Luz and Camila. It's not that I couldn't "find" any, but I wanted to be respectful and find two that are of latina decent instead of using actresses who aren't. So if anyone could help me with this slight issue and give me suggestions in the reviews, that would be much appreciated.
Luz Noceda: Melissa Gilbert
Eda Clawthorne: Susan Egan, Cameron Diaz.
King: Thom Adcox-Hernandez, Billy Eichner.
Lilith Clawthorne: Diane Pershing, Christine Baranski.
Emperor Belos: James Earl Jones, Jeremy Irons.
Kikimora: June Foray.
Amity Blight: Francesca Marie Smith.
Willow Park: Kellie Martin.
Augustus 'Gus' Porter: Brandon Adams.
Camila Noceda: Shakira (suggested by Adricat123)
Hooty: Wayne Allwine (voice of Mickey Mouse through 1977-2009) I know this is an odd choice, but I thought it would be a fun little nod for Hooty to share the same voice as the face of Disney.
Memorable/Iconic scene:
Every Disney film has this. For Owl House; it would be Luz, Eda, and King looking down on the isles while sitting on Eda's staff. Another is when Lilith is curing Eda's curse.
Belos' death:
I have a few ideas for how Belos would meet his demise at the end of the film.
1.) Luz would copy down glyphs of fire magic which she found earlier and use it against Belos, igniting him to flames.
2.) Lilith would transfer the curse to Belos which would cause him to become a beast himself. In mindless rage, Belos tries to attack Luz only to miss and crash through the wall, falling down to the spikes surrounding his castle below (not shown obviously).
3.) A mix between #1 and #2.
Belos' true face:
What Belos' face looks like in the canon show is unknown but we know that he might be someone important. As for the 1990's Debut AU, Belos' face reveal can go like this:
1.) His face is implied to be horribly disfigured/deformed as during his fight with Luz and he's either in-unintentionally unmasked, Luz gasps in shock.
2.) It just remains a mystery.
This it it for now. Next chapter will involve the music numbers you would find in an average Disney film.
