In Hallow Spirits #5

Asami had to force herself to keep straight face. Her lips were thinned out in a flat line and her eyebrows were twitching involuntarily. Why might one ask? Well, the answer was simple. She was completely engrossed with enjoying Korra's adorable and ecstatic reactions because it was her first time riding a steam engine train.

After they had left the hospital, they had opted to travel to the Republic Witches Academy via train rather than taking a portal. The reason being the magical energy might be rough for someone who just recovered. Asami still wasn't at her best state and was still somewhat groggy in the head. However, Korra on the other hand, was quite the opposite as if she was an ecstatic child riding a broomstick for the very first time.

In all honesty, Asami could practically see Korra's tail wagging energetically back and forth even if it wasn't actually sticking out. Her eyes as well, they were practically glued to the window. From the moment they had boarded the train and begun moving, Korra hadn't left the window side and it's been well more than an hour now.

Opal giggles before swatting her hand aimlessly. "Korra, haven't you had enough of staring out the window yet? It's been well more than an hour since we left the station.

Oh how much Asami wished Korra had half transformed so she could enjoy or pet that fluffy tail or ears again.

Korra doesn't bother turning around. "Of course! I've never seen something this cool before! Werewolves usually travel by foot so I've never ridden a car let alone a train! Who knew they would be so cool!" She beams with the brightest smile out there. "I don't think I'll ever get tired of this! I mean look at it! We're running on magic train tracks in the sky!"

Dito… Asami couldn't help but think. Not like she'd admit it out loud of course but she was fairly certain that her eyes hadn't left Korra's profile either. At times, she would occasionally peek over at Opal to make sure that she wouldn't notice her staring at Korra but, fortunately for her, Opal was busy texting Bolin most of the ride. Meaning… she wasn't going to waste this golden opportunity since they had all the time in the world until this train reached RWA to enjoy this wonderful sight.

"In that case, you should enjoy it while it lasts. Magic trains usually don't take that long to reach the capital. I think we should be arriving in about ten minutes or so. Oh! Speaking of which, how much do you know about Republic Witches Academy Korra?" Opal inquires as she follows in her lead, watching the mountain pass through the window.

Asami wasn't paying attention whatsoever. Oh. My. Spirits. I can't believe I didn't notice earlier! Korra has baby fangs, it's so adorable!

"Mmh… well whatever I saw at that time I was there as a wolf. That and uh… what else was there." Her mouth widens at a passing tiger bird before she refocuses on the question. "Ah and that's right, it's one of the world's biggest academies for witches and wizards."

Opal nods her head in agreement. "That's correct but it's actually more well known for being one of the three academic cities in the world. The main campus is separated from the city of course but the moment you leave it, you'll be surrounded with a bunch of magic shops, cafes, clothing stores, you name it! My personal favorite though has to be the Wan Shi Tong Library, it may be located on RWA but it's still open to the public, right Asami?"

"..." her thoughts were focused elsewhere.

"Asami?"

Gasping softly, Asami quickly snaps her eyes at her friend. "Sorry, what'd you say?"

Opal crosses her arms with a pout. "You weren't listening were you!"

She gives her a guilty smile. "Sorry…"

Her friend rolls her eyes. "Well whatever, your head is probably still muddy from the poison but as I was saying! If we talk about RC's famous tourist spots, the Wan Shi Tong Library is one of them!"

"Aah…" Asami readjusts her body by crossing her legs. "Yeah definitely. It's the biggest library in the world actually but it's really more famous for the animals that live there."

Korra finally tears her eyes away from the window to look at Asami. "Animals live there?"

She nods back. "Yup. Believe it or not, it is said that those animals are bound to the library master who lives there, Wan Shi Tong. They travel across the world in his stead and bring back new information and knowledge from their adventures. Of course, no one has ever seen him but rumors have it that he is a great owl that is the size of a two story house! It's actually one of our academy's seven wonders."

Humming softly, Korra smiles before turning back to the window. "That sounds cool." She then laughs happily when she sees a hummingbird mouse.

Opal suddenly snaps her fingers. "Oh my Raava! We so have to take Korra to the Howling Castle then"

"Howling Castle?" Korra repeats to show them that she was still listening.

"Yeah! If you love the magic train, you're gonna die for this place!" She drums her thighs before dramatically announcing, "It's a castle in the sky!"

"What?" Scrunching her face, Korra turns to look at her with disbelief. "Buildings don't float, let alone castles…?"

Opal tsks while wagging her finger. "The Howling Castle is the only exception to that. Another one of our city's seven wonders! Even after years and years of research, no one can figure out why and how the castle floats!"

"Hmm…" Korra finally steps back from the window before taking a seat next to Asami.

Asami tensed up slightly as her heart began beating faster as butterflies flew around in her stomach.

"So how big exactly is Republic City, probably huge right? I know that it's one of the most astoundingly diverse cities out there but that's kind of about it. World's number one trading city as they say."

Swallowing slightly, Asami found herself breathing harder as she stared at Korra's neck. For some reason, her body was getting hot just sitting next to her and she didn't know why. What's wrong with me? Why am I feeling this way? I know I'm attracted to Korra and all… she admits embarrassingly to herself, But still, why do I feel so… off.

"Yes and no, that's actually a common misconception you know. Republic City technically isn't that big. The earth kingdom has several cities bigger than us actually but the influence and power that we have stretches over the entire world, making us feel 'bigger' than we seem if that makes sense. Not to mention our connection with all the different species out there."

"Ahh…" Korra rubs her neck, "Guess that makes sense then, hmm… in that case, I'm getting more and more excited then!" She blinks before a realization hits her. "Wait a sec, if that's the case, are there really no shapeshifters in the academy?"

Opal just shakes her head sadly. "Nope. Quite a surprise right? I've heard rumors that they might start enrolling in other races soon though, My aunt is actually on the board because she's the chief of the city's guards so I heard from her that the problem has to do with creating a curriculum for you guys. You know, because the academy only teaches magic but you guys can't use it so…"

Korra hums in understanding. "That's a shame, we can still feel magic...or well, rather than feel it, we can feel the shift in energy." Opal gives her a confused blank look before she quickly expands. "Like we can sense if water is suddenly gonna spout upright or if fire is gonna come shooting at us. I don't know how to explain it but I guess it has to do with our animal instincts or sixth sense. You know, like how animals can preemptively feel if an earthquake or tornado is coming."

"Ah... true, that makes sense I guess." A few seconds pass before Opal quickly snaps her fingers. "Oh! Come to think of it, I guess in a way, you're gonna be the first test runner for the future then huh Korra?"

She frowns at that thought. "Ew that's just… great. More pressure…" her frown deepens and Asami just pictured her ears flop down.

Asami narrowly stops herself from drooling before taring her eyes away from Korra because she's been staring for too long. She then rubs her neck, feeling bashful before pulling at the collar of her shirt and starts fanning herself. Trying to cool herself down from this sudden hot flash she feels, she breathes some slow breaths.

Korra's nose twitches and she looks at Asami before staring at her intently. The ride ends up silent until Opal finally speaks up with a comment.

"Oh look you two, it's the station!"

Letting out a slightly disgruntled huff, Korra peels her eyes away from Asami. She immediately cheers up when she sees the station before heading back to the window with a bright smile.

"Woahhhh that's amazing!"

Opal grins brightly before saying, "Welcome to Republic City!"

xXx

"Okay so here's the plan…"

Steam releases from the train before Opal leans in closer to her friend.

"Asami, why don't you show Korra around town?" She says before insistently taking Asami's bag. "I'll bring your stuff to the dorms."

"Wait what?" Asami looked confused.

Opal then turns to Korra before speaking up, "Your things were already sent to the dorms right?"

Korra was too busy looking at the intricate yet modern train station. Her eyes trail past a tall clock before she randomly shouts back. "Yeah, my dad had it sent when he was dealing with stuff with Tenzin."

"What?" Asami's face doesn't change as she tries to get Opal's attention. "What's going on? We can just go together and show Korra around town later—" she grunts when Opal pulls her into a loose head lock.

"Shhhh!" She starts whispering right into her ear as she carefully watches Korra walk off to go stare at some more trains. "We need you to keep Korra occupied because we're busy setting up a welcoming party duh!"

Asami juts her lips. "Ah… that's why you were texting Bolin…"

"Duh obviously!" She lets go of her friend before standing up normally. "I'll text you when we're finished so go enjoy your date and keep her occupied until then."

Her cheeks quickly grew red before she quickly spits out, "Wha— what in the world are you saying! We're not even dating!" Opal shushes her so that they wouldn't catch Korra's attention, making Asami roll her eyes and continue in a whisper. "More like why me! Can't you just show her around! I just got released from the hospital Opal!" She exclaims as an excuse to separate herself from Korra. With the way she was acting, she was afraid that she'd pounce at the poor girl for some reason.

"Because you two are obviously drooling all over each other duh." She rolls her eyes with a shrug, easily responding back as if it was as obvious as day and night. "Besides, knowing you miss bookworm, your social skills aren't the best so who's gonna get those piping hot pastries from the Hotman's bakery!"

She scrunches her face at that. "That— I can do that!"

Opal rolls her eyes again. "Sure you can. Last time you went, you got hit on and then sent that poor guy to the ER!"

Twitching at that comment, Asami winces slightly. "Hey it's not my fault he touched my ass…"

"From what I remember, you were the one who talked to him first!"

"I only said excuse me!"

"And yet he took it that wrong way somehow." Opal counters back with the 'really' look before raising a teasing eyebrow. "You shouldn't have been all fidgety while making eye contact with him."

"Wha—" Asami lets out an annoyed groan. "It's not my fault I don't talk to that many people! Like what am I supposed to do! Look at his feet!"

Opal playfully cups her cheek. "With a face like yours, yes honey."

Asami slaps her hand away. "It's not my fault I was born like this!"

"You mean being born all sexy and hot? Yeah, I know, because if it was then I'd have a problem!" She jokes with extra umph than necessary. "I still can't believe that before I got together with Bolin, all the guys I liked only looked at you!"

"Urgh, Ididn't ask for them to look at me Op, you know that. Besides, what do you want me to do? Cover my face or something?"

"Yes." She casually agrees with a slight undertone of bitterness.

The glare on Asami's face never left. "Opal why you…"

Her friend quickly throws her a wink though. "Hey, at least you're not just a magnet for men though." She glances at Korra with a smug look. "I feel like you're soooo her type."

Being caught off guard by that notion, Asami blushes hard at that comment before she attempts to catch her friend and teach her a thing or two. "Why you— get back here!"

Opal laughs wholeheartedly as she dodges Asami before Korra comes back from her mini adventure.

"What'd I miss?" She beams with the happiest eyes out there that makes Asami blush even more.

"Well you see…" Opal starts while giving Asami one of the smuggest looks out there. "Asami—"

"Nothing!" Asami quickly cuts in, pushing Opal away from Korra. "Nothing at all! Come on, I'll show you around town so why don't we head out first? There's a lot to check out!" She quickly turns to the werewolf and pulls her away by the arm.

"Um uh okay?" Korra was confused and she tried looking back at Opal as she got pulled away. "B-Bye! I'll see you later!"

Shaking her head softly, Opal just waves back innocently. "Bye~ have fun!"

By the time Asami was storming out of the station with Korra in tow, she mindlessly headed off in some direction with her face burning up. I'm gonna kill her later!

xXx

After walking around the city for a few hours now, Korra finally huffs before stopping in place. "Spirits this city is huge…" her stomach growls and her face scrunched before she grabs her stomach. "Food… where is foodddd…"

Asami covers her mouth to suppress her laugh before clearing her throat and suggesting, "Why don't we have a bite to eat then?" She looks around at their vicinity before looking back at Korra. "Let's go eat at the Sprites Cafe. It's a secret local spot that is quite popular amongst witches."

"Sureeee," Korra lazily takes a step forward, "Anything sounds good to me, I'm starving!"

Smiling softly, Asami took the lead and not before long, they were in front of the cafe. She opens the door for Korra and makes eye contact with her before asking. "Where do you want to sit?" She then shuts the door behind them.

Korra hums before taking a look at the available seats. "Hmm… oh, let's sit at that booth by the window, I wanna see the city view."

"Sure."

The store attendant greets them and they nodded back before taking a seat. However, compared to a normal booth, they sat at one where they were forced to sit side by side rather than across one another. The only reason for that was that the other ones were occupied and or didn't have a window view. One of the waiters hands them the menus before saying:

"Someone will be right with you okay."

Asami nods with a brief thanks while Korra stares at the menu. "Hmm… what should I get…"

Not after long, a waitress interrupts them. "Excuse me, sorry to intrude. I'll be your waitress for today." She makes eye contact with Korra. "Oh? You must be new in town."

Korra turns her body to face her before smiling courteously. "Yeah, how'd you know?"

She smiles before pointing at her own lips. "Most tourists have the same smile."

"Ahh…" Korra's lips parted in understanding, "I see."

"Yup! Shapeshifters especially have a bigger smile than humans too."

That makes Korra jut her lips as she cocked her eyebrow. "How'd you…"

Taking the hint, the waitress quickly raises her hand in surrender. "Oh my spirits, I'm so sorry I didn't mean to be weird or anything but uh…" she looks at Korra, fidgeting her body as if she was prompting something.

Korra blinks before confirming her suspicions. "Korra."

"Korra!" She beams with a bright smile. "Korra, it's just that I was studying about shapeshifters last night so I never thought I would run into one the next day! It's not uncommon for them to be around in this city but you guys usually don't come around this area that often. Oh! And I am so sorry if I am wrong about you being a shapeshifter by the way. I don't mean to jump to assumptions…"

Korra hums feeling somewhat impressed. "Guess your studies paid off then because yup, you guessed right." She grins before pointing at herself, "I'm a shapeshifter, a werewolf specifically."

Her eyes practically popped open in awe. "Oh my gosh! I knew it! So you're a werewolf huh? That's so cool! I really love dogs. What's it like being one! Oh how does it feel to transform? Is it weird at all? And what about your clothes! Where do they go!" She gushes out all at once.

Blinking a few times, Korra laughs before raising her hand dismissively. "Thanks I guess? And uh well… how do I explain it?" She looks at the ceiling before rubbing her chin, "I mean… It doesn't feel weird. It's like second nature to me. How should I put it… it's kind of like if you were to bend down and grab something but you know, we just change."

Watching the two of them exchange pleasantries, Asami frowns before turning away and grabbing her chest. Why does my chest feel so tight? She takes some deep breaths to calm herself. Is it an after effect from the poison? She then glances at Korra before glaring at the waitress when her werewolf laughs. I'm supposed to be showing Korra around. I'm supposed to be making her laugh. She's my—

Her lips part when she realizes what she was about to think. She shakes her head slightly before letting go of her chest and reaches to grab Korra's arm. Korra didn't come in alone. It irked her that she had just been ignored and for some reason she smirks before sliding closer to Korra, getting close enough so that her chest was pressed against her arm. She's my friend.

"Korra~" she says in a playful yet somewhat seductive voice. "Since we're finally getting food, why don't we try something fun?"

Without a second thought, Korra immediately ignores the waitress and tilts her head to look at Asami. "Fun? As in…"

Asami leans forward, pushing her bosom more into Korra's body and grabs the menu in front of her. She flips it to the last page before pointing at this cafe's special challenge. "This." She looks up to make eye contact with Korra before tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.

"This cafe is actually famous for this challenge. Basically, we order this super sized sundae parfait and if we can finish it in thirty minutes, our food will be for free." She explains, leaving out the minor detail that this challenge is mostly done by couples.

Korra didn't miss a beat as she excitedly responded, "Oh heck yeah! Let's do it Sami, that sounds fun!" Korra shoots back with an excited face and lopsided grin.

Chuckling softly at her enthusiasm, Asami purposely rubs her leg against Korra's before finally making eye contact with the waitress. She narrows her eyes at her before scanning her body up and down. Scoffing slightly, she smirks before leaning into Korra's ear to whisper.

"I bet you I can eat more than you."

Korra gasps slightly before leaning into her face to whisper back. "Oh it's onnnnn!"

Asami giggles softly before winking at Korra, "Sure you can."

The waitress blushes deeply in embarrassment before finally chirping up. "Oh you two were together? I'm so sorry! What will you two be having?"

Korra finally looks at the waitress before looking at the menu and scrunching her nose. "Um... the A set looks good but then the C one sounds good too."

Asami rests her chin onto her fist before cooing out. "Then let's get both Kor, we can share."

"Really?" Korra looked happier than a child with a new toy. She really loved food after. "Yes, that sounds perfect then!"

Asami smiles again before glancing at the waitress, making her jolt upright. She clears her throat before confirming their orders. "S-So one A set, C set and sundae special right? Coming right up!" She quickly grabs the menus from them before turning on her heels and leaving the two alone at their booth.

Once she was out of sight, Asami let go of Korra with a happy and pleased sigh. She scooches away slightly before touching her chest softly. I can finally breathe again phew… Finally in the clear, she wasn't expecting her breath to hitch when Korra unexpectedly slid closer to her and pointed out the window.

"Woah! What is that!"

Asami happened to glance at Korra's neck by mistake, watching her chest rise with that delicious collar bone teasing her right in front of her face. Her face burns up at their close vicinity and she quickly snaps her eyes away before looking at where Korra was pointing to. "What?"

Korra shifts again. "That!"

Fidgeting slightly, Asami felt trapped against the window and Korra's body. The burning sensation from Korra's skin and coolness of the window was making her want to faint or even die in embarrassment thanks to their public outing. Her eyes finally catch up with what Korra is pointing at and her lips part to answer.

"Oh that, that's the fire show that's hosted every once a week. Guess we're lucky we made it here on a Sunday." She says in a level headed voice as if her heart wasn't about to jump out of her chest.

"That's awesome! We didn't really have something like this back in the south. Even in the forest, we were all hunter and gatherer chic."

Asami laughs at that. "I thought you had festivals though."

"That…" Korra snaps her fingers, "We do but just not every week sadly." She sighs before leaning onto the table. "The culture here is just so rich. Like, I've never seen so many different types of shapeshifters in one spot let alone with witches too! It's cool, you know? I'm really glad I came here, well, not like I've been here for that long, but you know."

The witch gives her a soft smile. "Yeah, I know what you mean. Just wait until class starts, now that is a whole new world."

She gives her one of the brightest grins out there. "I bet!"

xXx

"Urgh… I don't feel good… whose smart idea was it again to do a sundae challenge?" Korra huffs as she rubs her stomach.

Asami took a moment to collect herself as she held onto her mouth. Only after a moment, she managed to speak. "Sorry… I didn't think it'd be that bad…" she thought back to the enormous bowl of ice cream. "I'm gonna have nightmares about it."

That makes Korra laugh out loud. "Same. It was a shame we couldn't finish it though…" she whines with a pout, "We were so close too."

"Yeah but if we had eaten anymore, we'd have definitely puked everything back up."

"True but still…" she turns to make eye contact with her. "Anyways, I can't believe I forgot my wallet! Next time we eat out, the bill is on me!"

Asami smiles at the gesture. Next time huh? She couldn't help but think that it was cute. "Don't worry about it, think of it as thanks for saving my life."

Korra scoffed slightly. "But it was kinda pricey!"

"It's nothing really." She looks off to the side feeling somewhat awkward. When do I tell her I'm technically rich?

"Besides…" Korra twiddles with her fingers as she stares at the sky before mumbling, "You're priceless though…"

Asami blinked. I did not just hear that right. "I'm sorry, what did you just say…?"

Korra coughs before clearing her throat. "I said you're priceless…" she blushes before quickly adding, "I-I mean not in a weird way of course! No meal can be worth the amount your life is! I'd rather starve than let you get hurt in front of me."

Can I take that as a confession? That was totally a confession right! It has to be a confession! She wanted to push Korra further on that comment but what came out was this. "Thank you Korra, glad to know that you'd save me over enjoying a nice meal." DAMMIT! Asami you buffoon! Why you gotta be like this!

They continued walking through downtown and Korra still looked as happy as ever as she observed the various magic shops. She pointed out some particular trinkets here and there which invoked Asami to explain how it worked. From voodoos to charms to potions and even magic spells, the more Korra's curiosity asked, the more her inner bookworm answered. It's been far too long since she has had anyone to talk to let alone listen to her rambling.

Sure, Asami had Opal, Bolin and the others but none of them honestly really cared. More like, they studied the same subjects she did so the only time they discussed these topics were when it was approaching an exam. Korra's curiosity was a nice breath of fresh air. With how crazy these past few days have been, it was nice having such a normal conversation about something she was passionate about. It wasn't until they passed a semi-spooky overpass that Korra inquired.

"Soooo… tell me more about this whole 'seven wonders' thing. Is that like a tradition or something?" Korra asks before stretching out wide.

Asami brushes away a strand of her hair behind her ear. "Mmh… I guess in a way? How do I explain it… It's more like a folk lore that's passed down between generations." She pauses briefly to look in the direction their academy was located. "Most of the wonders come from the academy but there are other ones that apply to the whole city like the Teller of Fate for example."

"Teller of fate?" Korra repeats with a curious face.

The witch nods her head. "Mmhmm. Rumors have it that this teller can't be found anywhere in the city. She just pops out of nowhere and people have tried looking for her but all for nought. They say she's an old witch that only speaks to you if you have some sort of impending doom or some other serious matter going on in your life. If you run into this teller, your luck is bound to get complicated so a lot of people are scared of her. I've heard that one of our upperclassmen swears that they were cursed by her. They said that they've only been having bad luck after encountering that witch."

"Hmm… that sounds like hocus pocus to me."

Asami chuckles at her response. "You're telling me. While I like learning from all sorts of books, I only believe things that I can see with my own eyes. That's why I try not to read silly things since it's pointless most of the time."

Korra couldn't help but tease. "Not even the tooth fairy."

She laughs happily at that suggestion. "Not even the tooth fairy."

Gasping dramatically, Korra grasped her chest in shock. "Oh come on, that's a classic though! Don't tell me all you read are boring textbooks. What about the spicy stories and folktales! They're usually based on some sort of truth."

"Andddd most of them turn out to be fake or over exaggerated." She counters back with ease.

"Well!" She scoffs in fake defense, "Here I was thinking about lending you my family's history book about tribal traditions. Guess you won't be needing it then since it has to do with the moon spirit."

"Wait what?" Tribal history directly from the chieftain lineage. "Wait! That's not what I meant, I would love to read that book! I read them all! I just don't believe in tall tails!"

"Mmhmm, sureeeee you do. Sure you do."

Before Asami could come up with another response, the two of them abruptly stop in place when a stray black cat jumps out in front of them. The cat laid down in front of their path and stared at the two of them before meowing. Sure enough, it sways its tail before running along, jumping onto a wooden box and running into the alleyway. The two of them didn't think much about it even if it was rare seeing this type of cat.

"Hmm… never thought I'd see a normal cat here." Korra says as she stares at the direction it went off in.

Asami was equally intrigued but she simply shrugged. "Maybe it was a werecat?"

The shapeshifter looks back at her. "I don't think so, I felt a different vibe from them."

Humming softly, Asami looks ahead before they continue walking around. Since their conversion had been cut off part way, they dropped the topic. Shortly enough, Asami's phone finally buzzes. She takes a peek at it and sees Opal's thumb of approval to start heading back. She lets out a breath of relief. "Finally…"

Korra looks at her with curiosity. "What's up?"

"Oh—" Asami quickly shoves her phone into her pocket. "It's nothing. You want to start heading back? It's starting to get late."

"Sure I guess so," she looks at the sky, "the sun is starting to set."

"Cool! Let's go this way then, it's a shortcut to get back onto the main road." The witch says while nodding at an old alleyway.

With a nod, Korra starts following after Asami. "Sounds good to me."

They made their way down the path in silence and took some turns here and there. It wasn't until they heard something crash that made them stop in place. Asami's eyebrow twitched before she took in their surroundings. It looked like some trash just fell over so it wasn't much to care about. She tilts her head in confusion though when she loses her bearings.

"That's strange… I could've sworn that the main path was here…"

Korra looks left and right before suggesting, "Maybe we took the wrong turn somewhere."

"Maybe… let's head back to that last corner, maybe it was there."

"Sure."

However, by the time they turned the same corner, they were faced with a dead end when it should've been a three way intersection. They both stare at the alleyway with their mouths slightly apart in disbelief before eyeing the stoned wall up and down.

"Um…" Korra juts her lips slightly before looking at Asami.

Asami answers her question with a shrug before she could even ask. "Don't ask me."

A meow catches their attention before a cat drops down from above. They both stare at it as it stares back at them in silence. There was this awkward tension and sure enough, some shifting noises made them jump before turning around.

"Who's there!"

Korra raises her hands in defense as she quickly stands in front of Asami instinctively. On the other hand, Asami reaches into her pocket by reflex in search of incantation materials. To their surprise, what they were faced with was an old lady, hunched over wearing a dark black cloak that covered her aged face and grey long hair. The cat they saw from early runs towards the old lady before disappearing into her cloak. Sure enough, the old lady started speaking.

"O' my…" she starts in a raspy voice. "Isn't this rare?" She slowly makes her way in front of the two and by the time she is within reaching distance, she raises her hand to point at Asami. "Thee who is't art bond to a wolf's soul…"

She then points at Korra. "Thee who is't art bond to a witch's soul…"

She then rests her hand behind her back. "In times of dark peril, thy souls best be intertwined albeit, thy shalt face great calamity. O' witch, pitiful soul, thy shan't part from thy bond for the curse on thy soul. Best twine thy souls tis speed of light."

She turns before slowly making her way to the intersection while Korra and Asami simply gawk at her caught off guard.

"Hail the bringer of light, chosen one from ancient times. May thy soul be blessed with fortune in times of dark nights."

Just like she appeared, she vanishes at the sound of a meow. Then, as if Korra and Asami snapped out of a trance, they twitched before looking at each other in confusion.

Asami blinks repeatedly before asking, "What was that?"

"Don't ask me." Korra slaps her face to wake up from this sudden grogginess she felt. "The heck was that?" She shakes her head before quickly running over to the corner the lady disappeared at. When she makes it there, she comes to a halt as her mouth falls open. "Asami?"

"What?" The witch quickly chases after her before seeing what she meant. "This is…"

The sound that had been washed out quickly filled the empty roads. The people began laughing and singing, drunk on a joyous high. The two of them couldn't believe their eyes or ears. It was as if they had come back to reality after being brought into some realm, disconnected from the world. How could they have missed this excitement in the silence of their stroll? It wouldn't have been possible.

Asami's lips finally twitched upwards in disbelief. "Say… you're not thinking what I'm thinking are you?"

Korra had a blank face. "Teller of fate huh… haha… as if…" she slowly turns to face Asami. "Right?"

A chill goes down her spine. "Um… I'm not sure…" she looks at Korra before frowning slightly. "What do you think she meant that we're bound by soul?"

Korra throws her hands up in the sky, not knowing what to do. "I don't know. More like, when the heck was she born? No one speaks like that anymore." She then scratches her ear, "What'd she say…? Something about a bringer of light? What the heck is that?"

Asami returns her gesture. "Don't ask me."

"But you're the bookworm!"

The witch gives her the 'really' look with a pout. She sighs softly before coming to a conclusion. "I guess I'll have to do some research once we're back at the academy."

They began making their way back home, each replaying the words that the old lady had said. Neither of them said it out loud but the thought of them being bound by soul was ridiculous. Ridiculous… yet, the thought of that sounded sweet and amazing. Asami wasn't sure what Korra thought about it but she personally loved the idea of being bound to her by soul. Whatever that meant, it had to mean something along the lines of being destined by fate right?

Her face twitches before she slaps herself mentally.

Oh no no no, stop being a creeper Asami… you're going too far with her crush. Korra would probably hate the idea of being stuck with a bookworm like me…

She sighs to herself.

Yeah. Let's not think about it. How many books am I gonna have to dig through to find information on this… urgh the thought of it is already giving me a headache.

She finally glances over at Korra.

Korra looks like she was caught up on her own thoughts. She was spaced out just as she was but unlike in her own mind, she couldn't tell what Korra was thinking. But then again, was there a point in thinking about her words? Who knows if what that old witch said is even true. For all they knew, it could've just been a prankster or even sham.

"...mi...As...Asami, earth to Asami!"

The witch jumps when Korra touches her arm.

Korra twitches backwards as well by reflex. "Sorry I didn't to—"

"Y-Yes?"

The two of them stop talking and make eye contact before both cracking up at the same time. They both found it silly that things had become awkward after that weird encounter despite having so much fun earlier in the day.

"Sorry, I was spacing out. You were saying Korra?"

Korra shakes her head slightly. "Nah don't worry about it, I was spacing out too but then you know," she points at the spilling paths, "I'm not sure where to go."

Asami's lips part into a small 'o' before she rubs her cheek with her finger. "Right." She nods her head towards the right side. "It's this way."

"Cool."

They continue walking down the path before Asami eventually gives up on walking such a long distance anymore and starts leading them to a gate area that was commonly used by the students from the academy. A short cut from the academy and city one would say. When they finally make it over to the spot, Korra stares at the big portal way before raising an eyebrow in Asami's direction.

"Is this… what I think it is?"

The witch simply nodded with a smile. "Yup, I'm starting to get a little tired of walking and we're still quite a ways away." She walks over and raises her hand at the portal before chanting a spell. "Lux spirituum, dona mihi accedere ad academy."

Korra had déjà vu. Just like she saw from that time in the woods, the words on the frame lit up and once again, it shined brightly before Asami faced her.

"Shall we?"

Compared to that time Korra walked into the portal as a wolf, this time she smiles brightly rather than reluctantly and takes a step forward.

"Let's."

They smile at each other before walking into the portal, side by side.
